energy star light bulbs

Posted By: MT on 2007-06-15
In Reply to: How we cut our power bill...sm - Georgia Gal

Just remember if you drop and break one of the new energy efficent light bulbs they have mercury in them. you can't just suck up the mess with your Dirt Devil(: On the back package there is a list of how to clean up mercury spills or you can call the EPA in your area. Leave it to our govt to create a light bulb where you need a govt run agency to help you clean it up!

Tell her to buy you the yellow bulbs, increases productivity. sm
On Good Morning America this morning they said the yellow light bulbs would increase productivity by 30%!
False. I'm sure there are plenty of skinny dim bulbs living in poverty

No energy
Yes, I am exactly the same way! This year has started earlier than usual but that might be due to the fact that I haven't found a job yet. But I hate the medications they suggest because it makes me feel detached, what do you do or take for it?
I get the low energy part too... sm
I use several things ...ginsana helps and I also use Emergen-C packets that you mix with water are helpful. Those things help with that part, but not 100% cure. I feel like half the month I am taking something to help me stay awake during the day, something to help me sleep at night, and something to calm me down during PMS. I never imagined perimenopause would include all of these symptoms! I am going to do some research and see if I can find any answers!
Ideas for Low Energy

hi, just wanted to offer some encouragement, if possible, to say hang in there and we all feel like that sometimes. I think it's a matter of frequency and duration, though, as to determining for yourself what's tolerable and what's not. also, you don't mention specifics such as your age, level of fitness, etc.  i know that when i started having perimenopausal symptoms, i wasn't feeling very energetic at all. i looked into some herbal supplements like maca root, which has helped somewhat. there's a supplement called nadh as well, or NAD, and that's supposed to help with low energy while not having the same side effects as, say, a ton of caffeine (although I MUST have my morning coffee!).  another option is an herbal infusion made of stinging nettle:  http://www.susunweed.com/Article_Energy_Stamina.htm

having energy is a very multifaceted issue, imho, which takes into account one's whole being on a physical/emotional/spiritual level, and so i tackle it with a multifaceted approach. as a single mom of a young boy, in my mid-40s, i need all the energy i can get! i work out at least 3 times a week or more doing cardio SO THAT I SWEAT. sometimes it's a struggle to do it but i put on the tunes and go for it for 45 min. i keep hydrated. i use herbals. but i also nurture my soul...When i'm working, classical or jazz or other soft music is on in the background.  i give myself comfort foods, and yes, coffee. i do an email here and there in between notes or in the middle of one for a very quick break (case in point). if i'm low energy for too long, i ask myself why that might be, which it sounds like you're doing. sounds like you're overworked and worried too, which doesn't help. trying to find ways to reduce stress is key. sometimes for me it's a glass of wine, or watching my favorite show once a week for a treat. whatever is FUN for you is key.

again, just my humble opinion, but it's something i've dealt with often, and these are ideas that have worked for me, including a "gratitude list" on occasion, or a gripe list, whatever feels right at the time!

Good luck!

okay...so it is supposed to conserve energy--sm
now could you possibly explain to me HOW it is supposed to conserve energy?? All they are doing is taking an hour off the morning and putting it onto the evening. So, it is still dark in the am when you get up and you turn on a light to see, but you don't have to turn one on until later in the evening because it is still light out. So, in my baffled mind...how does this make any difference????

to the other poster who's smart alarm clock DID change, do you know what brand it is??? Mine did not change this time, but it HAS changed with daylight savings time in the past. just curious.

thanks.
I'd have a lot more energy and inclination to consider that if I got 7 days of fair help with hou

Start with safety, then energy efficiency, then the pretty stuff.
We live in a house built in 1915, and we bought it in 1985. It was in a very, very sad state. We're still working on it, and are even re-doing things we fixed years ago. Firstly, make sure that everything is safe. Could the wiring cause a fire? Fix that for sure! How about the plumbing, roofing, gutters, all the things that can cause water damage when in disrepair. Water damage is a really awful thing. If all of that is ok, try to save some money with some energy efficient things. We have more than 50 windows in our house, and bit by bit we've replaced most of them. I love the tilt-in, easy-to-clean new windows that are also energy efficient. We also replaced our boiler. (We have hot water heat in the winter and elaborate, cast iron radiators from the 1920s.) That saved us lots of money over the long run. Same with the hot water heater. (We don't have a/c.)
For the fun stuff, I used to love going to Lowe's, Home Depot, etc, and just walk around to get some ideas. They also sell really nice design books. And then, there's t.v. Check out home and garden network, style, and DIY networks. They all have websites. Google the style of design that you like and see what nice ideas you can find. The computer makes research so easy!
Enjoy!
When you wish upon a star

For some time I have been wanting to do animal rescuing but had no idea how to start. I personally rescued a little doggie and after knowing I had no place to keep her, adopted her out to a person who does rescuing and got my dreams answered. The lady is supposed to get her license soon to rescue in the state- right now she works as an extension of a humane society. When she gets her license to rescue will cost nothing to pull out animals that are sometimes put down. I am going to get 3 doggies tomorrow, a mother and 2 puppies. Some of the puppies already adopted out and when the other 2 gone, the mother is put down. This is something I have had in my heart for quite some time and finally able to do something now. I can finance 3, 4 or 5 per month and then in return they will find them good homes.  My wishes are coming true.

Morning star
Wow! Seeing a morning star was worth all of that. I think that is awesome! Yeh, I was tempted to go to Kohls with all those commercials yesterday, but my MT nature kicked in, I was home all day, but rested and got lots of laundry done, even cleaned the garage. Now, I don't feel guilty about neglecting a chore here or there. I'll think of something fun to do tomorrow. I hope it's as good as seeing a morning star. :)

Anybody watching Nashville Star? Who's your favorite? Mine is Gabe.

Next Food Network Star sm
I am watching right now to see who the winner will be.  They said this is the 3rd Next Food Network star.  I know Guy won last year and does Guy's Big Bite and Diners, Drive ins, and Dives.  Does anyone know who the first Food Network Star was?  I don't even remember that competition.  Thanks.

Octo-mom to be a porn star!!!

Wednesday, February 25, 2009 – updated: 9:06 am EST February 25, 2009

The very public saga of octuplet mom Nadya Suleman has taken a lurid turn.

According to TMZ.com, Suleman has been offered $1 million by major porn distributor Vivid Entertainment to star in a porn movie.

Suleman became the subject of heavy scrutiny after the birth of the octuplets last month, after it was revealed that she already had six children. All 14 were conceived through in-vitro fertilization.

Vivid told TMZ that the company will give her family full medical and dental insurance if she becomes a "contract girl." According to the celebrity gossip Web site, that would mean Suleman would have to do "multiple videos."

TMZ said there was no word on whether Suleman was considering the offer.

Meanwhile, Suleman appears to have bigger worries than taking care of her 14 children.

Talk show host Dr. Phil McGraw said that she may have to prove she can handle the load, or else have hospital officials withhold her newborn octuplets.

McGraw said the 33-year-old unemployed mother called him Tuesday. She was distraught that Kaiser Permanente officials told her they were concerned about the babies living at her home near Los Angeles.

Property records show Suleman's mother is more than $23,000 behind on mortgage payments and the home is under threat of foreclosure.

Kaiser officials won't comment on Suleman's case.

Suleman has taped two episodes of McGraw's "Dr. Phil" show.

Any of the Star Wars movies...
Space movies bore me.
Is anybody here watching Design Star on HGTV?

What do you think about the latest round of eliminations? Who do you think will win?

I think it will be Todd because he is so energetic and good-looking and he also is a very creative designer.

Other opinions?

Beatles, Rolling Stones, Aerosmith, Metallica, Smashing Pumpkins, Eagles, INXS, Fleetwood Mac, Eric Clapton, The Doors, and on and on and on. If we only listened to, or gave awards to, the clean and sober musicians, our musical legends would be a completely different list.

and I'm sorry your mom is not well.  I will keep both of you in my prayers.

I hope tomorrow is a better one for all of us.

The light boxes would be much
healthier than tanning booths.

Thank goodness I am too claustrophobic to use tanning booths or I probably would have when I was younger. As it is I laid out in the sun a lot when I was in my 20s, and have the age spots to show for it.
Need some light and laughter.
You know, I have been reading the gab board all weekend and into today and there have been a lot of depressing posts and help needed everywhere. I got to thinking today that lots of things are going wrong this Christmas and maybe we need to reflect on our own lives. I have felt sad and sorry for all the posts I have read.

Mine may seem trivial, but after today's soul searching and reading of the boards, it hit me hard. I am an animal lover. I have 3 indoor cats and have been taking care of a feral cat clan, helping out a local feral cat society. It is a long story but I kind of fell into it. I was taking care of 9 outdoor cats, males mostly with 1 adult female and 2 female kittens (I got them spayed). Well, tonight we found one of the feral cats was hit by a car near our driveway. It hit me hard, even though she *technically* wasn't mine. We named her Momma (original, huh) because she was the mom to all of the kittens over the years. She was a beautiful cat and a terrific mother. She never let me pet her but appreciated me and my time taking care of her kittens. I only regret not taking a picture of her. She was gray with green eyes. My husband buried her in our yard as we were the only family she really knew. My heart goes out to the strays, and it hurts me to know she never really was loved on this earth except by me. I just wanted to post this to have other people send thoughts her way and just think of a cold feral cat in need of love. I will never forget her.

I know it seems petty compared to all of the other issues brought up on this board and don't want to be a *Debbie downer*. I really did want everyone to think of her and a lonely animal in their life whom they could touch and take care of.

Thanks for reading :(
I have to agree with you. IMO, we need to keep it light.
xx
He can light my fire! ;)
The Australian guy that sang the Doors song 'Light My Fire' is GOOD-LOOKING. Doesn't hurt that he sounds good also ;)
Sorry, I don't mean to make light of the
situation from the OP. However, people are going crazy over this and the individual being discussed is not even a part of this conversation. For all anyone knows, this had been handled and the dictator did not mention it in his dictation or has been handled since, so why are so many in an uproar????

I am not in the military, but my nephew is in the Army, and in his unit each situation is handed on an individual basis--there is not a blanket protocol for things of this nature.
Maybe they light themselves, and last for a whole year!
Maybe they blow themselves out too!
She gets a light and the TV on all night, but...
she says it is not fair that she has to be lonely in her bed and the grownups have somebody to snuggle with.
And, shall we say, light in the loafers!

Light a candle... see message
The next time you "feel" someone is with you by some strange occurence happening, light a candle. Communicate with them, actually talk out loud to them, let them know that you are thinking of them. Ask them questions. When you go to bed that night, write down the questions you may have for them and then see if you have any insightful dreams.

I absolutely love this stuff!

I just tries to keeps it light in this crazy world is all...

Ever see the movie "Clueless?"  There's this GREAT line where the father tells this boy that if he doesn't have his daughter home safe and sound at the end of the date, "I got a .45 and a shovel, I doubt anyone would miss you."

Freakin' kills me!

Coors Light? naw just joking ;-)
I had the same problem, but just decided to go with the flow. I started working graveyard and sleeping during the day. I was able to work within family constraints and felt much better.

Don't know if that's an option for you, though. I tried Tylenol PM and other OTC sleep aids but they gave me restless leg syndrome for some reason which made matter a million times worse.

Hope you're able to find some relief.

Thanks for promising the light at the end of the tunnel.
You know, I started hot flashes in my 30s and thought I was going through the change. Not kidding I am now over 45 by 1 year and still going through this! Ugggg. Maybe Karma will pay me back for all these years. All this girl wants to do is have fun... and looking forward to it, someday!
That puts a different light on things.
I'm glad you talked to him. It is surprising how honest teenagers will be sometimes when you just talk to them as equals and not immediately come down on them. Kids need to know that their parents trust them, unless of course there is a good, clear reason not to.

I am curious though. Did you say anything about him helping another kid do this? I'm sure he knows from last time around that peer pressure and acceptance are powerful. By not helping this other kid with things like this - he could be helping this other kid overcome the problem too.

What about knowing that it was in your house, etc? Personally, I would still be upset about that and want to make it clear that it should not happen again.
"Carol Anne -- DON'T go towards the light!" LOL. nm

Too bad that all of those with cancer are just too stupid to see the light...
smoke a little pot and - presto - you're cured! I imagine with all of the hippies coming down with cancer these days that, if this actually worked, we would all know by now, but I might just say that to make my not-a-pothead-self feel better about the cancer I will someday not be able to cure because I don't smoke weed, right?
Oh geez folks, light up...
it was funny!
