Review Summary
Originally produced by the BBC, Threads is a shattering speculative tale the onset of World War III, and the horrors of the post-apocalyptic society that struggles for survival. The film takes place in the ruins of Sheffield, a British working class town. Despite the fact that the world seems to be falling apart all around them, a young couple (Karen Meagher, Reece Meagher) intend to go ahead with their upcoming wedding. As the date draws near, however, simmering international tensions soon erupt into global thermonuclear war. In the devestation that follows, the apocalyptic erosion of society sends mankind hurtling back hundreds of years into an age where famine, strife, pestilence, and death wash over the land like an unrelenting flood of venomous bile. The central theme of the film seems to be that the adage "Life Goes On" just isn't good enough in a world doomed to a slow death by radiation. Without resorting to shock or sensationalism, this one makes The Day After and Testament look like kids' stuff. Though not picked up by any of the major American networks, Threads was widely distributed in the US through the auspices of cable mogul Ted Turner. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

I graduated in 1985 and I first heard it
in junior high. I have never said it and thank goddness I didn't. It wasn't until about a year ago when I heard my high school son say it that I realized I always thought they were saying "My bag". Guess I'm not "so cool" after all. LOL!
I have followed your threads since they
first started a few days ago. I kept thinking about my brother and SIL. Their marriage was very much like yours. She would cringe when she heard his car pull in the driveway not knowing what kind of mood he would be in. Never physicaly abusive but definitely verbally abusive. My SIL was and is still my best friend so she told me lots and I grew up with my brother and know what kind of person he is. They finally divorced (after separating several times) after 14 years of marriage. It was the best thing for both as well as the children. It is not always easy to make the decision, my SIL talked about it for over 10 years before she finally did it, but am so glad she finally did.
Then how many more threads

power walking......see link here:
http://www.thewalkingsite.com/howtowalk.html
TIPS FOR WALKING FASTER1. Use good posture. Walk tall, look forward, (not at the ground) gazing about 20 feet ahead. Your chin should be level and your head up.
2. Keep your chest raised, and shoulders relaxed (shoulders down, back and relaxed). 3. Bend your arms in slightly less than a 90 degree angle. Cup your hands gently. Swing arms front to back (not side to side - arms should not cross your body.) Do not swing elbows higher than your sternum (breast bone). Swing your arms faster and your feet will follow.
4. Tighten your abs and buttocks.. Flatten your back and tilt your pelvis slightly forward.
5. Pretend you are walking along a straight line. Resist the urge to elongate your steps. To go faster -- take smaller, faster steps.
6. Push off with your toes. Concentrate on landing on your heel, rolling through the step and pushing off with your toes. Use the natural spring of your calf muscles to propel you forward.
7. Breathe naturally. As you walk, take deep, rhythmic breaths, to get the maximum amount of oxygen through your system. Walk fast enough that your breathing is increased yet you are not out of breath.
WALKING DON'TSCommon mistakes made by walkers... 1. Do not over stride
2. Do not use too vigorous arm movements
3. Do not look at the ground
4. Do not hunch your shoulders
5. Do not carry hand weights or place weights on your ankles
What is the difference in power walking, fitness walking, and racewalking?
Fitness walking is called by many different names - power walking, fitness walking, health walking. Power walking is commonly used to represent an exaggerated walking style. This style of overstriding and exaggerated arm movements is often linked with injuries. Because of this I don't generally use the term power walking. A better term for a healthful energetic walking pace is "fitness walking".
Fitness walking is much more than a stroll or nature walk. When fitness walking you incorporate the muscles of the upper body making it a GREAT aerobic activity. It burns approximately the same calories as running, yet it is much easier on the body. Because more muscles are used it burns calories much quicker than less aggressive walking. It also tones muscles in the buttocks, thighs, hips, shoulders, upper back and abs. Most fitness walkers average about 12 to 15 minutes per mile.
Unlike racewalking; there is no official definition. There are no rules. If you walk at a purposeful fitness walking pace using good technique you are a fitness walker. Use tips above to insure good walking form and to increase your pace.

I disagree. I still have my class ring (class of 1985). It's tucked away in my jewelry...
box. My fingers are too fat to wear it now, but it has sentimental value. Mine was just a metal ring as well and it still looks great.
I gave my class ring to a boyfriend back in the day and it wore it on his pinky. Then he lost it on the beach at the local lake. We ended up breaking up not too long after that and I thought I would never see my ring again. Then one day I'm reading the local paper and there's an add that said "LORI -- did you lose your class ring at city lake? Call... and describe the ring." I called the number and described the ring and it was mine. Thankfully I had had my full name inscribed inside the band of my class ring! The guy that found it was this little old man who had a one of those metal detectors and he spent his retirement days scanning beaches, parks, etc for change and what other treasures he could find. I couldn't thank him enough! He wouldn't take any kind of reward for finding it.
Just thought I'd share my class ring story. I feel that class rings, class keys (Do they still do that?), and yearbooks are such an important part of the high school years, but that's just me.
Anybody see the movie Sicko yet? Important movie!

Good advice was given here. Suggest vet check-up for kitty needs vet check. sm
I've had 2 females over the years who developed stones/crystals in urine or UTIs. Both of them started spraying inappropriately. Never had a female spray inappropriately other than in these instances. They go into spasm and can't help themselves. If it is a urinary problem, eventually you may see slight pink-tinged spray if it gets that far untreated due to the irritation from constantly trying to pee. One more thought is if the kitty is not sick, maybe the other cat won't let her use the litter box for some reason. Maybe set up another box for her.
Do you ever see (or NOT see) a movie ... sm
based on what the critics say about it? I still think back to when Titanic came out and Gene Shallet (sp?) on the Today Show absolutely hated it. I think Premonition with Sandra Bullock looks like a good one, but the critics seem to hate it. But they also didn't like We Are Marshall, and I thought that was a fabulous movie, so I don't usually take what the critics say into consideration when picking a movie. Just wondering what anyone else's opinions were.
Have a great Friday!
oh okay. I have not seen the movie yet--sm
so I could not relate. Guess I will have to watch it now. lol.

If you go to pluggedinonline.com you can look up the movie and read about the language, gore, sexual content and anything else that might be in it before you watch it. Good luck!
No movie but okay anyway
Wish I could tell you which movie, but I naver made it out of the house. There is an all day marathon on Entrprise on sci fi, and another on USA I think with Law and Order. So, I caught up on the laundry while watching these things. Before you know it the day is almost over, and I haven't spent a dime LOL. Hope you go to see your movie and enjoy it. I have to start forcing myself to get out of the house.
There are SO many from that movie!

oh yes! there were a lot from that movie..(nm)

name this movie...
"So your gonna' tell me that you don't have no black cats, no roman candles, or screaming mimis?
Oh come on man. You got no lady fingers, fuzz buttles, snicker bombs, church burners, finger blasters, gut busters, zippity do das, or crap flappers?
You're gonna stand there, owning a fireworks stand, and tell me you don't have no whistling bungholes, no spleen spliters, whisker biscuits, honkey lighters, hoosker doos, hoosker donts, cherry bombs, nipsy daisers, with or without the scooter stick, or one single whistling kitty chaser? "
" No... because snakes and sparklers are the only ones I like. "
Bee Movie
Will make you smile!!! It's so cute!
Can anyone name this movie
Ever have one of those toons you just can't quite place. I just heard a song by Duran Duran called Ordinary World. I know this was in a movie and it is driving me absolutely bananas that I cannot remember what movie. I'll post the link below to listen, but does anyone know what movie this song was in. I thought Lost Boys or Flatliners, but I've looked up soundtrack and its not listed. Anyone know? It's a very pretty song and one of those haunting melodies that I can play over and over and not get tired of it. Here's the link -

I have a movie for you
Watch Wall-E
I think it describes the difference between men and women in a very interesting way, and Eve is all woman even though she is a robot, and no one suggests that she take a pill to contain it either. In fact, she is a hero.
Best movie EVER!! nm
.
Sad we will never see her in another movie, but
What a horrible way to die. Watching my mom suffer with cancer I know what her family was going through. I'm happy for her that she is finally in a better place where there is no pain and suffering. It's a loss for all of us who longed to see her act in movies. She was a truly talented and warm-hearted person.
I think it is a movie - don't sweat it.

Went to see the movie 藼", all I can say is...

How is *Dwight* in the movie?
I apologize if you don't watch The Office because then you don't get my reference. One of the actors in that movie plays *Dwight* in The Office.
It looks like a good movie and my daughter wants to see it as well. I love it when there are movies we actually BOTH want to see!
Ever see movie "Chicken Run?"
There's a scottish chicken who, for the life of me, I can't understand! I couldn't imagine trying to transcribe that particular dialect!
What about Silent Movie?
I was laughing so hard and so loud my children moved away and sat somewhere else in the theater so no one would know they were with me.
I agree - very fun movie.
I enjoyed it a lot.
Love that movie!
My sister's kids love it too, ages 7 and 5. They are spending the night tomorrow, so we'll probably watch it yet again.
Where are you? I think the movie was made not too far from me. nm

Ten bucks a ticket to go see a 2-hour movie! What is a family supposed to do? We can't afford that anymore...it's ridiculous...

The Great Debaters (Denzel Washington), Bucket List (Morgan Freeman and Jack Nicholson) and I Am Legend (Will Smith). I'd like to see your reviews. Cat
I have seen the movie several times and of course
cry every time. I told DH I wanted the movie for Christmas and he got me the book. I had not read the book before, and honestly, I liked the movie better. That is the first time I have ever liked a movie better than the book.JMHO!
I Looooove that movie!!! nm

LOL... another good one from that movie...

never saw that movie. Good one!!
that was fun - and look at this thread! popular
Both! Dancing or a Movie?
I haven't seen that movie, so I don't know
what part you're talking about.
I HATE watching movies on TV though. I just can't stand how much they cut out, and it always seems to be a part that I wanted to see. I either buy them or rent them. I do netflix and then I can get old and new ones, and I'm bad about returning them on time so the no late fee thing works well for me.
favorite movie ever
"Queer Duck - the Movie"
No, I never watched that movie (sm)
Maybe I'll have to go rent it now and see if I missed something...see what he's all about .
I only saw the last part of this movie
Maybe that's why I couldn't remember. Thanks
Movie buckets are fun too....
We've given those before. We buy paper tubs of microwave popcorn and put in there 2 movie rental tickets or a gift card equal to it, some bottled soda and boxed candy. Movie night in a bucket. I got it as a gift years ago, and I liked it so much I give it to others now.
Fireproof movie
Has anyone seen the new movie Fireproof yet? It is great and you definitely should! It was produced by a church near my town and they did an amazing job!
Even if you are not a Christian or other belief, it is still a great movie. Yes there is a lot of Christian overtures in it (I mean it was made by a church!) but the main theme is love, and I think that is something everyone can understand!
I give it two thumbs up! In the days of every other movie being drugs and naked people, it is refreshing!
Let me know what you think!
Fireproof movie
My daughter and I went to see it last weekend and I would recommend it with 10 thumbs up. It really was the best I have seen in a long time since Amazing Grace. We are also planning on seeing the Billy Graham movie.
