Coffee??

My hubby and I love McDonalds coffee.  I am currently using Folgers, but it actually tastes bitter.  Any smooth coffees out there that might be your favorite or something close to McDonalds?  Thanks.

Coffee, coffee and more coffee.
dd
Why does she see have a cup of coffee with her
hubby each morning you ask?  BECAUSE THAT IS THE KEY TO A HAPPY MARRIAGE!  Always have a cup of coffee with your husband before he leaves for work because you can always go back to bed!  This was told to me by a woman I worked with that was passed down from her mother.  Staying in bed back in those days (before women worked outside of the home) was considered lazy.  I always get up and have a cup of coffee with my husband, and I see the kids off to school.  I can always go back to bed, but I don't.  I just start typing, which usually leads to laundry, more typing, straightening up the house, more typing, trolling this board, more typing, petting the cat, more typing, and then more COFFEE!!!!!  lol  Have fun!
oh but I think we DO get together for coffee...s/m

virtually/cyberly speaking, that is *grin*

Coffee for four?

Mission accomplished everyone!  Got an email from my mutual friend on this board and I have replied.  It is nice when you finally know a first name. I will admit I can talk you under the table about my love for dogs. At first it seemed impossible to know each one of the breeds by name when I would watch the American Kennel Club Dog Show and Westminster, but now with 167 breeds in AKC I am right up with them. However, that will quickly go to 169 when they welcome two new breeds into the club, which I think is to be very soon. When I went to a show in April they introduced the new hound, the  Plott. It is really beautiful.

Thanks for your nice comments!

don't be shy, just tell him so over a cup of coffee that you asked him out for.

Anyone grind their own coffee???
I would love to get the good coffee taste such as Dunkin Donuts and have thought about getting some to grind. Has anyone done this and if so how is it as compared to what you get in the stores? Thanks.
Got my new coffee maker from
coffeeandkitchen.com. They have several models but think I read above someone who had thermal and I went that route. My hubby thinking he was getting the best if he paid a lot more for it, got a coffee pot, Cuisinart, that I detest!! As soon as you make the coffee and pour, lukewarm. Yucko....I am now wanting to get coffee grinder. Might go back to that site and check those out.
I'm 50 and coffee was my eye opener. Don't

know what happened, but it doesn't work for me anymore.  I sleep anywhere from 6 to 8 hours and that doesn't help.  Can't seem to concentrate on work either.  LOL - Yikes, I"m a mess

RE: Need a new coffee maker
Capresso brand, either at Linens and Things, Bed, Bath and Beyond. Purchased mine at Neiman Marcus $160....absolutely worth every cented drop! It's a thermal carafe type so you never have burnt coffee taste. Always keeps coffee perfect temp, first cup to the last.
PS. RE: Need a new coffee maker
For the ultimate coffee experience = Capresso coffee maker brewing freshly ground Pete's Coffee (Kenya blend)! Mm mm mm mm mm:)
This morning before my first cup of coffee

"the cat threw up in the kitchen" right behind my chair!  I guess sleeping in on a Saturday doesn't pay off.  The cat ate too fast.  I guess she was famished.  Well it could be worse right?

Update on coffee.

I used the tablespoon method from the poster below and then measured into my cup measurer. It was almost 1/2 cup of coffee grounds. The coffee tasted just a wee bit better, but still not good enough.

I was thinking about buying some already measured coffee to see if that makes a difference, but ya can't just buy one (to test), so I think I'll play around with the measuring a little more.

I'm also going to break open the 100% Columbian coffee hubby bought and see if that makes a difference.

I had noticed that over the last few months, whenever I opened a new can of coffee, that "whoosh" never happened like it used to, so I'm thinking these stores/manufacturers are just keeping the coffee in storage too long....probably because of the high prices, people aren't buying as much. LOL

Coffee cake
Has anyone here ever made homemade coffee cake? Would you mind sharing the recipe?
COFFEE update.

Finally, after 2 months(?), we have found our coffee. There are 2 brands we found: Chock Full O' Nuts 100% Columbian and Dunkin' Donuts 100% Arabica beans.

We also changed our creamer from the store brand back to Coffee Mate. YUM! It's a pleasure to drink coffee again.

I just spit my coffee out...how much

can you get for trailers these days? Honey, grow a thick skin and quit trying to prove you're something you're not! How about a sense of humor.....I always find those that have to boast about what they have actually have the least.

Awaiting your snappy, defensive comeback...

Do you like Starbuck's Coffee
Who does not like Starbucks Coffee? I don't care for it at all. It tastes to rancid to me. I'd much prefer, McDonald's then Dunkin Donuts.

I may be becoming a coffee snob
Yo, COFFEE LOVER sm
I, too, crave coffee that tastes like it smells. My son was a Starbucks manager and I know a lot about coffee as a result.

Growing regions:
African coffees are more acidic.
Colombian and South American coffees, whether robusta or arabica beans, will be earthy, muddy tasting.
Asian coffees are cleaner tasting, though can be very rich.
Kona and Jamaican coffees are often lower in caffeine and smoother, less acidic.

Roasting:
The darker the roast, the deeper the flavor. Dark roasts are said to have a bit less caffeine. Light roasts will be more acidic.

Ultimate rich cup:
Starbucks Gold Coast. It is Asian and dark roast. Not overly heavy, not muddy, not very acidic.

Sumatra. This is Asian, tends to be muddy in texture, but rich in taste. Usually dark roasted. If made in a French press, it will leave fur on your tongue!

Another good choice:
Verona. A blend of different growing regions. Dark roast. Hint of Italian espresso flavor.

Ways to make it:
I am a purist to the end. Must have freshly ground beans, I do at home. Must have filtered water.

French press:
Makes a chewable cup at times. It is espresso in texture, rich and heavy, oily in the cup. Have to have a rough grind, not a fine grind. You can't make Folger's this way.

Percolator:
Coming back as a popular way to make coffee. An antique or vintage one is better than the new ones. Has the advantage of sterilizing the water and the beans. Stronger than a drip maker, not as strong as a French press.

Drip coffeemaker:
Why? Do you want your coffee to taste like paper? Permanent gold filter is best. Tends to make the weakest coffee of the three processes I mention here.

While I like Bux coffee...there are some awfully good store brands of whole beans that are quite good.

I'll plug a local coffee brand too.
AmericanCowboyCoffee.com It is 100% pure Kona and at about $22 a lb, it is CHEAP for pure Kona. It is packaged in the oldest, continuously incorporated town in Wyoming, a place called Hartville. The store is literally right down the street from me. This is my special, after dinner, later evening, lazy Sunday morning in bed with the paper coffee.

thanks for letting me vent this!

I like Dunkin' Donuts coffee......

speaking of coffee -- beans that is,

does anyone dip their c. beans in baking chocolate for snacks?  I heard you can do this, but wondered if they are real hard, too strong or just plain tasty this way???

I grind coffee, it's the freshest/best...

I need a new coffee maker, any suggestions?
?
OMG - COFFEE SPEW post - thanks for that!!!

LOL! I almost spit out my coffee. You have such a way with words.
Too funny :)
I almost always have a cup of coffee right before starting work!
Sometimes I even have another one mid-shift for a pick up!
I fall out of bed, grab some coffee and
head to my office in my PJs at 6 a.m.  On my break, I change into sweats or street clothes, depending on whether or not I have to leave the house.
Question for coffee drinkers...sm

i know this might sound wierd, but I see all those yummy drinks advertised for Starbucks and I want to try one... my problem is that I don't like the strong coffee taste or smell.  The really strong taste will trigger a migraine (as does dark chocolate).  My question is...are any of those drinks lightly flavored enough that it disguises the coffee taste?  Like in a latte or in a mochasomethingorother ?I drink the intant cappuccino drinks that you buy in powdered form at the store, but those do not taste anything like real cappuccino.

Thanks in advance from the coffee virgin

nice strong cup of coffee
works for me every morning
Coffee - laptop or desk top?
.
Don't drink coffee, but lots of tea, but
am quitting the tea.  Thank you kindly
Curious - How is your coffee tasting lately?

I am a Folger's fan from way back. All of a sudden, it's been horrible coffee. I tried all different Folger's brands, tried switching measurements (less to more), ice water instead of the bottled water, and then switched brands Eight O'clock that used to be great and smelled wonderful and fresh when I ground the beans, and even bought a new coffee pot.

Nothing is working. We haven't had a decent cup of coffee in months. I'm so desperate, I'm ready to go to the convenience store every morning for a good cup. I need my 2 cups every day!

Hubby thinks the coffee is now made up with a lot of fillers lately. He could be right. Anybody have any ideas what could be wrong? I'm absolutely  over this.

I have a problem with the coffee's presented here

They're not available in my area. We have a choice between Folgers, Chock Full O 'Nuts, Maxwell House, store brand, and all the gourmet coffee like Dukin' Doughnuts, Starbucks, and some kind of Green Mountain Coffee. All those gourmet coffees are too high in price here - $6.99 per 13 ounces is ridiculous!

Never heard of Fresh Market coffee or Boca Java,  and yes, I clean my pot out once a month. I did not change coffee filters but that's a thought. I've been using the cheapest I could find, but the same brand. Been using the same filters for years.

We're not into the flavored coffee, just want a regular cup o' Joe in the morning.  Tomorrow, I am going to try 100% Columbian coffee that hubby bought. I already have 3 kinds of coffee in my 'fridge besides the new coffee, and he bought the biggest can you can buy (why? I don't know.)

I will update you on using this coffee, plus I think I will buy some different coffee filters. Maybe it is the coffee filters. I do have some older ones not made for this coffee pot, but will use one tomorrow and see what happens.

Thanks for all your help and I'm open to more suggestions. LOL

Heath bar coffee cake. YUM.

I bake and take a coffee cake to brunches or friends that is so simple and you can do a recipe search for Heath Bar Coffee Cake.  I use the powdered buttermilk in the recipe and works just fine.  Not complicated at all and SO good.

Does a high priced coffee pot
make any difference in the taste of the coffee itself? I am not talking about commercial ones but the ones we can buy for our homes. I have tried this and that coffee and tried another brand this morning. I just keep looking for that really good taste.
oooh, I think I like my coffee stronger
You must have posted while I was writing my message. I think its funny the strength in the different coffees. I uses a scoop (equal to 2 TBS) to every cup. I'm now reading your post and mine sounds like I would be drinking mud, but it's not really that strong and we like it.

I should try your idea with cleaning the pot though. We've had our pot for about 2 years and never cleaned it yet. Think it's overdue
Calling all coffee lovers!

I'm so excited!  I signed up for that Gevalia coffee club and the UPS man just delivered my way-awesome coffee pot, coffee and accessories.  My old coffee pot was an old white plastic 4-cup model that had started to leak.  With this one I'll be able to auto-program it to brew my coffee in the morning so it's ready when I wake up.  How 21st century of me, lol!

Anybody else subscribe to this coffee service or had their coffee?  While I wait for my first pot to brew, I thought I'd see if anyone can weigh in on whether their coffee is comparable to the taste of Starbucks or other coffee brands.

TIA!!!

Thanks for posting! Just sent son out for coffee and donut.
I want coffee really badly, but won't eat the donut, because I'm counting Weight Watchers points. So he's getting a free donut. Nothing pleases a teenager more!
Coffee lovers: Here's another possibility
Anybody tried a little gadget called the Aeropress?

http://www.aerobie.com/Products/aeropress_story.htm

It makes a pretty chewy cup of coffee, and it's VERY easy to clean and maintain. And it's CHEAP! (Not quite as cheap as a cup-top filter thingamajig, but very cheap compared to a full-blown espresso machine.)
Used to own a coffee shop. Have had lots of those chocolate
covered beans - they can be nasty even if done professionally.  If I were to do at home - would buy a mild bean - or even a decaf bean and think I would cover with the Hershey's chocolate mixture I bought to make chocolate covered bananas - which I purchased at Cash N Carry. I think it had something special in it to stick to the bananas.  It only came in a huge can though so would be quite an investment to see if it worked.
Has anyone used a French press coffee maker? sm
if so, did you like it or dislike it?  Thanks!
Just brewed me a fresh pot of Kona coffee.
I figured I needed a little stimulation to keep me awake. Work is slow today, but can not afford any more time off.
Okay wrong photobucket link used - not enough coffee yet...

"

hah, i guess that'd probably work better than coffee alright!!
i'm a sac native and now living far away, in tornado country. For me, its harder living amongst a huge population than with any particular weather/danger...
Coffee, cereal with lots of sugar on it, and

I always end up spilling coffee on mine and killing them
Either that, or they slowly fill up with cat hair, and die a slow, lingering death by asphyxiation.........
I would love to find a pot or coffee that was strong enough
for me. I just cannot seem to get it right. I love to go in Starbucks and smell that aroma and would love to have a good wake me up type but just do not find it. Any ideas here? DH bought new filter for present coffee pot, seemed to make no difference in the taste for me.
I wish I could drink coffee... loads of caffine with none of the
calories! I can't drink it wihtout putting loads of sugar and milk in it, then it isnt very low cal after that!!!! I love the smell of coffee and I wish I could just drink it, but I can't get over the taste.
We owned a coffee shop 5 years ago and here is my recipe (sm)
I have an espresso maker and a hot chocolate maker.  I buy white chocolate and dark chocolate at Cash N Carry.  I buy cups and lids at Costco.  I buy sleeves at Cash and Carry.  My daughters and friends say it is better than Starbucks!!  The hot cocoa maker froths the chocolate up just as well as our $1000 machine did at our original shop!! :))
