Priceless gift, for sure...
I'm sentimental and a pack rat. I would tuck the bricks away after the kids decorate them and at each of their respective weddings, I would present them with their brick with your/their story of how they came to be. IMO it would be a wonderful wedding gift... but then I'm sentimental...

I'd tell him to hit the bricks sm
No way I would deal with that. I'm 20 pounds overweight myself and told him (when he makes a comment, which is very rare and it's jokingly) that if he can find someone else who is skinny and hot, then go for it, and I would take everything, not just 50%. He was stunned and said "you really mean that, don't you' and I said "yep, I don't comment on your weight, you don't comment on mine." Love me, love my fat or get out.
fireplace bricks
My late Mother built a new home with a huge fireplace. She was born and raised in KS, so had 2 bricks that had the outline of a sunflower stragecially placed. The bricks matched the color of the fireplace, and it was very special to her. I'm sure the current owners of the home don't know why it looks that way, if they've even noticed at all.
My husband, also an officer, did the same thing when the hospital I used to work for (& was outsourced) was being torn down. I have a sign from the place upstairs in my office.
Good story!
