In Reply to: HELP, son in first year of college... psm - frustrated

Its tough. Our daughter also had a full scholarship and decided she wanted to transfer to where her boyfried was. I talked extensively, while trying to understand her feelings, about what that choice would do financially. How she had worked so hard to get this scholarship, having worried about getting to go to college, etc...talked and talked. We were trying to help her with putting her in a car, etc. But did tell her she'd be 'on her own' if she transferred, that it was a life-changing decision, and that if their relationship was a keeper, that the distance would only make it sweeter. She stayed. He turned out to later mistreat her and she was soooooo glad she didn't make that bad choice to give up her scholarship. Life is full of choices, and some of them affect the rest of your life. Keep talking. Good luck. p.s. i'd get the kid a tracfone with a year's minutes and a double-minute card. (v. cheap and so is texting)
