Oh, I would have dropped everything! Celebrating 15 years of marriage in June!

Now more than ever EVERYTHING needs to be legalized
The impotent "war on drugs" waste millions and millions of dollars each year. Tax revenue from legalization plus the money saved by ending the war on drugs would go a long way in our current economic situation.

We waste a lot of resources, and take up a lot of jail space, just because someone is caught with a little pot. I'd much rather see jails filled with murderers, rapists and pedophiles.

Prohibition on alcohol didn't work and neither has the prohibition on drugs.

And if you're wondering...yes I like to get a buzz every now and then.
Gay Marriage Legalized in Connecticut

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Same-sex couples began marrying in Connecticut on Wednesday after a judge cleared the way, a partial rebound for gay-rights activists still enraged over the vote last week that cost them the right to wed in California.

Protests spread across the country over the loss in California, but in New Haven, bubbles and white balloons bounced in the chilly autumn air as well-wishers cheered the marriage of Peg Oliveira and Jennifer Vickery. They wed outside City Hall, next to a statue commemorating the Amistad slave ship's struggle for freedom, less than two hours after a judge made gay marriage a reality in Connecticut.

It was legalized, but since it's kind of a gray area
and the federal government hasn't legalized it, medical marijuana establishments occasionally get shut down. Never could understand it. I really don't see why it's illegal. Even though I don't use it myself (just don't like smoking - period), I have no problem with my friends using it. I would prefer, of course, that they not drive a car while under the influence, but when it comes to how it affects them, it certainly doesn't make them mean, the way alcohol does to people. So especially when it comes to someone who is sick or in pain, or has lost their appetite, I think by all means they should have access to use pot to help them feel better. If it's legal for a doctor to pump them full of steroids, narcotic pain-killers, and highly toxic anti-cancer drugs, the use of a little pot to help them get through all that, or better still, do WITHOUT some of the pain meds or appetite stimulants, seems like such a non-issue. I wish our government would focus its attention on things that actually MATTER.
Never said there was no crime here.
There is. It just hasn't reached out to us until now.

Usually one can hear a car come up the driveway or the dogs hear it. They didn't this time and neither did I.
not a crime, a privilege!!
i work early 2 a.m. hours in my jammies and then take a break and shower/dress...but there have been days i don't bother til noon :)

its your call!!
depends on the crime committed . . .NM

crime comes from all socioeconomic levels....

white-collar crime has been around for generations...

nothing shocks me anymore.........

I'm so old I remember when a crime of passion

Why because you live rural did you ever think crime is not everywhere?
No matter where you live, rural or big city, means nothing to criminals. I keep my doors locked always and another thing, I never work with my back to a door, just cannot. You need to be thankful in the part about the dogs barking and alerting you to something not right and yet here someone was standing in your home. Good common sense is what it takes in this world.
My BP dropped from 134/94 to 108/80 - sm
so I am obviously a bit less stressed out than I was...was wondering if it was stress or hereditary....dad and mom both have/had high BP....obviously it was stress. So that is a step in the right direction health-wise anyway, now to drop 60+ pounds.....
I dropped you a line by the way, and yes -sm
you can email if you'd like. Probably a lot of guys out there like ours.
in florida - autopsy complete - no crime occurred.sm
They said no evidence of any crime occurring - tests ongoing and the rest will take 3-5 weeks to gather all info (drugs, et al).......Dr. Joseph Perper from Broward Medical Examiner's office is speaking now.....no physical injuries were found.....
I did talk to a lawyer too before I dropped - sm
the bomb on my DH as I wanted to know where I stood. I live in a state where they do an equitable disbursement of the marital goods, assets, etc. I would have a 40% stake in the house, entitled to about $100K in his 401K (1/2 of its growth since we married), 1/2 of assets we purchased together. Though a judge would deem what it fair, either way I would walk away debt-free though I would not have a home if we sold everything. He told me in one of his pissy moments that if we lose the house (which there is no danger of) he is moving in with his parents with the kids and I am on my own. What he does not realize that no judge would give him custody (has depression , threatened suicide, etc) and the kids would want to be with me. He has a temper too that gets the better of him too much and he is an alcoholic as well. So if a judge gave him custody I would be totally shocked. I am relatively healthy though overweight by 70 pounds, drink a glass of wine 5 days a week maybe (that is it--he drinks 9-12 beers a day --every day--- though he has cut down to 9 since the 13th for which I am happy for though I'd rather he quit altogether---But good thing to find out where you would stand in a divorce and what you would need to do in terms of custody if push came to shove.
I never dropped a baby and shame on anyone who has.
NM
We cut back on driving, and the demand dropped.
Goes to show there is no reason for it to be that high anyway.  If they think they can charge that much and get it, they will.
ever hear of Jessie Tafero - electrocuted for a crime he didn't commit
and the chair malfunctioned while he was being electrocuted, 6-inch flames shot out of his head
Yes, I think it's the most mature decision she has ever made. When she dropped out of school, we
suggested the military and she went ballistic, but a see a few signs of maturity and now she really views it as a career choice for her.  She was told if she went into healthcare that she could be tending to the injured etc.but that she wouldn't be on the front lines. Then again, I was also told that recruiters will say anything to get you to sign LOL..
I hadVonage & experienced choppy & dropped calls. They are much like AOL
and if you do cancel you have to pay a hefty cancellation fee.  Never again.
I LOVE mine; my elec bill dropped 50% sm
once I started hanging more than half my laundry out! Good for the environment too. I can't believe the snobbies who are ready to say you can't use one.
If she'd had an abortion you would never even know about it.
ll
By not having an abortion.

Like I said, it's not ideal, but so many people are so judgemental toward people who have kids young - at least they didn't take the easy way out and get an abortion.  I am not a pro lifer, but I do respect people who are willing to step up and raise their kids no matter what age they are.  I have friends who were forced to have abortions by their parents because they got pregnant young because the parents were so afraid of what people would think, and that's not right either.

I don't think their mom is going to win any mother-of-the year awards, but if she didn't accept Jamie Lynn's decision than she greatly reduces her chances of having a good relationship with the grandchild.  Babies are a gift - even when they aren't born into the perfect suburban home.  I'm not saying teen pregnancy is a good thing, but it happened, and now she has to make the best of a tough situation.

I'm against abortion, as well.
If you're referring to recognizing their civil union as a marriage, I am against it.

If abortion is murder ...
How do you treat a woman who has had an abortion?   Do you treat her differently from a woman who strangled her newborn?  Or a woman who killed the neighbor lady because she wanted the neighbor man for her own?
Love the cell phone commercials (cingular?) about dropped calls
They are so funny.
I agree with abortion being a choice.
should everyone see an ultrasound beforehand?  I am for the choice to do as you choose.  I believe in freedom as well, but there are people out there that believe abortion is murder.  That is all I was stating above there.  What I am saying is that there are circumstances like some named in this thread that shall we say "warrant" an abortion, but those "rules" would need to be up to the lawmaker.  Are we only talking about teenage pregnancies or pregnancies after the age of 45?  What type of pregnancies are we talking about that the mother should look at the ultrasound beforehand?  There would be a lot of ifs, ands, and buts, for this to become a law, wouldn't some agree?  That is all I was stating there.  I think this may have been misinterpreted.  Of course, I believe a woman has the right to choose in regards to her own healthcare whether it be an abortion, a hysterectomy, or to have a fracture fixated.  All the same to me.  Sorry if I have offended anyone, but that is how I feel.
Anonymous question regarding abortion (sm)

With this being a major factor in the political arena right now I wanted to ask this:

For anyone who has ever had an abortion (and there are many of us), were/are you ok with it still or did you have a period of extreme guilt/anxiety over it?  I had one and did not terribly regret it, other than a short grief period, until I actually had children.  I went through about two years of horrible guilt and remorse.  I am now pro-life. I feel an abortion kills an innocent child and causes emotional scars for the mother that will never go completely away.  I feel that I am not deserving of complete happiness in my life, ever, because I denied my child the right to have a life and attempt to find happiness.  I know my reasons at that time and I know I felt like it was something I had to do, but the fact is many of us had them to avoid the shame, embarassment and/or financial burden that we feared.  We thought we couldn't give our child a decent life even if we had him/her.  The thing is, for the small price of some embarassment/shame and inconvenience, we could have given a family without a child a chance to have a child to love and raise, we could have given that child an opportunity to grow and seek happiness, even with obstacles to overcome.  Instead, many of us chose a more selfish route, convincing ourselves it was less selfish.  Anyway, that's how I feel about it.  How about you.

I'm pro-choice. Abortion is not murder. SM
Abortions are performed very early on in pregnancy. I'm afraid to say this, but basically, it is a lump of tissue. Women have to right to form their own opinion, but the idea a person is aborting a roly-poly fully formed baby is a crock. This is propaganda devised by right-winged fundamentalists, many of whom happen to be men.

I do believe in practicing safe sex, so abortion will not be needed. That is the ideal, but we are all only human.

No, I never had an abortion. I had my daughter at age 25, after being married 5 years. My daughter was married at 30 and had her first child at 31. We are both Pro Choice.

What about Gay Rights and FOCA (abortion) then?
hmmmm?

We can legalize Gays and Abortion but prostitution, pot, marijuana etc. (much lesser evils) should be "prosecuted heavily", oh come on .... It's all about "feeling good". If gays 'feel good' with each other and teenage moms 'feel good' to abort then what's your issue with pot or marijuana users? Don't they have a right to feel good with all the economic benefits for government?
Whoever said abortion feels good? nm

I agree..I would even, in this case, opt for abortion.....nm

Pay Rate
Hi.  I'm interested in finding some doctors in my area to do work for extra income at home.  I have 9 1/2 years of experience and work at home for a big national.  I have no idea what the going rate would be or even the basis on which to charge (line, page, ???).  I live in a rural area so it would probably be low-average.  I appreciate any advice anybody could give me on this subject.  Thanks.
I think that is more than most - we used to be about that rate (sm)
til things got really bad in our marriage.
Rate MDs
Hey I had posted awhile back regarding my frustrations finding a decent doctor.  I came across an article talking about rating doctors on the Internet and it listed the RateMDs.com website.  Of course, the AMA and other doctors are all in a huff about patients, God forbid, rating them online.  Anyways, I went to RateMDs.com and found a doctor I had been to had already received a poor rating!  Hehe I added to it.  But I also used it to help me choose a new PCP who had an excellent rating.  The receptionist also told me that they have new patients on Thursday and allot more time so they can go over their medical history and issues!  Wow I thought, that's awesome.  We'll see how it goes.  But if any of you have a doctor you hate, like or need to find a new one, go check it out!

Get over it. Abortion is legal, and American women
nm
Wow! $700 is a good rate to go up there.
I can drive to NY and would spend more than $700 in a week. First, ask exactly what is included in the fee and ask the teacher to give you a better answer on the fundraising issue. If no fundraisers are being done, maybe you can offer to run a couple.

I think your plan is a good one. I usually come up with about a third of the cost of my kid's activities. (Only have the 16 yo left at home now.) The rest they earn by working or through fundraisers.

She'll have a great time in NYC!
We cant buy groceries on a cpl pay rate, so I'm trying to come up with one too.
Not really.
They are getting an hourly rate - just $2 is what I tip.

Yes, thanks for the info. At that rate,

we would have to clean ours every month. Taking a shower now is like getting rained on by rocks. We go through a hot water tank every 5 years. Doggonit! Guess I have to wait until we can get either a new well or a water softening system first. <sigh>

No matter what laws are made, if women want to get an abortion
then they will. I have a couple of abortions prior to a marriage and prior to my 2 children. I have never so called suffered because of my decision, in fact I was young and could not have taken care of any children. I do not regret this decision. Either legal or illegal, makes no difference in a woman making the decision to seak an abortion.
Don't you remember Ronald Reagan's stance on abortion? sm
It was "I'm PRO-CHOICE. If the unborn baby has a choice, I am PRO-CHOICE."

You are correct: The majority of people would NOT vote for abortion
But they WOULD vote FOR Reproductive Choice. Speaking of "activist judges" - how do you feel about the handful that installed a War Criminal in our Whitehouse?
Yes, but abortion would be only taking the budding tomatoe, not the whole plant.
x
no, abortion is taking a HUMAN life with a soul.

Hang on, though. The rate could have changed...sm

If any payments were late (or missed), the rate could have gone up astronomically for the OP.  They may well have gone up and up.  It's probably in the fine print of the card agreement that that will happen automatically with late payments.

And I have heard financial experts say that it's not a good idea to call and cancel a card if you still have a balance on the card, because then you have no way to negotiate with them.  Though it doesn't sound like any negotiating was able to happen in this case, you're supposed to keep asking for the person's supervisor (and their supervisor, if necessay), and be persistent, until you get to talk to someone who can help you with lowering the rate and maybe waiving some of the fees.

Then I would apply for another card with a lower rate (and make darn sure you don't make any payments late or miss any payments!) and transfer that WA MU balance over (and ask if they can wave the transfer fee when you apply for the new card).

BTW, I recently applied for a credit card with WA MU because the offer was for 0% interest for 15 months on balance transfers, and the person was definitely in India.  Every time I interruped him to ask him a question, it was like he then had to start over reading his "script" but I could understand him.

I asked if he could wave the balance transfer fee, and he said he was unable to do that.  I didn't persist or ask to speak to his supervisor, but I should have.  According to the experts, the time to negotiate is before they have your business.  After they  have you as a customer, they aren't so interested!

My property tax rate stays low
because there are so many mansions in my town. There is a house on the market right now for $23 million, plus lots of others in the 5-10 million dollar range. What is really sickening is that these are second or even third homes for some people. But they are paying such high taxes, it really takes the burden off us little guys who live way, way, way on the other side of the tracks.
Would you also want your income taxed at the 40% rate?
At one time England did that.  The friends we had in Cananda said they were taxed to death on their income, but they were pretty pleased with their healthcare.  There is no easy solution.
I got a fixed-rate mortage through
They kept my note through the life of the loan and didn't parcel it off to some other lender. I also had a decent down payment saved up which helped a lot.

I get a bit of real-estate sticker shock too when I see what friends and family have paid for their homes in other parts of the country.

I purchased my home for $86,000. The original asking price was substantially higher, but it sat on the market for quite a while and they had lowered the asking a few times. I think they were just glad to finally get it sold. I have 1600 sq. ft, 3 bedrooms, 1-1/2 baths, dining room, living room, and partial basement. It was built in the mid 70s, so the rooms are not too small like some of the older homes. But it is not as spacious as the open floor designs that are popular today.
Just closed on 4.375 interest rate! nm

Are they adults? No. R-rate means under 17 not allowed. sm
Easy answer.
I know they told me 50 and I collect now at the same rate I collected
after his death when the children were little. However, I was 49 when the youngest turned 16, so I had to wait 1 year to re-collect. The laws may have changed since her situation, but I know this is true for me and I have no other extenuating (?) circumstances.
