I got the best Christmas present today,
an answered prayer. My oldest boy got a job (he's been out of work for 6 weeks)and starts on Monday and the pay is actually pretty good compared to what he has been getting. No box for me to open on Christmas morning, this was all I wanted.
What is your favorite potluck dish?

Talk about a good Christmas present....
Here in Atlanta we have a new member of our community, a 100 day old panda!! She is not on display yet, took her first steps the other day and has to be walking some before her debut. I am so happy. She is absolutely beautiful and her new name is Mei Lan which means Atlanta Beauty. I saw her parents when they first came to live with us several years ago and now I can hardly wait to see her. What a wonderful Christmas present already.....Can't get any better!
What's your favorite classic Christmas song?nm

What's your favorite Christmas treat/candy, etc?
Mine are the 'chocolate oranges' and Andes mints.
For homemade stuff, can't beat fudge, Chex mix and Christmas sugar cookies.
What're your favorites?
My favorite Christmas treat is January 2. lol. be glad when it is over.

By far, our favorite this time of year...
Christmas Vacation - we watch it every year.
Elf is also a great holiday movie
Bruce Almighty
Liar Liar
Austin Powers
Shrek
Ferris Bueller's Day Off
American Pie - not the sequels
Fast Times at Ridgemont High
Porky's
Dumb and Dumber
All time favorite movie?
My absolute favorite, which I can watch over and over, is Grease. Dirty Dancing (the original) plays a close second though.
Sopranos is my all time favorite. Sex and the City...
next...can't wait until the movie comes out!
One of my all-time favorite sayings from my pastor: Givers always sm
have enough. Takers never have enough.
Both me and my husband are big givers- to the church, our family, our friends, strangers. I love to entertain and open up our home to others and this summer, every single Wed. we invite at least 4 families over to come swimming in our pool and just do whatever they want to do to "get away" for a while. We live pretty far out from town.
We love to give and give our time and love, too. It keeps us young, happy, and fulfilled.
The truly happy in life are happy because they give of their time and their life to helping others. When you do that, you really don't have time to harp on the negatives in your life or wonder "why doesn't anyone do that for me?"
Want to be happy? Get over yourself. Go across the street and help your depressed neighbor.
My favorite time of night is when kids and hubby are asleep and the house is quiet...
Usmoms need some quiet time too...don't feel bad for feeling that way...I am sure we have all imagined what it would be like not having kids or a husband...but then that thought goes away and someone yells "Mommy" or "Honey"...LOL...
Yep, I do too. I really do it up for Christmas & it takes a lot of time to put
enjoy it as long as possible! MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR!
DH and I are first time cat owners as of Christmas!
DH and I are first time cat owners as of Christmas! We love our Sophie, she is a great cat. Since we are new to this, I'm looking for some advise.
We are leaving on vacation on Feb 23rd for Ireland and I'm just wanting to make sure I have everything in place for Sophie. Please let me know if I'm missing anything.
MIL will visit every other day (maybe everyday!) for litter box cleanings and playtime. I'm going to leave out 2 litter boxes.
I'll leave out lots of food and water, MIL will refill.
Leave the TV or radio on for some noise.
She is around 2 years old so she is still quite playfull. She has lots of toys laying around.
So am I missing anything? I just don't want her to freak out, but I think she will be ok with the MIL visits.
Thanks!

be thankful to have him around at Christmas time...
and try to overlook some of these things that bother you. My husband is in Iraq and I would give just about anything to have all of his annoying habits around for Christmas. Just a different perspective, but sometimes these things aren't as bad as we think. It is a little endearing that he is so excited at Christmas. Like a kid almost. :)
Christmas Story is my number one off all time - never get sick of that flick! nm

I'm having a hard time too - Charlie Brown's Christmas music has helped some (sm)
It hasn't been very cold around here...parade yesterday we were sweating. One thing that has helped me is I got the music CD from Charlie Brown's Christmas and have been listening to that and watched the little cartoon. That has always been one of my favorites. But I'm just not feeling it much either this year! I think the fact that the stores put the Christmas stuff out right after Halloween and sometimes before just makes it all seem like another day! And for me these days it just seems like a time of year where I have to spend money. Anyway, you're not alone :-)
A present for you mom

there are a lot of articles about fitting in or not....
She was a wedding present
From my husband to me. When we brought her home she weighed just 1.5 pounds. She was so scrawny. We almost lost her twice and boy did she cost us a fortune, but it was well worth it. We found out she had asthma when she was about two and when I found her she was turning blue. She was on steroids for a long time. She weighed 20 pounds, quite a change from when we first got her. Then she ate fake pine needles from our Christmas tree one year and had to have emergency surgery to get this huge wad of needles out of her intestine. She was the sweetest cat and wouldn't hurt anything or anyone. She used to sleep on my head (on my pilow) which drove my husband nuts. LOL. She purred like a race car. I'll miss that definitely. I still have a, what I call, a wacky 10 year old black cat at home. I think he knows she's gone. Thank you so much.
I have always been a little sick of having get everyone a present
It's ridiculous. It's Jesus' birthday, not everyone elses. I would be very happy if I could get away with only buying for my own children for Christmas morning from "santa," and I wouldn't care if nobody got me anything or anybody else got anything for my kids.
It is just so stinking ridiculous to have to buy for my mom, my sister and her spouse, my sister-in-law and her spouse, my brother-inlaw and his spouse, my mother-in-law, my father-in-law, two aunts and uncles, three nephews, three neices, and two cousins.
I am just so sick of the money that is spent for all this cr@p. And it is cr@p. Last year one of my daughters got a piano book from her aunt, and she doesn't even freakin take piano lessons. Might as well just flush your money down the toilet.
Will let other share the present president...
…Now he is 1 that I will change the channels on, always something better to watch such as the cooking shows, animal shows. I knew the election outcome but after that and the flubbs, such as his war and Katrina, other folks can have him as their own. Being as I have never watched the "soaps" don’t have a clue as to what is preemptied there but I have choices here at home and I simply watch what I want to.
Anyone out there with a gothic kid present or in the past???sm
If your child was previously gothic, how long did it take for them to grow out of this phase? I'm tired of seeing our 15-year-old wear black all of the time. She refuses to wear anything else, and the black eyeshadow looks ridiculous. I told her the other day that if she isn't going to wear her other makeup that she wanted over the summer then give it to me as I'd give it to a kid that would wear it - especially since there is some that hasn't been opened yet. She isn't happy that we won't let her get those weird body piercings or tattoos... but oh well, we've told her that until she is on her own she has to live by our rules. Overall she's a good kid and doesn't socialize outside of school so at least we're not dealing with the "what's my kid doing with their friends at night" thing!
yes I believe his present wife was seated next to him
and next to her was Laila's mom. They seemed friendly with each other and both were very supportive of Laila.
The Diaper Genie was the best present I ever got
My husband's friend actually bought it for me.
Birthday present from a 5 year old
When my son was five we were walking to school in March, my birthday month. We were talking about my birthday and he said that he would pick flowers for me for my birthday. Unfortunately, in New York there are no flowers yet in March, and I gently pointed that out to him. His face fell for a moment, and then suddenly brightened with an idea - "You like worms?" he said.
Dogs - past and present
What breed(s) do you have now? What have you had in the past?
I have two Basset Hounds now.
In the past, I've owned a Beagle/German Shepherd mix, a PitBull/Doberman mix, a Beagle, and another Basset Hound. Growing up, I had a Chihuahua and an English Springer Spaniel.
Love Basset Hounds the best of all breeds, followed closely by the Beagle.
Regret not running off with my present husband who used to be my
friend. Yes, my friend and my late husbands friend. We started dating after the other died and if I had known what he was like then, would have left the husband and the kids behind. Never have known such happiness in my life. I wasted years and would like to have those over again- life goes too fast to waste time.
My husband got ours as sort of an early birthday present for me
back at the end of July. My birthday isn't until the middle of September, but he happened to stop at Target on his way to work one day and they had just gotten about 9 or 10 Wii systems in, so he got it then as I had told him that was what I really wanted for my birthday, and he knew that we probably wouldn't be able to find them when it got closer to my birthday. He is just as hooked as I am on it! He has bought himself a ton of games, and I have bought a ton for me too! He likes the war-type/shooting games, and I like the Mario type of games, so I bought every game that had Mario in it and reserved every one that is coming out for the Wii! LOL! Right now, I am playing Mario Galaxy and am totally addicted! I find myself taking breaks during work to get my quick Wii fix! LOL!
Past, present, future. Still expecting miracle.

Need meaningful ideas for Valentine Present for husband, everything is geared up for the ladies!! nm

All I know is that when I had Dish, if we
had 1 raindrop I lost service. Got rid of it the minute my contract was up.
Dish
I have never had any problems with Dish - they even let me have a package most people don't know about - and probably don't want. - I pay $6.00 a month and gey my local ABC, CBC, NBC & Fox channels - and for some reason I get another channel that keeps changing - right now it is the Hallmark Channel - sometimes it is the biography channel and sometimes Animal Planet -this is a good plan for us because we are trying to cut down on watching TV - and it helps us save $.
We used to have dish
Don't know what Direct TV is, but we used to have Dish. Excellent service. The only problem was when it would get windy it would knock it off track and DH would have to readjust it, but was no big deal. Very easy and only took a few secs to move back into place. Never had a problem with interruptions otherwise. I loved it and would get it again. We now have cable cos it was the best deal to get cable/internet/phone all in one package.
Had all 3 and Dish is my fav!!!
Cable in our area stinks. Direct was better than cable, but not near as good as Dish. The options available on Dish are so much better than Direct. Little things, like being able to check the guide while still watching a show and looking up the info on another program and how far ahead you can check the schedules. It's been about 6 years since we switched from Direct to Dish, so maybe they've changed, but I'd go for Dish. They are by far the best.
Not a dish but...
I have a box for chocolates and a basket on my computer tower under my desk with a bag of jelly beans in it. Everyone started raiding my chocolate so I had to get creative and hide it in another part of the house entirely. lol If anyone else has this problem, the bathroom is great! Its up on top of my tallest cabinet behind a stack of decorative towels. :)
How about a smaller dish? nm

you forgot - any mayonnaise containing dish
any dish with mayonnaise cannot be eaten if left out, uncovered, for ANY length of time.....
there are many dishes one cannot eat if left out....general rule is no more than 2 hours on a buffet table or any table for that matter, in my opinion.....cheese comes to mind too left out.....
food safety is very important and the USDA allows certain things that also shouldn't be allowed....
ever read Consumer Reports? I read in there that the govt (USDA) *allows* a certain amount of rodent feces and rodent hair in things like cottage cheese and canned tuna (the latter I love).....and I read that a long time ago....
better to be safe than sorry.......
If I was landlord and OP did dish thing to me,I would

Cable tv versus dish
Can anybody give me their experiences with cable televison or dish, specifically Dish Network or DirectTV?
I am considering getting one of these but don't know which one to go with. Thank you!
have had all three, Dish Network superior
if you have an HDTV I would not recommend cable at all. It may not be true for all cable companies but Adelphia looked horrid on ours. Had Dish Network years ago and they were horrible in the customer service department...never again!!!
Do you keep a candy dish on your desk?
What's inside it?
I have one on my desk, but it usually only has sugar-free gum in it. Boring I know, but I hate it when my kids get cavities and since they raid my dish all the time, I have to take precautions. I also don't want to tempt myself all day long with sugar. Sometimes I get sugar-free Werther's candy or sugar-free lemonade candy but those bags are so tiny they don't last long.
Use every last drop of dish soap...sm
I don't have a dishwasher so I have to use liquid soap. I never throw the bottle away because I can't squeeze anymore out. When I'm running my next dishwater, I run water in the bottle and use every last drop. The cap even has enough residue on it for 1 load. Same goes for shampoo and conditioner. Even laundry soap.
I'll often use shampoo for body wash. If you use Suave or VO5 it's usually only .99 a bottle and when it's on sale for less than that I'll buy a few bottles. It's a lot cheaper than bodywash.
I try to do errands and appointments on the same day. Mapped out right so I save gas.
Never buy infant, toddler, preschool kids clothes brand new. Buy at thrift, second hand stores or garage sales. They outgrow them faster than the bank statement arrives. They also tend to stain and ruin clothes pretty darn easily and quickly.
I have Dish Network and I saw it just fine.
Even recorded it. Too bad I don't know how to send it to you.
Oh, why not try a southern dish, possum
I absolutely have heard of people that have ate this, heard it is terribly greasy. Rabbit is another thing as is squirrel but I have never had, to me it would seem like eating my pet cat. Have heard of all the above except yattle. My mother visiting Mexico years ago told me of having a dish with unborn goat (guess they aborted the babies from the mother goats, ewwwwwww)but then she also ate things like pickled pig feet, pork brains, cow tongue and tripe. My brother and I mostly grossed out. Surprised she did not eat chittlings! Over the years I have stuck to more main stream here in the US and presently hubby and I eat a lot of chicken, not because of it being a more economical meat but more the way they are raised, that being more organic.
Let's Dish the Real Housewives!
I don't think I've ever had a more uncontrollable urge to stick my fist through a television set than when Kelly is on.
Kelly is such a low class, immature, little piece of trash! I never even heard of the b!itch until Housewives this year. I'm not a big fan of Bethany but her little speech she gave her at the bar (after being a half hour late!) really boiled my blood!
I don't think I've ever hated somebody on TV this much before. She totally disgusts me. I hope Bravo drops her off on whatever corner they picked her up after this season is over.
Anyway, moving on.
Ramona is such a jerk to Alex and Simon. Seems she's really holding on to the past. Her husband Mario is no better. He grates on my nerves.
I just love Jill. Can't get enough of her! Alex and Simon have really grown on me.
It'll be interesting next week, Re: the Countess giving her 'talk' to all the middle school students on what being a Countess means, all the while knowing what a train wreck she is now!
Deep dish; Romance or comedy? nm
Like the Voom programming on Dish Network
our favorites. We were crushed when they stopped showing Voom programing
I put Dawn dish soap in the dishwasher
I did not realize laundry soap and dishwasher detergent do not make bubbles. I didn't have any dishwasher detergent so decided to just a few drops of Dawn. Suds came out of the top of the dishwasher and all over the kitchen. For a few drops, it filled the kitchen. You would think it would be easy to clean up but it was terrible. Soap suds can't just be mopped up, especially when they are 3 inches tall. lol
like they say, revenge is a dish best served cold (nm)
