I left my abusive husband when I was 3 months pregnant with
my second child. It was hard, and I cried and ranted and raged most of the time when I was in bed at night for the first 6 months or so. I only made $22,000/year at that time (1984) and had to move in with my parents for a little while so I could get a place to live and get myself together.
But my sons, who are 26 and 23 now, are good men who did not grow up to be abusers themselves. And that made everything worthwhile.
