In Reply to: Claiming adult kids on your taxes - sm

My daughter just turned 21 this past week and we have continued to claim her through 2008 as she has not been able to keep a job because of issues.  She got a job late December 2008 so we will not be able to claim her next year if she continues to work all year. We have an accountant do ours and the other poster is right. If your providing over 50% of their support, then you can claim them. My child worked a couple of odd jobs but not even enough to file taxes. So, basically, if you claim them as a dependent, then they cannot file too.
