We recently moved back to Ohio to be near my parents (ages 77 and 79). My dad is very healthy, stills works an outside job. My mom is starting to get a little demented, I think. I worry about her when dad is at work. She falls asleep while cooking food on the stove, forgets to turn off stove/oven, has COPD/asthma and I am afraid she will fall one of these days. If you talk to her about any of the above, she will adamantly deny all of it. I am afraid if my father dies first, my siblings and I will be in the same boat as you. I dread the thought.
