I was actually able to take the used candle back to the store and exchange it. I ended up getting a biscotti Wood Wick (Virginia Candle Co) candle that smells wunnnderful..i haven't lit it yet...but I did get a few of the Yankee tarts... Right now I have the fresh cut roses one melting and it smells pretty good!
Somebody also told me Circle E candles are great...anybody tried them?
Thanks for all of your suggestions

Yankee candles
I spent 22 bucks on an Autumn Wreath Houswarmer Yankee candle the other day...and for that price I expected knock-me-down scent for days. Well I lit it and put it in my upstairs bathroom and it spelled pretty good. Then the next day when i lit it I noticed it didn't seem quite as strong. Well today I lit it and i can barely smell it though it's been lit for hours. I have kept the lid on it when not in use. What a waste of money!
I used to buy my candles from an online candle company called Two Blue Candle Co but she went out of busiess and obviously Yankee isn't doing it for me. Anybody got any suggestions on how to get my candle "stink" fix?
yankee candles
I love my Yankee candles! I'm really shocked you don't smell yours. I buy them regularly. Do you keep your wick trimmed? Every once in a while, when the candle is hot, I may have to scrape the sides of the glass so it it all melts but I can't complain. Also, when the wick totaly burns out and there is still a bit in the bottom, I set the glass in my burner and it still smells good! Maybe you should take it back and see if they will let you exchange it???
I don't burn candles from Yankee, but
I use those wax tarts in a tart warmer, and I found that the ones from Yankee smell the longest. They give off more of a smell in your house than candles do. Plus you can get an electric warmer, so you don't have to worry about the flame if you have animals or such, as I do. Works much better for me, just a suggestion.
I burn Yankee Candles
Right now I have one going in my office that is called "beach towel" and it smells like the beach on a hot summer day! (I'm in denial because I live in New England and it's cold here now!) In my living room, I am burning one called "chocolate chip cookie" and it smells like just someone is baking cookies! I love it! I go to Yankee Candle about twice a month and stock up! I just got about 5 of their new Christmas candles that I can't wait to burn.
I use the Yankee tarts and they are much stronger than the candles.....
I felt as you did about the candles and figured what's the point? The tarts must have a higher oil content in them because it is a HUGE difference. Sometimes it is too strong, lol. I also like that you can reuse them a couple of times, I will even take the hardened wax out of the warmer and store them if I want to change the scent right away. Do try them, you will be pleased.
Oh and you have to try these two - Mandarin/Cranberry and Macintosh/Peach..unbelievablygood smelling!
Come back and let us know what you think.
You will never waste your money on Yankee candles again after trying these!
:-)

New favorite Yankee Candles scent
I ordered a box of new spring scents (tarts) and I have to say Velvet Petals is my new all time favorite, with Midnight Jasmine running a close second.
What's your favorite?
Do you burn candles or oils or use other aromatherapy while you work? Love candles &

Another Yankee
I'm still trying to get the mental image of "jowl meat" out of my head. I keep seeing Richard Nixon's head on a plate.
Rather be a redneck any day than a YANKEE ! nm

Don't want to be a redneck, but rather than a YANKEE! n/m

I burn those Yankee tarts in my tart burner
right now have Christmas Wreath in to get me in the spirit. I think they give off more of a smell than the candles.

Can't help it but I'm an ebay freak.
This is actually a good deal on pinecone candles if you could get it. 270115615311 . 7 candles in total and these look like the ones I have. I bought several packs on sale 3 years ago in Michigan and have not seen them around here. I live in Santa Claus, we set out luminaries every year in the paper sacks on christmas eve and this past year it rained so I picked up all the candles and have been making my own. Need to by me a pinecone mold! Another idea would be to buy some wax and add oil and possibly some glitter and dip your own pine cones. I have seen these at festivals and then arrange in a basket. You can also check crateandbarrell.com they have some white ones. I have see several napkin holders made of berries and pinecones, target sells those still or you could make your own. Mine are dark brown with a gold (probaby rub-n-buff that can be bought in craft section) applied to the tips of the petals. I was in Waynesboro a couple months ago..should have picked up those cones! Gosh now I'm in the christmas spirit!
Candles
I almost always have a Yankee candle going while I work. They have the best scents IMO hands down, and I've tried many others. So many good ones . . . if you like herbs try Lavender-Sage. It's wonderful. Mistletoe is another nice one for this time of year. I like fruity in summer and the "sugary vanilla" ones for now - buttercream, Christmas cookie, I could go on and on . . .

Yankee candles are so good but I think too expensive. Does anyone have a source for another brand of a good candle, mostly votives?
Making candles
I had heard that you can save up the scrap wax from candles in glass jars, melt all of them down and put them back in the containers, adding a wick and scent such as cinnamon. So, I've been saving my containers with the bits of leftover candles. Anyone know how one goes about doing this? Is it possible to do this?
THANKS!
who's lighting the candles?
I too had a small wedding and my matron of honor's son who was 12 at the time went up and lit all of the candles.
You don't have to have them involved. You should not be guilted into creating spots. Just tell them that you wanted them to "enjoy" your day.
I have many scented candles
that I got as gifts. I always say I am going to use them (my son does not believe me). I think it would be nice while taking a bath...but maybe I should do it while I am working or I will never get the chance...because I am always working! I have two Yankee candles. I am sure they would smell wonderful.
I really like Circle E candles
Cheap candles are a waste of money IMO. What's the point of buying them if you can't smell them?
LOL I just bought some candles SM
at the dollar store - I actually prefer them. I think because they are such cheap candles that the scent is not as strong as the nicer ones, but for me it is perfect - just enough to smell nice without being overpowering. I was just thinking I could buy 325 candles for the price of 1 of those Jo Malone candles. LOL
Febreze candles
I bought one of the seasonal Febreze candles and was very dissapointed! THe candle smelled so good in the box. I had 2 of them lit in a 1200 sq foot home and could smell NEITHER ONE. I guess i will stick with Yankee Candles !!!
We used to use the wax milk cartons for candles sm
when I was a kid. We used to put some ice in the carton and then add the wax. It always made different looking candles. Also, if you have an old electric mixer, you can make the wax foamy while it is still liquid and look like suds or piles of snow.
No unburned candles in my home - all lit at least once

The best candles I have EVER smelled in my life -
Come from Old Virginia Candle Company. I have bought lots of their candles over the years. However, since QVC began carrying their line their shipping practices have really gotten sloppy if you actually purchase from the company itself. I received a badly broken candle (the kind poured in glass), which took them a month to replace. I was never able to speak with an actual person at that company when they found out I was not a vendor, just a personal user of their products. Everything was done via e-mail. Their products, however, really have a nice fragrance that you CAN smell, lit or unlit. Give them a try. :-)
I just went there today and bought candles!
Love them! I always buy candles there! I am burning gingerbread right now :)
Candles (try Sugar Shack) s/m
They're out of Edgar, NE. I fell in love with a Plumeria one when visiting a sister up there. Started ordering them, then got a tax ID #, attempted to sell them, but never made any $ on them. The votives are pretty good, but with the regular candles, they're in glass jars, which keep the fragrance really well. You may want to check out their w/s. Not sure how far you are from NE. Obviously I am, being in TX.
Yes - I've made hundreds of candles
and have used tons of scrap wax - not from glass jars but believe that could be done. My recommendation for doing this: Use double boiler - pot of water, large coffee can filled with water and your candle jar clothes-pinned to side of coffee can or other large can.... water in inner can will eventually melt jar wax and then you will need to very carefully pour jarred wax to another container. Be sure the inner coffee can filled with water has enough water in it to come up to the level of at least half of jar candle - does that make sense? Jarred candle needs to sit down inside water to melt.... You can do just the jar inside a pot of water on the stove but the inner can just gives you another layer for safety... good luck!
Love the Wood Wick candles...sm
sounds like a crackling fire...and they are strongly scented - excellent quality. I also like the Swan Creek Candles. They are highly scented and have some delicious scents. My favorite is Buttercream Vanilla and they have crumbs on top of the candle that melts...wondeful...
Never heard of Circle E candles but try Swan Creek if you see them!
I can't burn scented candles in my house because it will

Thanks for the update. I'm sorry about
your brother and his family. What a shame. I'm glad Sasha had a good day. It must be really hard for you, because you probably want to pour your heart out to your brother about Misha, but you probably don't feel comfortable doing that with his loss, too. Well, I'll be thinking about you and sending up prayers, now for your whole family. I hope tomorrow is a better day, and so on, and so on.
Thanks for the update
Hi Stephanie. Glad to hear that your trip to the doctor was helpful. I know I really need to
get into the exercise too. Never was that big on exercise before, but now with the pain and fatigue, it is really hard to get motivated. I will just have to force myself. Yuck!!!
Update
I should add that I already get weekly massages and have for the last 4 years. My therapist has been advising me to try chiro for about 3 of those years. Of course, I waited until I really hurt before I went! I asked a friend of mine where she was going and she said that she really trusted him, so I decided to try where she goes. He took a detailed history and 2 x-rays. He also gave me a little adjustment, which has helped a little. It was just gentle pressure. I go back tomorrow to see about a treatment plan.
Thank you very much to everyone who offered suggestions of what to look for. Your back is really nothing to mess around with!
Update on dog from below sm
The poor thing died. I'm so heartsick. The police want an official statement from all of us who saw this morning (there were 4 of us). The owner said her dog was "poisoned." I'm going up to the station in a while to talk with the chief. I'll have more information later.
Update on my vet job
So I started out just cleaning nights and giving the animals fluids/meds on the weekends and cleaning more. One of the day girls fell down some stairs so the vet asked me to fill in for her. I got a crash course in doing anesthesia! I really like it but have had a couple animals stop breathing a few times and one his heart actually stopped. I almost peed my pants when that happened. I also got to do x-rays and an EKG on a dog Monday. If only this job paid better than transcription
Update......
Well, I just checked my account again and the $2420 is back in the account due to non-sufficient funds. There is, however, a $34 non-sufficient funds fee that will be refunded back to me after the dispute is over. I know that in the big picture of things this does not sound like a lot of money, but it's my money I worked for and intend to get back. I also called the bank back and made sure that PayPal could not try to take out the money again since it was reversed due to NSF. After the dispute and we know more information, I can totally freeze PayPal from ever taking any money out of my account again. Right now it can only be done for the exact amount they tried to take out yesterday. I also told PayPal to take every bit of information they had on me out of their system, that I would never be needing their services again.
The scammers just didn't count on me being a poor working girl with little money left at the end of the month. Maybe they should give working a try instead of trying to steal other people's hard-earned money.
Thank you all for your replies. This just makes me all the more aware of what I am doing on-line. I have bought many items on-line, and this is the first time anything like this has happened to me. If they hadn't been so greedy, I probably would have had to wait out the whole ten days.
Thank you for the update sm
I started to ask yesterday but didn't send my post through because I thought it might be to painful. Please know that many here are thinking about you. Prayers.
Thanks for the update. That was
enjoyable to read.
Sounds like the birds appreciate each other already.
Yesterday I had a great time watching several cardinals bathing in my sprinkler. It is so hot that they stayed in the water for hours. My impatiens appreciated the extra-long shower they received because the cardinals were so cute. It's not my day to water today, but the cardinals show up now and then, hoping.
They ignore the shallow birdbath.
Thank you for the update
At least the police know about the situation. Maybe they can have a talk with the owners when they return.
If you know anyone who doesn't live in your neighborhood who would like to have a sheltie - you know, if it were me, I would give it to them. The neighbors have been gone so long, if the dog disappears one night, who is to say what happened, right? They don't deserve to have a dog if they are going to treat it this way.

thanks for update
Hi Trose,
Glad you called your brother and went to your doc today....ERs on the wknd are rough. Hope you get feeling better soon. Keep us all updated. Cat
Update...
First of all, thanks to everyone for their thoughts.
I went to the hospital myself and began asking questions of the charge nurse. She was very helpful and reviewed the chart and also got on the phone to the various doctors to answer my questions.
The problem is not what I thought it was. He WAS evaluated by a doctor and even had a CT scan in the first 30 minutes after he was admitted. None of the family knew this as no one had made it to the hospital at this point. Apparently, FIL just did not remember this. I guess the moral to this is do not let a patient out of your sight even for a short period of time.
He is being kept n.p.o. due to the head injury and in case they needed to operate (which by the way they are doing tomorrow to relieve compression on the spinal cord.) He was not given dextrose through his IV because of its potential to cause swelling, which is not a desired effect in a patient with a head injury. He did get food trays today, but will not receive anything else until after his surgery first thing in the morning.
Thanks again for everyone's recommendations.
An update...
Well, I had a heart to heart with my daughter yesterday. I broke down in tears and just told her how disappointed I was in her decision to become sexually active and how my heart was broken for her. She cried and said she didn't want to do it again, so I hope she was being honest with me. I found out more disturbing information on her loser boyfriend having to do with some legal trouble he's been in. We are giving her a chance to break up with him (she doesn't know that we know about the probation, arrests, etc.), but if she doesn't, we may press charges against him, just to get rid of the loser.
Backtracking a bit, our son works for the sheriff's department, along with a lot of his buddies, who did some checking on this guy, and dug up a laundry list of trouble he's been in. Our son is talking to our daughter today, telling her what he knows, and giving her til tonight to break it off completely with this guy, or he's telling her he'll file charges himself against this boy. He's already checked it all out and there are things we can get him on, but we really, REALLY don't want to go this route. It would be so hard on our daughter. I just want the boyfriend to disappear, go away, and leave her alone. So now, it's not so much about s-e-x anymore, but about her getting herself into some legal trouble by association with this idiot.
AND...his mother told my DD's best friend and my DD that she would LIE TO US about the whole situation if need be. How can a mother allow a girl to hang out with her loser, ex-con son??? It is beyond me...if it were my son, I'd tell the girl to run, not walk, away from him, he's nothing but trouble.
Anyway, thanks y'all so much for the support and advice. I think I handled it ok. I think she was shocked and surprised at how upset I was. I just admitted to her that I didn't expect this so soon, that I really didn't know how to handle it, and that I was disappointed in her actions, BUT that her father and I both love her very, very much and we will always be here for her, no matter what happens.
It was really emotional, but good I think for the both of us. Her 2 best friends came in in the middle of it all, and they too spilled their guts to her, so that helped also. We all cried and laughed, and talked. BTW, I don't mention her father much, but he's here...we're married and living together...all 3 of my kids have the same father. We've been married over 20 years now. He's mad, upset, disappointed, and just chomping at the bit to get his hands around this kid's throat, of course...that's how men handle things, right? But overall, he's been great.
Thanks again, y'all!
Thanks for the update...sm
Hi Deb,
I'll check in with his mom's web page to see what kinda hats he prefers (baseball caps, knit caps, perhaps something felt, really funky like they wear at ski resorts, doo rags or those little wrap caps with flames that bikers sport) and what states he's already gotten hats from....Don't want to duplicate or bore him. Update
She came home from school today in a much better state of mind with regards to physics class. She spoke to her teacher who explained things a lot better not only to her, but to the whole class (she isn't the only one who was having problems). She had homework tonight that she did with just one question for her father. For now I'm going to let her stay in the class, but I'm going to keep checking up on her, and see what happens after her first test. Thank you all for all your help and advice.
update....sm
My husband does not know it yet, but we have a meeting tonight with the other parties involved. I have to see this woman's face so that I know what she looks like so I will know if she is anywhere we are. Both sides have agreed to no fighting or arguing. We, meaning me and the other husband, are interested in seeing the other person because we have both been thinking when we walk down the street, is that her/him??
I have booked an appointment for marriage counseling but we can't get in until Jan. 8th, and I have myself on the cancellation list to get in sooner if possible to talk to someone earlier if they have an opening.
Thanks again for all the support. I really appreciate it and thanks to all who have cared enough to e-mail as well.
update
They found this girl, dead, and are investigating it as a homicide.
oh and BTW --- update
Since her surgery probably 4 years ago, she's had a breast reduction and whatever that is that gets rid of all the loose skin on the belly. And she did some eye stuff too. Her husband is happy and she looks fabulous!!
