Apparently paying my Iowa taxes
Man, they've gone up. Dang it all to heck.

Otherwise, I'll be using the difference by knocking out my small bills in anticipation of paying off our zillions of dollars worth of student loans in about 800 years.
I'm more forward ...
I would call the nephew and tell them that I had not extended the invitation to he nor his friends, that I am hosting others this year. I would suggest to him that he learn to be a more pleasant guest and tell him (politely and calmly) why.

If he showed up, I would not answer the door.

I would also follow up with my invited guests as an "RSVP" inquiry to make sure you are set for those individuals plus your own immediately family only. I would make it clear you are only expecting those individuals. If they call and ask about the nephew coming, I would state that he had been invited last year and maybe next year you can accommodate he and his buddies but not this year - and he has been made aware of this when he tried to invite himself.

I would not be the slightly bit cool or hateful in my tone but just be very nice and simply state the facts.

Before anyone jumps down my throat, I've raised my boys - I know how a couple of their friends behaved at my home. I did the same with those 2 boys and 1 of them settled down and actually became a great guest. The other, well let's just say he was not interested in being someone we would want around here.

As the host, I believe you have the right to have those you invite, are prepared for, and to have your guests respect the host. It sounds like the nephew and buddies need to learn a little lesson and I would initiate the lesson as above. Whether it is absorbed or finished is up to them.

Good luck!

Oh please, is there a way I can forward this? nm

Believe it or not, looking forward to being 66!
Ladies, this age comes before you know it. Seems like yesterday I was in high school and now time to draw my retirement- not stopping work- just drawing the money I have put in. I am such a happy girl- I have really worked over the years- the first year showing was when I was a senior in high school. I have worked many, many jobs, at least 2 at 1 time and it now is paying off. Lacking $76.00, I will get home with $2,000 a month - aint that grand! My daughter is returning to college for 2 more courses she needs to take for her job and I can fund that and would love to take my husband on an Alaskian cruise but he is a stay-at-home and would rather spend his vacations around the house. I will think of some place he should love, perhaps tell him about the good food in Italy and get him there! Time just flies when you're having fun....
Thanks for those words, yes, I am looking forward - sm
to some road trips next Spring and Summer; and maybe this Fall as well. This one sounds just like what you had; same set up inside, beds pull out, bed over the table, whole thing cranks up with a turn handle on the outside. It does have a stove, sink/water; with the hook up outside. Very basic but what else do you really need. Probably cook outside most of the time anyways (have a portable coleman grill too) and I have camp training from Brownies too as a co-leader so open fire cooking is not a problem. We have laptops for movies if necessary to have the kids chill with while we chill outside maybe; and for comfort will put in AC/heat eventually, but we would never use it it the heat of the summer probably, more Spring and Fall so we can do w/o the AC. My DH is so excited about this, as I said he has been really wanting to do this for years. He never got to do anything with his parents (they never went on any summer vacations) so he is like a kid all over when he gets to do things he never did before. I am hoping now that we did get this maybe to do a road trip next summer for at least a week, maybe the Smoky mountains down in TN(after we have AC), or head to NY or maybe Maine, go places we have never been and do whatever. It is getting poured on right now so I will find out tomorrow when I pick it up if it has any leaks at least!
Pay it Forward - let's revive it!
With the economy as it is, I was thinking it would be really great to revive the "Pay It Forward Idea" or the "Random Acts of Kindness" idea. If we could all commit to do something nice for someone we wouldn't have done otherwise with in the next week, and ask them to "Pay It Forward" think of how many people would be affected? It doesn't have to be anything involving money, it can be anything that helps the person in some way or brightens their day.  Please say yes!?
I hear ya! I need something to look forward to.
I like to take day trips, Shipshewana, Metamorra, community events where people sell things on the street. Not my husband, that's the last place he wants to be. I've done these things with my sister and my kids in the past. After not going to any of those types of places the last five years, no one wants to go with me next week. So, I'm going by myself.

Just Saturday, I told my husband I was going next week. He asked if the girls were going (they are 16 and 14) and I said nope, I'm going by myself. Kind of scary, but by golly I'm going to do it. I now have something to look forward to!
thanks to both of you! i look forward to getting to know him more and will try to posts occasionall
just had to earn more income this week as it is last paycheck before christmas and i have done absolutely NO shopping. guess i'll be the fool in the crowd on christmas eve. just had to share a funny though as i was explaining diff between acute care/clinics i mentioned macros in the breezing. i am now in the process of helping his office MT girls and docs set up some macros for the docs, LOL. they are inhouse, 2 MTs for 6 FM MDs. i'll make sure to invite everyone on MTstars to the wedding!!!! haha, have a hard work day!!
anybody looking forward to todays Dr. Phil???

cant wait, mine comes on in 1 hour...central time..

Several have come forward to plaster their face on TV
and apparently he inappropriately touched some of them so yes he is on the wanted list. You would think by the time women get to be, oh say 17 or 18, that they would have the sense to know when something really wrong as in this case. One lady shown long enough in the tooth to know much better!!
Do you still love him??!!! Looking forward to life w/o him

Thank goodness for fast forward on DVR! - sm
One word - LAME!!
POLL:What show are you looking forward to this fall?

I just Netflixed the first season of Friday Night Lights and I am HOOKED! What a wonderful show.  I can't wait for that to start.

Also, looking forward to Gray's Anatomy, but hoping for a much lighter season this fall.  Last year was such a drag after the first two.

Thanks for the happy thoughts, but I'm really looking forward to Jan. 2nd and back to normalcy. n

Flash forward: If the bullied child goes postal some day,

Getting the stick sounds pretty straight forward to me
You could talk to someone at the school, tell them what you know, what you plan on doing, and see what kind of support becuase they may suspect problems but don't have facts.

I admit sometimes it seems easier just to look the other way, but what if there was someone that could have helped Caylee Anthony and "looked the other way". Follow your instincts.

If your suspicious prove unfounded you are out nothing but a "friend". He doesn't seem like someone I would want to be friends with and if his child acts the way you say, I wouldn't encourage a friendship between the boys.
C'mon, It's a mail forward, I didn't write it myself.

I never forward things based on threats or promises of luck. (sm)
I forward things that I like the message on sometimes but not because I am told to forward it.
I've heard of tops and also heard it is a good group.

Happens a lot apparently
One time I bought a Coleman camp stove at Wal-Mart. Got to the camp site and went to set up my "kitchen area" and opened the box and SOMEONE'S OLD CAMP STOVE -- still with grease in it. I was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO mad.

When I got home I took it back to the store and asked to speak to the manager, explained the situation and they took it back.

I hope they believe you. It is a shame to have to live in a world with people who not only want to screw Wal-Mart but also their fellow consumers :(

Apparently so

I send my niece a birthday card with money in it every year. I always have to ask my brother if she received it or not. She doesn't even come to the phone and thank me for it, and he doesn't ask her to. That's why for a couple of years I quit sending it....but I figured hey, they can be rude but I'm not going to.

When my son graduated high school, he verbally thanked the people who were here who gave him gifts and/or money, and he either hand wrote (yes, I made him) or emailed distant relatives to thank them.

Oh, by the way - my brother hasn't sent my son a birthday present or card since he was about five years old. I love my brother dearly, but sometimes I just want to smack him.

Apparently not.
Looks like mod fixed it anyway:) Unbelievable that they have that much time on their hands....must be really boring over there:)
Though I am not apparently old enough
to be "older than dirt" I do remember quite a few of the things you mentioned.

Mostly because I grew up in a poor family, and because my grandparents raised me. Many of the things mentioned, they still had and used when I was little.

They lived in a very rural area, and believe it or not they still had a "party line" until the 80s!

My grandparents kept a lot of things even as they became obsolete. I think it was a great history lesson for me.

I remember by grandpa told me he bought a ཾ Chevy Impala brand new from the factory for $6000. That was the biggest amount he ever had paid for anything. He bought it that way of course because it was cheaper. It was even more discounted because back then you could buy a car without seatbelts installed. They were still in the box they came in and in the trunk of that car when he gave it to my uncle in 1989. The car was still in mint condition.

I remember when my brother turned 13 he got an 8-track tape player for his birthday. We thought that was state of the art. Back then I guess it was.

I still prefer a lot of old things. Did you notice that people just don't fix things anymore? We live in a disposable society nowadays and people act accordingly.
Apparently!
I'm from SE Pennsylvania about 50 MI W of Philly. I didn't think I had an accent at all, but on a trip to Alaska TWO different strangers were able to tell where I was from. One girl in Alaska said I sounded like her father who, as it turns out, lived in a town only 3-4 miles from where I was brought up. Another woman recognized it from living in another town only about 10 miles away.

And I don't sound like Philly, really! (At least I didn't think I did!) YO! ADRIAN!

She's paying for it
You can be sure she is paying for the extra attention. Also, the hospital likely insisted that all that security be provided, not because they are necessarly worried about Britney but about people trying to get near her. The last thing they want is for her to get harmed while she's in their institution.

Usually if there is a VIP patient, they don't keep the chart all in one place - they parse it out in 3 or more different locations under lock and key.

Britney has always gotten that kind of treatment - when she was in Mousekeeters, everyone had to leave the gym where she worked out when she came for her exercise. Britney is a little snot, always has been even as a young teenager - turns on the sweetness for the cameras. Millions of people have bought her act.

However, I do feel for her in her present situation and hope she can turn her life around now.
well I don't have snow, but apparently from the looks of it-
not much grass.  This time of the year it is easy to tell that I have a bumper crop of wild onions and they are a lot higher than the grass that is greening up.  I have daffodils, hyacinths and crocus.  How long until you see green?
Apparently you are not tired enough of it
As you are still letting them out and expecting a different result. You can only truly control YOUR actions. Keep the cats inside.
Well apparently he does more than just dancin'!

In charge of nothing, apparently.
That kind of power is too much for most people.
Statements from ones who know apparently not much about
the south. Her comment I do not consider a political one. She stated how we in the south have some sort of culture where dogfighting just goes hand and hand with being from the deep south. Where she ever got this idea- she is not from here and apparently has not been here much to have made such a statement. She tried to retract her statement about Vick but to me that was not the problem- if she wants to condone someone who would treat animals like that- her business- but we in the deep south really offended by people like Vick and her also.
Not taking up for her, but apparently being
mentally challenged, to her it was like when you see someone you know and popping them on the shoulder to say hi. Granted, she actually hit instead of a pop, but take into consideration her mental condition. She was not meaning to hurt you and I am glad it was only a bruise and nothing more serious. Hopefully, mgmt knew her and her family and will get in touch with them.
Apparently MS hasn't seen the Mac

Me again, tell you what I did about paying a bill for a dog
like I said above, huge animal lover. I have 3 furkids but a friend of mine whose son is a druggie, was not seeing about his dog. The dog needed an operation for a growth on his foot. I paid over $1000.00 for that and now I buy my newly adopted doggie its medicine each month. I never give my friend money because want the money to go for the doggie, not drugs for her kid but you can believe I am seeing the doggie is comfy!
Okay, I don't mind paying
to make sure everything is in order! Thanks for all the advice!

paying for college
I have two sons in college right now ...one out-of-state, one in a private university.  They both end up getting paid to go to school because they have so many scholorships.  Did the high school counselor help me find any....NO. We are in a small town and I got no help from the school or town. Neither one of my sons played any sports...but I will tell you what I found out...what is more important is that your child is involved in school and the community.  They don't care if they  have ever worked a day in their life...they want to know what they have done in school grade wise, and community wise. Even just ringing the bells for the Salvation Army at Chrismtas time will earn you a scholorship. I filled out over 56 scholorships for both my sons to go to school for free...you just have to learn as you go how to word answers on the scholorships.  We are not poor but we are not rich...but we made to much money to get any FAFSA help.
paying off bills
In our case, we refinanced through someone in our church who had a refinance company.  It included all our credit cards and no, we did not have to cut them up.  We still have them and DO NOT EVER USE THEM.  It also included paying off our cars.  The reason we had so much debt is because I wasn't able to get enough work at that time, now it is great and I can only say we pray and God has blessed us above measure, more than we deserve.
paying off bills
BTW we also pay an extra $100 each month on our mortgage.  Years ago someone told us to do that and were never able to until now.  Yes, I work hard, but we are doing great and even eat out once or twice a wk and sometimes more.  This friend in our church also agreed paying the extra $100 a month.  I have heard other fincance people on the Christian radio station saying the same thing, so it does make sense.  You pay the extra amount on the principal only.

I am not against paying for your child's
but I have no intention of doing that for my own children. There are so many kids out there who have everything handed to them. I believe it will teach my children the value of a dollar and the value of their education if they pay for it themselves or with scholarships and hard work. I do encourage them to keep their grades up and will encourage them to apply for scholarships, grants, etc. I think either parent should have to foot the bill for college. If they want to, great; if not, I don't believe the court system should get involved.
Wow if you & hubs are paying that much
in taxes and didn't qualify for stimulus check (because you make too much?), ya'll must be rakin' it in!! Don't think you deserve much sympathy either, right? I know you we're asking for it, but seems a little harsh to kick someone when they're down...
Paying down debt

It is getting harder to make ends meet because of all the straws in our bank account.  I have 17k in CC dept alone.  It is with 4 different CC companies.   One CC has $200, #2  has about 4K, #3 has about 2K, #4 has 10k.  The 10K one has a 15 % APR, the others I believe range from 24% to 29% APR.  My biggest monthly payment is my house and I owe only  $4700 on it and it has 6.3% APR.  I sold some things and am getting $5K and that will be enough to pay off my house.   I would love to finally, officialy own this house and get rid of that $350 monthly pmt,  but I wonder if I should not pay down on the CC because of the high interest rates.  Any opinions.  TIA.

Paying Down Debt
I feel you, believe me.  First, Bravo to you for facing this.  That's the hardest part.  I think if you are so close to paying off your house, you wouldn't want to take out yet another loan against it.  Additionally, the interest rates aren't that great.  What is the total of payments you are making on your credit cards?    If you can slap that 5000.00 on your debt first on all of the higher interest ones perhaps paying some of them off.  That will free up extra money to put on the rest of your credit cards.  Then once the credit cards are paid off, you can then work on the mortgage (I WISH I had your mortgage..).  Also we work in an industry where it is easy to pick up extra work---have you thought of that just to get extra money to pay off the debt?  That's what I'm trying to do.  Things are just so bad right now.  Good luck, hope this helps...
Forgot to add - what about them paying
for their part of the cell phone bill as well as insurance on their vehicle?
Apparently you did not read all of her posts
either.
Missed a lot of the discussion apparently - sm
What I don't understand is where you get that all unwed mothers are drug addicts or alcoholics.

That is not true at all. Sure, it happens to some but for you to lump unwed mothers into that category is terrible.

You don't know my personal circumstances. I don't know yours.

I'm just saying that I would like to help others that are in the same situation I was in way back when. Hopefully I would be able to help them so they don't have the struggles that I had.

Thankfully, my child and I were never homeless but I worked my tail off to make sure that didn't happen. I sometimes worked 2-3 jobs.

I also worked my way through school. I didn't get hand outs, didn't expect them either but it really would have been wonderful if someone was there to guide me to the things that I needed to do. Maybe it wouldn't have taken me so long to get to where I needed to be.

Absolutely nothing is free in this world and that would not be the point.

However, this is a dream we are talking about right? This isn't about socioeconomic dysfunction. It's about someone wanting to help someone else.
Your dress code is not being followed apparently,
because you yourself state your neice wore shorts too short and your son had to change his shirt. If your school had uniforms, these would not happen. Any disruption, such as having to pull this child or that child out for breaking the dress code or other things disrupts your educational system, understand?
It's apparently one of *those* emails - it's not true...
