Just having one of those days. My 3 year old received a Diego toy that he loves! Unfortunately, his 5 year old brother loves it too!  I am off today, thank God. Thinking of taking them to see Mr. Bean's Holiday...Oh the joys of homeschooling...

I LOVE it! On most days..

How is your son feeling today?
My 3yo had a fever last Friday. Don't you just feel so terrible when they're sick?
Pugmom...How are you feeling today??.....
Did you get into the ED or your doc? What did they say? Hope you are feeling better today. Still keeping you in my thoughts.
Pugmom....How are you feeling today?

We have not heard from you. How are you doing? Did you get to the ED? Did you get any meds? Hope you are feeling better and that no news is good news.

Gee I hope he starts fitting in and feeling at home soon LOL
I love how comfy he looks.  It is a sign of a loving puppy home that he fit in so quickly and was that relaxed...  He is beautiful
My puppy gets to come home today!!!
Okay, have not seen her yet - they want to bathe her and clean her all up before I pick her up, but the vet says everything is good to go and she can come home this afternoon!!!
You are right, too much work today
I am thinking social security and that kicks in for me at 67. I would love to stay on hubs insurance rather than receive Medicare at 65 but will check closer to then.
No work for me today
I don't work at all on the weekends. And today I'm extra glad. The weather here in NY is beautiful. About 75 and not a cloud in the sky and this is the second week of October. Just got back from visiting the neighbors and watching all the kids playing outside.
I was going to say a million dollar home today
in the NE isn't all that spectacular, sadly. And for only 300,000 you can get a fixer upper! Isn't that special? lol
My work suffered today because of this
You have said now what my husband said about taking the furniture. I will make this 1 trip in the morning to see if my check will be there....I would love to picket in front of their place and yes I would do that with the hrs I could spare. I cannot believe this can happen to not only me but others. It is highway robbery and no one can stop it?? Maybe I can sleep on it overnight and sometimes the answers come that way. I will try and see. I so much appreciate each and everyone who took the time to give advice.
We were talking about this at work today.
No way would I stand up there with him.
I think I would let my husband have his humiliation publicly, and I would handle mine privately.
Worse, cardiac arrest at his home today.
NM
I know- why don't I work at home instead??
My priorities are in line. Money is not my priority right now, my children are. Nobody must love you, do they? poor thing! Wonder why?
Try this too....tell them you work at home if you do
It saved me 50% on my premium just for that!  Some companies do not do this but others do.  Maybe try finding an insurance agency close by where they can shop for the best rate.
I work from home sm
and even without distractions there are a few days when I can't concentrate at all. I contribute it to burn-out, luckily after a good work out, a short call to a dear friend, or a wonderful piece of chocolate cake I can motivate myself to get the work done.
Do you work at home?
Maybe he is afraid of interrupting your work.
I just got home from work and
checked the board to find all these kind responses. It means so much to me that we have this love of our pets and can share the sorrow of their loss.

Here is another picture of CJ and Sasha and me at one of our favorite parks:
If you work at home -- how come so much gas

If you work at home, maybe these

feelings have nothing to do with your husband and marriage, but everything to do with your job.  Being at home so many hours, every day being mostly the same can really make a person feel nutty.

Just a thought.

just because you work at home
None of my daughter's friend's mothers work. Since I work at home it looks to them like I don't work either. I have to schedule my kids things to do when I work, just like people who work outside the home. This whole lazy days of summer thing does not really apply to me and my bored kids can really come after me while I am on the computer all day.
I am so sad today, can't even work. I received an email sm

this morning from my son's father (we share custoday with him having physical custody) that my son will not be coming home for the summer. I can't argue with him or take him to court because he is my son's soul provider right now. I can't go into why, when, where, etc. Long story...

My son is still very young. We've waited all year for him to come home for the summer. He lives 1,000 miles away. He has 2 other siblings here.

He is just being spiteful. I spoke with my son a few nights ago and he was so excited about coming here. He wants to live here full time, but his dad won't let him. Now, his dad is keeping him from even coming down for the summer because he's so afraid that my son won't want to go back home.

So, because of one selfish person, we all have to suffer - me, my son, his siblings, his stepdad.  It's the most difficult situation ever to have to be in.  And there isn't anything I can do about it but pray that he change his mind!

Well, I tried the Resolve today after work, and the carpet is sm
really no better at all. It is fried.  Actually the round spot shows up better now because some of the carpet around it got clean and the round mark still dark and burned.   At least I tried. I will  just have to get a throw rug, something quite pretty I hope to take away the memories of a seemingly very small UFO that landed on my carpet!
I was watching a bird at work today.
I could hear it calling, so I looked up and watched a hawk circling. He had a lot to say. I believe he had an opinion about the squirrel tail hanging from another plant-stocker's trailer. She usually adorns her cart with flowers, but she recently added a squirrel tail another worker gave her. It's not a plain squirrel tail; she adorned with pink ribbons.

(I'm not missing MT at all, LOL).

DH and his little gnome just got home from work...
and I was informed, with a big grin, that paybacks are heck!
Do you fix a schedule and work to it at home?
Do you fix a schedule and work to it at home?
If you are working from home like me, housework always seems to interrupt work. The doorbells, the children, the cups of tea etc etc.
I have tried working to a schedule but never managed to do so.

Kids at home while you work? How do you (sm)

make sure they know you are "at work" even though you are right there?  I have worked at home in the past but had issues with this.  Mine are old enough now to be home while I work (10 & 7), but I would love any ideas of how to make sure they respect my work hours.  Any ideas?

Reminds me of the work at my home
I was on the back and asked person inside to catch the front door as I was busy. They had just started building home next door, had not even poured the foundation and was asking for some water. I said no, the store just up the street and being as husband was in the contracting business, I knew he usually took his help big water containers with them. In a short while at front of house, blinds drawn but noticed movement outside the window and they had the water on outside and stealing my water- I called the police. Really ticked me off.
I understand !!! - From a Work at Home Mom
WOW! 3 sets of twins....

My 2 are years apart, however my 4 years old is a handful let me tell you. Of course she is also the joy of my life. However, trying to work at home with her can be interesting at times. I get a kick out of people that say they want to "Work at home" to be "home with kids". LOL Little do they realize at times they will need to call in help or work when they are in school, or asleep or nap times. :-)

It can be hard to hear a Dr. Dictation with a 3 or 4 year old throwing a fit because they did not get their way or pulling on your arm because they want you to STOP NOW and play.

Of course family time and personal time is very important when working at home and we all need to remember that one. (smile)

I know my biggest dilemma in working at home was getting others to realize I really AM working at home and not just at home. I would get calls from friends, family, etc. wanting me to run to the store, get chores done, go to eat brunch, etc. When I would say that I had to get my work done they would be like - "well you can set your own time right, work anytime". Yes, you can set your own schedule most times, however like any job I had a deadline and that meant working when I could get the quiet time to do so. lol.

Once they saw it was a REAL job then they did start to respect it more. Yet, it did take me brining in my first few checks for them to realize it. Now, I let phone calls go to voice mail unless it is important when working and let others know when I am working so they try to not call during those times.

I think all women and men that start working at home go through something like this at first.

BTW - A friend told me about a great site that is having a Christmas in July Sale if you want to visit it: www.gift-outlet-shopping.com

I found some great deals there. ;-) God Bless.

Here is another site that I found useful in getting a work at home job before I became a Medical Transcriptionist. It is called Work @ Home Affiliation at: www.workathomeaffiliation.com

Hope they become useful to you, and no I do not get anything for recommending them. I am just another work at home mom that likes to recommend sites that I find useful just like my friend did when she sent me the Christmas in July Store link.

Have a great week!

I was driving home from work..sm
got the tail end of the report, mostly just that he'd been taken to the hospital, but the somber tone of voice made me realize pretty quickly that he had died. VERY sad day for me, I've always been a fan.
Went out at 4:00 a.m., home by 6:30 a.m., started work at 8:00 a.m. (nm)

For a work-at-home MT? I'd say a couple of days max.

I've always been one to work when I'm sick. When you're working at home, you can take frequent breaks and lie down if you need to.  I had a staph infection in my ankle, had to have it debrided, was in the hospital for a week and worked on my laptop from the hospital bed.  Came home from the hospital, and didn't miss a beat.  Of course, I was doing strictly QA then, so not a lot of pedal work, just list4ening to blanks and stuff.

With lap procedures, the point is less recovery time.  Plus you consider the sedentary nature of our work, really there's no reason why we can't go right back to work.  It's not like we're doing any heavy lifting.

The only thing that would require we take time off from work would be some sort of hand or arm ailment.

Husband for sale - harder to work with him home than the grandkids. (sm)

He is cleaning our furnace and muttering, muttering, hollering where is this, I bet I have got up and went in there 4 times this morning to just have him mutter never mind I found it.

You gotta love them, but he of all people should know my money comes from my butt being in that chair.

Help! Pushy parents think I work from home and can drive their kids etc

I am constantly being asked to watch people's kids because I work from home.  The latest is a friend of my son attending the same camp in another town.  The friend I will call Scotty.  Scotty has two parents.  His father works from home as a computer consultant.  My friends and I have called Scotty's dad to work on our computers and he never even returns the call or shows up.  Scotty's mom recently asked me if I could drive her son home from them because the dad gets busy and doesn't like to leave clients.  I told her that I too am working from home and have to minimize my time in the car.  Scotty does not live close to us.  I feel like a big meanie but they have pushed me before.  Last year our kids were not even in the same camp but the mom called and asked if I would drive and pick up her son every day because i live in the same town as the camp.  I was like ??? no way.

They used to drop Scotty off at my house on school holidays.  They would drop him off at 7 AM and then once the mom called me at 5 PM and said she wanted to get an oil change and asked me if I could keep scotty until 7:30 PM.  I said NO and then she came to pick him up earlier but stayed at my house uninvited until 9:30 when I just said I HAVE TO GO TAKE A SHOWER.

Anyone have clever ways to handle these situations?

Glad you work at home and not subjecting people to have to pretend they like working with you.

Homeschooling MT
I am a homeschooling mom/medical Transcriptionist and have been for 6 years now.  I would love to correspond with other homeschooling transcriptionists and become part of a "support group".  Other homeschooling MTs please feel free to e-mail me.
Homeschooling
Does anyone out there homeschool at the high school level?  My daughter is going into her Junior year.  Last year she decided the public school is much too social, too riddled with drugs, etc., liberal policies like a club for gays and lesbians, and not challenging academically.  We switched her to a local Catholic school, but found we could not handle the tuition.  They are now holding her final report card back until we can finish paying off the tuition.  She definitely does not want to go back to the public high school, and we are considering homeschooling her for her last two years.  She is an excellent student in the language and history realms, struggles a bit with math but her overall grade average is about 85-90.  Any advice from anyone?  I could use the input.  Thanks!
homeschooling
I homeschooled my daughter all the way through high school. I would say that with only 2 years left you are best off going through a distance learning high school, and there are many of them available. If you want to homeschool, you should check on the state requirements where you live. There are online resources for all states available to let you know what the requirements are for notification, etc. The age of reporting to your school district or state for homeschooling ends at various times in different states, from 16 to 18 years of age. I would say the easiest thing now would be an online high school that is accredited and will issue a diploma after all credits are met. That way you won't have to be pulling together your own transcript and portfolios when it's time to apply for college. Be sure to get all previous records from her high schools thus far, because an online program will take those credits and grades into account to determine what requirements still need to be met. The online program tuitions are all much less than any private school. If she is as diligent as she sounds, she may be able to finish high school a year earlier this way, as she would be allowed to work at her own pace. (There is sometimes an extra fee if you are only enrolled for the final year of high school, because they have to prepare the transcript working mostly from her previous work. Still a bargain, given the cost of 2 years of tuition at a school.)

Good luck!

MTs homeschooling
We used to up until 10 years ago.  It wasn't easy, but the fact that my husband helped, as he is disabled, we managed.  That is all I will say for that.  A lot of prayer went into it.  My daughter refused to go to school at that time.
homeschooling
I don't agree with homeschooling being banned, but I do think there should be some kind of oversight to see that the kids are actually getting an education. I had a neighbor in Nebraska who supposedly home schooled her kids. The 10-year-old didn't know anything about a state versus a city versus a county, how to tell time on a non-digital clock, history, etc. He could read and do basic math. Did I think he was getting a proper education? No way!!!! The mom had all good intentions, but had 4 other younger kids, was totally disorganized and her house was mass chaos. No type of structure, organization or schedule. So who's the one losing out? Nebraska had no program to test these kids to make sure they were getting adequate instruction, that the curriculum was pertinent, that the kid would ever be ready for the real world. I think if parents choose to home school, fine, but somebody has to make sure they're getting the job done so the kids are ready for life out of the home. The parents can't be with them forever!
I am homeschooling my 15 yo son now. SM

Not by choice but because I had no other viable alternative.  He went from a Christian school to public school last year and has been failing miserably ever since.  He went from a classroom of 10 students per teacher to one with 30 students per teacher and he got lost in the shuffle.  His grades started to slip and I was told constantly they didn't have to time to deal with him when they had 30 other students to deal with.  Not to mention, the "society" he has been exposed to in public (a rural public school as a matter of fact) have been a bunch of undisciplined, foul-mouthed, druggies who's parents could care less what they are up to.

My son was expelled from school for defending my nephew after another kid threatened to slit his throat over a girl!  My son was put on long-term suspension for threatening to kick the other kids butt, but the kid who made the threat, was coddled and only got a stern talking too.  His father died of cancer four months ago so apparently he is allowed to behave however he wants with no repercussions.

I started homeschooling him in January and he is on his way to passing the 9th grade whereas before he was going to have to repeat.

My opinion is this, if states want to start regulating homeschooling parents and requiring teaching credentials or certificates, then they should start paying the teachers in their public school system more.  How can they require me to have a teaching certificate when I make more than a school teacher does right now?

Public school is a joke.  Yes, I went to public school.  I grew up in a small town and was successful in school, but not all students learn at the same rate or in the same way.  My son is a visual learner.  If I sit him down in front of the computer with a software package that he can play with, he will learn twice as fast as he did sitting in a classroom of 30 kids staring at the board and listening the teacher drone on and on.

I have a first grader and she attends public school and she does amazingly well.  She loves school, makes good grades (1s, 2s, and 3s can be considered grades!).  Every child is different and approaches learning differently.  I will let her stay in public school for as long as she is successful.

That's my 2 cents on homeschooling.

Homeschooling with disabilities
Hello. I am a homeschooler in the state of Indiana. My children do not have disabilites but I think I can put you in touch with someone who can. I attend the state convention every year and they have a "qualified" lady (I forget what her title is but she is very qualified) who gives workshops on children with disabilities every year. You can go to the website Indiana Association of Home Educators (IAHE)and could possibly contact them for the lady's name. Or you can email me and I will try to get it for you. Also on the IAHE's web site, you can also order CD or MP3 recordings of the workshops given. I think this lady also has some books written. I think she could definitely point you in the right direction.

I'm a firm believer in homeschooling and if you are determined to give your child a good education you can do it. I am definitely against homeschooling if you let your kids sleep in and just dabble in school. The education that I (or you) provide your child with will affect how they can function in life, get a job, etc. My goal with my children is that if they desire to President of the United States the education that I have given them will not hamper them at all. My daughter will graduate next year and with the curriculum I use, she will have an accredited diploma.

If you are experiencing indecision and questioning if you can do this, let me tell you that this is normal. Everyone who has every homeschooled has felt that way in the decision-making process. Once you "step into the water" things will start to fall in place and give you confidence that you can do it. I have homeschooled since kindergarten with both of my children. One will graduate next year and the other is in 9th grade. You can do it. You just need guidance of where to look. I would also investigate to see whether your state has an association or convention like the state of Indiana does. I have been told that most states do. If you can get to that convention, it will make a world of difference in understanding how to go about homeschooling. Contact me by email if you need to.
Have fun--homeschooling is an adventure! nm

Are there any MT/Homeschooling Mamas here?
I'm just wanting to connect with other MTs who homeschool and get tips on HOW you are making this work!!! We're okay....three weeks into the school year of our first year doing this homeschooling/work at home thing. I am just wondering if there are more seasoned veterans who will share their experiences with me.
Homeschooling's great...
Did it for years. When circumstances changed, and I had to put her in publics, she was bored stiff. Now that circumstances would let me, she's too far advanced and I'm too far out of the groove to be able to pick it up or find the assistance I know I'd need (Trig and calculus are not my best subjects). And, she's got a whole new social scene going and doesn't want to start over with a new bunch of kids.

I don't believe I'd be happy about the lockdown y'all had up there, but in the larger cities, the only experience we've had with them have been great. Only for the protection of the kids from possible outside perps. Yeah, I can't go in and get her, and she can't come out, but when there have been shots fired in the neighborhood, I don't want her outside anyway. (Would like it if they would let me in, though. Kinda scary sitting outside at those times, but for protection of the kids, I'm glad they don't.)
Homeschooling Outlawed
California appeals court rules parents without teaching credentials must send children to public or private school...... See Link Below....
Homeschooling is a valid option. Please
feel free to email me personally if you would like any info on homeschooling. I have homeschooled all of my kids after a horrible experience in public schools with my oldest. I don't want to really discuss it here, though, as it is a topic that invites much flaming, and I have no interest in debating it. It works, and we love it. I just checked stats, and according to the US Dept of Education, in 2003 there were 1.1 million kids homeschooled in America. That number is suspected to easily have doubled by now, and new results are due out. My kids are in high school, a fully nationally accredited course, and are very happy kids. Oldest is college bound and also a very happy MT. Sorry for your struggles, but am glad you are challenging the system. Our kids are priceless and deserve more.
Ours go back Sept. 4 but we're homeschooling this year.. first timers (nm)
