DOG ATTACKS

I think that pit bulls are sweet puppies (my son had one once and she was a dumpling little puppy) and I loved her, but when she got older I started to see the potential for disaster.  We lived in a regular neighborhood with lots of children and even though we were with her (the pit bull) all the time and never left her out I started fearing that if she did get out and attacked somone that I could never live with myself.  They are SO strong and have incredible jaw strength.  We found her a home in a neighboring state where she lived on a ranch (she loved it) where there were no children.  She lived there all her days and never harmed anyone, but I know she could have if the circumstances were right.  I have to say that our family has had a near-tragedy involving a dog that we raised from a puppy, cared for him, loved him, and when he was one year old he suddenly, without provocation of any kind, attacked a child (our grandchild) in our yard.  He had been around this same child every day for his whole life and his relationship with the child was very good. This was witnessed by several adults and it is only by the grace of God that my husband was able to save his life.  The dog jumped on him from behind and took him down on the ground and proceeded to bite and rip at his face and head.  He was in surgery for hours and fortunately he has healed and his scars are few.  Amazingly, he still loves dogs.  My husband said it took everything he had to force this dog off the child and that he had never seen anything like it in his life.  This dog was a German shepard, not a pit bull, but still very strong and powerful.  I think the point is that all dogs have the potential to harm humans, but some dogs are capable of killing if the circumstances are just right.   We don't know why ours did this, but we were humbled and frightened by this experience.  We had believed that we "knew" the dog and that he was "safe."  I believe that those powerful dogs are best kept away from busy neighborhoods, homes and buildings where there are children and never, ever will I believe that any baby or small child should be allowed to be in close proximity to one of them.  Any dog at any time could "turn" and become vicious if the circumstances are right.  We still have dogs, but we changed to border collies and Shih-Tzus.  I hope that the child that was attacked is doing well.  Your post brought back memories and I had to reply.  It was therapeutic for me (sometimes I still dream about our dog attacking our grandchild) and a good ad for Shih-Tzus and border collies!

These are the only attacks that you
hear about, not just because this is the only breed that attacks. Pitbulls are just so exploited, and half the time when they say it is a pitbull attack it isn't even a purebred pitbull. I don't care what breed that I hear attacks, that doesn't make me believe that it is the whole breed. It use to be Chow Chows a few years ago, and I have owned two of them and never had a problem. Just sad how people play into whatever they hear on the news.
Panic Attacks
I have had panic attacks since I was 38 and am now going to be 55. It started with a lot of stress in my life.. work, my sister committed suicide. I went like this for about 8 months before anyone would listen to me. I bought self-help books and i KNEW i had a panic disorder. Went to several therapists, psychiatrists. They wouldn't listen to me.. They asked me a million questions. Finally a friend at work suggested her Internal Medicine physician. I walked in to his office, told him I have a panic disorder. He said you don't look nervous. I said I am having a panic attack as we are3 speaking. I would have 4-5 panic attacks a day every day. I told him I had seen therapists, psychiatrists, etc. He said are you going to keep seeing the psychiatrist. I said NO.. because the first one i went to said " So tell me about your crazy family". That was it for me. I was shocked. So the Internal Medicine doctor put me on medication and my whole life changed.. I felt so much better, was able to cope, etc. Medicine is not for everyone but my panic attacks had blown so out of proportion that I finally became depressed because I could not function even though I went to work every day and many days having to leave work. I am still on medicine and feel great. The Internal Medicien doctor helped me more than the others. He listened to me and said " okay we are going to get you the right medicine and he told me that I needed to be patient. I have changed medicines now with the new one of Paxil and I am sooo much better. I am thankful for the day I walked into his office.
Anyone know anything about heart attacks?
A friend recently broke a date with me without letting me know and is saying his father had a heart attack on Saturday and almost died.  Said he had a panic attack and couldn't let me know what was going on. He has never been close to his dad at all and hasn't seen him in several years.  Was happy as a clam the next day after having a panic attack the day before.  Now today, Monday, a day and a half later, says his dad is out of the hospital and back at home and did not have anything done, no angioplasty, no stents, nothing.  Is this possible?
Have a question about heart attacks..

My husband had sharp shooting pains running down his left arm last night for just a couple of minutes.  He asked if he was having a heart attack and I told him that was a symptom and i'd take him to the ER but he said he didn't want to go.  That stopped and then a little while later he said he wasn't feeling well and went to sleep.  Was that a symptom of a heart attack?  If the pain subsided, is it likely to come back again - and with a vengeance or could it have been something else?  He says he's never had that before.  Said he didn't hit his elbow or pinch a nerve or do anything to cause it.  When it happened we were driving down the road when he started vigorously rubbing his arm.

Those pit bull attacks are ashame...sm
I don't know why these dogs attacked. I don't know if these dogs were provoked or what. It is hard for me to imagine a dog just attacking for no reason. I can't imagine my dog ever doing that. I know other people who have pits as pets and they have never had a problem with attacks. I think every good owner should know their dog inside and out and know their little quirks. Now I could see a pit bull attacking an owner who was sometimes mean to them or mistreated them in some way. I could see them getting enough and attacking. A lot of times I think that is really behind attacks and we don't know that. Still a dog never should kill a human. When you own a pit you have to have the utmost respect for the fact they could kill an animal or human if they wanted. They are physically capable but most are not emotionally capable.
My dad had a couple different pits and I have learned my great grandfather had pits for many years. He would only have one at a time. He took his pit hunting hogs and the pit would hold the hog and my great grandfather would put a rag over the dogs nostrils to cause him to have to let go of the hog and he would do whatever it was he then did with the hog. I didn't ask details. But what I am saying here is this was an man who was in close interaction with a pit and was right there when they attacked hogs and he intervened and had to pull them away from the hog by cutting off breathing from the dog so he would let go. He was never attacked or bitten. My dad said that was never an issue. The dogs knew he was the master and they never got out of line. If these were as unstable as some are made out to be and some may be but if they were really that unstable they could have attacked and killed this man. But he never had to worry about this. All of his pits loved and respected him as their owner. Now one deciding factor could be he never mistreated his dog. Never ever. He always treated them good. I think this may be why his dogs never showed him anything but kindness. Again there are some dogs (pits and others) who are unstable. They are just flat out mean and would do anything. But not all dogs are like this. My husband often says when people say aren't you worried CJ could hurt you one day. He says no I KNOW in my heart with everything in me this dog would die before he would hurt one of us. This pit is the most loving affectionate dog I have had the joy to own. Don't ask me how I know.. You would have to know CJ.
I concur. He may be experiencing anxiety attacks, which would
most definitely cause profuse sweating.  As already stated by others, probably the best "medicine" he can receive is TLC provided by you.
I would say that you have every reason to have panic attacks what with all the stress you've SM

been under.  I take Effexor XR for my painic attacks and atenolol to help control my BP and it keeps my heart rate down.  The combination works wonderfully, although I wonder if I've become a little too dependent on it as I sometimes get a little anxious at the thought of being without my Effexor.

I would have periodic episodes of anxiousness going all the way back to my teenage years, but I would always work through it myself.  Then a year ago, in the midst of marital trouble and feeling alone as I lived two states away from friends and family, I started having what I now know to be gallbladder pain while I was at work.  In my mind, I knew I wasn't having a heart attack, the pain was in my right rib cage and radiated around to my right scapula.  But I couldn't seem to convince my body.  My heart started racing, my mind was racing.  I felt dizzy and short of breath.  I went to the employee health nurse who took my BP and it was sky high.  She immediately rushed me to the ER which freaked me out even further.

Long story short, I was having a full blown panic attack and I hope that I never experience anything like that again.  I ended up crying for three weeks straight, was afraid be left alone, was afraid to leave my house, couldn't eat, couldn't sleep, would pace the house with my heart racing, not able to calm myself down.

I saw three different doctors before I found a female doctor who listened to me and told me she knew exactly what I was talking about because her daughter had panick attacks too.  She started me on Effexor and set me up with a therapist who taught me breathing techniques and meditation techniques to help calm myself when I feel anxious.  One technique, as simple as it sounds, is something I practice almost daily which is deep breathing:  in through your nose and out through your mouth and as you exhale allow your body to relax starting from the shoulders down.  It seems silly, but it really works.  I noticed that I clenched my jaw a lot and so that is were I focus my mind when I'm trying to relax.  I focus on the tension in my jaw and start relaxing from there down.

Exercise is another great technique for relieving anxiety and stress.  All the experts say that, and it's true.  Just getting outside and walking can clear the mind.

Well, I've rambled on and on.  Sorry about that.  Let me just add one more thing, if you decide to try medication, my advice would be to be patient.  Sometimes it takes a few different trials of medication before you find the one that fits.  My doctor explained to me that panick attacks are caused by an overactive fight or flight response in the brain and so SSRI antidepressants like Zoloft or Celexa won't do the trick.  You have to have a NRI (norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor) to calm the response.

I'm not saying you need medicine, but I am saying that you may want to get a handle on it now so you don't have to go through what I did.  I can't even explain how horrible it feels to have your mind spinning of control.  I felt like I was genuinely losing my mind.

Well, anyway I feel for you and I wish you well.

Find a lawyer, find out where you would stand - sm
in the event of a divorce/separation, regarding custody, house, etc. Custody was my main concern as well since I lied on numerous occasions about the finances. Where I am I was told that would not factor in to the custody at all. I can prove that I am my kids caregiver 90% of the time, I ferry they around everywhere, help with homework, get ready for school, meet at busstop, etc. I could also point out my husband is an alcoholic, self treats his depression with alcohol instead of getting proper medical treatment, has threatend to kill himself (or me) numerous times (though he always says he was joking and did not mean it.....that is his standard answer to everything, or that he never said that). Now I do love him enough to deal with all that because deep down inside my DH is full of it, luckily for me, he has never followed through on anything he says he is going to do. But I thought my confession would be the straw that broke it all and send him over the edge. He still is angry with me, I am sure he will be for a long time, but is keeping it together pretty well, though he has said the stress was going to kill him, now he know how I felt I guess. I am sorry your husband is such a smuck. I feel like a dog sometimes with the sex demands, have to do it the night before he goes out of town....he will be traveling a lot for work for the next 3-4 months, which I am more than glad about, much calmer here then, though it gets tiring for me but as he is not really helping much right now it really won't be much of a change. As for yours going on 5 day weekends.....have you considered having him followed, sounds like there may be some infidelity afoot, and if so that would strengthen your case in the event of a divorce and custody I would think. Sounds a bit fishy going out until 1 a.m. and his frequent trips. My DH fishes too, but he goes 2 miles from here with one of our male neighbors, they shoot the breeze and he gets to unwind some which I encourage. Very rare weekends with a buddy of his, I am talking once every 2 years, which again is fine with me. Start keeping track of all you do, when he is home, where he supposedly goes, with whom, etc. He cannot show he will be a responsible dad if he is never there or never interacts with his own kids. My DH would probably suggest I take our older daughter and he the younger, spliting them up, he has the same perception, the oldest is mine, the youngest is his. Our younger daughter is much easier to deal with, our older daughter drives him nuts and she is only 10. My younger one (8) knows something has been going one though, and worries we will divorce, which she does not want. She is very perceptive for her years. I hope that if you do go the divorce route, which would actually probably be best in your situation, that it all works out for you and you get your fair share of assets, etc. Make sure before you do anything like that you have all your ducks in a row, so talk to divorce lawyer. I talked to one for 45 minutes, cost me $160 but was worth it to set my mind at ease. Good luck.
Please let us know if you find it...nm
Insert smiley face with crossed fingers here.
How do I find out
where this person has his banking account? I cannot believe a person would just snub their nose at a court action. Had it been the other way around, I am sure I would probably be under the jail as we speak!!
i find that

exercising daily helps and stretching REALLY REALLY  helps.  sometimes my entire back feels as if i have been beat with a baseball bat.  it is hard for anyone to understand unless they have the same condition.  also, not eating sugar helps me, especially my joints.  i take ibuprofen when i cannot stand it any more and then i take 600 to 800 mg every 3 hours for a couple days.  that eases the pain.  i do not take any other pain medication.

good luck to you and may you have more and more pain-free days.

cannot find this
Can you possibly e-mail with the info, I cannot access it as given for some reason. Thanks
What will they do when they find out

I would like to think he could find something
nm
Only way to find out if he is just not that into you.

Just find somebody else, have
the work done, and then send her the pictures of how beautiful it all turned out.

Be sure to tell her you paid a little more with this company, but it was worth it because they were so professional and quick with their service, but she was no "nice" and took such an "interest" in your welfare that you wanted to show her how nicely the project turned out. :oD
When you find out how to
make $$$$ being a beach bum, please let me know!!!!
Can't find that either!
Someone tell me, too. They said it is above where we post.. not seeing it. Sorry. . I'm havin' a bad one!
Hopefully that find the guy but at least..
they found that little girl and got her out of there.
If possible, see if you can find where she's going - sm
outside. Maybe she prefers that material to what's in the litter box. If she prefers dirt, you might try using that in the litter box to see if she'll start using it again. Then if she does, over time you could very gradually add litter to the dirt until it's 100% litter again. You might also try gradually adding kitty litter to the dirt outside where she's going as well, to help speed the transition along. Might not work but then again, who knows? It just might.

The other thing is, it takes a LOT to get the cat-urine smell out of the rug. Cats can smell much more keenly than we can, and it has to be 100% removed. Not easy. Don't use any household cleaners with ammonia in them, that'll just attract her. After thorough scrubbing, you might try something like "Nature's Miracle" to remove the rest of the odor. You could also try putting a small, inexpensive area-rug over that area, just to be SURE she can't smell it. Or even something like that indoor-outdoor fake grass stuff used for wiping your feet on...or anything else a cat might not want to walk on.

If your kitty's an indoor/outdoor kitty, maybe installing a small cat-door might help solve the problem?

One of mine (indoor-only) is the Queen of litterbox avoidance. Never used the rug, but is attracted to linoleum. I started out her rehab by caging her & "crate-training" her like a puppy, and also purchased Dr. Elsey's "Cat-Attract" litter, which is pricey but helped quite a bit.

She finally started using her litter boxes (she has THREE...), but is still inexplicably drawn to linoleum. Luckily there's not much of it in this apt., so I took temptation out of her reach by putting up pet-gates in front of the bathroom (real fun to trip over in the middle of the night, but heck - it works!), and also blocking off the kitchen (where I, as a non-cook, rarely go, anyway.)

The most important thing is to get creative, and to not give up.

This is the only pic I could find
of me in a dress, for comparison. Of course this was 21 years ago, and my hair was different in this picture, but I still think it shows the difference I'm talking about.
If you find any, let me know
I'm 25 and make more money than average college students. I just applied two places for a student loan and was denied. My credit isn't great (some medical bills on there that were past due but have now been paid), but it's not horrible either. My mother's credit is currently worse than mine, so having her cosign would do me no good. I really think companies are making it more difficult to get these loans (as I got one last year when my credit was worse and I made less money). So, I'm stuck trying to work as much as possible to pay for books and tuition myself. No fun. I wish you the best of luck, I know it's tough. I know when I was younger I couldn't get grants because my parents made too much money. Now that they don't include my parents in the calculation, they say I make too much money.

Sorry I don't have great advice! All I can say is research scholarships and apply for them like crazy!!
he may find his own way out, but
just in case you ever run across a poisonous snake and manage to cut his head off, do not reach toward it. There is a "heat sink" reflex and the darn thing can still bite you.
Trying to find someone...
When I first started MTing earlier this year I had corresponded with an MT named Deb out of Florida. We became friends but she had to deal with some personal stuff and in the interim we lost touch. I'm just wondering if anyone knows who I'm talking about? I'm really concerned and would like to know she is okay!

first find out what you
25 years ago is a long time. I would be very clear about what I wanted before I mentioned it. If you want to apologize to your sisters that is one thing, but if you want him to that is another.....
I also find myself
I think boys just have enormous skulls that are still growing and their jaws and necks are turning into men's jaws and necks also. Just make sure he is wearing his retainer! The wisdom teeth will soon be causeing more trouble!
Not that I can find - however,
you can have your comcast e-mail forwarded to yahoo so you can get a notification.
I cannot believe that they could not find them
especailly as your nephew was in jail! There are records! Or through their passports.
You, as you got so much money, could have employed a private investigator, do it now!
Please let me know when you find something
I got a new Kittie and she has been a terror, into everything. I tried all the different things listed, the black pepper, the orange peels, crinkled up aluminum foil, squirting with water, you name it I tried it to keep this kittie off counters, tables, just from taking over my home. I finally bought the mats that give off slight electrical shock and put a couple of those out. She will not step on those after the first time but she has learned how to skirt around those. My beautiful dining room table now is covered with brown paper and the 2 sided tape so if she decides to jump up there then she sticks, so far nothing there though. Let me know when you find the right thing because I need it also.
I'd definitely find a way to ask
I'd say something about how he looked familiar and ask his surname. You're both adults and whatever may have happened between your father and other women is all water that has long gone under the bridge. He might be just as interested in finding out about his father as you are to find out who he is.

I find it best to take a 15-20 minute nap....sm
when I find myself super-sleepy during the day.  It's just enough to perk me back up and works better than caffeine or cold water.
would you like to find out more about melaleuca
Just go to their website at www.melaleuca.com to find out about it. They are really great products and you can make a lot of money.  Just let me know if you are interested
Checked them out, could not find
the higher price which I had to use, only the lower priced gas and then not at the Atlanta station I use which is south out of the city proper.
Best to try to find a different alternative
Maybe your husband could cut a board the size of your door frame, and wrap it in sissle rope, it needs to be at the height of the cat, so he can fully extend his body if that is his habit or what ever habit he has, maybe he only does it low, but you should know, or maybe a carpeted piece of board, I know you can find a solution, and just be so thankful it is not your furniture that cannot be repaired, thanks so much for not considering declawing, I commend you for not taking that route, I hope I could be of help, all for the animals!!!! Sincerely!
First I think you need to find out more ...(see inside)
about exactly what the purpose of this class is. Maybe it's kids they feel might need a little extra help to be ready to advance into 3rd grade. Or maybe it's just the opposite, maybe an advanced class for kids who have already learned most of the 2nd grade stuff, to keep them busy until August or September, when they advance into the third grade. I would contact the school to see exactly what the purpose of this class is, and why you daughter was chosen for it. Then you will know how to handle it. Good luck.
yes. find a doc that will *listen* to you--sm
(good luck in that regard), but sounds like it could be a thyroid condition or maybe fibromyalgia, or like *hayseed* said, some type of autoimmune thing. good luck to you!
Trying to find classmates. Has anyone tried. .. sm
finding classmates through the advertised sites like Find a Classmate or Reunion.com, etc?  I figure these are only successful if someone has registered on the site and doubt many of these classmates have registered.  I don't know married names on lots of these people and don't know what state they now live in so I need one that tracks down from maiden name, school, home town, year of birth, etc. Any suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated!
Cool! How do you find those? sm

I've never seen any links like that...that I was aware of.

My husband always claimed since he had seen my first 2 C-sections as well as watched 1 on TV that he could've delivered our third child at home.  LOL!

Particular sprinkler - where to find.

On Gardening By the Yard, I have seen Paul discuss sprinklers, and he holds one up that looks funny, but I'd like to get one.  The base is about the size of a lunch plate, and up from that come tubes, maybe 20? for water that are 5-6 inches long, and you can bend them in any direction to point individually in any direction you want.  No more water ending up in the street or driveway.  But I can't it, even when I go to the show website.

Anybody know where to find one or what it's called?

If you find something that works, let me know!! sm
I suffer from allergy/sinus problems all year round. Last night my face was throbbing with pressure and pain. Not fun. My doc gave me Wellbid-D for it, which helps some. And I use saline spray occasionally, too, especially when it's windy or dusty. I probably should use it more. To make things even more complicated, Oklahoma (where I live) passed a law that everything containing pseudephedrine has to be kept inside the pharmacy and bought directly from the pharmacist. It has cut down meth labs here in Oklahoma something like 75%, which is terrific, but it makes life difficult for us sinus/allergy sufferers.....
MT4eight, what did you find out
about the puppy? I am hoping for the best but did not see an up to date post from you. Please let us know. There are a lot of animal lovers on this
I just find editing
more mentally taxing than straight typing. I much prefer to type.

Our company just switched to Escripton- so far it seems like the bugs are at least equal to the pluses of the system- does that eventually get better?
lol, not alone. I don't find him appealing either.
Actually been watching him since The Facts of Life pre-millionaire (teeth, lifts, etc) makeover, so maybe that is why. LOL
What I find very helpful is
acidophilus capsules. I take the capsules daily (usually two) at 1 billion live organisms in two pills. It is stated to promote intestinal health and microflora balance which can lead to cold sores. I used to get them every summer when I would get sunburned. Now that I take them daily, I may get one but it goes away fairly quick if I keep on schedule with the capsules.
Find absolutely nothing to look at
She looks in most pictures with crossing her legs as if she is going to trip, anorexic looking like she could stand a good meal and find nothing interesting about her, looks like she needs to push the bangs out of her eyes and holding a poise for the pictures, UGH.
Easiet way: Find a man who

The key is to find something you can stick with....

....for the rest of your life.  I think lasting weight loss is about making lifestyle changes you can easily incorporate into your life and live with for the the long haul, including healthy food choices and exercising.  I am not familiar with Calorie King or Kimkins, so I can't say what kind of programs they are, but fads are not the way to go, IMO.

Good luck to you, though.  Losing weight is a big committment and really not a lot of fun.  I've been on Weight Watchers and have lost 11 pounds so far.  It's taken awhile, but I didn't gain all the weight overnight, either.  Slow and steady.

I would tell her to find someone else to be in charge
Tell her nicely that you really cannot afford to buy another dress and that it might be better to ask someone else to do it.  I think that it is very rude of her to tell you at the last minute like that.  Good luck!
It might be cold where you are and they trying to find
xx
great find!

Congratulations, LadyI   I was just about to send you info on the how to of Bakelite.  One of my passions is antique jewelry...started collecting at the age of 16, many, many years ago.

A while back, my Granny Franny and I were rummaging through a box that was labeled "costume jewelry".   It was Thanksgiving and I'd gone home to Long Island (NY) for a visit.  I found a hindged bracelet full of red stones in a tarnished setting that belonged to my great grandmother Katarina...I wore it to the table...my sisters made fun of me (What're wearing that thing for?---they were all dripping in new diamonds---ha-ha).  Turns out to be 120 mine cut Czechoslovakian garnets (my birthstone) intricately set inversely in a vermiel (gold over silver)....Rather high end costume jewelry for the turn of the century.  Cleaned up rather nicely.  I'll never part with it.

As for value, the sentiment is priceless...When you have the opportunity to hang out with your 95yo grandma going through her mom's stuff and hearing all the stories....what more can I say?
