Why are we okay with animal milk?

Funny how we think it is "normal" to drink the milk of an animal, don't you think?
Honestly, I would much rather find an animal hair in my food than a human hair though. :) I even get grossed out when it is my own hair!!

Maybe I should send milk
I can't believe the milk prices elsewhere. Anyone want NY milk. LOL.
can milk be frozen?
and still be good to drink?
Milk around here is $2.50 a gallon
and it takes 1 gallon to make a nice chunk of mozzarella. It takes 3 gallons to make the harder cheeses like cheddar and Monterey Jack. I want a good "biting" sharp cheese.
I'm sure if I look around here, I could find cheaper milk. I just haven't tried yet. Years ago, I could buy raw milk from a local farmer, but I don't think there are any dairy farmers around here anymore. I know of 1 in another county but he's 20 miles away "over the mountain". It's too dangerous to go there in the winter.
cats and milk
Have had cats for over 40 years. Was told they are lactose intolerant and cannot digest milk properly and not to give them any.
1/2 CUP TO 2/3 CUP MILK IN ICING
SORRY ABOUT THE MISUNDERSTANDING, DIL TOLD ME WRONG & COULDN'T FIND MY RECIPE.. JUST TALKED TO MOM..
We used to use the wax milk cartons for candles sm
when I was a kid. We used to put some ice in the carton and then add the wax. It always made different looking candles. Also, if you have an old electric mixer, you can make the wax foamy while it is still liquid and look like suds or piles of snow.
I have bought this milk for years
and I have not had any problems like that, I have had menstrual problems but that is due to my thyroid. My hubbie and I both have drank it for that long. I hope that is not true but you never know.
Mother's Milk in Food
What nutritional value does this serve for an adult? I don't think he is going to ramp up his business by publicly announcing that he is putting breast milk in his food. Most would probably find that rather weird not to mention gross. What women would allow this man to use their breast milk for such a purpose? Breastfeeding is supposed to be not only a nutritional gain for a child but a bonding experience for mother and child. I don't see many women going for this either.
Well, if these cows are suppling milk
they are hamburger. What does PETA have to say about that?
saw Milk this weekend and everyone was bawling.
everyone in the theater was crying.
I've always given my cats milk.
Never had a problem and have always had cats. Half and half is good too.
I give my cat milk about once a month but
it's "cereal" milk and he'll only have a few swallows and then be done. He drinks with his paws which I think is a hoot!!

So instead of "stealing baby cows milk"
we are supposed to steal baby human's milk??? Hello?! If mommas in financial distress find out they can sell their breast milk rather than give it to their kid, they are going to do that!
And like PETA said "the breast is the best!"
Are you hoping to milk a sexual harrassment lawsuit out of this?

99-cent stores in Houston sell milk....
any fat content, 2 gallons for $3. Might be worth a shot if making cheese, though I don't know what the yield would be when converting liquid to solid. Sure beats the $4+ per pound price of cheese in the grocery store.
My uncle told me each teat on a cow gave different kinds of milk (sm)
One for whole, one for 2%, one for chocolate, and one for buttermilk. That was when I was *real* little; I don't think I bought that one very long.
He also told me that the mountain people had to have "hill cows" which had legs shorter one side than the other so they could stand on the hills without falling over. (If you've ever seen cows standing on a steep hill in the mountains, you'll understand why I believed that for a while...)

Put my animal * up* ???
where would you suggest I put him???? He was an indoor cat but managed to escape. Ate through 3 or 4 screens to get to the * wild *. It was in his blood. He was found in a field and I rescued him.
That's what some cats do. They kill birds. Period.
But you don't need to worry about the birds anymore, because the cat left one day and never returned. He was completely white. He left around Halloween and was never seen again. My daughter worried for months and wrote a story about him to the local newspaper hoping to get him back. Did not happen.
Maybe a bird ate him. Would that make you feel better?
I am very sorry, being an animal lover, but
I really believe the final call on this had nothing to do with money. A horse, unlike cats or dogs, cannot support their weight only on 3 legs and I believe the people who owned this beautiful animal did everything they could to let him live. They knew he would never run again much less be able to live any kind of meaningful life. I heard he was not doing well yesterday and thought this would be the outcome. So sorry, though.
I said never again for taking in animal because
right after I had surgery, a Springer Spaniel came to my door. Loving animals I took him in, put flyers out in the neighborhood trying to find owner, called the pound to see if anyone declared missing, put ad in the paper under found animals, nothing-all the calls I got wanted him, did not lose him. I interviewed and hoped I chose the best- he was high energy and me low. It breaks my heart to see strays, feel so sorry and carry dog food in the back of my vehicle to feed in case I come across 1-I have before.
I am so, so sorry as I am an animal lover also
and can really feel your pain. I have 3 furkids of my own and my heart just goes out to you and your family at this time. These special animals are just part of our own families and I grieve with you.
You could probably win every stuffed animal at the
I bet you could whip them bad boys out instead of using the real gun that shoots the water and win the biggest stuffed animal EVER! LOL
It depends what animal for me. (sm)
When DH sees something dead in the road, he always calls it a possum, no matter what it is. Cause I'm not a big fan of those (sorry possum lovers). To be funny he'll say masked possum (for a raccoon) or ring-tailed possum (also racoon), or gold possum (cat), bob-tailed possum (rabbit). He thinks he's hilarious.
No animal control
There is no animal control in many rural areas.
Don't know if Animal Control will be much help
At least, not if they're like the ones around here. I have called them a couple of times for large dogs roaming loose in the neighborhood and they said they would drive by when they got a chance but if the dogs weren't there at the time there was nothing they could do. Even when I told them, they're here right now and will probably be here a while, I never saw the Animal Control vehicle come by either time.
This is a different situation, of course, but if the dog is receiving food and water I really don't think Animal Control would do much.
I understand that you do not want to bring an animal into your home that would make your cat uncomfortable. If you can keep the dog company in his yard or bring him into your yard (as suggested below) that might be a good alternative.
Maybe you could keep an eye out and try to find out who is feeding the dog and talk to them about some kind of alternative, or at least find out when the owners will be back.
I can't believe people treat their pets this way, just to save a few dollars. For a dog as small as a Sheltie, boarding isn't all that expensive. I did a quick on-line check since it's been a while since we boarded our Pom, and most places listed $12/night for small dogs. A small price to pay, in my opinion.
animal adoption
i agree that we needed to know about this. there are some deceived and warped people that would sacrifice animals in evil ceremonies. a relative of ours had a puppy turn up missing and later it was found with its heart cut out. sick, sick, sick,
I got my dog from Animal Control.
There was an "application" but it was mostly common sense stuff. Good luck!
I am animal lover and get this
Spoke with my daughter last night. She owns her own home and rents out part of it. She tells me her roommate gone a lot- she intends to speak with him about his small dog. She tells me her dogs and this dog are not hitting it off too well but it is freezing here for the past 2 nights and the dog is outside without any shelter. I have written her a note and told her if she gets pis…oh well. I told her she is responsible for things that go on at her home and surely I gave her some compassion in her raising, otherwise I have failed miserably. I asked her how long does it take to bring the dog in, feed and crate it for the night? Surely as a human being you can not allow a poor defenseless animal to suffer because it belongs to your roommate. I am never confrontational- let her run her own business but I really hate this and if it puts a wedge between us then I guess it will have to. I keep my mouth closed but I could not this time. If it were my neighbor and they had small dog left outside, I would probably call the animal abuse people on them and someone there might do the same. I don’t worry so much about that as I do the abuse of a small animal. I asked her to find in her heart the right way to deal with this. I hope she is not as cold-hearted as she was last night.
Have some animal knowledge
To those of you speaking about how pits are so evil, I have two things to say...
1. Any dog is capable of that behavior. We have two dogs and one is a search and rescue dog and both are very loving... but you should never ever underestimate a dog no matter what. they are still animals and they still respond according to their instincts in certain situations. ALL ANIMALS have this capability.
That being said...
2. So if you outlaw pits, who's next? What animal species will be evil incarnate after that?
Basically, it all boils down to the owners, the training and the language the animal gives off in certain situations.
For example, my friend recently told me that someone she knows put their golden to sleep because it bit their child. When they euthanized the dog, a technician made the incidental finding that one of the kids had shoved a pen into the dogs ear. They came to the realization that this is why the dog had bitten, but no one ever even tried to sit down and figure out what had happened... nope, the dog is just put down.. no questions. You know, I would have torn that kid in two myself if that had happened to me, so its the kid and not the dog.
Go to a dog language class, take some training and learn some things before condemning an animal to death for "instincts" that supposedly only that breed has. Its ridiculous and completely ignorant.
OK all you animal lovers...
We have a Basset hound puppy, around 7-8 weeks old; we've had her a week now and she is going absolutely NOWHERE with her potty training. We are trying to crate train her, but she just can't get the idea. We take her out on a regular schedule, feed her on a regular schedule, and make sure she poopies and pees before she comes back in, but it never fails that she will, at least once a day, poopie in her crate...SO DISGUSTING! I'm at my wit's end and ready to give her up, but she's sooo adorable, I really don't want to.
Of note, I am not a huge animal person, can take them or leave them, but she stole my heart and I love her! I seriously am looking for some answers here.
Animal Control
I'm sure the responses vary depending on where you live, what the situation, and who you talk to but for those who have had no help from Animal Control - there might be hope. A farm in my area was obviously mistreating their cows, standing in water for days and weeks with nothing to graze on but plenty of land to move them too. Just a lazy farmer I think, the whole place was a mess. I called Animal Control, the Sherrif's Dept, and the Humane Society every week (atleast once a week) for over a month. Every time I had to leave a message and soon was immediately transferred to a voicemail. I am happy to say I was persistent and eventually the problem was solved. I can only assume they got tired of hearing from me. I haven't seen a problem over there since and its been a couple of years.
i have seen that before. I'm not an animal person

Animal Control
Like the other poster said, if you click "post a reply to this message" they are right under the box that you type your message in. Anyways, I forgot to tell you, you don't have to call Animal Control just if they are mean to the dog. You can also call them about the barking, and I believe they will give them a warning and then I think a fine if they do nothing. Also, I don't know where you are located, but usually you can call the city and they will usually warn them. As much as it sucks, I figure I am just "doing my time" here, where I live, waiting to get away from these idiots I call neighbors! They obviously don't care, have talked to them, so I don't want to make matters worse, because, unfortunately, I have to be here at least 4 more years!
All you CAT/animal lovers have to see this one. SM
it is short but so sweet.

animal lover
I would LOVE to be able to do that, or something similar. However, I barely make enough to pay for my own puds, much less any homeless ones. If I could, I would take in all the neighborhood strays, have them all neutered and whatever else they needed and give them a good home. Maybe one day I'll be able to do that. Until then, I'm so glad there are people like you !!
Animal attraction?
All right, I hope you all don't think I'm a sicko, but I have to admit something. I am attracted to my daughter's boyfriend. He is only 15. He is 6 feet 2 inches and about 180 lbs. No I am not in love with him or anything like that. I just find him very physically appealing. I dreamed about him last night. Maybe it's pheromones.
I can only think of 2 other times in my life that I have had this intense physical attraction to someone, and both times it has hit me completely unexpectedly. (I've not even felt it with my husband really.) It never surrounds any suggestive conversation or even flirting, but I just feel an intense physical attraction. It's not lust, though. It's very different.
Don't worry y'all, I would never do anything stupid or immoral and even if I was the type of person who would, there is no opportunity for that.
Anybody else experience this type of attraction? Am I describing a reaction to pheromones?
I do animal rescuing myself and what I know
is the shelters will not do anything to rehabilitate feral cats, just sending them to their death. If you do not get kittens very, very early and socializing them you have a problem on your hands when they are left out too long.
