Where's the problem?

I think you and your friend are just trying to make trouble.  Is he looking for an excuse to break off relations with his family?   They knew him by his old name and he should just accept that as part of his personal history - in the early chapters, he was known as ABC.  

With all the real problems in life, why on earth would you want to manufacture a problem out of something so trite?  I have 3 different names - all variations on my birth name - that I am called by, depending upon the familiarity of the people involved in my life.  MOst of my family call me by my childhood name, but none of my adult friends know that name.  But I wouldn't be stressed if they did.

Watch the news and see what real problems are like.
