just recently transcribed a dictation about a patient who used her gas stove to heat her house, I suppose because her energy company shut her service off, and as a result, she suffered from carboxyhemoglobinemia or carbon monoxide poisoning with resultant symptoms including tiredness, dizziness, and eventually unconsciousnesss requiring hospitalization. Stay warm all, but please be careful.

I use chuck. I also cook it on top of stove
very slow with golden mushroom soap, a can of beer, potatos, carrots, and onions. Get it boiling and let it simmer for 3 hours or so.
the stove
It is electric, but the burners have a smooth top. Man it is easy to clean and has a light indicating when the burner is still warm so you can be careful.
doing without a stove
I've been w/o a stove for a while because one of my cats kept peeing on it - I 'm a sucker and I chose to keep the cat and get rid of the stove. I don't bake or cook much (I live alone..... go figure, huh?) so I haven't missed it. I have a little convection oven if I need something along those lines, but the microwave, and crockpot do just fine for me.
See if you can find out who does the installations and repairs for places like Sears, etc. A lot of times they will have guys who do repairs on the side and many times they have used items that they will sell pretty inexpensively. My mom retired from Sears and one of her best contacts was one of the repairmen who was retired - he fixed several washers for us and I bought a used one from him that lasted for quite a number of years.
I'd definitely be getting rid of the stove that had the dead mice in it, though. I don't think I could ever eat something else that came from it again.
fireplace/gas stove
I have a gas stove that heats 95% of my house. It is small 1000 sq feet house. I have a fan on it, thermostat on the wall and it works just like a furnace. I live on the water, floating home, and so am sometimes colder than land homes but this works for me. I do have electric baseboard in my bedrooms but keep those at 55 and only higher if we have a week of under 32 weather and might freeze. My gas bill never runs over 100 in the winter and I do not like to be cold and keep it at 65 during the day. Been doing this for over 10 years now. Used to have wood stove but it was too dirty and too far to bring wood down so went to this. Love it.
Does she do this in the vicinity of the stove?
Or does she avoid it?
Either way, it couldn't hurt to check for gas leaks.
What exactly is he doing in the wilderness and does he have a stove?
I backpack a lot, and know how to feed myself in the wilderness. What is DH doing? Is he hunting or camping? Based at a cabin, or staying "on the ground" in a tent? Does he have a portable stove for heat? Is weight of the food an issue as it is in backpacking? Is attracting critters an issue? Food smells can be problematic depending on what activity he's doing.
I don't know the details of this outing, so I may be way off base here. I ask forgiveness in advance, if necessary. But, if your DH is experienced in this sort of thing, he really should know how to do this for himself. If he doesn't have experience, I hope he's not going out there alone.
Always better on the wood stove...
My grandfather had a room in the back of the house that was heated by wood stove (they got central heat when I was a kid, but he closed off the vents and heated that room with a wood stove because he liked it better). Sometimes my grandmother would cook in there just because it tasted better.
wood stove
That really was the good ole' days......
Wood stove
My ex-inlaws still use one.

boy! would I love to have that stove!
If it has been painted all black now and you just want to highlight the raised portion, perhaps just sand papering the raised portion would make it stand out some, or if you can find a stove paint in "silver" color, and just brush it lightly over the raised part, it would make it look nice. Just a thought. good luck! On a side note, upon viewing your post, at the bottom of the page was a link to another site for Soapstone Wood Stoves, called WoodHeatStoves. com. They pictured a teal colored stove with silver accents. Looked really nice, imo.
No natural gas stove -- for heating only
It is a natural gas free standing stove with logs, etc. Not a cooking stove. Thanks for your concern.
My last MIL cooked everything on wood stove
and things were delicious. She never had electric nor gas and probably would have never wanted one. How she did it, I will never know. She cooked everything from collard greens to breads such as biscuits and cornbread. Yum, yum.
How do you get stuff off glass stove tops? SM
I have tried the white creamy stuff from Sears, where I purchased stove. That doesn't get everything off. One site suggested a straight razor, but since I type for a living, I am reluctant to use one (except when shaving legs!).
Any tips? Please? Thank you.
Go to hgtv.com and see if they talk about this at all. If behind the sink & stove,

We put in a wood stove - I haven't used natural gas

Mice carry vermin, get rid of the stove sm
I don't know where you live, but call Goodwill or some derivative of that type, Craig's list as mentioned or a free newspaper which advertises cheap and don't risk getting sick. Make sure you disinfect all that area and plug it all up and reseal probably with a piece of plywood or something before you replace the stove. Perhaps you can arrange for your town to pick the old stove up. I wouldn't use it. Sorry for your troubles at Christmas, it must be hard. Perhaps you can get some frozen meals to microwave or canned food from the local church food bank. I was told by a friend who works at a food bank that the government provides them with a check for a certain amount and they have to spend that whole amount on food, not a penny less, and they sometimes have too much food. Also, see if there is a church near you who provides meals. Some around here provide lunch and dinner and don't ask questions. Research, research, don't be proud, everyone is hurting. Good luck to you! Hope you do okay, everyone gets mice, no one is immune, just disinfect, make sure they don't get back in and replace the stove.
Beware of fixing your own stove, fire hazard! nm

I have a glasstop stove. I burned up a brand new oven glove on it becauuse sm
I have no concept of "surface is HOT." It stunk up the place and ruined a new set of oven gloves, but it was okay. I am very careful of it now, because a HOT SURFACE light means it is HOT.
duh...but it was a brain fart.
Cook 'em however you both will like but cook n serve kraut separately. Great with cooked

I was referring to my dx. sm
Should clarify I was referring to my dx. Mine coexist. But ty for your opinion. Another old MT.
Actually the one I was referring to is, indeed
still on the show and now in the top 10. The one you are referring to got voted off by the judges. He was rude and argued when they gave their opinions of his performance. The only I was referring to is Neal Boyd. He is wonderful. I love Donald Braswell, too! When he sang the Music of the Night from the Phantom of the Opera this week I actually had tears in my eyes. My favorite opera and what a tremendous performance on his part. Thank you for answering my post.
I was not referring to the OP
There was a reply to the OP talking about her mother's neighbors and their "stupid" dogs.
OMG...I'm not referring to the
*Litters* part of the comment, you ninny...I'm referring to the comment in general, the TONE of the comment...not the words themselves...GAH, no more wasting my time on you! Get a clue will ya?!
I'm not referring to the posters...sm
who disagree as being busybodies, but people who make a stink about this issue in general...Never said it was the disagreeing posters who are the busybodies...read carefully....
were you referring to the guy that's old school
nm
You keep referring to her as my daughter.
Is he the stepdad?
If you are referring to me, I had the hysterectomy. sm
I posted here and got a lot of great advice from everyone. I am the one who had the left ovary removed first and then found out I was borderline cancer and the doctors recommended a complete hysterectomy. Well, I did have the hysterectomy and thankfully, all went well. Nothing had spread anywhere and all turned out fine. I am doing very well. Had my procedure laparoscopically and robotix assisted so less invasive. I spent one night in the hospital and actually was back at my computer the next day....on a limited basis of course...but I must say I have been lucky so far. Only hot flashes here and there, but other than that I have felt pretty good. Thanks for asking, if you were referring to me.
Dont know who you are referring to, but I never
s
Perhaps not the post that everyone is referring to....
but I, too, have seen many many unfair man-bashing posts on this board. I have a wonderful husband who means the world to me and, most of the time, I think men are easier to get along with than women. I honestly think that people just enjoy complaining because some of the complaints are really juvenile.
your referring to her not taking accountability and
learning from her actions in the past right? thats good. thank you.
i get real nervous when it comes to confrontation. anxiety.
The smart I was referring to was in regard to
nm
Not referring to a no-support agreement. If there
NM
And is pleural referring to the lungs?
LOL.
The talk radio guy she is referring to
is very adamant about telling people to do their own research before making up their mind about anything. He does his show mostly for entertainment purposes - he is certainly not saying that everything that comes out of his mouth is gospel. He has his show so he can give his opinion - what the heck would he talk about for hours if he did not talk about his opinion?
But that's just my opinion, lol.
I do not think that the OP was referring to this kind of friendship
because the OP put the focus on 'very' close relationship, so it implies something more and slightly different.
She was referring to my DH (old school) and I find it insulting.
nm
she was referring to fake image....not the music itself...why do you feel

sure we cook for the dog
he does still have the food we cook mixed into some dry kibble.
For dinners he will have cooked meat, usually chicken or steak strips, sometimes burger mixed with something else, vegetables, cheese and potatoes (his favorites). For breakfast he gets a whole grain granola type cereal mixed in with a little yogurt or pumpkin.
I know a lot of ppl who are cooking for their pets now. I always thought my dog was just being "spoiled" until I started asking around who else was cooking for their fur babies :)
How to cook
I'm 27, moved out of the house at 19, but still don't know how to cook!
The thought of making a whole meal for just me seems like too much effort, but I'm getting a little bored of the melt-cheese-on-carbs kind of life.
Any thoughts?
....nm up there! Got my used BOS II from there, too. Cook

im not much of a cook, but...
what about baked ziti? It's a change from plain pasta or lasagne/spaghetti. I was just asking my boyfriend last night for it (since he makes it). it's been awhile. We are a young couple so we seem to do the same things every week!! (Tacos, spaghetti, steak) Last night we had pork chops, rice, and broccoli. Tonight we are barbequing hamburgers..
The thing I like to do is twice baked potatoes. It's the only thing I really ever do from scratch, so you of course can add/take away ingredients. I'm very plain so mine are very plain but bake your potatoes... then
I melt a tablespoon of butter, add chopped mushrooms, 1 teaspoon salt, 1 teaspoon pepper.
then when the potatoes are done scoop out the middle, add a little of the melted stuff, add some shredded cheese and sour cream (total will be about 2 cups and 16 oz sour cream)... mix and then add more, mix... scoop back into potatoes and put the rest of the cheese on top, bake for 15 minutes!
hope that made sense, ive never written down my recipe before :)
okay, I was looking for a certain cook
on PBS who was making an apple dessert in a cast iron skillet about a year or so ago, but I guess they are no longer showing him; an older white haired man with a full white mustache. Anyway, I remember him saying don't use McIntosh or eating apples because they have so much moisture in them, they break down in heat. So I stumbled across another site that really goes into the different varieties and uses. Hope this helps; and he likes granny smith, too.

I was in the bathroom with a cook at a SM
restaurant who didn't wash her hands. I was totally disgusted. I loved this restaurant. I went to the manager and told her what happened. She ran back to the kitchen and screamed--loudly--at the cook in their language and then came back to me and apologized and said the cook said she washed her hands when she got back in the kitchen, but that she would make sure none of her employees ever left the bathroom again without washing their hands.
I used to work in fast food as a teenager and even if I just went in the bathroom to look in the mirror, I would wash my hands just in case a customer should come in and suspect I had gone to the bathroom without washing my hands.
So, in short...lol...that is one of my pet peeves as well!

I do not cook but hubby does and
we can buy groceries for very little. How he uses the food is amazing. He can take 1 chicken breast and make a complete meal out of that. He usually fixes brown rice or pasta of some kind and adds this piece of meat cut into small pieces and adds his herbs, spices or the like to it. When we buy at the store usually get, say 3 chicken. He has these halved and being as we don't have children at home 1 side will do us- I like the white meat, he likes the dark, works out well. But if you have family, you could try the above- I never feel deprived, much to the contrary, my meals are delicious and never feel I am missing meat. He made a wonderful meal this past week using all kinds of onions, garlic, squash, zuccini (spelling?)and we had this over the rice- delicious! He uses a rice as the base with additions to that, such as cut up tomatoes, garlic, bay leaves and then the toppings. This is a very good way to extend your budget.
Me too! But I cook, he does all the rest : )

Don’t cook at all but when I want something sweet,
will have a piece of cake, pie, candy, ice cream, unlimited but adding sugar to things not only to bread but some vegetables is a big turn off for me. Some in the south eat grits, could not tell you what they taste like, never had those. Eating out as a child never served grits with breakfast (in Chattanooga)and still to this date do not eat- my children raised in another southern state and they like grits. It is funny how certain regions eat different foods, all in what you grew up with, like and such.
Anything YOU don't have to cook always tastes

How about: If I lived here, I'd be the cook!
No one can be a worst cook than me
My husband asks me to stay out of the kitchen as he says, he and I both want to stay healthy! Ok, I do have a previous thingy I just made up, call it Spanish porkchops. How simple is this - I put a family size container of pork chops plus 2 cans of canned tomatos plus 2 large onions all together and cook over medium until the chops are done and tender- oh, I forgot the salt and pepper- but anyway that is something even I can do and I love it but then again I love tomatoes and we eat them all the time.
AI - David Cook
My husband did not like him at all last night. I don't think he likes him period. He said he's very arrogant. My daughter and I have him pegged as the winner, although I didn't think he was as good as usual last night. On Dial Idol.com they have David Cook in the bottom three along with Carly and Syesha (Sorry if these are spelled wrong). I'm not sure what'll happen tonight.
