When I was about 22 I moved in with a couple who was renting a room (sm)

It was not free rent and not nearly as fancy as the picture in the ad you posted. But I started to notice that there were multiple things around the house with various names on them even though I was the only "roommate" they had at the time. I kept thinking they acted kind of strange but they never really said anything to me...then I started looking at the books on the shelves in the living room...porn type novels, a book on the life story of Linda Lovelace, with lots of details. A couple of weeks after I had moved in they said they were looking for another roommate to move into the room they still had left open. I saw them interviewing a man as I was on my way out. Later when I came back, I saw a balled up sticky note on the floor. I opened it and saw that they had written notes to each other while interviewing the guy. One wrote, "do you think he'll work out?" the other wrote, "maybe. Small guys are usually built big." I started to worry that they were some kind of porn ring and I got the heck out. the next day while they were gone I got my things and left. You just can't be too careful. My sister moved in with a couple once who acted very nice, and yes, they wanted her to have sex with them, so she moved out. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is, unfortunately. If you want to find a place to live rent-free in exchange for cleaning and errands, you could probably find someone who has a parent who need someone to live with them, or a person with a physical disability who could use some help. I would go that route. Best wishes

We usually stay home but this year we are renting a room downtown (sm)
so we can dance and drink a little and not have to drive. We've never done that before so I'm excited!
Try Out Red Box for renting movies.

Have you thought of renting a car?
...to get though this temporary time?  You can rent a car by the month at Enterprise or Budget for around $768 a month total. including taxes and fees. With unlimited mileage (within reason of course).  No maintence, no tires, no repairs.  Just be sure you have  collision/full coverage on your current auto policy.  You are responsible if you are in an accident. You can buy coverage from them, but it's a lot at $16 a day.   You may think renting is foolish because you have nothing to show for it over the months or years.   But hink  about it......how many years have you paid thousands to your power company for electricity?  You have   nothing physical to show for it, but you have had power /electricity for all those years.  Look at transportation as a necessity or utility and not a physical possession.  How many people have a car for  a few years and get car fever and trade it in on a new one and never really pay off the loan.  Ownership means maintenance, depreciation, repairs, tires, etc.  And sometimes you just don't like the car you buy and would love to try another one.  Renting gives you all of those options.  It's just a thought.   Another alternative is to buy one of the rental cars that the rental companies sell at bargain prices, but it's going to a minimum of $8K from what I've seen.  .
renting vs buying
Hi,
After I divorced some years ago, having had my own home at that time, and then having to live in an apartment, I recently opted to purchase my own home. You must weigh the pros and cons of your situation, particularly having children. I hated apt. living!!! You must consider that there will not be much room for your children to play. If they play outside, they will no doubt disturb other renters and consequently have complaints. No matter how good the apartment complex is built, it will always be noisy, no matter what. Being in this business, quiet is imperative and something I never found in an apartment. There is always someone or something to disturb you. You also have no privacy. I lived on a first floor apt. and someone was constantly walking past my bedroom window and patio doors. They cannot help but "peek" in and I hated that as well. I love bright sunshine and fresh air and refused to keep my blinds pulled. I did not feel that I should have to. Also, being a nonsmoker, I found it difficult to deal with those that did, what with their left over smoke drifting into my apt. on a constant day/night basis. I had a "nice" apt. with all the appliances, including washer/dryer, dishwasher, etc, plus a garage. It was nice, but after being aggravated by the 3 in the morning parties going on every weekend and sometimes during the week, and the managers not doing their jobs of shoveling snow, salting walkways, or mowing the grass and picking up other peoples cigarette butts, I opted to buy my own condo. I went with a condo because they do take care of the outside. the inside is your responsibility. yes, you have to replace things if they break or repair them, but to me the cost is minimal compared to the aggravation of living in an apartment. a down payment helps your bottom line, and of course, there are the closing costs, but you also have to consider that you get to deduct your property taxes from you 1040 at the end of the year. Each option has its pros and cons, but with children, i would definately opt for purchase rather than rent. but that's just me. these are just some things to think about. good luck.
renting an apartment
What to you think of the idea that landlords should lower the rent money?
Maybe she could make $ as a "broodmare", renting her

Wow, a couple of people need to take a couple of happy pills!

The room is about 12 x 16 (m)
and then there is a master bath off of it and a walkin closet.  The floor has a light carpet kind of the color of oatmeal but it has different specks of neutral colors in it.  I was thinking maybe darker colored furniture might look good with the light rug.  It also has french doors with windows on either side and an arch window above that with a balcony overlooking a lake.  The room gets a lot of light and the woodwork is white.
When I came out to the room they

were in, the 8-year-old was mouthing off the 11-year-old.  I said "That's enough."  He continued to mouth and my 11-year-old stopped.  He then called his 11-year-old brother "A big fat wussy."  I told him again to stop or he would be on timeout.  My 11-year-old was walking away.  My 8-year-old then started after him and pushed him as hard as he could.  He's about the same size as my 11-year-old.

I don't tolerate the instigating on either end.  But when I said to stop, it should have stopped.  My 8-year-old refused to stop.  He then escalated it to something physical, which is why he ended up on the chair.  I've told my kids time-and-time again to tell me if someone's doing something to aggravate them and they won't stop after they've been told.  They know that I will stop it and the one doing the picking will be punished.

I try very hard to dole out my punishments evenly, but in this case, he should have stopped when I told him to.  I gave him 2 chances to stop and he still didn't.  The pain he inflicted on my 11-year-old was enough punishment.  He left a large red area on his thigh and up the side of his back from being pushed into the wall/table and landing on the floor.

my sin. here we go.. is there enough room?

I lie, I covet, I am jealous, I sometimes swear when I am alone, I have stolen when I was younger, I have anger and lash out, I am moody, I am materialistic, I feel hatred sometimes, I have used God's name in vein, I have had lustful thoughts.... the list goes on and on.  I am a sinner.

But thankfully for me, what separates me from my sin is Jesus and his death.  Since I took his gift of salvation, I am free of my sin.  I can be forgiven, it doesnt all stay on top of me.  I will be sinless when I stand before God.  So everyone sins and telling someone they have sinned is not being judgmental because you are also a sinner.  Being judgmental would be pointing out someone's sin and thinking you were better than they are.  As Christians we are supposed to tell others about God and what he expects, his love, his rules and all of that. You dont just preach a message of love and tolerance or you are only giving half the story.  There is no accountability in that.

When we moved, our dog went through some
anxiety issues and what the vet said was allergies. I think it was more anxiety from the kennel though. He gave us some meds to give him for a week since he was biting his tail. He swings his tail like crazy and would hit it on the walls and break it back open. Least to say, I was cleaning up blood splatter for a long time; no fun!

My mom has a co-worker who also had a dog with the same problem. His vet told him to give him Benadryl. After we ran out of the meds the doctor gave us, we gave our dog Benadryl. He has since adjusted and quit biting his tail. Everything is healed up fine, and we've had no need to give him anymore meds. That is why I think it was more anxiety than allergies.

I would suggest giving her can food for now so she can get some nutrients into her. Make sure she is drinking water because she could get dehydrated easily from vomiting and get her to take some Benadryl. We used the liquid kind with a squirter because it worked faster. Also, see if she will eat some boiled chicken. Try something soft and bland. Good luck! I hope she gets to feeling better soon!
So have you moved away, never to
return to her home, or do you continue to do the "good daughter" thing and go home for visits, or invite her to your home. If so, why?

I ask because I knew somebody whose family and especially mother were absolutely toxic, but she still had her in her life. I believe I would have moved out as soon as feasible and not shared my address or phone number.
I am currently 50 and moved away from
my hometown about 8 years after high school. Just recently joined the Facebook craze and now have reconnected with several.
when we moved into this sm
neighborhood 24 years ago it was a quiet country type neighborhood. Unfortunately, all the "quiet" ones have died, their kids have taken over (their kids are the same age as us) and not kept up the property. Also there are a couple houses two doors down that were always so neat and clean even though they were quite small. The owners sold them to a company who rents them out to illegals who have destroyed the property. Our home and about four more around us are immaculate and we are the ones suffering. Can't afford to move. Houses to expensive in the town I live in.
I used to be school room Mom
There is a game where you put items in a paper bag like combs, hair things, rubberbands, paper clips, ect. The child is blindfolded or put the bag of goodies behind the back. Let the child reach into the bag and try to guess what he pulls out without looking. Decorating cupcakes is also fun. Take cupcakes or cookies to school and let the kids be creative. Around Xmas we did gingerbread type houses out of gram crackers and icing. Let them make valentine cards for a parent/friend out of paper and allow them to glue on glitter that sort of thing. Good luck!
Would there be room in your suitcase for me?
Because we have freezing rain/rain and it's gray, gloomy and depressing here.
You might consider doing the living room
(or whatever the fanciest room is) in same color but with a special border tile worked in to set that room off.

Just a thought.
How big a room are we talking?
What color is the flooring?
You can add a second fan if there is room in your tower

That's what my husband did for both our computers, although I made him unhook one of mine because the two fans were so loud when the computer was on that I had a hard time transcribing.

Hopefully they have quieter fans now....

I am in the family room.
All I have is a desk and a filing cabinet, but I also use my desk to pay bills.  The kids have their own computer on the other side of the room.  I have all of my essentials.  I cannot stand clutter though; so I'm constantly straightening things all day.  I am the same with my computer desktop; I cannot stand a lot of windows open at once, so I only have open what I need.
When we moved into our house..sm

the people who lived here before us had a rabbit that got out of the hutch and they couldn't get it back in, so it lived in our yard.  One nice warm evening I took our house cat out with me while I was outside.  I looked away for a minute and in the blink of an eye, the male rabbit was...um...having nonconsensual relations with my poor, terrified female cat.  I could not believe my eyes. Needless to say, my cat stayed in the house after that.

Are you saying you moved to help a friend....sm
and are miserable because of the uncontrolled kids and revolving doors of people coming/going all day? Then get another place to move out and get some peace & quiet.
We just moved into a new house
and the last owners left some of the nails in the wall where they had things hanging and I guess thinking we might want to hang something there as well.

Well, we had this little sign my mom had give me with 2 turtles on it with some saying on it, about family or something. Every time I turned around, my hubby had that thing hanging somewhere. I would take it down and put it away and the next day it would be hanging somewhere else.

I told him to leave the decorating to me, haha! ;)

We just reached our 7th year being married. I hope that in 21 years we have that same relationship. So far, so good.

Cute story, thanks for sharing. :)
I just moved from Atlanta and believe me when I say
most of the people there could care less about your lineage, would just be another good fight for them. Just spoke with my daughter and she told me a coworker of hers yelled at a person going through neighborhood driving too fast and the person got out and came back after her. Scared the girl to death and my daugher said she would not do that again. I have moved recently to a wonderful quiet place but still return to Atlanta to get my housekeeper. Making the news yesterday was young male, got upset with neighbor, got a gun and sprayed the neighbors home hitting a 2-year-old child inside his home, killing it in the mothers arms. Read about the killings here, for nothing. It the part about backbone for me, my kids would find that funny as when they were growing up they used such words about me like aggressive, outspoken, etc - but people say with age comes more wisdom.
When I first moved to the south, I once saw this guy sm
mowing a lawn (up a steep hill) with short shorts, cowboy hat and cowboy boots. Obviously, the boots were slippery so he kept slipping and trying to dig his heels in the grass. I almost crashed from laughing so hard.
When we moved to Kentucky from NY...sm

14 years ago I was filling out that pile of paperwork for my sons and came across the document about paddling....I was appalled.....How archaic!  My mother has taught in NY for 42 years and I assure you it's not an acceptable practice!  I just wrote "What, are you kidding me?" and got called into the principal's office to explain myself.

Also, when asked about race I checked OTHER and wrote HUMAN....Got called in again to the principal's office.    Cat

Discussion has been moved..thx (nm)

Moved from the burgh...
But still a Steelers fan! I'll be waving my Terrible Towel Sunday night, that's for sure!!!!!
We did not have that issue when we moved here -sm
back in 1998. There were two agents, our agent represented us and only us. Sale went smoothly and quickly. We even rented our old house for a month after we sold it to make our move smoother. We had a few things we wanted done to the new house before we moved into it. It all went quite smoothly with no problems. I have two friends here too that are real estate agents, never discussed that with them, but curious now and will. One helped us buy some land a few years ago, again no problems with representation, 2 agents, she took care of us and we had a huge issue of an oil/mineral rights lease to get invalidated which took some time to get taken care of...our neighbors love us as we got it removed for the whole subdivision, not just our lot. We were not about to buy property with that hanging over our head, whether the others knew or not who knows, but our real estate agent and lawyer made sure we knew what we were getting into.
I moved from CA to WA and I felt very...
welcome. Maybe it is more perception than anything, but I miss my Washington neighbors very much since I left. They were great people.
Just don't expect a luxurious room unless you are sm
willing to pay big bucks.  Most hotel rooms in New York City are small.  The assumption is that people don't spend much time in them, but are out and about.  Plan on at least about $200 per night.  Maybe a little less if you book far in advance.
I have watched enough court room TV
to know that if someone offers to store stuff for another person, they are obligated to make sure that it is properly taken care of. I remember one case where someone had taken the items that they offered to store and then put them in the hallway outside the unit when they got in an argument. Of course they were stolen! That is negligence. They offered to store them for her. They should have parked them with their own quads, as obviously they thought that was safer than near the street, geez.

I agree that it is sad to lose a relationship over $1700, but they were clearly negligent with her property. If her sister was any kind of a woman, she would have admitted it was her fault. I also think that if she would have just admitted it and said sorry that the OP would probably not have been as upset as she was. I have no doubt some of that resentment is due to the fact that they are taking no responsibility whatsoever.

Go to the emergency room. That's what I ended

up doing for the same reason.  I talked to my insurance company and he made me promise that I would go to the ER and tell them that I was in a mentally critical condition.  They did give me anti-depressants although it does take a while for the full affect. At least you'll have something on board in the meantime.  You should also be able to go to your PCP and get the same results.  Whatever you do, go see a doctor.  Either your PCP or go to the ER.  They do understand and will help.

You will continue to be in my prayers.

I would stop sleeping in the same bed/room as him
Tell him that you can't stand the stench because it can't be good. Not taking care of/repairing your teeth is as bad as not taking a shower/practicing basic good hygeine. It's pretty gross.
You may have to shut them in a room while at night.
The claws are meant for protection if they were to happen to escape from your home.  If clawless, they have no defense.  We have trouble too with our cat clawing doorjams.  I have found though if we close the doors at night, she doesn't do it as much.  She is so spoiled though...  I do not even practice what I preach, but if you have a spare bedroom maybe you could put them there while you sleep.  Cats also like cardboard to scratch.  Good luck.  I feel your pain.
Same her with regard to messy room
My daughter can be a super slob at times. I ask her if she has someone living under her bed as there's so much stuff under there. LOL. She has to keep it vacuumed and dusted once a week also. As long as it's semi picked up, I have no problem with it.
take dog home with you; put cat in separate room for now.

Christian chat room
I would like to know if there are any Christian chat rooms for medical transcribers
over the internet, in a chat room
let's just say after we met he grew on me...
Internet Chat Room....
It was actually the screen name that initially caught my attention. It was the name of one of my favorite albums from a guitarist I admire. And the rest, as they say, is history
no room for logic when you are brainwashed.

Do you have a friend who has room in their freezer to help you out? nm
.
I keep mine in the laundry room also
I also have a fat kitty who LOVES to get in there and pretend he's at the beach. I keep a tiny dustpan and broom in there and probably sweep 3 times a day. Sometimes there will be a huge pile of cat litter. Considering he's an indoor kitty and can't seem to find anything else to do, I just let him be and ask him if he had fun!
I need room under the rock, I didn't know either.
no msg
Mine is in the front room
which is supposed to be I guess the "formal living room", but we never used it for that. I'm right next to two big windows so I can look out and see what's happening around me. My daugher's computer is right near mine so I can monitor her and my youngest daughter uses it for her playroom. I'm somewhat cluttered, but not overly so. Lot of pictures (my autograph collection), pens, scanner, steno book, dictionary. I've love to have doors put in, but I doubt that will ever happen.
They moved your thread and not my answer
I think it is Vanessa Carlton. Can't remember the name of the song now.
I am like yu, but my family moved every 3 years.
It was tough as a kid to grow up like that, but due to exentuating circumstances, I have moved my kids a lot, too. It stinks!
We recently moved 200 miles away and
joined a church after being away from the church for several years. There are so many activities for couples and singles, or both, and not just church/religion related. We have dinners, baseball games, hayrides, dances, etc. and have made several friends in the few months we have been here. We get out more now than ever before. I don't know how old you are, and though I hate to admit it, we joined the seniors center also (you only have to be 50). They do all sorts of things - day trips, 1 and 2 week trips, dinners, plays, game nights, music... I just never thought I would be joining an old folks place, but it's fun and a lot of them are in the 50-60 range. Lots of singles and couples.
I moved out two days after I graduated from h.s.
I tried for years to have at least a civil relationship with my mother, but it never happened, so I gave up a long time ago. I see her when it's unavoidable -- weddings, funerals and the sort. She still thinks my brother walks on water, and interestingly, he doesn't come around to help her either.
I just saw it on the main board. Maybe it was moved.

Book-in-bag still hasn't moved.

Except now it has a drillbit sitting on top of it for some reason....
