What was your WORST Thanksgiving? Just lightening up a little sm

I had a few but remember these the best. First was in a snowstorm when my son came down with chicken pox and all we had left (as we were going out) was one pound of hamburg in the freezer, just had to make the best of it. Another was when we unwrapped our turkey that morning and it was bad and all the stores were closed.. This was one we planned to stay home for and have a "just us" memorable Thanksgiving. We ate all the veggies and still enjoyed ourselves, but we have something to laugh at today in our memories.Happy Thanksgiving!

My worst Thanksgiving
I remember the date well. It was Thanksgiving of 1978. I had made the Thanksgiving meal and had invited friends. We were living in Wisconsin away from family. Well, some friends and I were putting the last minute touches on the meal, when I heard my dog going crazy outside. I opened the door and in she came, smelling horribly of SKUNK! Needless to say no one could eat anything, as the house just "STUNK OF SKUNK".
I have had two network cards knocked out by lightening.
The worst one yet (sm)
DS first grade teacher, teaching them the difference between their, there, and they're. Had them copy sentences off the board, something about daffodils, and it said, "they're little petticoats in the breeze" or something like that. I called her on it, and she was nasty to DS the whole rest of the year (not kidding).
That's not the worst
She told me that she knew I had been trying to have an affair with her husband (yuk and ewww! - oh is that anything like shock and aww. Ha Ha), She said she knew what my game was etc, etc., oh yes...and I should go back to my home state where "my kind" belongs. All the meantime with her finger pointed in my face. She is much larger and stronger than I am and I was too shocked beyond words to comprehend what was happening. She also stood leaning against the door so I had no way out. It was a nightmare. It took me 4 months before I stepped foot in her place again or said a word to her. Slowly we became on good speaking terms. Never did trust her after that. Now we get along okay. I eventually forgave her (she was having her problems), but I wish someone had spoken up on my behalf. I did learn at that time that blood is thicker than marriage (unless you are lucky to have a partner that loves you so much they would do anything to keep you from being hurt). Anyway...I have moved on and don't think about it as often but there are still some times when it is in my mind and it does hurt, but gotta move on.
my worst was 25
Absolute worst was my 25th...my stepmom died from an aortic aneurysm. She had just gone up to change clothes for dinner and we found her dead within 5 minutes. I think dinner stayed in the oven for 3 days afterward and I have never eaten stuffed shells again. I haven't liked birthdays since. As my dad said at the hospital, Happy F-ing Birthday, and he was not one to curse.
But, a better one was for me was 29 as I got a belly button piercing in memory of my cousin and met my DH on that birthday. Now I just try to ignore them, though 40 is rapidly approaching and I find myself feeling stuck in a rut...work to pay the bills and for gas, eat, sleep, and do it all again the next day. I wish I could go back to 21 and do it all over again!!
Worst best man ever?

Worst job..(sm)
Sonic rollerskater girl. I just didn't know how to rollerskate. There were a few accidents...LOL.
Thanksgiving
Do not stress about your house. Celebreate your family and friends.
Last year I looked around our table and wondered how many would be back. It looks like everyone might be.
Our mother is quite ill and no improvement expected (except heaven). One sister-in-law has pancreatic cancer. One brother has prostate cancer and the hormones caused an MI. Another brother just had AAA sugery. This list goes on.
Last year I did not expect everyone to be alive in November of 2008 so I just choose to be grateful we will be together again.
I think thanksgiving would be the
perfect time to make it clear you are NOT joining in the free for all giftgiving. Maybe you could make their favorite desserts or breads instead or think of some other inexpensive hand made gifts. My sister makes jelly or tamales for the sibs and my brother buys a bottle of wine each (mine is piling up and getting well aged). This is exactly why I tell my 3 boys to buy for their wives and kids. I myself don't (can't) spend much on the kids, but I figure their parents need to have that fun, I've had my turn with my own. And I don't want anything at all, in fact, I wish when someone came over, they would have to take something when they leave! But, like I told one of mine, you are making memories, it will depend on your attitude and not what you spent that the kid remembers later. One might forget that expensive day at an amusement park, but remember years later a plain simple picnic because of the feeling of family fun and closeness. Good luck with your pregnancy, I am sure you are unusually tired already.
I try to have it up by thanksgiving or right after..nm

I try not to even think about it until after Thanksgiving
It annoys me just a little that everyone forgets about Thanksgiving. It it a true American tradition/holiday that has pretty much just a prelude anymore to the commercial, overrated Christmas.
The people across the street have their glitzy white shimmering tree up. I just don't get it...
Thanksgiving
1939 to 1940
Abraham Lincoln's successors as president followed his example of annually declaring the final Thursday in November to be Thanksgiving. But in 1939, President Franklin D. Roosevelt broke with this tradition. November had five Thursdays that year, and Roosevelt declared the fourth Thursday as Thanksgiving rather than the fifth one. In 1940, in which November had four Thursdays, he declared the third one as Thanksgiving. Although many popular histories state otherwise, he made clear that his plan was to establish it on the next-to-last Thursday in the month instead of the last one. With the country still in the midst of The Great Depression, Roosevelt thought an earlier Thanksgiving would give merchants a longer period to sell goods before Christmas. Increasing profits and spending during this period, Roosevelt hoped, would help bring the country out of the Depression. At the time, advertising goods for Christmas before Thanksgiving was considered inappropriate.
Churches are the worst.
I have more people trying to convert me to whatever they are come by my house uninvited than I do people I know. Now I open the door, tell them I'm happy where I am, I'm happy for them that they are happy where they are and that I'm working and can't be disturbed. Then I shut the door. I actually don't go to church anymore. Pretty disgusted with the whole idea really lol.
In your case, I wouldn't let them in. I think they are being extremely rude to you.
Worst one I have ever endured was...sm
At a psychiatric facility - a dictator actually dictated in the bathroom stall while having a bowel movement... actually grunted and laughed into the dictation equipment (hand-held obviously), and then finished his "big job" and then flushed on tape. I complained to the MedRec Dept head, she approached him about it, and we actually referred to him as "the Royal Flush" after that when we got his dictation...Needless to say, we didn't enjoy his transcription or his surprises. He's a big psychiatric research guy here now. Sheesh. ICK indeed. What are they thinking?!!
WHAT?! Some of the worst criminals...
at least money-wise, as in stealing church money and money from little old ladies, are the big time evangelists on TV!! Do you think these people have "lack of God"?? I personally think it's lack of values/morals in this country (and other countries of course) that cause people to commit crimes, and of course lack of conscious! It has absolutely nothing to do with lack of God! I can't count how many times I've seen news reports where people commit a crime and everyone that knew them said what a great person they are and how shocked they were that they committed the crime - plus, a lot of these people go to church and actually believe in God and it still doesn't phase them to commit the crimes. I don't know, maybe it's because they believe in God that makes them think God will save them or forgive them, so it's okay to commit the crimes?? I'm not an atheist, I just live in the same town at Pat Roberts and where that whole network of his is located and I'm sick of these people living like kings with their multi-milliion dollar homes, helicopters, vacation homes, etc., while there are people in our country that are homeless, without insurance, and starving - I'm sorry but I don't think this is the Christian way to behave and I'm sick of people saying that God is the answer to everything! I really don't think this has anything to do with why these people commit crimes.
What's the worst that can happen; you buy a new one?
I have heard people clean them by running them under the shower and letting them dry in the warm outside air. I'm going to try it, I have a backup cheapie to use if it gets ruined and I have to buy a new one.
We did the worst Thanksgivings - how about the best?
My best one was 15 years ago. My daughter was born the night before Thanksgiving and we were ready to go home on Thanksgiving day.
My parents were having dinner at their house and a ton of extended family over who were all excited to see the new baby. We went over there (yes, before I had even gone home yet) for a couple of hours.
My husband's parents were also having a big family gathering at their place, which was closer to our house. They all wanted to see the new baby too so we went over there for a few hours too.
I was exhausted but it was still fun. Mom and baby were discharged from the hospital at 10 a.m. and didn't make it home until around 10 p.m. that night. The other kids were tired so they let mom and baby go right to bed without a fuss and dad went back to his folks for the holiday family poker match.
No one can be a worst cook than me
My husband asks me to stay out of the kitchen as he says, he and I both want to stay healthy! Ok, I do have a previous thingy I just made up, call it Spanish porkchops. How simple is this - I put a family size container of pork chops plus 2 cans of canned tomatos plus 2 large onions all together and cook over medium until the chops are done and tender- oh, I forgot the salt and pepper- but anyway that is something even I can do and I love it but then again I love tomatoes and we eat them all the time.
what is the worst song ever?
This was on our local news this morning.
My first thought was "Help me Rhonda" by the Beach Boys. Seasons of the sun is right up there for me also.
What's your 'worst song ever'?
worst song?
I have always hated "You light up my life". That was so popular years ago they played it constantly. To this day I want scream when I hear it.
worst thing ever huh? (okay almost)
I'm sorry I don't have suggestions because mine was due to my severe sinusitis as well as the prednisone I was on. You would never think that losing your taste would matter... but having to eat food, just to eat it and taste NOTHING... I tell you what, i dont take the small things for granted anymore :) (of course there were things i was happy not to taste and/or smell... nasal spray was one of them, because i knew my senses were back after using that one day and gagging!!!)
hope you get better soon!!
my worst fear right now is that even
if I have cash in my hand, it will be worthless, and might as well use it as TP.
worst = medquist
they suck
That's not the worst part. nm

this is actually the worst, I quote:
'.......Aren't boomer women great? They know how to solve a man's mid-life crisis without even breaking a sweat!'
This is so ridiculing and portraying the woman as cold and materialistic.
That's why we automatically think the worst
Everyone remembers the exceptions, rather than the vast majority whose ailments turn out to be minor.
In any case, there's no point in worrying until you're sure there's something to worry about.
I did a lot of reading before Thanksgiving
when we made one - it was rather small - just for the 2 of us - and it turned out perfect. Husband likes very rare and we knew we would have a few slices left over which we would then microwave so wanted them rare also. The best advice I can give is to buy a good thermometer and take out before it reaches the temp you want for rare, medium or whatever - as it does continue to cook for a few minutes outside the oven - which surprised this old cook!! It actually rose 5-10 degrees (cannot recall right now) and that can make a huge difference in a small prime rib - I was shocked! :))
The weekend after Thanksgiving
We go out and get the tree and decorate the inside of the house.
what are your Thanksgiving favorites that would
never make it to Martha Stewart's table. My daughter loves my ex-MIL's strawberry pretzel jello! Not haute cuisine!
Thanksgiving Blessings to all
We did have a wonderful Thanksgiving
Day Celebration - yesterday - Turkey & All The Trimmings -
Our son headed back to Hawaii where is he based, leaving for 6-month deployment in Iraq on Sunday. Again, Have a Blessed Thanksgiving Everyone!!
Hey thanks, Cat. Happy Thanksgiving and SM
tell your sister I have done just that! It is a little closer to the TV, but all will work out, I am sure. I am in the market for a neat piece of carpet to put over that area. Have a great day and don't eat too much. I think a cup of Lipton tea would be great with that pie!
Happy Thanksgiving!
It may have been a very hard year for my family but I have a LOT to be thankful for -- including this wonderful group of colleagues!
We always put our tree up the day after Thanksgiving. sm
we all sing-a-long Christmas songs to CDs while we decorate. I can't stand putting them up until after Thanksgiving. I have to close one holiday before i move onto the next, lol.
The other tradition i started with my kiddos is they always get to open ONE present on Christmas eve. that one present is always and will always be PJs. when they were little and i looked back on our Christmas pictures, i realized they were in whichever PJs they went to bed in. so then i decided every year to get them PJs for a gift so everyone looks nice for pictures the next morning.
Exactly what I was thinking....Thanksgiving
xx
Normally week AFTER Thanksgiving.

thanks again and happy Thanksgiving!

This is what thanksgiving is all about...a must read
At turkey time last year, Monique White was unemployed, living in a cramped motel room and pining for the Thanksgivings of her childhood, when dozens of people would gather for a holiday feast.
Today a receptionist at a dentist's office, she has a townhouse in Littleton, Colo. And, thanks to an Internet posting, a list of Thanksgiving dinner guests — strangers all — who will help her eat nine turkeys, four hams, 16 boxes of stuffing and a dozen or so pies.
How did this happen?
White, 36, was feeling a bit lonesome a week ago; her two sons were planning to spend the holiday with their father. And though her longtime partner, Doug White, would be there for her on Thanksgiving, she longed to be surrounded by many more people.
So she posted invitations on Craigslist, the Internet classifieds site. In part, one read:
"Maybe you are someone who is new in town and doesn't have anywhere to go. Maybe you are a small family that wouldn't be able to afford Thanksgiving dinner otherwise. Maybe you are just looking to change up your normal Thanksgiving tradition. ... We have room at our table this year."
She figured four folks, maybe five would answer. But then the replies poured in: People laid off from work. People with no family. People ashamed to bring their children to a Thanksgiving dinner at a soup kitchen.
"I thought: There's was no way I can judge who is worthy of sitting at my table. I have to invite them all," White says.
In all, 32 people are expected for dinner.
When White's boss heard what she was doing, he offered to pay for the food. Then a local hotel offered to provide tables and chairs. Then a professional magician said he would like to perform for the kids.
Certainly a far cry from Thanksgiving 2007, White says. "Last year it was just us two. It was horrible."
Doug White has been busy baking turkeys, putting one in the oven as soon as another comes out.
"People need to stop being so worried about me, me, me, my bills, my life," he says. "You stop worrying, and look what happens?"
I'm so sad right now. I am thinking the worst. it was reported that she sm
had paramedics on top of her giving CPR.
If this is true and she has met her demise, I think it was a combination of a heart ache and drugs to cope with her great loss. As much as people didn't like her, she is a mother who truly loved her son. I have 3 and can't imagine if one of them passed like that.
The worst for me are spitting in public,
it makes me almost lose it and then smacking gum so loud every time your jaw opens and closes, so loud and do not even try to eat at my table and suck, slurp and go on, you gotta go!
Worst Round -- I agree.
I think I am still in shock. What in the world are people thinking??? The last person to make it through to the final 12 is the very one I thought should have been voted off during the first round of elimination. Cannot stand that one -- he should have been gone a long, long time ago. Ugh.
Oh and hospitals are some of the worst places for it! (sm)
Maybe it is rampant everywhere, but let me just say, people who work all night together in a place where there are beds....
The worst part IMO is Rosie is going to be on again-UGH
x
one my folks probably thought was the worst...
but was young enough i didn't stress over it then -- and laugh about it now....the backdrop is a 'granny' who was an alcoholic, already well along when all the family arrived. We mingled and visited with one another, expecting to eat within a couple hours...and my dad asks his mom, 'hows the turkey coming mom?' and she has this blank look on her face -- like she's trying to remember, and he says, let's go take a look...and she says on the way to the kitchen, 'well dear, i guess i better take it out of the freezer!!' Needless to say, there were some frayed nerves -- so we had "Chicken Delight -- which stays open all night" !!
ugh, agree. the worst. fever, too.
they give you antibiotics and you have to drink a ton of water - which, at the beginning, makes it hurt worse as the water flushes, like a hot knife twisting. After a day of medication it will start to lighten up.
Get your butt to the doctor now because it can spread down to the bladder, and that's another kind of pain you don't want on top of the kidney pain.
It's Vote For the Worst at work again.
I went to their web site and those jerks had everybody vote for the country chick. If they don't like AI they are free to use their energy to write their own show and pitch it, but they should leave other people's shows alone.
That should be the worst crisis in government!

One of the worst punishments I remember
when we bickered as kids: We had to kiss each other. How about for every time he shows violence, kicks or hits or punches or slaps, he has to do something for that sibling he has assaulted? Make their bed, fix their lunch, do their chores, be their butler type thing. For the rest of the day.
Fun Poll: Worst/Most Interesting Job You Ever Had
This is a question I ask people often in conversation.
One of the worst jobs I ever had was when I was 16 working as a nurses aid at a nursing home. Back then, in 1980, minimum wage was $2.85, but since I was working thru my high school for work experience credits, they could pay us .50 less an hour, thus $2.35 an hour. When a patient would die, I would have to ready the patient for transport to the morgue. So, I used to wash dead bodies for $2.35 an hour. Only one of the layer's of my odd personality...
One of my favorite jobs was when I was 19 and worked as a cab driver. Now that was fun; like knowing the true pulse of the city, where everything was happening and what was going on. Many stories go along with that, helping a lady of the night trick clients, a fumbled robbery attempt where I ended up with the crook's wallet instead after beating him with a tire iron --- now that was a truly interesting era in my work career...
I think older houses are the worst for it (sm)
It's not all just dead skin..lol. I just moved from a house that was built in 1959 and had the ductwork under the house, and all hardwood floors. Dustiest house I have ever, ever lived in. I could dust under the bed and a week later there would be huge balls of dust that looked like it should have taken them a year to accumulate. My now ex-husband used to say I just didn't clean enough. Well, I can't wait for him to see for himself that it is actually the house that is a dust pit and not the poor cleaning habits of his now ex...lol. Thanks - Just had to get that out!
Glad to hear the worst is over!
Thanks for posting an update. I did wonder what the outcome had been and hoped you were doing better.
I hope the other stone doesn't present a problem if/when it passes. It sounds like it's small enough that it may not be too much trouble. Keep some drugs on hand, just in case!
Glad you're back.
