What has our profession come to? sm
That an experienced MT like "Keeping Homelessness at Bay" has to suffer such financial insecurity? Until perhaps 7-10 years ago--this is a rough guess--a good MT with experience and good skills could always find a pretty well-paying job. Can offshoring and VR only be blamed? Or the economy? Greed of the MTSOs? Or exactly what combination of that and more? I'd like to know about it.
So you think that little of your own profession, that
justified? Right? That it's the MTs' fault? And how much exactly do YOU make per year? Oh, I know. You're going to say 'Sixty thousand', just like the MT schools promise, and just like all the other inflated egos on this board profess to make. No, I would venture a guess that the 60K is what your HUBBY makes, and the pittance you bring in as an MT pays for life's little extras.
Yes, I have seen this profession evolve
to an at-home profession.  It is advertised as a "be home with the kids" job.  Society is not to blame for that; however, the awful children you speak of are a product of bad parenting or a child that has issues.  Some parents tolerate more than what our parents did when we were young.  I was not allowed to talk to my mother or father in a way like you hear these days.  One only hopes to instill values and respect in their children.  I guess this can be a trickle effect.  On the other hand, children are people too.  They will get angry and should be allowed to vent that anger, but in a healthy way, not in the middle of a box store!  Yes, I remember those days when my children wanted this or wanted that.  I am one of those who would leave the cart full of groceries in the middle of the store.  Believe me, it has happened!  There are those who feel that childcare is not the answer and also feel that working at home with children under feet is not the answer.  I think whatever works for you and your situation is what is healthy all around.  I sometimes felt trapped with two children to tote all over.  I am relieved that they are a little older now and have their friends.  I sure do enjoy them though, and they are growing so fast.  I know I'll be in a situation where I am looking behind me to see where they are, and they will be long gone living their own lives, at least that is what I hope for them.  We are blessed with these children, but given no instruction manual.  We learn from trial and error as with a lot of things in life, I guess.  You know the old saying if I knew then what I know now.....
I get this from the medical profession, too -
My family doc respects my knowledge, but heaven forbid I say something medical if I have to take my daughter to the ER! They look at me like I have two heads, then continue to talk in monosyllables.
In this economy and this profession
this is really good to know.
normal for this profession sm
Typing in dark, just got up,but we have to have quiet and solitude to pay attention to what we're doing. I rented an office because my husband talks so much, never near my work but used to sit on the stairs and talk to me and kept interrupting. Even with an office I would get upset if someone walked in while I was working. It's part of the problem and I do like people but find them very irritating when I try to concentrate. Now I feel I am a "victim" of having no one to really "talk" to when I need to "talk" because I was so short with everyone. It's hard, I'm lonely too, that's why I come in here. SAD, people don't understand. It's a lonely profession. But then again, I hate "small talk" after all the true in-depth stories I heard from my work, all the rest seems boring and not important. So you have "company" after all!
Just like the MT profession, the sheriff just FADED AWAY instead of...
standing up to the evil and going down fighting, and based on how everybody fights on this board with each other, well a house divided will fall.
Mine charges $12 (shocking!!) only other profession I know of
whose wages have gone down like MTs - and you do not tip if it is the owner of the shop is my understanding
Actually, I have 3, and the oldest is

16 years old.  It is a constant battle to help him realize that the world does not revolve around him, but I will continue to fight the battle, because he is worth it.  It is MY job to teach him to not be selfish.  Some kids are by nature more selfish, but basically ALL kids are selfish, and you have to steer them down a different road.  You know what?  I tell my son no a lot, and I don't fork over money right and left.  He's temporarily miffed, but it has never caused him to mistreat me.  He is constantly stopping me to hug me and tell me he loves me.  Just out of the blue.  I am important in his life.

I'm sorry if I sound harsh, and I wish you could have the same kind of love between you and your kids.  Bottom line -- it doesn't sound like you have bonded with them and that YOU love THEM no matter what.  They would sense that, and reciprocate.  I understand being sick of bad behavior, but I don't think I could ever say, as a mom, now it's time for "me, me, me."  It's never too late to repair these relationships.  I think you should rethink things.

I was serious in my asking if they had a dad in their lives.  Dads generally draw the line whereas moms are pushovers.  That's not always the case, but two heads are better than one.  It is so important to have someone back you up, or take over when you are just plain tired.

Yes, he's my oldest. So this is all new to me. Unfortunately, he doesn't have a very good

relationship with his father.  There's a lack of respect there because his father never has held a job or took care of us.  So, it's almost as if my son views is father as being on the same level as him - one the kids that mom has to take care of.  So my son has always felt he could talk however he wanted to his dad and his father on the flip side has always acted like big kid with my son.  I don't think having my son talk to his father would help very much.

I've met the kids my son has become friends with and I've met their parents.  The parents all seem to have the same values as I do and the kids are pretty typical boys - no drugs or alcohol.  They play football in our backyard after school.

I really do hope it's just a phase, but even if it is just a phase, I'm not sure I'll survive!

My oldest daughter (31 now) came home from...

kindergarten around Christmas time and said, "I'm gonna sing my favorite song we learned today", and proceeded to sing Fleas on the Dog (of course it was Feliz Navidad). Still makes me chuckle today.

My oldest daughter knew when she was 10
Kids talk at school and on the bus, and I'm sure that's how she found out about Santa and the Easter Bunny, etc. Of course now she's 14 and tells me how could someone believe in a huge bunny who comes to your house and leaves candy. LOL. I also have a 5 year old and the older one knows under no circumstances is she to tell her sister anything. She can find out on her own. I think you should just let him know that he shouldn't tell the younger ones just like you were planning.
My oldest daughter had nothing but "boy"
friends throughout high school. Really, guys are a lot nicer than boys most of hte time. She has a couple of good girl friends, but I actually liked the guys hanging around the house. Now that she is in college, all she brings home are her guy friends and they all hang out with her and her boyfriend.

I really would not worry if her friends are guys, at least she has friends she feels comfortable with having hang out at your house.
My oldest son gave me the idea about s/m

the generator.  We rent a log splitter every fall and never even thought about it!  How smart they can be.

We live on the county line, so we are always the last ones to get shoveled out as far as the roads go, but we seem to lose our electricity quite a bit, 3-4 times a year minimum.

Oh, I am right behind you! My oldest, my baby girl.......sm
just turned 20, she still lives at home and commutes to save money, but she is in college for teaching, I just cannot believe she is out of diapers, let alone out of high school and out of her teen years!! My son, Adam, is graduating this year, turning 18, and while he also will be going to a local college and commuting, and we are very close, along with his girlfriend, he is on his way, too!

That leaves Alex, who is 11, and although he is still a boy, I am already starting to project, because often he stays over a friend's for a sleepover, my son is out with his girl, and my daughter is out with friends or working, back to hubby and me........don't know where time went, but I have such a hard time getting out those baby pictures, seems like yesterday and I remember and want the time back. Doesn't work that way! And yes, all four of us (myself and my siblings) have been extremely close lifelong with my parents, just keep the love and communication open, have lots of get-togethers of you can. I am trying to look forward to being a grandma (although NOT TOO SOON!!). Much love to ya!
Yes, especially me (oldest) and my middle sister. (sm)
Main difference is she's taller. One time she was visiting me and we went out for lunch. A lady came up to us and asked, 'Are you identical twins or fraternal twins?' She sure was surprised to learn that we weren't twins at all, just regular, run-of-the-mill sisters!
I am not quite there yet as my oldest is only 11 but our school has a rule that you have to be passi
x
Of course! Stealing? That's the oldest trick in the book. lol
I guess she figured what does she have to lose if she thought she was dying. :(
My oldest furgirl is dying and I am crying
I have just called the veterinarian's office to see if there was anything they could give me to ease her pain, should she be in any which I do not think is the case. I have had her since she was born at my home so it is almost unbearable today. The vet had told me about a week or so ago that her organs were probably failing due to some lab tests she had. I gave her some water with a syringe and even tried feeding her some this morning as I do not want her to be hungry nor thirsty. She is laying on a blanket and I have a cover on her. Besides my having her put down which is really hurting my heart- she has been with me all these years- is there anything I can give her so she is not having a painful death and I just don’t know about it. Thanks everyone.
I love my boys! One time when my oldest
(fixing to turn 18 and will adamently deny this) was 4 years old, we were up at my parent's house. He was playing wheel of fortune on the computer. He came in and told me he was having trouble figuring out the puzzle. I told him he needed to buy a vowel. After a second, I asked him did he know what a vowel was. He grinned big and said "yes, it's this" and he proceeded to 'bow'!
They do multiply don't they?! Brought back memories when my oldest brother
bought 2 white mice at the pet shop and the guy told him they were both males...about 2-3 weeks later we had a full liter of white mice.  Mom made him take the whole cage with mice back to the pet shop (I wonder why? LOL).
my youngest daughter puts her in the lunchbox just to keep her drink cold, but my oldest never does
sick yet. If their school is like my daughters' schools they eat about 3 hours after school starts so I would not think there would be a problem.
Not in my world
Unfortunately, my divorce was nasty, ugly, hateful and I wouldn't want to ever go through that again.
Cut off from the world
I know what you mean.  I have been working from home for 5 years now and I do miss being around people but I don't miss office politics one bit either.
Third world?
nm
Where in the world have you been?
They have excellent swimming (not the pools) but man-made beaches there and you can get hopper pass and go to those beaches just like you can visit Tomorrow Land, MGM or whatever. You apparently don’t know about the other places available to customers.
It probably comes from anywhere in the world, but - sm
I hear that a LOT of it comes from S. Africa, Philippines, Singapore, etc. Could be coming from next-door, too. You just never know. It's so frustrating because even though I have a 'Report Spam' feature on my e-mail, and I report & then delete these several times a day, they keep reappearing. All they have to do is slightly change the spelling or the word-arrangement, and it's back again. The latest ones I'm getting are about 'Replica' watches and 'Rolex' watches. The only watch I have, I never wear, and I didn't buy it online or with a credit card, I paid $10 cash for it at Wal-Mart.

Anyway, I think they're looking for more than just 'sales' - I never open those up, but fear that even moving them from my bulk mail folder to my incoming mail folder to report them as Spam is somehow registering my e-mail addressing with someone, somewhere. Haha -- Maybe we should all flood those addresses with Spam e-mails offering to sell them 'beach-front' property in Kansas!
;D
Why in the world would you ever think
others might think these protesters were Christians? I think most humans have the intelligence to tell the difference between 1 or the other. I am sure most all know her name, Eve as this was a story not just in North Carolina but nationwise and probably global as well.
it's a mad mad world
Well going from a very very nice pay check to $0 is very very hard. In all fairness to him the contract he worked on ended. We were living in an area at that time that was in a depression. So we moved out of the area (after one to two years of being unemployed), I got work he didn't, we moved again I got work again and he didn't, two more times we moved to areas where I could get work and he couldn't. He wants to get work but everytime he applies for something they tell him he's over qualified. We live in a very small town (under 10K people) and what he has his experience in we would have to move to the nearest town which is about a 4 hour drive to get the type of work he's done in the past. Which means that whatever he would make would be paid out in higher rent, gas, etc, etc. (not to include the cost of 3 large (24-foot) moving trucks to move all our stuff). So, we've just got to put our "noggins" together to try and figure something out. But I am getting tired of talking every 3 or 4 hours about it and the changing of his mind with I'm going to do this, then that, then this, then back to that again, then something new, then that again. What's that quote from the movie - "I'm mad as he!! and I'm not going to take it anymore". HA HA
What's up with the world anyway?
I think it is sad and disgusting that creatures eat each other ... what kind of a plan is that?!!?
welcome to my world

I am a news junkie.  I hope I don't tread on the political aura because that is not my intention.  I've been watching CNN regarding how one can cut back to survive in this ecomony.  Every tip is MY LIFE for the last 10, 20 or more years!!  So what does one do who HAS been living a frugal lifestyle and finds themselves STILL having to cut back?

As a disclaimer, I am okay, as I have been living somewhat frugally, and have (for now anyhow) a good job.  I just worry about those who have lived as I have and then find themselves in a fix, with nothing else to shut off...

Mad World, etc

For some reason Adam's performance was not aired when I watched AI Tuesday night, unless I blinked and missed it somehow! I can't say I have liked every one of his performances, but he is ALWAYS memorable. He is the son of one of my high school classmates and I do hope he wins.  Does anyone know of a link I can go to watch it?

As far as the new judge, Kara?, I much prefer her over Paula Abdul any day.  At least she is coherent when she gives advice, etc to the contestants.

What in the world?

Sorry CrankyBeach,

This has nothing to do with what was posted, but what in the world is that in your picture????

Why in the world would you do something like that
I cannot understand people who feel they need to do something like this. That child and her mother's personal business is no business of anyone else and certainly not the governments. If the mother can find an alternative health care (which she is in the process of doing), she is more than capable of taking care of her own child and trying to get the help her child needs so he can live and be cured. Not taking him the route that he will eventually die from. Why would anyone stick their nose where it doesn't belong and aid in the quick and horrible and painful death of the child.

I'm not mad at you, I'm trying to understand why anyone would do something this cruel to somebody else.

The mother is trying to save her child's life and the govt is trying to force him into taking a drug that will certainly meet with the end result of death, and months and months of horrible horrible pain and side effects. Until you live with someone and watch them go through the horrible death that chemo brings it's hard to fathom what it does to someone. It not only destroys their immune system and they throw up, cannot eat, go through depression, and basically beg for death. There is nothing worse than when I was hugging my mom while she was sitting on the toilet constipated for days, crying and screaming in pain and wishing to die. I have never been through a more depressing situation and her telling me how humiliating for her and I should go home and not see her this way. Her hair fell out and she said she felt ugly and worthless (she has always been a beautiful woman no matter what). It's heart-wrenching to sit here and relieve those memories. Then to hear that someone would turn someone in for them to undergo the same fate as what my mom and 3 other relatives of mine went through. I just don't understand it.
1st of all I said this *country* - not world...sm
Secondly, it's not just the Christians, I beg to differ.......there's plenty of other religious groups in the USA - that this effects.....and who have been oppressed for a couple of centuries as I see it.
What is this world coming to?

The clue for your caller would have been when you said "hello"?  Don't ya' think?

Amen to that! It sure is a different world now. nm
s
So because this world is far from perfect--sm
we are just supposed to toss up our hands and say *oh well, that is the way it is, so just let it be*? I don't think so. Evil is as evil does. We are supposed to fight evil, not hold hands with it. BE the change you want to see in this world. Only we can change it and not by sitting on our *** saying "Oh well, that's the way of the world." jeez, how blind!
first the bus, next the world! hahahahaha
x
Well, hello, this is the real world
and a company is in business to make money. They care less about a sick child at home, that is your responsibility, not theirs and they are completely right in telling you to get someone to watch her or else your job is on the line. That is called business but at the same time you are complaining about bleeding so much, you are wanting to go on a field trip? I do not think you have your priorities in line - that is if you want to work or maybe just quit then you could go to see about your almost passing out, feeling weak, dizzy, go on the field trip with your child - oh I almost forgot, without the income you might not be able to do the things you want. Up to you really..
welcome to my world...we have so much in common.

we have 14 kids in 6 houses on my street.  all under age 10.  the kids are all staying home all summer.  i did put my 2 in summer school but its only 4 hours in the morning.  we have been going through this for way too long. our rules are that my kids have to stay in my yard,,,they can have friends over, but they are not to get out of my sight.  sick of having them bullied, and then myself bullied when their parents find out i have yelled at their kids....lol, i had a post a few days ago about my trashy neighbors and they bad kids...the topic went on for a while.... long story short...we are selling our house and getting out of here.

I'm in a world of trouble, then
because all my grandparents with the exception of my maternal grandmother deceased before I was born. I am now in my 60s and have actually made it this far without knowing any of their history. What is a lady to do?
My BF in the world is getting married... again sm

I love her to death, but she is going into her 3rd marriage.   She has only been dating the guy 7 weeks.   She has known him for about 7 months.  She has 2 absolutely wonderful kids.  They are my kids best friends as well.  I have been married for "almost" 20 years.  I don't quite get the "changing husband thing."  I don't know what it would it be like to NOT be married to my husband....admittedly and I have no intention of finding out.

I guess what I am trying to say is this..... I love her to death.  I am afraid she is jumping into the river instead of over it.  She has 2 kids, he has 4.  He was married for 18 years and just got a divorce.  She was married for 4 years and just got a divorce. (Both of their divorces in the last 8 months).  I am worried she is jumping into something.  I know she can handle it fine.  BUT, my 2 "adopted" kiddos do not need another failure. They need stability.  They come stay with me as much as possible but still, they worry.  They talk to me.  Their mom is fine with that.  But I guess..... i am just worried.  sorry this is long

Small world -
I actually grew up in the village of Catskill. I lived in Albany for a while, but am now near Rochester. Very cool.
That IS funny!!! Welcome to our world!
Just curious...is this doc a fast dictator as well?
Travel the world
Although, I would have to win the lottery for that! I'd probably take out every loan I could and run up the credit cards. I've been to France and NYC (both of which I absolutely loved!) I would love to see Italy and Greece. If I absolutely could not get $ for that, I would volunteer at animal shelters/rescues and volunteer with kids, maybe with Big Brothers, Big Sisters. I've had some scares with health myself and I have thought about it, unfortunately. I would just try to be as happy as possible! I wish you and your SIL the best.
Fantasy World
Sadgirl - take a look at your own name for clue #1.

Your problem is not being able to continue this "relationship", but rather that you have focused, fixated and obsessed on the unattainable. It's "safe" because in your head you know you can never be with him but in your heart you can romanticize about something that is not even reality. You need to start figuring out why you are doing that.

You say he treats you wonderfully. Yeah, in YOUR head he does. Here's a married man carrying on conversations with you that he now wants to keep out of his wife's view with your help. He knows it's wrong, why don't you? He's prominent in the community? What would you do if your written e-mail exchanges were ever to be made public? E-mails are forever and you have already jeopardized your reputation as well as your child's reputation. His wife knows about your "innocent" e-mail exchanges - what's to stop her from printing them out? Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned and you have a big bull's eye on your butt.

He's saying you will be OK after he retires, yet he keeps stringing you along with no regard for your emotional well-being. He keeps you at a safe distance. You don't see something so very wrong with that? You need to step back and look at this from the outside. He is exhibiting no moral or ethical character by communicating with you knowing how you feel about him. He's getting a big ego trip off you, the younger woman, and the attention you give him. Ever wonder if there are others he "chats" with that are like you? You think this is the man of your dreams? When you make the mental list out of qualities and characteristics you want in a guy, this Bozo fits the bill?

Is this something you will proudly be telling your child about some day?

You need to ask yourself some pretty hard questions regarding why you think this is OK. Is sounds like your self-esteem has hit rock bottom and you need to find out why.

I truly hope you can find the strength within you to stop all communication with this man. What a slippery slope you are on. You know it is the right thing to do to stop all this, or you wouldn't have written your post here in a public forum. Absolutely nothing good can or will come out of this "relationship" with Mr. Ego/Married Man.

Really small world.
I have friends who live in Cabot, one of whom I believe is the director of nurses at Children's.
NYC. Best shopping in the world.

In a perfect world

What is your idea of a perfect world - it can be anything from the craziest of crazy ideas to very simple ones.  Here's my ideas:

1.  No more pharmaceutical commercials.  Let our doctors tell us what meds we need, not us tell our doctors we think they should give us.

2.  Pharmaceutical companies would not "rule the doctors" (okay sort of part #1, but a little different).

3.  No more "stup!d" commercials that demoralize our intelligence like the pepto bismol commercial, free credit report, and about 95% of the other commercials.

4.  Every child would be considered a gift from the gods (whatever one you believe in), and their lives would be treated as precious as they are and there would be no killing or abuse of young children.  If parents cannot handle having children they would bring them to the nearest safe place and say I can't handle this anymore, please let someone else take care of them (instead of killing and burying them out where no one can find them).  Then couples who can't have children would have a chance.

5.  The government would tell us the truth about why they are spraying chemicals (chem trails) into the atmosphere and poisoning all of us.

6.  The goverment would tell us what's up with the UFOs instead of keeping it a secret.  I think we are all adults and can handle the truth.

7.  Hollywood actors & actresses would quit announcing to everyone all the lavish money they are spending on themsleves (mansions, $12,000 coffee table, etc) and instead we would hear that Brad & Angelina spent that $12,000 to help the hungry and needy.

8.  They would turn all the abandoned buildings into housing for the homeless.

9.  People wouldn't be fighting against each other "only" because of what political party they belonged to, and politicians would keep the promises they make while they are campaigning (haven't met one yet that did).

10.  Lawyers would not be trying to re-write the constitution.

11.  All people would be considerate of their neighbors and not mow their lawns after 8 pm in the evenings or before 8 am in the mornings.

12.  Everyone could pick whatever time you wanted to start working and quit working.

13.  We would have an alternative reliable transportation method instead of plane, train, or automobile similar to the transporter you see in Star Trek.  So if you live in Washington state, you could still go to Maine for dinner and be back by 9pm.

14.  There would be no more gangs.  The people who want to be part of a gang would now be part of an Infantry unit.  They would learn out to use weapons but they would use them responsibly.

15.  There would be no more bullies in the school system.

16.  There would be no animal abuse.  Every person would take care of animals and love them, and if caught being cruel to an animal you get branded or something so that everyone in public would know that person is cruel to animals and they would be ashamed of what they've done.

17.  No more reality shows.  Enough with American Idol and Survivor.

18.  Scam artists would not try to swindle money out of people (especially the elderly).

19.  Everyone would grow food in their yards and neighbors share with others.

Not part of your world and never will be
Tried to offer a legitimate suggestion and got negative feedback which is so typical of you types. BTW this thread should be on the main board.
