With a six figure income, if the money was actually going to the children, $1000 was not enough. However, if it was going to their mom and not them then I wouldn't have wanted to send anything at all if I was him. But to support your children does take more than that. Sit down for yourself and add up how much it costs to pay rent/mortgage, electricity, food, medical expenses, clothing, etc. You will see. It was very good of him to pay until they were 21 though as most do not pay after children are 18 and so I agree that if that is the case he does not owe them anything for college. They could have gone from age 18 to 21 and used that money to put themselves through, absolutely
