bad let him cash out one of his, but you will have to pay penalties for early withdrawal as well as taxes on the money. Go get a car loan at one of those dinky used car lots, we have something called DriveTime here that says "everyone" gets approved. Plenty of people trying to sell cars and make a sale, just get a loan and keep your money in the bank. My husband insisted we get rid of my Suburban this April (of course then gas plummetted) though it still ran good at 230K miles, had some cosmetic issues inside and a few dinky problems but ran great (had no engine issues). His parents insisted on loaning us the money though we were just going to get a car loan. So we borrowed $14K, got a 2004 Trailblazer at Carmax with 42K miles, and had been paying them back at $650 or so a month when they "forgave" us the balance of the loan ($10K) as a Christmas gift (they gave my BIL $10K a few years ago for his house downpayment, guess they wanted to even things out). Granted not everyone's parents or in-laws can act as a bank, but if your's can you can always ask for a loan (and put it in writing if necessary--we did not as they knew it would not be an issue). My in-laws are very tight with their money so it was a complete surprise for us, and obviously greatly appreciated. We have had a lot of bad karma lately so I think they were just trying to be helpful, that and even things out between the brothers.

We used cash only and spent a little more this year as we bought little gifts for everyone. Dh has a PT job making deliveries and he got tips at Christmas time that more than covered Christmas.
You should be able to cash the check at...
their bank as long as you have ID. They don't have to tell you if there is money there; if they can't cash it, you'll know. If not I'd go in tomorrow or Friday. Good luck

We paid cash, spent about
$1000 total for grandkids and gifts for each other. We are debt free except our house. There is nothing like being able to sleep well at night and not be afraid to answer the phone should it ring. We have lived this way for many years, have learned to save money, pay cash for what we want. This has been to our benefit as we haven't had our CC companies drop our limits or increase our percentage rates at all; in fact, our limits keep rising even though we only use them once or twice a year. The thought of having to pay for something many months and years later is baffling to me.

she may be nuts enough to take you to small claims court over the $300 saying you were quoted X dollars and did not pay her husband. Though he might have to be the one to actually bring the lawsuit since he did the work, though she might talk him into it. I also hope you had a written contract as well in place, always pays to cover your butt in these situations. She is obviously desperate for cash (is she not eligible for unemployement?) or having contractor remorse for hiring out her hubby and thinks he short-changed himself and that you took advantage. ----- When I first started reading this I thought it would be, oh I hired a friend's husband, he did a lousy job, we don't want to pay him....that sort of thing. Glad it was not that, seems like you we happy with the work, paid for it as agreed and that was it, then the wife/friend got involved. My DH is not one to haggle or overcharge for anything, gives away his help on big things, and it drives me nuts, so I normally handle that sort of stuff though it is rare for us. We do a lot of bartering on my road, you scratch my back, I will scratch yours sort of thing, from helping start cars to fixing TVs (my DH has saved our one neighbor mucho $ fixing their TV a couple of times). If we cannot repay the favor we either pay in cash or beer, though not so much in beer anymore as the one couple we do this the most, his wife wants cash though the husband is the one doing the work, so to not make waves we usually give him cash depending on what he did for us. He will do car work for me when I cannot get my DH to do it, I pay him for that. But little stuff like moving something we trade favors on. ----I hope she does not become a huge problem for you.

if you can afford a little more and think $100 is too cheap than do so--I certainly would not go over $300 though. If you don't want to do cash then give a gift card to a store you know they like. I think it is ridiculous for a kid (or parent) to expect a gift for graduation. I would just send a nice card. Kids (and some adults) are way too entitled these days and expect everything just given to them. If you do end up buying something engraved make sure is is something that will actually get used and not tossed out by the kid. They might use a keyring for that nice new car he/she has.

Bigger issue - a 16 year old living withi a 29 year old and liability
Are you still not responsible for him until he is 18, how can he tell you where he will live? Unless he emancipates himself and he does something wrong, can they go against you since you are his mother and legally responsible for him? I worry more about him living with a 29 year old sister rather than returning a house key to me that is a bigger issue.

My feelings; people shacking up together for years and years
and then all of a sudden deciding to get married don't need a thing, obviously. A shower should not even be given. I lived with my now husband a while (nowadays who doesn't!) before we married and I also had been married before years ago but he was not....so of course HIS mom wanted a shower. I told her absolutely not unless it was just the immediate family, his mom, sisters, etc, more like a celebration/get together. And so that's what we did. Showers are tacky, period. Unless it's a couple of young kids getting married straight out of the house and that doesn't happen much anymore.

I studied to be a scopist years and years ago
Back in the early 1990s I took a course called Note reader Scopist. They read court reporter notes (those long skinny papers that looks like a cash receipt) and types them into documents. I had found the course through something called At Home Professions but just didn't finish it because it was too expensive for me. But I am familiar with them and even found my book from the first course I took. Looking back I think it would have been a blast if I had kept up with it.
It is definitely legitimate. A lot has changed since the early 90s, so I'm not too familiar with the industry now. I do remember what was really weird was it didn't take a lot for me to learn it. For instance I could look at a line of court notes and see something that looked like: NV p srn - and I seemed to know exactly what it said. Just weird. My DH used to say that I understood it because I was an alien and my ship crashed in Roswell. HA HA HA Anyway...that's what I know about it. But if you Google note reader scopist or at home professions i'm sure you could probably find a lot of info.
I have been vegetarian on/off for 35 years, was vegan for about 5 years sm
not that hard. Right now, I am having so many issues with food allergies and celiac disease, having to give up nightshade veggies...nothing left to eat. I am eating some meat now, but not when the gastroparesis sets in!
Being vegan is not hard...unless you are a celiac. This is how I figured out the celiac part because so many of the meat analogs and vegan packaged foods use gluten for the protein and I got really sick from it. I gave up all the premade things and the whole grains with gluten and I was fine.
There is vegan and then there is VE-GAN. By definition, vegans don't wear, use or consume anything that is derived of animals...no leather shoes, most shampoos and toothpastes are off the list, as are deodorants. No wool or silk. Anything with soap usually has animal byproducts. It is very involved and rather difficult to do.
Giving up meat, eggs and dairy is no big deal, except for cheese. You hear that ad about "comfort proteins" in a baby formula and there is such a thing. Mother's milk, be it human, cow, goat, whatever...contains a chemical that triggers the release of endorphins in the brain so that feeding feels good in more ways than one. The purpose of this is ensure that the nursed young want to nurse and thrive. Human milk has a lot of these, so does cow's milk and cow juice triggers the same reaction in the adult human brain. Cheese is concentrated milk and therefore these chemicals are also concentrated. As a result, cheese is an addictive substance. This is the hardest thing to give up when going vegan. Vegan cheese substitutes are nasty and they don't melt. If a dairy-free cheese melts, it contains casein, an animal protein and not vegan.

This year will be our 35th year
The first couple years it was literally 5 or 6 times a day every day (more on the weekends). Over time it gradually slowed down (once a day) and over the past few years its been 2 or 3 times a week. Not sure that is average or not. There were times were I felt it was too much and him not enough, then there were times where I wanted it more and he didn't. Guess everyone goes through a phase. I guess because of how long we've been together, now it's just comfortable - nothing exciting about it. Just a routine. I have to make it exciting in my mind and pretend I'm someone else.
I don't know what it is, but you are correct...after awhile the lust and infatuation wears off and you get in a routine. I guess for us it was that we really didn't know each other when we married (we dated for 3 weeks then eloped). Once I got to know him it was too late. Now 35 years later it is just comfort (and amazingly we never once used birth control and never had any kids). My mom still tells me she's amazed at the frequency of our encounters that not even once did I even have a "close call" with getting pregnant.
But 35 years once or twice a week and 3 or 4 times on weekends. Not sure if that is normal.

Lost my mom 23 years ago and dad 18 years ago.
My son was not even 1 when my mom died....she was only 50. My dad died at age 59. So even though I feel your pain....I would have been very grateful to have them into their 80's. I guess we take what we get and be thankful. Sometimes it is hard though.
I was married for 13 years and 2 years
after my divorce I met the most incredible man. He was also divorced, we both have 2 kids, and though we are not married, we have been together for 9 years. They are still out there, you may have to go through a few marginal ones before you find him, but they are out there and available.
My 7-year-old dog is very ill.
One of my two huskies started getting sick Saturday or Sunday. Her symptoms suggest poisoning or a brain tumor. She has always been sensitive to airborn allergens. Her eyes itch terribly if she the dog bed has cedar, and we avoid foods with wheat or corn or too many carbs, trying to keep her healthy. Anyway, it seems the slip cover I put on the dogs' chair may have been treated with something like formaldehyde and she is reacting to that. But I removed it when I started suspecting it on Monday night, and left the window open all night. She seems to get better and then gets worse, even though I'm not letting her back up on that chair. We have ordered an air filter for the living room. But symptoms wax and wane, and they are mostly neurological: squints eyes, acts like she can't see, walks in circles, breathing is slowed, she's very lethargic, presses her head on me for comfort (she's done this for years, but now I read head-pressing is a neurological sign), drooling, forgets to to outside to urinate and has incontience in the house.
Please pray that the Creator has mercy and heals her for us. Misha is sweet.
We are getting my son the PS2 this year,

for your tax return? That is through one of the biggest places we have, not some fly-by-night. Mine are more in depth because of rental, selling a home this past year and my working from home but this year am getting back over $6,000.00 but guess what? I am always just glad to get back any amount rather than paying!!

they did surprise me after saying it was delayed a month, I ended up getting it about 10 days later. When it has been delayed it has taken about 5 weeks. The website should give you a date of when to expect it, and that is generally right on the money. As for the date, contact the courts and have him arrested, maybe jail will teach him to pay on time. This is such a bad year
that my allergies are acting up, and I've had very little trouble for the past 10 years or so. Interestingly, my allergies decreased to near nothing after I was on an antifungal medication for an extended period. There are theories that all the increased allergies and asthma are related to they heavy-duty antibiotics we are able to use now for bacterial infections. Maybe these are messing up our airway flora and increasing problems with allergies?
When you say you've been on nasal sprays, what about the asthma ones, like albuterol nad Atrovent? That's what they had to put my sister on.
Hope you get some relief. Allergies are miserable.

My 17-year-old DD
has been wearing a size 10 or 10 1/2 ladies for the last 3 years. She is 5Ǝ" or 5Ə". My 20-year-old DS wears a 12 mens and has since high school. I wear an 8 or 9 and my hubby only wears an 8. We have no idea where these kids get their height or those feet! Our 15-year-old DS is following in their footsteps, excuse the pun, as well. He is in a 10 mens sneaker and already a head taller than my 5ƌ". Unbelievable.

If it's the one I think it is, my friend send it to my last year, and I almost had heart failure. I screamed so loud I thought I'd wake up the house. I also had the sound on really loud and never again! LOL

Country MT, you are not harming your son. I am almost 52 yo, have a great niece on weekends, 2-1/2 yo. It is the only stability she gets. If she wants to sleep with us until she is 15 it will be okay! Her only requests as she comes in the door are "I want my bottle, blankie and rock-a-bye." She lives in a horribly unstable household and we are like heaven on earth to her. Before anyone blasts me, I have called DSFS - they are short on foster parents, so no help there. Her mom is too selfish to let us keep her all the time, is pregnant with her 4th. We also keep the 14-month-old baby boy one night during the week. New baby is due 12/18. Baby boy prefers the crib unless he is suffering with teething. My mom has an ongoing fit about me giving Sarah a bottle at all. Sarah drinks the bottle while we rock, hands it to me when finished and life goes on. Sleeping with us comes from her being sick as a tiny infant and not sleeping much at all. I slept with my grandparents when little and grew up to get married, have 2 kids, and am not sick or perverted. Listen to your heart, not negative people. Your son will love you for it forever.
