I am so sick of this; it is happening weekly. We already had enough drunk drivers and criminals. When will we have had enough that someone builds the fence and rounds them all up? I do not feel sorry for the "separated families." We all know that if they missed them that much they would go back to be with them. The fact that they don't tells me that their family is not their priority, so why should it be ours? I formerly worked for the state in the medical field and a huge portion of the "patients" I cared for were illegals. We are all footing the bill for them and it has to stop. I feel like if you are over the age of 14 and you get drunk, drive without a license, and kill someone it should be a mandatory life sentence. In his case they should just send him and his illegal family back to Mexico and keep tabs on them so they can't re-enter the US. That is the only way! If we quit paying for their free healthcare and schooling, we could afford to police our borders and keep our country safe for all Americans.
Illegals
I think your view on this could also depend on the state you live in. My brother and sister live in California and are just livid when it comes to illegals and what is going on out there in California. I live in Michigan and have just not been as aware of the problem as they are. I feel like I have been working so hard to earn a living that I am clueless a lot of the time about what is going on out in the "real world". On the other hand maybe it's not such a bad thing to be unaware! All I know for sure is that I don't feel a whole lot of pride in being American lately - the war in Iraq that is draining us of beautiful young people who are dying over there and all the money it is costing. . . having no idea who I want to vote for in this election since I can't get enthused about any candidate . . . yeah maybe I better just keep my head down and keep typing . . . just had to edit out a word that started with S and couldn't believe it - not a swear, just a work that is synonymous with dumb! Yikes

There will come a time when you will be able to do NOTHING without this ID. The illegals will do anything they want, why do you think they're illegal? Any state that does not accept this ID card will basically be ignored as a state in this country, your country.
No money for illegals
That was such a good observation. They also buy up chunks of our property here, but if we "buy" there in Mexico it "reverts back to the government" after 99 or 100 years. If that is how they are to us, then I say no US property should be sold to those without citizenship. I think she should spend another two dollars an hour and hire Americans to work around her house. There are good American people out there who, like us, only want to make a living wage and these people are driving them out of employment.

we had a 9-month pregnant mother and fetus that got killed this week in an auto accident. emergency section didn't save the baby. hit by a drunk driver who was 15-yo and illegal. he lied and said he was 19. well of course they are trialing as a minor, but you know what he was an adult enough to lie about his age, bigolly charge him for the age he wanted to be!!!!!!

Mixing the two sauces togeter gives it the right amount of garlic and veggies. Our family is Italian on both sides, but we all agree for a quick jar sauce instead of homemade, this does the trick! YUM

maybe every other time or once a month to give you a break. My DH bought a $2500 tractor to cut our 5 acres(4 to cut) in the next county and has not done it once as yet, though he just had to have that tractor so he could cut the property He always has some excuse not to cut it. The tractor does get used on our 1 acre here at the house, but that is about it now (he used to cut the grass at a local church but no more). We have a local guy cut it maybe 2 x a year for $120 a pop. Obviously we are not maintaining it to look pretty. We have it cut it when it gets 2-3 feet tall basically. Last year we got away with only 1 time, not quite sure how we did that though.
Do It Yourself? or Hire Out?
Just curious--how much do you do yourself around the house? When do you pay others to do the work?
When we bought the house in the country, the previous owner was telling me about: the guys who plow her driveway, her cleaning lady, and she offered to give me the name of her window cleaner.
We don't pay others to do what we can do ourselves. I do the: cleaning, gardening, window-washing, painting. DH does the lawn, small repairs, clears the driveway, etc.
Only time we pay someone else is when the job requires more expertise than we have--for instance having the heater repaired, or major electrical work (DH can do the small stuff).
I even ripped down the 4 foot stockade fence in the back yard, tilled my vegetable patch, dug up some medium-sized bushes, etc. myself.
So, how much are you willing to do? where do you draw the line? Why?

an honest, trustworthy Financial Advisor, who happens to be my brother's best friend of 25 years.

That is true but the owners who hire them
should be held accountable. The American roofing/contruction co owners that do not want to pay their share of tax or pay a descent wage to a legal worker should be held accountable. The immigrants working illegal are just trying to make a living. (Yes it's stealing and wrong and I do not approve. Especially when they bring their whole families here.) The owners of these company are the real cheats though. They buy big vans and pick them up and drop them off. It's horrible wages are so low for hourly workers now. :(

who is now 15 to babysit my 2 (7 and 8). She has 2 younger brothers (6&7) so plenty of experience being around younger kids (plus her mom is right up the road if there is a problem). I pay her $5/hour and usually a $5 tip to boot. Kids have a blast with her too, so it all works out.

If you live near airport, airlines hire seniors for customer care type activities which vary and you get flight benefits.
All the kids should pitch in to hire help. Shouldn't all be on

I'd still hire a local general contractor.
Whether modular or traditional stick-built, there are a million details, legalities and regulations involved - and you'll likely still need some local subcontractors. A good general contractor can save you a ton of grief and bad experiences.
It is o.k. to hire firends to do the work cheaper,
but this lady is crazy! Do not give her any money, a deal is a deal and the husband is happy. If she needs some money, she should ask her husband for it.
Because meds and utilities are going sky high and no one will hire them nm
....
Maybe next time hire a company that employs US citizens ; )

To me, it makes perfect sense to not hire someone based on poor credit when that person would be working in an environment such as a bank, handling funds, etc. I see less reason to do so in other jobs, but in a bank, sure, it seems only logical to me. Sorry.
I think so many companies are just trying
to cover their but so they won't be sued. I once read on a stroller a tag that said do not collapse while child is in stroller. LOL
We tried one of these companies
and it was supposedly a "reputable" one, recommended highly by just about everyone. Searched online, you name it. Thought I did my homework pretty good. Well, they were a rip off. Thankfully I kept logs of everyone I talked to about what and when, etc. They screwed up several of my accounts, didn't pay them for almost 3 months (even though they received payment) and none of my interest rates were adjusted. I contacted one of the lawers for the cc company that was handling the collection at that point since my company failed to do so and they said that this was a very common thing and that they really did not like to deal with companies like that, would rather deal directly with the person.
Good luck to you though, sounds like you actually found one that does some kind of work.

We have a good one, but it is funny when there is an error on their part they call your employer... When they want to loan you some more money, they call your house!

They cut production to get the prices up again. If we're not _____ by the oil nations, we're ____ by the American oil companies. G-R-E-E-D is the name of the game in the last few years.
Government tells us to cut our driving. Well, I hate to tell them but between a pickup and a car, we drove a total of 5,838 miles last year, and most of that mileage was 100 miles a day for DH to go to work. I get to the store once a month anymore, 2 mile round trip. The only thing I can cut down on is to walk to the store and back. Been there done that, but I'm no spring chicken and carrying 5 bags or more, well....you'd see a bag every 100 feet. 
Make your own income, hire a plumber. Total unnecessary. Men are useless in the family plan.

I don't see how it's any different that american companies are hiring illegals here versus american companies offshoring (which I detest) because the issue on either side is -- bottom line - the dollar - and what American employers are willing to pay today...........and in either case, we are all losing our jobs to foreigners (whether they are legal, offshore, or illegal workers).

As an IC, I don't think they are allowed to have you on a set schedule. Other companies have
gotten in legal trouble because they were treating ICs as employees. With my IC job, I let them know when I can work and, if they need extra help, they will call and ask if I can do more, but they do not TELL me when to work.

I agree -- people should be far more tolerant than they seem to be. I'm a Christian but would not be offended if anyone sayd Happy Kwanza or Hannakuh or Happy Allah Day or whatever!
However, in the interest of keeping politically correct and not being offensive to everyone, they resort to the measures you brought up.
I think we should make sure and not be as sensitive about the word Christmas not being used as those we are complaining about are to it being used. We don't want to be viewed as oversensitive, critical or ugly as they are.
As religion really is a personal choice, we should remember that keeping it alive in our personal lives is what is so important.

Maybe you should educate yourself on insurance company profits rising via higher premiums despite more claims being denied due to risk. The problem is not the supposed risks, its the corporate greed. No matter how much you pay for insurance, a sizable portion of it goes to salary someone to find (and legislate)loopholes so they won't have to pay anyone's claim. Go ahead and buy into their propaganda that its other customers causing the problem, not their CEO's new mansion or their profit margin. Then see how much they appreciate your loyalty next time you file a claim.

to shadow in to fix technical problems. Also, many services and hospitals have this ability to keep tabs on their work/workers. I had one use it to break in and type a message to me when they needed a stat.

I agree with trying to negotiate with the CC companies
yourself first. That's what I did. We had a medical problem and we went from paying on time for years to 90 days behind in 3 months. We wound up living off the cards...which is an absolute no-no, but couldn't be helped, and wound up with $45,000 in CC debt.
I called them all and they all have programs for hardship cases. They set up payments for you which are lower than what you would usually be paying and they lowered my interest rates again (in the good times, I was paying 9%) from 19% to 21% down to 9% again and one company even lowered my interest rate to 6%!
They automatically take the money from your account and you just have to remember to keep the money in there. Payments are much lower since they lowered the interest rate and all the cards will be paid off in 4 years.
One company did close my account, but none of the others did. I haven't used a credit card for 2 years and most of the cards I had for 10 years.

The credit card companies are going
to be do everything they can get away with in the next year because of the new rules that will go into effect in 2010. Keep an eye on your interest rates. I have a couple that went up for no apparent reason. I called them immediately. One company lowered my interest rate below what it had previously been. The other did not, and I paid it off and did not use it for a while. They sent me a notice a recently that my credit limit had been increased and the rate had been reduced (back to what it had been previously, of course).

Those companies you listed at non profits
All of those companies you listed are non profits as described and accepted by the IRS.
I'm afraid you're going to be out of luck with your animal rescue lady, unless she reorganizes as a non profit, or makes you officially part of the company.
But, DON'T TAKE MY WORD FOR IT. Check with your tax person, or if you can't reach her, find another tax person. Call H&R Block. There may be some loopholes that you can use to get the deduction.

Not so much by unknowns but by my own credit card companies,
all foreign people, trying to sell me the credit protection. The last one called me for around 10 days straight (unknown # on the ID)until I finally answered! I told them all to put me on THEIR "do not call list" or I'd cancel the card. Seems to have worked. ;)

There are companies that specialize in refacing cabinets
Veneer is tricky stuff to work with. If none of it is chipped off, you might be able to glue it back down. But if it's chipped, there's not a whole lot you can do except use wood filler to fill in the gap and paint all the cabinets.

My DH gets bonuses from time to time and they are tax free. I always thought gifts and bonuses were just that, nontaxable, not to mention the tax write off for the company contributing or did that change somewhere over the years?
