My house was broken into while it was locked...
I normally leave it unlocked and noone has ever just walked in. It would have been a lot cheaper to fix if it had been unnlocked for the burglary. When my house was broken into, it was empty and the majority of the monetary damages were due to the damage caused by breaking in.
Yep, and that "donkey" in the white house doesn't care.
No reason for gas to be that high right now, especially diesel!  But as long as they are making a fortune on it, they don't care what it is doing to the economy.
Pay off highest interest rate debt first, then the next, and onto the next. The house can wait. Do

Nevermind- I read about it (sm)
Apparently a 7 year old girl swallowed two magnets that had fallen out of a Polly Pocket and it caused a bowel obstruction. I understand that, but I thought any toy with ages 3+ on it could have parts that could accidentally be swallowed. If that is a hazard, children could swallow batteries or any other small part for that matter. I do understand the lead pain being an issue, but the magnets?? In my opinion that's a little extreme. Maybe they are pointing out both problems so we will say to ourselves that one is a big deal and the other is not, kind of to soften the blow that we could have been letting our babies play with lead paint that we try so hard to avoid in our homes.
Nevermind.. order something...
called Lock Laces online.  Expensive, but hopefully they will last.
Nevermind the gift - take her out on the town.

Give that same gift of getting out once a month.  Think of something new each month - and get her back into the swing of things!!!!  Songs are just reminders of what she has just gone through in my opinion!  Spend time with her.  Call her when she leasts expects it.  Make her do things that single people do (even if you are married explain the situation to your husband).  I'm sure he can respect that you are helping a friend in need at this time.  She'll get through it with your help.

most are pigs....*lol*

You have been around some pigs!
My husband the exact opposite of what you list- when we first married I had bugs- he showed me how to rinse cans screw out prior to putting in garbage, things too big for garbage disposal wrapped in plastic, put in freezer until night before garbage runs, taken out and discarded- no sting for the garbage that way as still frozen by time picked up, carries liquid soap in container and paper towels with him when traveling so will have things to wash his hands with, santizes with alcohol telephones, remote controls- is a chef and would NEVER think about leaving food particles on anything- says I don’t wash dishes clean enough (my sight not as good as his) and I leave particles and he has to rewash. He buys really good cookware and he told me NOT to use a certain tool because it would scratch the pan - you know some guy or guys but you sure don’t know them all. I guess mine not passive-aggressive like the ones you have met.
No wait, wait... 'mere Mom, me and my friends

can all drink it too.  Come on guyz... my Mom won't mind, have a drink and have some fun.  Bring the chocolate syrup!  Doesn't she have big nipples.  "My Dad likes 'em too and my baseball coach!

Pigs at the Trough

New York Times bestseller in hardcover.  From a provocative, nationally syndicated columnist comes a blistering, wickedly funny indictment of the nexus of corporate chiefs, Wall St. analysts and lawyers who have perpetrated massive corporate fraud in America, and how these boondoggles are cheating average Americans.

Review:

A rousing call to action against special interests that have all too often triumphed over the national interest.  As only she can, Arianna Huffington breathes energy and passion into the reform agenda. A withering, breathtaking, quintessentially controversial book that will inspire, inflame, and educate. Senator John McCain

Who filled the trough?  Who set the table at the banquet of greed?  How has it been possible for corporate pigs to gorge themselves on grossly inflated pay packages and heaping helpings of stock options while the average American struggles to make do with THEIR LEFTOVERS?

Provocative political commentator Arianna Huffington yanks back the curtain on the unholy alliance of CEOs, politicians, lobbyists, and Wall Street bankers who have shown a brutal disregard for those in the office cubicles and on the factory floors. As she puts it:

“The economic game is not supposed to be rigged like some shady ring toss on a carnival midway.”   Yet it has been, allowing corporate crooks to bilk the public out of trillions of dollars, magically making our pensions and 401(k)s disappear and walking away with astronomical PAYOUTS and absurdly lavish perks-for-life.

The media have put their fingers on pieces of the sordid puzzle, but Pigs at the Trough presents the whole ugly picture of what’s really going on for the first time—a blistering, wickedly witty portrait of exactly how and why the worst and the GREEDIEST are running American business and government into the ground.

Making the case that our public watchdogs have become little more than obedient lapdogs, unwilling to bite the corporate hand that feeds them, Arianna Huffington turns the spotlight on the tough reforms we must demand from Washington.  We need, she argues, to go way beyond the lame Corporate Responsibility Act if we are to stop the voracious corporate predators from eating away at the very foundations of our democracy.

Devastatingly funny and powerfully indicting, Pigs at the Trough is a rousing call to arms and a must-read for all those who are outraged by the scandalous state of corporate America.

pot bellied pigs
what a pet!
Right, and pigs fly. You outed yourself as pagan by the way you
made your post.
DOG FOOD FED TO CHICKENS AND PIGS

I absolutely find it hard to believe that some fool took all the recalled dog food and sold it to farmers raising chickens and pigs and that these fools bought it... now the chickens and pigs are contaminated.. Who eats chickens and pigs  WE DO... well we think India is a bad thing, dealing with the CHINESE is worse apparently, They have been adding melanine to made the protein content look higher.  THey were also caught selling off the sewage and some company extracted the fats and made lard out of them and sold that for human consumption also.

What are all these people thinking of.. other than to exterminate US dogs, chickens and cows, enough of buying from these countries.  It has to stop somewhere, they can poison our food, all in the name of the almightly dollar or YEN or whatever they use.

Disgusted

DOG FOOD FED TO CHICKENS AND PIGS
From what we just read, the recalled pet food was then sold or given to pig farmers, as well as the wheat gluten that went into the chicken food.
We had Guinea Pigs for years sm

We had two that the Pet Store said they were males .   Wrong.  The mom had 5 offspring.   One offspring was pure white which is unusual.  They make great pets.  If they would hear you rattlling papers in the kitchen they would get excited and want attention.   The last one died after 8 years.

Oh that's so funny! Pigs are kind of
like big labs, playing in their water. It's hilarious to watch them at the dog park. One of the big bushes has a moat around it that can fill with water after a rain, and every time a dog takes the plunge to wallow, the crowd wails in sympathy for the poor owner. :op
The people in the next neighborhood over have pot bellied pigs
They have three of them. They're too cute. I'm sure they eat a lot, but from what I know they're supposed to be good pets. My brother-in-law was actually going to get one once. I can't remember why he changed his mind.
Sounds broken to me - sm
I had a display case/suitcase (70#) fall on my foot years ago, it got knocked and started to fall so I jumped out of the way, but I had not jump back far enough and the edge of it landed on my right big toe. The next day I was showing it to the company controller (it happened at work), she freaked as it was blue, black, purple, and of course hurt like the dickens. Went to the hospital, yep, broken clean in half. All they did for it was give me a special boot for my foot to wear for 3 weeks and obviously to use crutches until it was less painful. Can't hurt to get it checked but there really is not much they can do either.
Broken hearted. SM
Last Wednesday evening I called the police regarding dog barking right next to my house. It was just terrible all day, 12 hours the dog was at the door and they did not let it in, then they left. I kept leaving the house and coming back to avoid it. It was day off. This has been a problem with these people, who have beautiful dogs. Some days not bad at all, some just terrible. I finally could not take it any longer. I waited for the police to come out in front of theh house and the neighbor and his wife drove up shortly afterwards. When the neighbor first saw the police he apologized for his barking dog, which was still going crazy. When I, trying to be upfront and honest, told him I called and was sorry for doing so, things got bad. He was swinging his arms around, denying everything, etc. He said the next time my car is stuck in the snow I can just remember what I did to him. I never ask for anyone's help, but a few times he helped get my car out. I take care of myself and never, ever ask anyone for help. Now it is silent next door. I love dogs more than anything and just wanted the police to help me speak to him. The policeman said that the guy handled it very immaturely and told the guy he was blowing this out of proportion. I am sad and feel terrible living here now. Please help.
I think my spirit is broken also (sm)
He said to me this morning "You can't take care of yourself, you need someone to take care of you, you don't make enough money." Well, I would probably have to work more but the fact is I make pretty darn good money considering I do 99.9% of the taking care of our children and everything around our house. Just another way to degrade me I think.
Broken hearts?

HELP......  My son is 17, almost 18 years old.  His girlfriend of one year (a lifetime at this age) has just left (two weeks ago) for college about 4 hours away from hometown... my son is having a HORRIBLE time adjusting to this.   She is partying, not text messaging, no emails, etc. etc.  all the while claiming she loves him but just does not think about him much anymore.   I was up until almost midnight last night with a crying teenager and trying to explain to him that this too will make him stronger and all the crap you are supposed to say, none of which seemed to make him feel any better.   He is horribly lonely... they have not officially "broken up" though she said if that would make him happy she understands...  What is a mother to do?  Back away slowly and let him walk through it...  make cookies and wring my hands until I go nuts... watch him be depressed and say nothing at all????  Any other Mom's who have gone through this???  ANY help would be appreciated.   Thanks in advance.

what is the material that is broken
is it hard plastic?  could possibly glue (Gorilla glue) and clamp somehow?
Thanks both of you. My heart is just broken sm
not much else I can say. I have tried so many times to talk to her about this and she just doesn't care.
Don't know if this machine is broken or not...help?
Sorry to intrude here but someone in this crowd likely know the answer to my quandary(SP?)... I'm not a Transcriptionist but my neighbor wants me to sell these two machines he has. I learned trans back in high school (30 years ago!) but think these two machine "might" be broken. Both units are micro players (the Lanier VW-210 and Lanier P-101). Neither show the "units" or "location" in their digital displays... From my recall, the machine was supposed to tell you where in the tape you were (hence I believe the above indicators). Everything else works on the machines but if they're broken I don't think I should sell them. Any suggestions? I went looking for advice, online manuals, you name it. Whatever suggestions or advice you can offer would be greatly appreciated!
We were considering a rabbit in March but decided to go with guinea pigs instead (sm)

My daughter is 5 and really wanted a cat, but we just aren't "cat people."  We have a big dog, and she loves him but wanted something cuddlier.  We wanted something that she could help care for and play with.  We get the "pigs" out of their cage every day (we have a an indoor fence/play yard that we put on a towel to catch the pee and poop) and let them run around.  They have turned out to be a lot more fun than I thought they would.  They really don't smell as long as you change the bedding in the cage every three to four days (might go longer if you only had one).  From the things I've read and our experience, they are really gentle and tolerant (no one has gotten even an accidental bite since we got them in March, and we handle them ALL the time).

The negatives are that they are quite messy ( lots more vaccuming in the room where the cage is - again might not be as bad with only one - most of the bedding goes flying when they get to chasing each other around), and they can be noisy (especially at night when you're wanting to sleep).

They are terribly cute, and we love them but, like any animal, they are a lot of work.  I don't regret it at all, but I can see where it wouldn't be for everyone.

I think she died of a broken heart.

She said in an interview awhile back that if it wasn't for her baby, she'd be with Daniel whereever he was.  She wanted to leave this earth.

This whole thing is so sad - like some horrible made-for-TV-movie.

Black and blue toe - broken??
Ok, so I was walking from my daughter's room to my room last night and had this sharp pain in my 2nd toe on my left foot. I just shook it off as it didn't hurt that bad, but I woke up this morning and my toe is all bruised up with dark purple and redish shades on the bottom half. It doesn't really hurt unless I put direct pressure on it, but do you think this could be broken? Obviously, I would need an x-ray to know for sure, but does anyone have another explanation for why this would happen. I went ahead and buddy-taped it just in case and will continue to monitor for any changes, and will probably go to the dr on Monday if it gets worse, but this is just weird as it doesn't really feel broken??
Anyone ever broken your clavicle? How did it feel? (sm)
I am concerned I may have broken mine when I tripped and fell last night.  Trying to decide if it is really broken or if I am being a wimp!  It hurts when I raise my arm on that side, not excruciating, but not pleasant.
You sure it is not broken? Two months is way too long - sm
Go to an Orthopedist if you have not yet done so. Maybe you tore something if it is not broken. A sprain normally heals in less than a week, not months.
Nana - you are so funny! If only pigs had fingers!! I'm gonna have to try the Got2B shampoo (nm)

could be broken blood vessel, often called

soccer kicker's toe, football kicker's toe, etc.  RICE is the treatment for it.  It looks worse than it actually is.  (RICE - rest, ice, compression, elevation.)

A broken love story - who do you agree with?

Two people were both in very bad marriages when they met - her husband had been cheating for years but she was afraid to leave, his wife had kicked him out repeatedly but had him come back to live basically as a roommate to help pay the bills.  They fell in love.  He was a strong Christian and started to feel terribly guilty and told her through many tears that it had to end, that God had to come first.  She, being a backslidden Christian herself saw that he was right.  Through many tears and lots of prayers for forgiveness and help, they let each other go.  Later, his wife kicked him out again, this time permanently.  About six months later, his love decided to finally leave her still cheating husband.  She told the man she loved.  He said that he missed her terribly and it was the hardest thing he had ever done, but because of the way their relationship started, they could never be together again, because it would be a sin.  She disagreed, feeling that they had been forgiven for what they had done and that neither of their marriages ended because of each other.  Who do you agree with?

I heard the voice yelling out about broken record
and I figured Kara was saying similar statement as she had for previous round. Had no idea Megan's brother. I, like you, could not believe how she was acting and basically think she shot her own self in her foot. What music producer would take a wannabe and try to make a star out of that? Besides do not consider her that talented at all.
Also add another new rule...sm
At a local school, there is to be no talking during lunch due to a few choking episodes that couldn't be heard over all the talking (all turned out fine). If someone is caught, they lose recess. We read it to our 8-year-old son because he loves to talk during lunch and barely gets his lunch eaten, and he didn't like that one:-) I can see how some kids abuse passing gas as we have a few of those neighbor kids that do it and laugh about it, but our son gets embarrassed about things like that, thank goodness.
RED SOX RULE
10 to 1 going into the 4th inning. WAY TO GO, SOX
the rule is . . .

go in order of arrival first at stop sign.  In the event of arriving at the same time, or there is question of who arrives first, you are to yield to the driver to the right.  These situations would be easier if people would just pay attention, and then you have those drivers that don't have a clue as to how to handle it, so they just sit there.  In that case, I just wave those people on.  And, like you, I have seen people basically just treat it as a yield sign.  Those are the ones you have to look out for -- the slide-throughs!

Need help with ideas for remodeling house and decorating. We bought a house

in fair condition about 10 years ago, got into some medical problems, and have just now paid off the mortgage.  Hubby and I agreed we would do nothing to the house for remodeling because we wanted to pay it off first, then the medical bills.  I need to know of some websites/magazines/books to start researching for how to go about this.  These will be major repairs - roof, septic, basement, windows, pretty much everything except wiring.  Where do we start?  Maybe hire a general contractor just to do an evaluation and give us recommendations?  Hubby is a handyman but cant seem to get a handle on where to begin.  We would like to do as much of the work ourselves as possible - labor of love and all that...

Thanks for any and all kind suggestions!

Another school rule...
just another reason I am glad I homeschool!

A local school district just informed the students via announcement over the PA system that "Farting" in class can now result in AEP placement! I couldn't believe it so I've questioned some of the kids that go there. All I've questioned say yes, that's what they said.

How stupi*d can you get?
For those of you who believe this rule had to be made
because of those with medical problems - you are very naive.  We are know there are exceptions to all rules - this has obviously become a huge problem with obnoxious children.
New Texas Rule
I for one am so glad I do not live in Texas.  To force someone to take a shot like that!  It should be the parents who decide.   I have suffered from cervical cancer and no I do not want my two daughters having this injection.  We do not yet know enough about the side-effects and long-term effects of this new drug.
my rule of thumb has always been--sm
if the critics hate it, I will definitely go out of my way to see it. If the critics love it, to me, it is usually the most boring movie I will have ever seen. I don't understand it, but it works for me! lol.
If you really loved me, by Ann Rule. sm
she writes true crime books, really excellent writer, one of my favorites. However, I need to mix it in with chick lit, recently finished The Devil Wears Prada. Had the Nanny Diaries on my mp3 player (I thought the stories had a similar tone). Also like Michael Lee West book Mad Girls in Love, because it takes place in Tennessee, and she had some familiar places in it. Want to read some of her other stuff.
Exception to the rule
Well, she is the exception to the rule here - she does not own an Ipod, will not even let me have the radio on in the car and her cell phone, which she has had for 3 years because I insisted she have it at school because of asthma, has rang no more than 10 times in all that time - her part of the cell phone minutes do not even account for 10-15 minutes a month.  She has had driver's education and I have let her drive with me all summer and she will only drive to and from school.
Thanks for that one. Animals rule!
xx
New rule - anyone in agreement?
New rule - if a person goes to the ER and says she has 10 out of 10 pain, but sits on the table laughing and joking with her mother, playing with game boy thingy (or this could be a guy too), claims she has 10 out of 10 pain, but is not showing any signs of pain and is talking on her cell phone, the doctor should be able to tell her she needs to go to her regular physician the next day as she is not showing any signs of pain and the emergency room is just that - for emergencies (you know things like gunshot wounds, asthma attacks and other states of emergencies - hence the term "emergency" room.  If they can't get in to their doctor then go to day care, in/out or whatever it is called but don't come back to the er unless there is definitely an emergency.  I know all about how ERs are not suppose to turn away anyone, but this is getting out of hand.  Oh yes, and then have a bill ready for the cost they have just incurred by the use of the ER for a non-emergency type visit.  Anyone else share similar views?
I agree with this rule BUT
I do understand why some people show up in the ER rather than at doc's office. In my area, there are really no quick care type facilities. Our doctors' offices are very hard to schedule into. For instance, at my local hospital, just blocks from my house, nearly every practice is owned by that hospital's healthcare system. The "system" has decided that they lose money when people make a "sick" appointment for the next day. In their opinion, if you make an appointment to see the doc tomorrow because you feel unwell today... you may feel better tomorrow and not show up. Now they lose money because that slot is open. (Oh, and they do charge $50 if you don't show up.)

What this means is, if I've been sick all day and I feel really awful and know I want to see the doc tomorrow, I can't call the office today and schedule for the next opening. I MUST schedule my sick appointment on the day I'm sick. OK, so now I wait until the second the practice opens the next day. They have maybe 10 slots available for sick appointments, and anyone who is sick is calling like crazy to get one of those slots. It's like trying to get really hot concert tickets. If there are no sick slots left on the schedule, the office says, "Sorry, we can't schedule you for tomorrow, you'll have to call back."

A lot of people in our area are completely frustrated with this nonsense. They end up going to the ER instead, because they'll be seen. We recently had to do this with my mother-in-law who had been running a fever between 100 and 101 for four days and tried three times to get an appointment with her doctor. She felt absolutely awful during all of that time. Turns out she had a sinus infection. All she needed were antibiotics, but she had to go to the ER in order to be seen.

Where do I live? Just outside of Philadelphia, sometimes called the "Capital of Medicine". We have 6 med schools here, and umpteen hospitals, yet it's difficult to get appointments when you need them. On average, I wait 3 months for regular physical exams, and seeing specialists?? Forget it. You may wait even longer!

That's my rant for the day.
First rule: Know your prices. sm
Second rule: Then again, it won't save you any money to drive all around unless you are making substantial purchases. If just one item is a little higher at Wal-Mart or the grocery store where you already are shopping, might as well go ahead and get it then. I shop first at the Dollar Store. Love Top Job and can't always find it anywhere else. Also, those old timey remedies include vinegar, cheapest and proven to kill as many germs as alcohol and bleach. Back in the day, I remember the ladies starting out the wringer washer (yes, I am that old) with the whites, then running those out to the side and reusing the water. I have actually wished a few times I had a wringer washer, especially after a hurricane. Then they started rinsing the clothes using the same water as long as they could for the rest of the stuff.

Make a list and stick to it, no impulse buying, take your coupons, maybe include a small cooler or thermal bag in your vehicle especially in the summer.

Check out the new lightbulbs, LED's and these new fluorscents, but beware of mercury in broken fluorescents if you are of childbearing age or have small children about, especially if one breaks. These are for heavy duty areas, the "light that is almost always on". From what I understand, there is no real saving if you just turn it on to get something, then turn it right back off. I had motion detection lights outside, but had to unplug it, too much breeze here on the coast and the trees constantly set them off. Almost choked on that light bill.

Some economist on TV was saying to shop the perimeters of the store and avoid the center aisles, this for both money and health reasons.

See something really cute and not too expensive at wal-mart? Started telling myself I bet I could get 50cents for that in a garage sale in 6 months. Not doing the impulse buying will save a small fortune; it really adds up. Don't look at the stuff while you are checking out, either.

Check out America's Test Kitchen, not long ago they had a program on making your own pizza in 30 minutes. If you have kids, that can save you a fortune, that is about the most expensive thing out there.

my grandmother made the most wonderful soup - from a soup bone and leftovers. She never threw away leftover veggies; they went into the freezer in little bags until needed.

That is another thing, cut back on the meat and up the veggies.

I do splurge on some things. I usually have canned chicken ready for cheater pot pie and frozen pie crusts. All 3 of my daughter-in-laws use that recipe now, great with leftover chicken or turkey, another thing to be frozen when left over.

If you do eat out, make it during the day when prices are down.

maybe I gave you one or two things anyway. Good luck.
Have you questioned the no sex rule?
?
Considering her face was broken multiple times by Ike Turner, a facelift is certainly excusable. nm
x
What's shocking is that a rule is needed.
Many here have acted like this is normal behavior and should be excused and there are reasons for it, etc.  Sure there are.........and there also many, many kids who do it to be obnoxious and so it has become a problem - like so many other things - but these parents continue to excuse their kids.
