volunteering
After she attends her vacation bible school, why not volunteer at the other churches VBS? Every church in our town has a VBS this summer. If one were inclined, they could attend all of them and their summer would be filled. She could volunteer with the little ones, work nursery, work in the kitchen. She would probably enjoy it and meet new kids and see ones from school that she otherwise would not see during the summer.
Summer vacation volunteering
My granddaughter is going into 6th grade. My daughter is at her wit's end to try to figure out ways to keep her entertained this summer vacation. My daughter has a home sewing and monogramming business, and while she can take short breaks, most of the time she needs to work whenever she can, obviously. My granddaughter just wants to go somewhere and shop or have someone over to spend the night, etc. -- all involve spending money! I'd like my granddaughter to get involved in something to learn how to do things for others, not just spend money. Any creative ideas on activities or volunteer agencies who would like an 11 year old? I've come up with Red Cross, Humane Shelter, hospital, or library. She is already going to go to one session of vacation bible school, but that's only 1 week. Part of the problem is, it's a small town and not too many summer programs without driving at least 25 miles to the larger city, or spending over $100/week for things like Y day camp or cheerleading camps, etc.
I would join a church or church group. SM
I'm sure you will find someone like yourself, who likes to do the things you do, whether friend is male or female.
I'm laughing, because I am not religious fanatic. I do go to place of worship, but believe me, not fanatical.
church, church, courthouse. Married the same man
all 3 times.
Well my church is a SB church in South Georgia
So maybe you're going to the wrong SB church!
We did not do parties except on special
occasion birthdays, normally just took the kids to see their grandparents as they did want to see them on their birthday. However, it is your tradition and if your in-laws do not want to participate leave it up to them. Invite them and they can choose what to do. Don't change your traditions because they don't "approve."
Birthday parties
My oldest daughter stopped having elaborate parties when she was 12. When she was 13 I took her and one friend to NYC to see a play, when she turned 14 I took her to a concert just the two of us, and this past year when she turned 15, we just had family and really good friends (4) and then I dropped them off at the movies. It just got too be too expensive. My youngest daughter has been having parties for her friends for the past few years (she's 5), but her birthday is in the summer, so we just have a pool party for her. On the other spectrum, I have a friend who lives across the street, and her two children have never had a birthday party (13 and 8) with anybody but their immediate family.
Imagination is when all parties know it's just a game.
If you were fine with finding out Santa was just a myth, fine, hopefully your kids will be the same. But don't have a cow just because some people aren't into the Santa thing. And I don't have kids, so you don't have to worry about my "poor kids." And it's not necessary to e-mail me to express your anger over my opinion.
Just another work day here. No parties, No BBQs. What

legal as long as both parties are 18+

My understanding is that both parties involved are black. nm

Birthday parties. What do ya'll do? I have a son turning 6 sm
and it's like we know everyone in the world! We are booking this place that can hold a lot of kids, so it's not like I'm paying by head count. He's turning 6, so I wasn't going to invite "girls" but ended up inviting both because I know that some parents would get their feelings hurt. Do you tend to do that? Like invite so and so because so and so knows so and so and if you don't invite so and so, so and so might get offended? LOL
I just sent out the invites and 5 families are invited who have kids that don't really play with my son but I know that if they "found out" we had a party and their kids weren't invited they would be hurt.....
Ahh, the trial and relationships of life! Okay, so why did I do it? Because I hate hurting people's feelings and I don't do it if it is in my power not to do it. So there.
Next door neighbor's teen having parties
I am sooo sick of the next door neighbors. It is a mom and 2 teenage daughters. They have been having a party going on 5 days now. Tons of cars over partially blocking our driveway, loud talking and laughter, underage drinking, throwing their litter (beer cans) onto our side of the yard...etc. I just want to sit out on my porch and not have a gang of teens a few feet away. What kind of mom lets this kind of thing go on and these kids (boys and girls) have spent the night every night. I am sick of it. I thought it would end with today being Monday and the holiday weekend being over. But they continue to hang out over there. I just want peace and quiet like it is usually here. What would you guys do? I would love to call the cops on them but have never done anything like that before. I just feel like this is ridiculous especially since we live in apartment homes and not houses so our duplexes are very close together.
I STILL Give my Kids B-day parties, my baby is 17!
Nothing elaborate, but I make them their favorite dinner, buy them a nice gift and have the rest of the family over. It is a nice time for everyone to get together and visit.
I could not imagine letting one of my childrens' birthdays go by uncelebrated.
I would tell my MIL that you are never going to stop giving your sons birthday parties but if she does not want to attend she is excused.
I wouldn't let her stop you from having that special day with you and your child.
You definitely need to do some research on her political views! nm

Although I don't know what's worse, the political banter or having to
;
I don't want to get all political, but Michelle Obama has been sm
quoted as saying, "for the first time in my adult life I am proud of my country."
This statement made me wince. I can't help but think of all of the GREAT wives of American Presidents who would never say such things about this great country we call home. For the first time in her adult life? What's so bad about this GREAT country that she isn't proud of?
I don't know. Is it just me or do others agree that we should have a First Lady in the White House who will stand behind her country through thick and thin? What's going to happen if in a year or two something else happens and she is no longer proud of this country? What kind of First Lady will she be then?
I think you should be president if you love America, born and raised in America, are Christian, and have solid convictions, and believe in the constitution.
Political correctness taken to the extreme.
The movie "Airplane" is on. Political correctness has gone way too far. The scene is the one where the pilot asked the little boy, Do you like gladiator movies? After that line the rest of the scene has been deleted. I dont need movie censors to restrict a comedy in the name of PC.
Ahh, that's why I don't visit political board.

I disagree with you, but...this IS a political post.
How could it be anything but?
it was about her shoes - not a political topic
I would just ignore it. Started off about fashion. You can't control what people are going to write about a certain topic. Sometimes the two can blend together. Since we're not talking bout the O I would just ignore it and write another post about something else.
Please use politics board for political topics. NM
Goldbird
I think she is hoping to help save his political career so (sm)
she tries to appear supportive - for future money for herself probably. To keep him from going completely down the tubes so he can support his children. Won't work in this case I'm sure though. But it also could be that they feel sorry for the guy...I mean not only does he have to deal with his betrayed wife, he has to face the entire country and lose his career. He's probably near suicidal. I would probably have to feel sorry for my husband if he were in those circumstances, just a a basic human compassion.
Does this post not belong on the political board?
NM
TAKE TO POLITICAL BOARD. All you want to do is fuss about Obama
It makes no difference to any fair minded person if he got the dog at the shelter, off the street, had him given to him. It just does not matter in the scheme of life. Go back to the other board. They may appreciate you there. This is the gab board and we are only talking about a little black and white doggie. You are not contributing anything we wish to hear.
Political and candidate topics go on Politics board.
Thanks.
NEVER do I watch shows where I know celebrities will try to further their political views
But then again, I do look at the pictures in the morning of their pretty dresses :)
adminstrator...can we have a religious political radical board until the election?...sm
so as not to disturb the rest of the flotsam and jetsam of the gab board? So far everyone has been reasonable... Cat
Thought I saw a post like yours on the political board regarding grape research
America cannot take care of all the needy in the world, even if they gave the "grape research" money to them. Keep off your soapbox because you are yelling. I know several who use the welfare system. I give to no one on the streets. I don't care what kind of sign they are holding up, will work for ..... I rescue animals and help our 4 legged friends. That is about as charitable as I get.
Global warming - faction, fiction, political, mountain or mole hill
Trying to get a handle on whether people have bought into the global warming thing.
Do you believe it whole-heartedly 100% Gore-ly, or do you believe the scientist who have been studying global warming/cooling.
Also, do you believe a lot of it is politically-oriented.
In a church
with a full catholic mass and I guess what you'd call a traditional receptionist.
In a church...sm
The same church where I was baptized and confirmed and where my kids were baptized and confirmed.
church school
Well, I didn't say the ONLY place to find teachers who care is at a church school, and I certainly don't believe that. I do think your chances of finding them in a church school are a whole lot higher, however. I didn't intend to create a religious argument either. I was genuinely interested in why you would not want your children in a church school.
UPDATE. Mom is at the church
I guess she heard me. LOL.
Get ready for the next battle over the baby. I would love to raise that baby myself. She is adorable.
You could always go through the motions and go to church
to please him. I do that with my family. I respect my family's religion, but I just don't believe in organized religion. If it is only important for him to have you in church and you don't mind, you can always try that. If his issue is that you have faith enough to be a Catholic, that will be a tough road.
Are you looking to hook up with your church guy?
If you REALLY want to leave, do it while he's at work. Call the police and have them assist you.
Yes, definitely!! Call him Church. (nm)

lol - you are 2 much, church lady!
LMAO
We grew up going to the same church
until we were about 11 or so. He moved and I didn't see him again until my senior year of school when he moved back into our home town. He looked me up and we started dating. We got married when I graduated high school and we will have been married for 36 years in June of this year. I was 19 and he was 21.
I live near this church
and heard on local news the pastor himself is having difficulty with it, whatever that means!
church is a coverup for sm
many of these guys. It still doesn't change the fact that he can and will hurt you! You haven't read about "church people" and pastors beating their wives or murdering their wives? What are you waiting for? My opinion? You do not want out. you say you wnat help but then don't listen. That is why you are in the situation you are in. What do you care what people at church say or if they are for him or you? IT DOES NOT MATTER! GET OUT AND WORRY ABOUT IT LATER!
if you ask a church for help they ask if you are a member
but limit funds to help the needy
At the church I used to attend --
they instituted a "reform program," whereby the associate pastor and elder members of the church agreed to take in single men who were recently paroled. They dressed up and brought them to church every week. They were introduced when they first came, but nothing was mentioned about their "crime life", etc.
My point is, to the newer church goers, these men seemed like perfectly respectable church-going men, all the while they weren't. Please keep this in mind.
I met my husband at church when sm
I was 16 years old and married at 18. I am now 54 and will be married 36 years in July!
Since the Catholic Church
is still firmly entrenched in the Dark Ages, it is no surprise. That poor child, but BRAVO to her parents.
Mine was about 2 yrs. ago in church
We were having communion, the grape juice was being past, as I went to pass it the tray hit the back of a seat in the row ahead of us . Cups , juice & the tray went flying . I sat there numb & couldn't move, I felt everyone staring at me . It all ended up on the carpet & a few upholstered seats ! One of them men serving got splattered, he was wearing a tan suit , I help so bad, felt like leaving . A young man cleaned up the mess & we went on with the service . The church has new carpeting & new seats now & I 'm really careful not to have this happen again .
As a member of a large church I am always around others. We have different sm
groups and we do dinner once a month, shopping once a week (if you can make if of course), movies once a month, etc. Then I attend a Bible study on Wednesdays with another large group of women and we will get together a lot and talk on the phone during the week, etc. This, along with my family, sister, in laws, etc., and I am far from being an introvert working at home doing MT. Been at it for 8 years.
To be honest, and don't take this the wrong way, but as an MT or anyone who works from home, you decide if you want friends, a social life, etc. We work 8 hour days or some of us work 4 hours. That leaves you lunch hour to get together with a friend or 2, after work for dinner, shopping, and a movie, and then weekends for a couple of hours. We all need balance. It is not healthy to be at home all day with no interaction whatsoever. You will begin to suffer if you continue living that way. Trust me, as a former depressed person who suffered from post-partum depression for 4 years (yes, you read that right!), I had to make a decision that I would not exclude myself from my friends and family, would make NEW friends while I was at it, and it has turned me into a very positive and fun person to be with.
I can't tell you how many parties I've hosted since coming out of my depression. My friends call me Rachel Ray with a mix of Paula Deen (I'm leaning more towards Paula), since I LOVE to decorate and entertain and be a blessing to others, ministering to them if I can, lend an ear or a hand if I can and have an "open" home where people can drop by if they need to talk about something. My life has been fantastic since overcoming depression.
I'm not saying all extroverts are depressed, but that was the reason for me.
Good luck.
Westboro Baptist Church. sm
Ladies there is a bunch called Westboro Baptist church that does this sickening protesting and they call themseves christian. They were the group that was going to show up up the Omish school house funerals. This is a "christian" organization. Hannity and Colmes let them come on FAUX and they agreed not to show up at Omish funerals.
no, she's not gonna hook up with church guy
nm
This guy has to get a clue. He isn't a pastor. He has no church. If he did sm
he'd have members. This guy thinks he's leading, but he's only taking a walk.
I kind of feel sorry for him, though. I am in the ministry. If the people don't support you, you have no ministry. This guy has no support. If he did he wouldn't have had to do what he did. He probably didn't bother telling anyone because these people aren't committed to attending his "church" anyway.
If it were me, I'd cut my losses, pray for him and move on. Don't call the police, just move on.
One of the biggest problems facing the church today is bitterness, resentment and unforgiveness between believers.
