Usually PPD onset is after 2-3 weeks of delivery. sm

I have had both OB and psychiatric nursing and the textbooks suggest that it tends to not be PPD unless it is 2-3 weeks after delivery, that is how long it takes the serotonin and dopamine levels to change for depression after birth. Sounds like she has a case of post partum blues (not same as depression) as well as a case of her child not being born with things according to her "ideal baby" that she had been anticipating for 9 months. Call her, stop by, research the medical issue and be there to listen and offer facts if she wants to talk about it. Otherwise, don't treat her different than you did pre-baby or you won't seem sincere.

I think it's all in the delivery --
start with your parents first (i'm assuming their still with you). They're usually the most understanding of these situations. Explain that you're simply strapped for cash, but would love to have everyone come together at your place for dinner. Suggest to your parents (if they're on board with you) that the others want to exchange gifts, they can meet at someone else's place later for that. I don't see anything wrong with it as long as everyone knows up front that you're not exchanging gifts.
How much do you tip the pizza delivery guy?
I usually give them 3 or 4 dollars.
But I got to thinking with the cost of gas, maybe that's not enough? Don't they usually pay for their own gas?
How much do you tip?
If you get Chinese food delivery, use the
I save every packet of sauces from my Chinese food delivery. Whether I'm cooking bar-b-q (ribs, chicken, pork chops, etc), or baking whatever or grilling, broiling, or boiling, I can usually throw together something from those packets depending on what flavoring I want to achieve. My dad taught me not to look at recipes, but just to think about how flavors work together and trust your guts. That doesn't work for everyone, but I've made some delicious dinners when I didn't have any other seasonings in the house but those Chinese food packets :) Try to remember to balance out a sweet with a sour (or salty) flavor. I remember how I was horrified when he put cinnamin in a pot roast once, but it was the best roast I ever had. He had been doing it for years...he just hid it from me. Once I knew he used it, I enjoyed it more than I ever had!
Does anyone ever use Schwan't food delivery?
My neighbor uses it every week. She works as a nurse but does like to 18hr shifts twice a week. She has 9yr old twins, a 4yr old, and an 18mo old. She home schools her children. He DH works for the railroad.
I am just curious if it really is a benefit and worth the money. Maybe for that size family it is more practical for them but maybe not for a smaller family. Is the food ready made and frozen, how much work is there in fixing a meal, etc.
Anyone familar with this? Just wondering!
I wish I MADE as much as a pizza delivery guy

Perineal massages are done during delivery sm
most of the time if the doc is willing to take the time to do them. Do NOT ask for an episiotomy. I had 3 degree laceration from it with a 6 lb 5 oz child and still have tenderness in that spot today from 17 years ago, which interfers with relations.
To tear or not to tear depends on a lot. Depends on your control, the nurses hollering for you to "push" with all your might, which makes you tear, the doc's techniques, and how healthy your body tissues are. If you are a smoker, your tissues will tear more easily as they will if you are unhealthy and don't take care of yourself. Your body is what you put into it. Our tissues are made to stretch and if given the time to do so, it will. I have personally delivered over 200+ babies as a midwife and have performed an episiotomy ONCE in 200+ deliveries. By control, I mean when that "ring of fire/burning" hits, the cause of that is your skin stretching. This is when you want to go slow and easy with the pushing and allow it time to stretch (of course provided baby is stable with heart tones/color, doc's call). Look at it like this...if you take a water balloon and try to push it through a paper towel roll by shoving it in there, it will eventually break and bust due to pressure. If you work the balloon through the roll, it will go through there without busting or breaking. It just takes time to adapt to the shape/figure to fit through it. Your baby is the same way coming through your vaginal opening. Allow it time to mold the baby's head and stretch your skin around the baby's head and you will not tear nor need an epiostomy and I don't care how big the baby is.
Good luck to you and educate yourself ~ that is the key to any successful delivery. Email me if you wish.
Although I am a fan of not having epidurals, leave that option open. If you get to a rough spot and want it, get it. If you are handling labor well, keep on trucking without it. The hardest part of labor and most intolerable is the 2nd stage, which is the shortest stage, and means it will all be over soon. Get your body active if they will let you and you will be able to tolerate pain much easier than lying in a bed thinking of nothing but the pain. It is more of a mind control thing. Anyone can do it if they put their minds to it and want it bad enough.
pizza delivery tipping question
Hi all: I've recently noticed that a prominent pizza chain that begins with a D has started charging me a 1.50 delivery charge. I normally tip the delivery guy anywhere between 3 and 6 depending on amount of order, weather conditions, etc. I'm wondering who this 1.50 goes to and why are they charging me 1.50. If goes to the delivery guy, great, more power to him.
Also, do you tip higher on Superbowl Sunday? Just curious. TIA
An instrumental delivery makes an episiotomy necessary..sm
Did you have to 'ask' for it?
Pizza for us too (delivery) - my cuboards are bare
Been bare all week. Tired of meals consisting of popcorn, potato chips, or buttered rice (nothing else, just buttered rice), and other "non-meal" items.
Glad the weekend is here to do grocery shopping.
I'd pay extra for shipping at this point if they can guarantee delivery. nm

On our takeout Chinese restaurant menu - We delivery! lol

You must live in a high pizza delivery paying
area that they get $7-8/hr. Most make minimum, if that, but keep their tips. Oh, add in gas to save you the trip of lugging it home yourself, then yes $2 is insulting.
Most places guarantee delivery by the 24th if ordered by the 22nd. EAsy.

It has only been two weeks, it will get better.
Maybe do more fun things with your kids, as they're probably upset right now too. You are lucky to have them and four is a blessing. And for yourself, how about joining a bowling league, a gym, or taking a craft or cooking class etc....just something to occupy your time and meet other adults and new friends. You may even meet others in the same situation and that always helps. And always remember how much better your kids lives will be in the long run being out of that kind of situation. That may help you to not be tempted to take your husband back because you are lonely, because that does happen and it's understandable. It's a long time to be with someone. Best of luck to you.
Yes, used now for over 3 weeks and
think it smells good, other than that I have not seen any change at all in the hair situation, still falling out.....
Only used them for about 1-2 weeks when they - sm
were newborns. Personally I don't think they should be used for long at all or they become dependent on them (tops 2-3 months when newborn). I know someone who has a 3-y/o who walks about with one in his mouth 24/7; can't understand him at all even when he does take it out of his mouth to talk, major speech issues I think because of it. I feel bad for him, angry with her for being lazy and not trying to get him to transfer his need for a security object to something less destructive. One of mines has a doll and blanket that are her security things, and the other and old teething toy that is a cat from Right Start with all the rubber "feet" cut off, still sleeps with it at 8, both are well-behaved and mentally developed kids with no issues of any sort.
I used to get one every 2 weeks...
I just called a local service and had 2 sisters come every other Friday. We paid them $75 plus $10 tip. We just now cancelled the service and decided to put that money in our savings account and do the cleaning ourselves:-) We had to get the house totally cleaned up anyway the night before, which was pretty stressful. It was good, though, for the year we did it. They brought their own equipment and dusted and cleaned the whole house except for the basement. We'll use them for parties like the one we're having this month, but that's it. Just check your local paper and call a few. Ask questions to see if they fit your needs. You can have them come every day if you want, once a week, every 2 weeks, or once a month, whatever you need. Good luck!
I have someone come every two weeks
She does basic cleaning - dusting, vacuuming, mopping, cleaning bathrooms. I pay her $75 each time. She has basically a one-woman business that she is just getting started up. I found her listing in the local newspaper and lucked out, because she is a really super lady and I enjoy having her here to talk to, since my husband and I are "empty-nesters" and I am home alone working all day.
As far as what you should pay, I think the area where you live and the cost of living needs to be taken into consideration. I would expect to pay someone in New York City or Los Angeles more than I would pay someone in a small Midwest town, for example.
Just my two cents.
I go to one every 3-4 weeks - sm
and when I was looking for one I asked a friend who went to one on a regular basis. As stated below there are the rip-off ones who do all this fancy garbage that does absolutely nothing. My friend said to go to a "straight" chiropractor (no clue what that means, guess it is how they practice, and one that graduated from Palmer school of Chiropracty (Sp?), pretty sure it was Palmer, if I am wrong I will post a correction. Mine is very reasonable, $45 a visit (my insurance covers it 100%). I too started out 2-3 x a week, then tapered down to 1 a week, then every 2 weeks, and now do every 3-4 weeks. I have not been for about 8 weeks now because I hurt my shoulder but it is all better now so I will probably start going again. It feels great to get the back cracked, gets so tight from sitting here all the time.
I think just a few weeks at most ... sm
I don't intend to keep the car for long. Last night we had decided until the end of the semester. After talking with it I am waffling about taking it at all. I am sure he will have it back by Thanksgiving. Thank you.
I had a bag of those a few weeks ago (sm)
My dogs finished them. So far so good. So then I bought the name brand ones this weekend at Sam's. $12.00. Evidently they are not the ones recalled, but I went and looked at the bag, and it says, "Made in China", so out they go. I can't believe I forgot to look - lately I have been looking at everything. Even if it's made in US, I'm usually afraid because of the wheat gluten, etc, that is imported. Good luck with your dog. Hope he is okay.
Just ate there 2 weeks ago - sm
WONDERFUL!!!!! This is the third Emeril's we have eaten at. We ate at one in New Orleans and one in Atlanta and now the one in Gulfport (used to live in Biloxi, so we are trying to support their rebounding economy). We always eat 4 courses and are never disappointed. ENJOY! Worth every penny!
3-1/2 weeks!
That sounds like a wonderful vacation. . I'm taking off a few days too and I'm really looking forward to it.. Hope you have a great time!
2 weeks
as it sounds like routine blood work. If no call by the 23rd I would call the office and leave a message and then you will probably hear back on that Monday.
2 weeks?
I just had bloodwork last Thursday and I got the results on Monday. I guess it just depends on the physician/lab. They used Quest Diagnostics.
I am 43....just, B-day was about 3 weeks ago- sm
My DH is 6.5 years older than I am and dying to retire. He keeps telling me at 55 he is done. He will then go out and get a PT job somewhere, probably at $7.50 an hour, just to stay active and bring in some money. I want him to keep working until he is 62 at least then one kid is done college anyway, and we will be able to sock away quite a bit in the 7 years that we have no mortgage and have for mad money, home improvements, save for kid's weddings (they are going to get 10K each and that will be it--can do what they wish with it, but that is the gift--not going to be one of those nutty parents who blow $25K on their kid's wedding--I did it for 5K, everything including honeymoon in 1996, so can they). But in 5 years the house will be paid off (2013), as well as our loan to pay off his debt. I may or may not be done with mine at that time. So there is a goal and it will be nice to be out of debt then, though our monthly expenses now, mortgage, food, utilities, college funds, etc. come to $3400 a month---luckily combined bring in about $4300 a month currently. I go for testing on the 15th for an administrative asst. position for a neighboring county sheriff. Want the job but on the other hand don't want to change my current schedule, etc. But it would be nice to have a nice steady paycheck coming in.
I go about every 3 weeks when I can - sm
I did not go for like six months and just went about 3 weeks ago. I just go when I have a little spare time anymore which is not too often. I went initially because of a car accident, very stiff neck and shoulders, went once a week, then every two weeks, now when I feel like it. Since I had not gone for a while my spine was sore for a day or two, but it does make me feel better as I get so stiff sitting here working 6-10 hours a day. Need to start exercising too, I am sure that will help too. As for dissing chiropractors there are good and bad, there are the ones who rape you with all the different machines they put you on (been to one of them, racked up $800 in 3 days), or those (as a friend swears to) are called "straight" chiropractors who attended Palmer Chiropractic school, who don't stick it to you. My visit is $45, lasts 10-15 mins, and my insurance pays for the it, no co-pay for some reason. She ends up with $36 in the end and I do not have to pay the difference. But just tell him you will be starting to come in once a month or so from now on, what is he going to do, tell you to go somewhere else as the is unacceptable to him?
He will be in about two weeks (sm)
I am going through with the separation and in fact have signed a six month lease and paid a deposit and first month's rent, so no turning back now! Thank you for your encouragement the other day and everyone else too. I do know that what he did was wrong, I was just having some grief over the "dream" I had coming to an end. I went to a board on cafemom and talked to some others who have been in abusive relationships. Apparently it is very normal for anyone divorcing to feel grief and doubt, but from what I hear, I will be feeling much happier once I am out and away from the relationship. Thanks for checking on me :)
Usually I would think about 1-2 weeks,
especially if they sent them out. What did your doctor say about calling for the results?
I just had this 2 weeks ago... (sm)
It's called pyelonephritis, and yes, you need to go to the ER. If you can't take Levaquin, they might know of something else, but still.
I'm taking something that decreases my immunity (according to the ER doc - I had never known that about Plaquenil before), and I didn't go through the high fevers, but it seemed more like it was because my body couldn't fight back with a fever. It actually made sense when the ER doc explained it, which is totally weird because the ER doc was a jerk otherwise.
Anyway, I hope you feel better VERY soon!
I told everyone at 6 weeks...
then waited to tell son when we had first ultrasound...
Ultrasound at 7 weeks?
Ack - I didn't realize docs were doing these so soon. There are so many variables in pregancies (and children) that I wouldn't be too concerned. But, after all the ultrasound horror stories that I have heard over the years, we skipped ultrasounds with both of our children. I had normal pregnancies and there was no reason to have one.
I measured completely different with both of my children through my pregnancies and with good reason, the first was 10 pounds 4 ounces, the second was 7 pounds 14 ounces.
I hope everything is fine, please let us know.
It is probably that engineer from a few weeks ago
the one that wanted extra cash because she could "type good." LOL
I started WW 4 weeks ago...
I actually NEVER cook. My kids are picky eaters, and they both are picky about different things, so we eat mostly TV dinners.
With WW, you can eat anything. You calculate "points" based on calories, fiber, and fat grams. You get a certain amount of points each day based on your weight. You also get 35 cheat points per week. If you are still hungry, you can earn points by exercising.
In 4 weeks, I've lost 6.6 pounds and I haven't felt like I was dieting even once. I wish I would have done their program years ago.
If you do cook, you can go on their website and use E-Tools to calculate points. You can enter your own recipe into the online calculator, and it will tell you how many points it is.
Right now they have a special where you don't have to pay the initial start-up fee and you get free E-Tools for $40 a month. That's what I'm doing now, and I plan to stay at it until I lose all the weight.
Good luck with whichever program you decide.
I have a maid come in every two weeks sm
She has her own business. I just lucked out - she advertised in the paper, I talked to her on the phone and then she came over and gave me an estimate and she seemed like a very nice, responsible person. She has been cleaning for me for about three months now and she does a great job and is indeed a very nice person.
I have a two-bedroom, two-bath house that is about 1800 square feet and I pay her $75 each time she cleans.
How much exercise have you had in the last 3 weeks?
The kind of exercise where your rib cage actually has to expand as far as it can go?
That kind of exercise causes relaxation, and relaxation is an antidote for anxiety attacks.
I was also helped by learning relaxation with biofeedback and I also take Effexor. Not everybody can take that though.
It's only been on the market 2 weeks
nm
Or eat the 2 weeks and get professional from here.

I definitely needed him a few weeks ago.
Definitely HOT. What did you think of the season finale?
For the last two weeks I have been listening
to Christmas music in my car. Don't know why, but I was in the mood for some Manheim Steamroller, even if it is a little early in the year. I have to say that when I listen to the Hallelujah Chorus on this particular CD it makes everything that is wrong in my life seem so insignificant. I love this group's music. It just makes you happy.
Merry Christmas, a little early!
I think about 6 weeks is the norm sm
My first and last both wear able to newborn size about 6 weeks. I probably would have upped their size sooner had I not had so many newborn diapers. They were both about 7 pounds at birth. My second child was 8 pounds 6 ounces and didn't wear newborns for more than a week.
I would definitely get the size 1 instead of the newborn. Of course, you could always call the new mom or maybe the grandmom and ask. But I agree that it's better to go up a size and have to wait a week or 2 to wear them than to get the wrong size and not be able to use them.
yeah i second that. it has taken 2 weeks for me
to get video games for my kids before. The holidays will make it take longer too!!
bloated after 12 weeks...
I got bloated somewhere around the end of the first trimester/beginning of second trimester. My pants hurt me sooo bad. I got some really uncomfortable stomach pains because of it. I finally had to break down and buy a couple of pairs of maternity pants. I was far enough along that I knew it was going to happen (buying pants) at some point in the next couple of months and it did not matter. Comfort is #1 in pregnancy, and if you want a pair of pants you can go out in and not feel embarrassed about, get some prego pants. I still wear those pants I first bought in my third trimester.
Really odd. I had a cold about 3 weeks ago and got another one now and a lot of
other people are having the same problem. This is very unusual for me to have this happen. Not much fun! I really dont get around many people at all so I have no idea where they are coming from.
I'm currently 8 weeks preggers
with my second child. I don't recall having major swelling problems with my first pregnancy. I would suggest laying off any and all salt and taking it easy and keeping those feet propped up until you deliver your baby girl! Congrats, BTW.
Mom has been in hospital for 2 weeks.
she went in with breathing problems, but the longer she was there the more issues came up. She apparent came down with C. diff. They started coming in with the yellow suits, for infectious disease precautions. She finally asked why, and the nurse said according to her chart she had a history or MRSA with open wounds. I said WHAT. The last problem she had with a wound was in 1987 with gallbladder surgery when she had a bile leak and some wound dehiscence. MRSA was not even around then. She has never been told anything about MRSA.
My question is: Should I confront them and ask when this was diagnosed, and what the circumstances were. I am wondering if this is another example of OFFSHORING records where mistakes were made. I mean really, if this is an error I feel it should be corrected, and if not, why was she never told this?
10 weeks of summer
We have always scheduled 5 weeks of the summer for the kids and they get to choose 5 weeks for themselves. I guess we are the weird ones...
I'm pregnant - 5 weeks along, 1st pregnancy....sm
My husband & I are thrilled that we conceived so quickly, especially with my being 43 and him being 50. We got married in June and started trying then. His 15-year-old daughter and our 6-year-old foster daughter are excited. Next year will be fabulous as we'll be finalizing the adoption of our foster daughter in January and having a baby in June!
Ihaven't had a *Friday* in 3 weeks!
going back a couple weeks....
anyone remember when - forget his name - sang * geek in the pink * ? I LOVED THAT....have downloaded the original to my iPod BUT he dedicated it to his grandma and after he sang it, Paula asked him if his grandma would know what geek in the pink means and he just shrugged.
Can someone tell me what * geek in the pink * means? I am over 50, have asked my youngest, who is 25 years old, and she did not know. Figured SOMEone here could clue me in before I go around the neighborhood jogging and singing it out loud!!
TIA Idol Fans!!
PS - I also downloaded the Jamiroquai song the other guy sang. Those were the two BEST renditions, just love those guys.
If you are leaving for 3 weeks, take them to a kennel and sm
pay for daily care. They need more than food and water, they need attention and loving and daily petting, and exercise. Bless you for taking them on, but don't desert them now.
