Use a blow dryer

Posted By: mtqueenB on 2007-05-17
In Reply to: Anyone have any ideas on how to clean artificial plants, flowers? - Nancee

I put the hair dryer on cool and "dust" the artificial flower arrangements with it. Takes just a few seconds and if you do it every week or so, you never have to wash them.

Otherwise, I would dip them in a sink of Woolite or similar cold water wash. Some people put them in a sack filled with salt and shake it, because the salt is abrasive enough to get rid of the dirt but not hurt the arrangement.

Blow dryer
My daughter had lice once and with really thick hair it took me a long-time to get rid of it, until a doctor gave me a RX that we had to let set for 1 hour, then take the blow dryer outside and dry hair for an hour or longer.  the heat from the blow dryer and the medicine finally killed them all within 2 days.
She should BLOW IT OFF sm
However, men who are out of work have some strange ideas and thoughts. They seem to get miserly on one hand and spend thrifts on the other. I am not sure that most men *get* the whole money thing away.

I had a friend whose DH was out of work. They had usually had a gas station automatic car wash about every 2 weeks. In the interest of money, she gave this up, but he stepped up his washing to weekly. What is the big deal? It was $5 a pop. She was ever worried about every dime and he was saying what is $5. He would decide that $20 was okay to go spend having beer with his band members (he always played with a rock band after work), but would get after her for buying the kids $1 hamburgers at the Golden Arches. It became petty arguments over every minute money issue.

I think that men and women view money very differently and Suzie Ormand agrees. She says that women can't deal with anything they don't have a relationship with, and most of have a dysfunctional relationship with money. Umm this is a man who does too.

I keep thinking SOME PEOPLE, but I have had a husband out of work who felt that while being out of work with no unemployment that it was the perfect time to start shopping for the house and bought an area rug and lamps for the living room he never used, and that expense didn't change a thing.
blow by blow!
that's rich.

You might think that just because you don't give the details they shouldn't be inferred, but as soon as the words leave your mouth they can have all kinds of effects. Me personally? Like I said above, when someone says "conceived," they mean, among other things, "That's the moment we were doing the do." Exactly what I don't want: a hole drilled in my head & the image of some faceless couple's flesh slapping together, complete with sound effects, inserted into my brain like something out of Brave New World.

I don't plan this. It's like "don't think about pink elephants."

I'm telling you, it's Too Much Information. Everyone who knows how old your kids are can do the math without having to visit the scene of the crime.
I don't even own a dryer...sm
and have not had one for about five years since it broke.  I hang my clothes outside in the summer and in the basement in front of a wood stove in the winter.  Surprisingly, I don't miss my dryer at all.  Tacky?  It doesn't bother me!  And my clothes last forever (maybe too long).  LOL.
What a blow. I have filed BK before, but sm
I never had any money in the bank they could freeze.  BK puts a stop to just about everything people are trying to get from you.  Mortgages, rentals, all of that.  It stops.  Call your bank and keep asking if they have the case number, or make your attorney do it.  The minute they get the BK case number, they should unfreeze your funds.   It doesn't have to take a week, if someone is on top of it.  If your attorney has a case number now, call then bank and give it to them.

Dryer balls
They really work. I just use a very minimal amount of fabric softener to kill the suds in the rinse cycle.

No offense, but the dryer sheet story kind of sounds like an urban myth.
Maybe dryer sheets between the
pages? That's a lot of dryer sheets.

When I was recently car shopping, looking at used cars, there was only one I sat in and instantly got out of due to that smell. They should Febreze a car before they show it to prospective buyers.
Hair Dryer
I have never tried this myself, but I have read that if you use a hair dryer on a low setting, about 6 to 8 inches from the ear, for about 10 to 15 minutes, it may make the earache better.

Hope this helps and your little one is feeling better soon!
Wow, my dryer is about 20 years old I think- sm
came with house (1998), house built in 1988, would have to go digging through the receipts they left us but it is at least 12 or more years old I am sure. Extra large capacity Whirlpool washer and dryer, love them but I am sure expensive to run. Our electric was $80 when we first moved here and I hung the clothes out all the time in the summer and that was with the AC too. But that was before 2 kids and 5-6 loads a week too. If I could shave $50 a month off I'd be very happy, going to try to. I run the dryer way too much though, dry the clothes forget to get them out, run it for 15 mins to get all the wrinkles out, etc. Sometimes do that 2 or 3 times as I tend to forget about them in the dryer, even with the buzzer.
My dryer is around 15 years old.

It won't let me forget the clothes. It buzzes, then runs a couple seconds, then buzzes again. It keeps it up until I finally take the clothes out. Can get aggravating when I'm up to my elbows in something else.

I forget about the washer though.

i have already addressed this. they blow those comments off
this was a TEACHER.
Blow them off, change your *name*, and carry on!
;)
Bummer the pictures don't blow up more.

I'd love to see all the little details on them...must be just amazing to look at.  I sure do love sparkly things!

I think I've seen replicas for sale, like on QVC or even E-Bay if you ever wanted to start collecting.  Have no clue how much even fake stuff would go for.  Even if they're just covered in crystals, I'll bet they're still expensive.  I've always wanted to collect those silly little crystal animals and things you see in Hallmark stores.  Oh the way they catch those lights!  I visited a Swarovsky crystal place in some mall once and I was just mesmorized....oh the sparklies!

We got a FREE gas dryer off Craigslist (sm)
My husband looks at it regularly. These people were giving away a working gas dryer, all he had to do was meet them to pick it up. That was a year ago and we're still using it! I have a friend who got a free doghouse off Craigslist. You really can get great deals.
bounce dryer sheets?
But, I don't know what it does to the paint...maybe someone else will chime in or maybe Google will have the answer :o)
Clothesline versus dryer -- sm

Do you really save that much on the electric bill by hanging out your clothes?

DH doesn't think so, but I'm inclined to disagree with him.  If you do save on your electric bill, how much?

Ok, probably animal lovers might blow a gasket but
I have 3 cats. When I got the younger cats they were swimming in fleas. I would say they were maybe 6-8 months old. I visited the vet, got the medicine they have as in your posts and it just was not working. The cats were scratching themselves to death. While at the vet place 1 of the ladies told me if I got fleas in my carpet I could use Borax washing powder. A light went off in my head. I thought if I can use on the carpet, why not the cats? I was very careful about protecting their eyes but tried it and my golly, the fleas died almost instantly and they have not been bothered since then. They are now over 2 years old, brothers from the same litter. This was the most effective thing I had ever tried including all the flea remedies they have at the vets and pet stores.
Strike up the band, blow up the balloons!
Ready to celebrate. I wrote here some time ago about a problem with a CPA cousin. My father died and he put in writing and also told the people where he worked any money coming from there should come to me. When I got the money it had to be made out to estate of .......My cousin who supposedly was taking care of my father's last bill, etc. told me I could not cash the checks (duh) and to send to him for putting in estate money. I asked him to pay off father's last owed bill out of the money (he never did this 3 years ago now) and did not probate my father's will (said not enough there left after most all spent). I wrote a letter to cousin finally last year and said I wanted this back, next of kin, basically belonged to me. Ignored, another letter, ignored and finally asked on here who to contact for the head of CPAs and a person told me. Thanks to you, contacted the officials and after giving my cousin a deadline  and telling him I had contacted the people over him, he finally sent me a check on the very last day of the deadline I gave him!! Now I wonder with him doing family like this, who else has he jipped?
No washer/dryer at my apt. building, and laundromat
it's far away & I'd have to burn valuable gasoline to drive there. Thank goodness I work at home and can wear clothing for several days before washing. I wash them in the bathtub and hang them on the fence to dry.
I have an older dryer (10 yrs) and dry about 4 loads a week sm
(small family). Last summer I began drying 3 out of 4 on the line. My electric bill dropped by half, from about $75 or 80 per month to around 40. (Small house, small utilities.)

I'll take outside clothes line any day over dryer

I've been beggin hubby to put a clothes line in since the 80s. The natural air drying  smell is nothing to be compared with an inside dryer. Alas, he doesn't see my point. He thinks I don't have time to hang clothes out....but I did in the 70s and now there's only 2 of us. Once and done, not 3 loads in the dryer.

Downey fabric softener should help with the stiffness? I wouldn't know since I have to use a dryer, and even DH likes rough towels, not soft,  so why does he complain about outside lines? Don't ask me ....oh, wiat! Could it be because I pay the utilities? LOL

And don't throw her a ball, because if she misses and it hits her guns, they may blow!
