Anyone in the Houston area? sm
I've been wanting to share this story with you guys for a while now, but just haven't. Anyways, as a mom with young boys, this breaks my heart. A local 15 year old boy was diagnosed on June 1 with a brain stem glioma. He is the son of a local pastor and their family is just precious. They are believing that their son will be healed, but he's got such a long road. He's undergoing experimental treatment in Houston (they just arrived tonight) and will be there for 3 weeks. Insurance won't cover this since it's experimental. He was such a lively young boy before all of this. Anyways, if you are in Houston I'd love to chat with you - maybe if you belong to a large church or something like that - you could help me in some way. Thanks!
I moved coast to coast...sm
First, your niece is adorable! Can't blame you for wanting to be near her.
I moved from New Jersey to Seattle when I was 29. Knew absolutely no one. Friends/family asked me what I would do if I didn't like it, and I reminded them that I was not in exile; I could come home at any time. Still in Seattle, no regrets, visit family/friends almost yearly. Mom and sister eventually moved out here. Definitely do your homework. If possible, visit the area you plan on moving to, check out apartments/homes, the environment. If you have a lot of stuff, check into location/prices of storage. I had visited Seattle about a year before moving, talked to a few apartment managers to explain my out-of-state status and protocol for securing an apartment by phone when the time came, then eventually bought a house. At that time, I was not an MT, so worked for Kelly Temps for a few months. Again, my mantra--you are not in exile; you can go home if it does not work out. By moving to Seattle, I never have to ask, what would have happened if I had moved to Seattle? Best wishes, whatever you choose to do.

Has anyone had upper arm lifts?
I had mine done before and apparently it must have been his first, did not turn out well, thinking about redoing. Tell me how yours turned out, satisfied?
my mom was UPPER class and did same to Pop
they loved doing that zit-picking thing........*lol* - not me.....hot compresses will do very nicely....they can pop on their own....
but you're not alone - and it's not low class as the poster below said...in their opinion.....
but it is GROSS........YUCHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH *lol*
nice to see ya back, Hayseed.......I see that piggy of yours on your webcam occasionally!!
We live in Houston and
I searched at www.har.com for the house we ended up buying.
When we were looking to move to Florida though, which didn't work out, I put the city and state name in Google and searched by what came up first and just went down the list. Assuming you don't live in Houston, does the city/state have a site they list homes in that people more often use? Other than that, see what comes up first when searching for homes on google in your area. Just a thought. This was our first house, so I'm not really experienced in all that, but thought I would offer you my opinion by what I did.
Good luck selling! :)
Root toucher upper, have you ever
used any of the men's products for a touchup? I use them (my hubby got it for me 1 time). It is like instant instead of having to wait the 25 or more minutes ladies have to with the products put out for us. I put mine on, ready to take off!
With it just being the upper limits of abnormal...sm
I wouldn't worry too much. Of course I would watch it. You should get one of those meters to check it at home. I don't know what to tell you about the insurance situation. That sucks.
I have lymphedema in left upper extremity.
I can't ever wear rings on my left hand again, and as I'm right-handed, I don't like having rings on my right hand. I tried wearing my band around my neck on a chain. I have an absolutely plain gold band. It turned out not to be so attractive, plus I received a lot of comments about being the Frodo from Lord of the Rings.
Basically, I can offer no advice. I just got used to not wearing my wedding band. Regardless of whether or not I can wear the ring, I still have my husband!
Swine flu death in Houston. That's
too close for comfort for me. I'm not far from Houston. It's getting scary now. They're saying it may fizzle out & emerge stronger in the fall like the flu of 1918 did. Yikes!
I'm getting ready to buy a fixer upper and do all my decorating and designing myself. SM
So I've been watching him and a lot of the other HGTV design shows, etc. I want to save money, but I want everything too look expensive, ya know?
I loved what he did with the silk too, but problem is I don't sew. I don't even know how to operate a sewing machine, soooooooo anybody wanna make a buck? :)
I've lived in Houston my whole life and I
love it. I like living in the city, although we actually live in the burbs, but close enough! I've never been to NY, but really want to go myself.
On the main Craigslist page, look at the upper left-hand - sm
side of the page under the word "Craigslist". It should say "Post to Classifieds". Click on that, and it will take you to a "Create Posting" page. Click on the type of posting you want, and it'll take you to a category list. Click on your choice, and the next page asks you to pick your city. After that, you're asked which local area(s) fit best. You will finall be at the space where you fill in the ad itself.
Hope that helped! I've given away furniture & an old PC on Craigslist...I LOVE Craigslist!
Do you hide it? I did this in Houston last summer at a very nice restaurant sm
and someone knocked out the lock on the passenger side with a hammer or something (dented above the door handle) and took my Dooney & Bourke purse my mom got me as a gift. I LOVED that purse. But here's the good news. The only thing they got was my bag and a bunch of make up because I had my wallet with me!
99-cent stores in Houston sell milk....
any fat content, 2 gallons for $3. Might be worth a shot if making cheese, though I don't know what the yield would be when converting liquid to solid. Sure beats the $4+ per pound price of cheese in the grocery store.
News says was young child brought TO Houston

My biggest time waster/sucker-upper is work related
If I need to research a word or a procedure and I find a link with downloadable free surgical videos...watch out! Fascinating stuff and man, you learn a lot when you watch them and it's accompanied by the surgeon talking the watcher through step by step, because then it really gels in your head.
I do most of my shopping on line though, just because the only stores near me are Walmart and Target, which totally don't buy stuff I need around here. However, sister wouldn't get paid if I did it during work hours, because I spend too much time researching the best deals and always free shipping, so that can take up quite a bit of time.
Gotta love duct tape! America's fixer upper, LOL!

That gargling, bargling "I WILL ALWAYS LUVVVVV YOUUUUUU" by Crackhead Whitney Houston. sm
ugh. That song makes me SHUDDER.
Exactly what is happening further up the coast
never been hit but could be and so insurance companies hightailing it. Where I live tornados (hurricaines on land) come through occasionally and I am sooo scared of these as sure most others are. I used to live on the coast on St Simons Island, hated it, but do not care for either situation as far as weather is concerned.
East Coast 11:30 a.m. and
It's a rainy, gloomy day, and I'm still in my jammies!
I love this job!
near the coast myself, used to love
taking the kids down there. You probably don't have jelly fish that far north, but take a small bottle of meat tenderizer in case of stings. Familiarize yourself and the kids with flags and what they mean. Undertow is a big deal, never try to swim straight back in, let the current carry you until you can get past it and then swim in. Then again, you can get far away from each other without even noticing, so look out for that. I can almost smell the beach just reading your note. I hope you have a wonderful time. Sunscreen, of course, bucket to rinse off sand from feet and legs before getting back in the car. Been too long since mine were that size.
MS, on the coast. It's still pretty bad here 18 mos. after Katrina.
And just for an added kick in the gut, after the storm our hospital gave our jobs to MQ.
Why can't the east coast people
talk about Idol as long as they state posting about Idol results and those on the West Coast should not read if they do not want to know the results.
I think only fair as some of us east coasters might want to discuss it as it happens.
Just a thought.
In VA about 2 hours from the coast, after the last hurricane - sm
in 2003 (also due to 9-11 though) ours jumped from $400 to 650; which compared to those of you in FL is nothing obviously but at the time it seemed quite large. Our car insurance is still quite low though about $400 a year for each of our 2 trucks.
Gulf Coast people
BE SAFE. Praying Ike doesn't do as much damage as sounds like they are expecting. I have kids and grandkids there and they're planning to ride it out.
West coast is all expensive...
So you settled back at home, 13K! WOW I would never settle back in Cali... like you said it's way too expensive and the wages (at least what i make) definitely don't keep up with the cost of living. I have found in the South the living is sooooo much more affordable, but then I have to think of the pros and cons like the weather (never been in a hurricane, they kinda scare me)... but the people are absolutely wonderful! at least everyone I have encountered was so nice and polite, again nothing like the west coast. I just visited Atlanta when I was in NC two weeks ago and fell in LOVE with it. However, it's a bit big for me but I am curious to know more about it... just as an option. Do you mind if I email you directly? Thanks again for your insight!
34 right now, central Oregon coast range....
20 miles inland from the Pacific Ocean. May get up to 47 today, woo hoo!
Gulf Coast Summer Vacation??
Hi! My DH and I are looking for ideas on a good place to stay for a Gulf Coast vacation. We usually rent a beach house every summer in the Outer Banks (North Carolina), but want to try the Gulf area this year. We've looked at renting a beach house in Florida, but it's really expensive and would really appreciate somewhere not so expensive. We've never been to the Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana or Texas coasts and are hoping someone on this lovely board has a personal experience with vacationing in one of these areas. We're going with a bunch of my family (including kids), so we want somewhere that is family friendly and safe. Thanks for any help!
Gulf Coast Summer Vacation
Might want to look into Gulf Shores Alabama, my family has been going there every year for the past 30 to 35 years and Gulf State Park offers either camping or cabins.
Best places to visit on the East coast
In June, my husband and I will be attending the HD Bike Week in Laconia, New Hampshire. If you had to name just two or three places that everyone should see on the East coast {Washington, DC, Maryland, Virginia, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, etc. down to North Carolina} what would they be? We will be visiting Maine - that is already on the agenda. We plan to visit Arlington National Cemetary and the Capitol. We have been on the Freedom Walk in Boston.
We have not determined how much time we will be spending on the East coast. Please just name the places you think we should visit if time wasn't a concern.
Thank you very much for your time, assistance, and input. I appreciate this very much!
I live on the East Coast where this is extremely common
for "older" women to be having babies. As long as you're healthy, I don't see it should be a problem. I was WAY too young when I had my daughter (19) and really wish I would have waited until I was in my 30s. The biggest problem I see here with women in their 40s having babies is that a lot of them are so focused on their careers that they don't spend enough time with their kids. I would think 39 would be okay, but you really are greatly increasing your risk of complications/birth defects if you wait much longer.
Needless to say, I'm ecstatic right now! I may live west coast now..
but am forever a phillygal!
I live on the East Coast, definitely not "small town America"
Again, you shouldn't make excuses to spoil your kids and you absolutey shouldn't make assumptions that I live in "small town America" as that's definitely not the case. I was extremely careful driving because I always knew that if I got any kind of traffic violation, I was going to have to pay for it with my insurance rates going up. I grew up with a lot of kids that were spoiled as they "had" to have the most expensive clothes and shoes and, of course, couldn't pay for anything else and then mommy and daddy would foot the bill! Absolutely insane!
Just heard that a massive tidal wave (or Tsunami) is headed for England's coast and sm
could reach land in the next 12 hours.
I'll be watching this and I'm sure you'll be hearing more about it soon!
R u in Texas?
nm
Same here! Texas and
hot! Can't wait for the window-opening weather!
Where in Texas? I'm in far
north Texas. Just wish my kids could see real snow! Hayseed, it does sound beautiful there! I worked for a company in Maine and got a lot of information and it just sounded sooooo beautiful! But here I am in Texas, no snow, just ice here and there!
OP in Texas, isn't she? Anyway, that's what
xx
and in Texas
almost 70 degrees and I have been out walking in the sunshine!
I'm a Texas
girl too - in Fort Worth, where are you??
New Texas Rule
I for one am so glad I do not live in Texas. To force someone to take a shot like that! It should be the parents who decide. I have suffered from cervical cancer and no I do not want my two daughters having this injection. We do not yet know enough about the side-effects and long-term effects of this new drug.
Do you live in Texas? :)
a
Southeast Texas?
.
I'm far North Texas
so that wouldn't work for me, but thanks for the info! Sounds like you got a great deal.
In that case, Texas ought to be against also
because their capital punishment rates right up there with Florida and I would bet Texas is definitely into whuppings!
$3.41-3.45 here in West Texas. I have been
checking out yard sales for a bicycle. Not just about gas, I need to loose about 50 pounds plus all these short trips to the store is hard on the vehicle anyway.
$2.06 in fort worth texas
Down from $2.15 last week.
Texas beaches suck.
