Troops in Iraq throw a puppy off of a cliff.

Marine Corps Base Hawaii is investigating a shocking video of a smiling Marine throwing a puppy off the top of a steep hillside in Iraq into a gully below.
The video today gained widespread attention and condemnation on the Internet.
"The video is shocking and deplorable and is contrary to the high standards we expect of every Marine," the Kane'ohe Bay base said in a release.
Base officials said the video came to their attention this morning. An investigation has been initiated. Maj. Chris Perrine, a Marine spokesman here, said "it's looking like" the Marine is based out of Hawai'i.
"We do not tolerate this type of behavior and will take appropriate action," the base said.
Two Marines are seen in combat gear smiling as one holds a white-and-black puppy by the scruff of its neck. The dog seems to be about 8 weeks old and is motionless as it is held.
"Cute little puppy, huh?" says one Marine as he smiles broadly.
"Oh so cute, so cute, little puppy," says another in a child-like voice.
The Marine holding the puppy is then seen throwing the animal overhand into a desert-like gully below. The animal yelps until it thuds to the ground at the bottom of the gully.
"That's mean," one Marine says afterward.
The 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment of about 1,000 Hawai'i Marines recently replaced a sister unit in Iraq, the 3rd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment.
Marine Corps Base Hawai'i said the vast majority of Marines "conduct their duties in an honorable manner that brings great credit upon the Marine Corps and the United States."
There have been numerous stories of Marines adopting pets and bringing them home from Iraq or helping to arrange life-saving medical care for Iraqi children. Those are the stories that exemplify what we stand for and how most Marines behave."
======================================
The video is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zlCiUMoFu84 (Safe for work because it's blurry, but still very disturbing)
Some people have claimed it's possible the video is fake, but it doesn't seem likely.
Really, really sick.
This kind of twisted lack of humanity seems to stem partially from the brutal brainwashing soldiers go through in bootcamp, combined with the severe emotional stress of the field.
Whoever those guys are, I hope they're both discharged immediately, but I also hope they receive serious emotional help.

Question for sending to troops in Iraq (sm)
I want to send my cousin a care package for Christmas but want to know if there is a list of things I cannot send. Can anyone help me out?
TIA!
US Soldier Kills 4 Fellow Troops Before Killing Himself At US Base In Iraq
***UPDATE*** The Associated Press reveals more details about the shooter:
The suspect had been disarmed after an earlier incident at the center but returned with another weapon, according to a senior military official in Washington, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the investigation into the shootings was ongoing.
***UPDATE*** The American soldier who shot dead five fellow soldiers at a U.S. base in Baghdad is in custody.
"The shooter is a US soldier and he is in custody," US marine corps lieutenant Tom Garnett, a US military spokesman in Iraq, told reporters.
The New York Times adds some perspective to the tragedy:
The killings appeared to be the worst case of soldier-on-soldier violence among the American forces based in Iraq since the invasion more than six years ago. The shootings, which took place at a stress clinic, highlight the problem of post-traumatic stress disorder among U.S. soldiers, notes the Guardian:
Stress is one of the biggest killers of US soldiers in Iraq. About a fifth of all US troops are thought to be suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, contributing to high divorce and suicide rates. An estimated one fifth of the 4,292 members of the US force in Iraq have died from non-combat causes, either in accidents or from suicide. ***UPDATE*** According to Fox News, White House press secretary Robert Gibbs Monday relayed President Obama's response to the tragedy. Obama expressed shock and sadness and is promising to fully investigate what exactly transpired at Camp Liberty, so as to prevent such incidents in the future.
***UPDATE*** AP has another update. The shooting was at a 'stress clinic':
Pentagon officials say five Americans are dead after a U.S. soldier opened fire at a U.S. base in Baghdad. They say the attacker is in custody.
The officials say the shootings happened on Camp Liberty at a stress clinic, where troops can go for help with the stresses of combat or stress from personal issues.
One senior military official in Washington says it's unclear whether those killed are workers at the clinic or were there for counseling. He says officials also are unsure whether all the dead are members of the military.
***UPDATE*** ABC News reports that the U.S. soldier who attacked fellow troops on a U.S, base in Iraq has killed five of them and is now in custody. Initial reports suggested that he had turned the gun on himself after his rampage.
***UPDATE*** AP now reports that the U.S. soldier who went on a rampage against his fellow troops in Iraq may have survived the incident:
Pentagon officials say five U.S. soldiers are dead after an American soldier opened fire at a U.S. base in Baghdad.
The officials say the shootings happened Monday at Camp Liberty near Baghdad's airport.
One senior military official in Washington said it was not yet clear whether the shooter was among the dead. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the circumstances surrounding the deaths are under investigation.
Initial reports indicated the Army soldier shot several others, then turned the gun on himself. But it was unclear whether he, too, had died.
***UPDATE*** CNN reports that 3 other U.S. soldiers were wounded during the friendly fire incident that has left 5 U.S. troops dead. An American soldier killed 4 of his fellow troops before killing himself.
According to the Washington Post, it is the single greatest loss of life in a single incident involving U.S. soldiers since a truck bomb last month took the lives of 5 American soldiers.
***UPDATE*** CNN has just sent out a breaking news alert reporting that senior defense officials have told the network that a US soldier killed 4 of his fellow troops before killing himself. Check back for more information.
McClatchy is reporting that a shooting at a U.S. base in Baghdad has left 5 soldiers dead. The shooting occurred at Camp Liberty, a base near the Baghdad airport.
Rappelling down a cliff!
Wow, I can upload the image.
Finish from above: As they jump off the cliff.

I'm guessing because a crag (hence Craig) is a cliff
It took me a minute too, and I'm just guessing.
Tribute to our troops
Please remember our soldiers and their families this holiday season. Bless them all.

We always send a huge box of goodies to the troops!
I include a card telling them how very appreciative our family is for what they are doing and that they are not forgotten!
iraq/daughter
Bless your heart.....I hope she fares well....I've a young man who was in Behran at the height of it....came back somber and shell-shocked and can be called back up any day now. I don't think it's right to be expected do 3 tours of duty with this "volunteer" army, navy, marine corps, air force, coast guard, national guard. Send the big-wig politician's kids in to do it, darn it! Perhaps you're daughter willl reconsider. My prayers are with you. Cat
Iraq gifts sm
Again, cannot emphasize enough the importance of these guys and gals giving their lives so we can live free. Just imagine some terrorist knocking at your door! Gosh, these guys are OUR guys who are offering their lives for us, and will not ask for a thing. The operative word here is NOTHING, is which they ask for. Let's send them lots of SOMETHING! My opeative word is FIRST which is them. Let's get some dialogue going. No negative postings please! Let's just emphasize our GUYS AND GALS who will not be home for CHRISTmas!!!!!!!! I'm ready to give, are you?? Only legit please, we have a brain!
My son served in Iraq and he said he liked
The deck of cards I sent the best! That was sort of an add-in at the last minute to fill space in the box, yet he got the most use out of that.
He also liked the puzzle books and hard candy.
Heard from my nephew in Iraq!
I have written briefly about my 19-year-old nephew who is involved in this latest operation in Baghdad to route Al-Qaeda insurgents. Since it had been announced that his Division/Brigade was one of the primary groups in this action, we've all been just sick with worry. I just wanted to let you guys know that I had a very brief "I'm ok" email from him last night. He can't really say what he's doing or anything (naturally) but we're just sop happy to hear that he's okay. I can't think when I've been happier to open an email in my life! So I just wanted to share that happy news and to thank those of you who are praying/sending good thoughts/etc. for all of our troops. It means more than you can possibly realize.
if you have family in Iraq or Afghanistan,
and particularly if you are a Christian: I have a friend (a ranch wife) who has a number of things going on (for one, menopause, another feeling isolated) and she has all of her 4 sons serving right now, one in Afghanistan where things have been getting heated. She is very emotional, upset and i was wondering if any of you might be able to send (via e/m to me which i will forward) any words of encouragement. She was told by another friend, she didn't "have enough faith" which for the devout person she is, i think really hurt. I am just hoping someone in a similar situation who has a special understanding, maybe could help lift her spirits and encourage her. Thanks for caring.
I would love to, but my husband is in Iraq :(
no message.
ever thought of donating to the troups in iraq? sm
most of the time the only way they have of contacting family at home is by using calling cards. great donations/gifts to send overseas. i know a few and that is all i ever get asked to send.
Holiday gift for nephew in Iraq
I'd like to send a gift/gifts to my nephew in Iraq. This is his first Christmas away so I know it will be hard for him. If possible, I'd like to include something personal just for him and maybe some stuff for his buddies to share. I asked him point-blank what he'd like and, typical guy, he says "anything" which is of NO HELP at all. I have no clue what they're allowed to have or not have.
You guys have any ideas? Thanks!
Letter or card writing to Iraq sm
Get an address for someone in Iraq and have them all write a letter or draw a picture for them.. All it will cost you is to buy some paper & envelopes and provide a stamp, won't cost much more for material than most projects. There was an address on here and perhaps she will e-mail you. My brother never forgot that my son's class did this for him. At that time the postage was free, not so with this president, I assume. I put postage in mine to Iraq, didn't ask.Dont know what the postage is today - it should be free but I seriously doubt it.Perhaps some parents would donate stamps as well.
My husband I have, many times. Gas gouging, oil, immigration, Iraq. sm
he calls about anything he feels they should know about. You would be amazed at how easily you can get through to talk to them. If they are not there, their aide will take a message and you either get a phone call back or a letter.
In Michigan we have Carl Levin, Debby Stabenow, and Vern Ehlers. Their aides and my husband are on a first name basis. Literally. The aides are the front line of the reps and sens etc. They DO make note and you DO get a letter in the mail about your phone call. It doesn't really change anything, but at least the elected officials are aware of what the temprament of the voting public is.
Thank you! From a Mom who had 2 daughters, serving 3 separate tours in Iraq - twice over Christmas.
.
Probably, but they should throw the
book at her. LOL. She will probably do a Naomi Campbell act when she had to do community service in New York City, getting all dressed up to enter the facility and coming out in her evening gown. That was pretty funny.
Or Paris if she gets community service she will probably dress and act like she did in the Simple Life, (I think that it what it was called) with Nicole Ritchie. See what happens when you have TOO much money. Probably never worked a day in her life.
No - don't throw your son under the bus!
Why would you purposely cause one family member to hate another? You need to acknowledge to your son that you understand his feelings, and you need to gently guide your husband to see the reality of his behavior, but don't tell him what your son innocently told you. Be a confident he can trust in this stressful world, and do what you need to to get your husband the help he needs.
I had a violent father, and my mother stood by and did nothing. It was just as clear to me as it is to your son that my father was mean and yelled too much (and was violent). Things family members said were always causing me to receive yet more unnecessary violence, and it was wrong of them.
what did you have to throw out after the
I had to throw out the Austin peanut butter crackers. I heard there were around 1,800 items now on the list.
Puppy eating cat food, cats eating puppy food...
So I have three cats and a five month old puppy.
Cats eat Felidae, Puppy eats Canidae... or at least that is how it is supposed to be.
Both species eat mainly dry, but puppy gets wet at night when she is in "her room" (kitties do not go in puppy's room at night).
I cannot keep kitties out of Candiae and I cannot keep puppy out of Felidae
Can I relax or is this going to hurt either of them?
Advice very much appreciated!
TIA
Throw them in the swamp.
KIDDING! Our municipality runs a spring/fall cleanup and has designated dates/times where we can bring "hazardous" waste such as computers, monitors, cans of paint, etc. I'd give your town office a buzz and I'm sure they can help you out with that. Big business in recycling these things nowadays. If they are still working, just maybe too old and slow for what you want them to do, consider donating to a senior center, church, or American Legion.
Why do men throw out our stuff and keep theirs?
Hubby did it again! I had to work a couple hours this morning and in the meantime, he decided to clean out the linen closet.
Things he kept: All his stuff, plus old towels that are good for rags.
Things he threw out: My shampoos, my curling irons, make-up, my electric shaver, etc. When I asked where they were, he burned them! My curling irons were brand new!
Is he trying to tell me something?
This is not the first time he's done something like that. I hate not being here when he gets a "whim" like this, but I never thought he'd throw out my good stuff.
then i just throw on a sweatshirt!! :)
actually who am i kidding, i dont EVER answer the door anyways... you know I never answer the door to strangers for real. Even if it's a kid selling magazines. You just never know... not unless my BF was home. plus i have two crazy non-behaved dogs that if i opened the door, not only would they take off, but they would jump on the person in the process.... I read all the responses and it's funny how some people mentioned being "clean"... now if im sweating at the gym every day or having sex every night it's one thing... but I dont normally get dirty after sitting at a comp all day!!! :) And even when I do get up and get ready, as soon as im done running errands or whatever it was i was out doing, i go right back into my comfy clothes. And the part about the DH not wanting to see a wife all frumpy... my BF loves me either way, and he sees me enough dressed way up (on the weekend nights we go out)... so no big deal around my parts! :)
Don't throw out those cards!
Christmas is over, please don't throw away your cards. If you don't already have plans, please consider sending them to the Pine Ridge Reservation. Children there recycle the cards to make cards for next year. They sell these to earn money. They only need the front of the cards - the picture part - and welcome any style (obviously not naughty cards). The address to send cards is: Via UPS or FedEx: Carmelita Mesteth Oyate Teca Project Wakanyeja Okolakiciye Youth Center 1000 Youth Center Drive Kyle, SD 57752 Via US Mail: Carmelita Mesteth Oyate Teca Project P.O. Box 316 Kyle, SD 57752
Just throw in some spice-like Hot Sauce....BAM it!
it's' chicken, when in doubt, throw it out!!!
Toss it........chicken needs to be refrigerated after cooking and leaving it all night in the oven is not a good thing, I have done it myself and thrown the chicken out.
When in doubt, throw it out!
I made one of the throw blankets like this
for pretty much all of my relatives last Christmas. It has been the single most rewarding gift I have ever given. My mom used hers a lot but, during her brief fight with lung cancer, she had a hard time staying warm and she wanted my cover with her ALL (I mean literally ALL) the time. She had it right up until the minute she died. Of whatever I might inherit from her, I already know that I'm getting that blanket back, and there is no material thing on this earth at this time that I will treasure more.
On a more cheerful note, ALL of the relatives loved them and use them frequently to curl up and watch TV or whatever.
In line with afgan or throw, maybe one

I would trust my husband and throw it away...
but that is because I trust my husband and also because I know he doesn't have time for an affair ;). If you know it isn't true, don't pay it any attention.
She's sooo young to throw her dignity away.
How can she not realize she has her whole life ahead of her with no way to take her weirdness back.
Could still be a ruse, to throw her off guard. Had an ex-SIL who wheedled

...tape the bag closed and throw it in outside trash until

I agree, throw out. Probably teeming with bacteria.
Either that or heat it up and feed it to the dumb-dumb who turned it off and didn't put the leftovers away properly. LOL.
this is a throw back to my college days
Morning Thunder is loaded with caffeine! Good for all nighters!
Don't throw me down, Clark. I won't, Aunt Bethany
Geezus, you couldn't hear a dump truck driving through a nitroglycerin plant.
Can I refill your eggnog for you? Get you something to eat? Drive you out to the middle of nowhere and leave you for dead?
(Christmas Vacation)
throw a blanket or towel over it and then shuffle it out nm

If my husband keep "checking" on me to see if I was working, I would throw something at him.
Seriously. That is ridiculous. Especially since you are working and he is not!
How dare he accuse you of doing something that you have to hide?
Get an answering machine. Don't answer the phone, or let him do it, since he has so much time on his hands.
Keep a glass of water on your desk, and throw it on him when he opens the door. (Don't do this if he is violent, and if he is violent, you have a lot more problems than you realize.)
Hubby said they throw lips and noses in there!
Don't know if he was kidding, but lost my appetite. Would love to see Spamalot, love Ben Gazzara, he was in it in NY.
"Bring out your Dead." "But I'm not dead yet!" "Shut up, stop being a baby!!" Something like that. Too funny. Crazy is good these days.
If only they would throw a sweater over skanky clothing
so the rest of us don't have to look at them trying to sell themselves. Blech.
But wait! Act now and I will throw in one for free! Check or M.O. accepted. nm

It isn't uncommon for the loved ones to throw some dirt on the grave. sm
I didn't see it though so am not sure if this is the type of thing you are talking about or not. In my husband's family the men actually stay and cover the grave using shovels, but it is a different culture than what we are used to in the US, he and his father covered his grandfather's grave and my husband covered our son's grave. Not sure about 'walking' on the grave though... that seems disrespectful... but again, I didn't see so don't know.
the increased mucus could be causing him to throw up. but with the fever... ???
I would give it 2 days. if the fever persists he needs to be seen. could be a number of different things. there are many different types of flu's.. so its hard to say.
And don't throw her a ball, because if she misses and it hits her guns, they may blow!
LOL
I would not let my coworkers throw a baby shower BEFORE the birth of my daughter...
because both of my sons were born unexpectedly 2-3 days before their baby showers were planned. We had the baby shower 3 weeks after she was born.
(Was kind of embarrassed also to have a baby shower for the 3rd child anyway, but it was more gracious to allow them to throw one.)
Could be strep - makes my children throw up, sometimes no sore throat(nm)

Puppy ... maybe
The plan was to have just one dog, our Sasha, the nice, healthy, solid white rescued Siberian husky. She has been enjoying being treated like a queen for the last week, even though one night she did start acting oddly, sniffing surfaces, as if searching the house for any sign of Misha. Though she knows perfectly well because I let her smell Misha's collar and told her she was gone. I could tell she knew what I meant.
But I couldn't help looking at rescues and SPCA and even a nearby breeder who has had Siberians who won best of breed at Westmister. It wasn't just me who was filling out applications ... DH did it too. And he heard from a Siberian rescuer in West Virginia who had a call from a lady who needs to rehome her 7-month-old Siberian puppy because she was forced to move into an apartment, and it's not good for the puppy. And she is beautiful! Her face is open and Kodiak-bear like, just like Misha's was. And if I get her I'm going to carry her everywhere as long as I can ... because she's still a little bit puppy at 7 months, and they grow up so fast.
your puppy
If you Google home-made dog foods, there are lots of recipes you can try that might be gentle on his stomach. Being a puppy, he is probably sensitive to a lot of additives. Good luck, I hope you find something gentle that he can digest until he gets a bit older.
We have a new puppy!! sm
We got the sweetest little puppy this weekend! We were going to just foster her until she got a little bigger and stronger, but she is doing so well in the first two days with us..and all the other dogs like her..so we decided to keep her. She is a baby basset hound. She was the runt out of 13 and only weighs 2 pounds at eight weeks old. All of her brothers and sisters got homes and she was left behind. She quit eating and drinking and just cried all the time. We brought her home and she has been eating and drinking and her little tail never quits wagging. Sure makes ya feel good to see her thriving now after just two days!! We now have a cat, a mutt, a cocker spaniel, a Cavalier King Charles spaniel, and now her. They are all doing well together and nobody is being mean to her..so keep your fingers crossed! All of our animals are boys and this little one is a girl. The boys are fixed and she will have to get it to when she gets older, so hopefully they can all behave!
Thanks for listening...just had to share!
Got my new puppy!!!
I posted last week about a new puppy to replace my dog that was stolen. Well, I got lucky enough to get a full-blooded pekingese for free! She is 14 weeks old and so sweet... We named her Remy (all our dogs are named after a brown liquor - my husband's insistence!!!).
She is not too happy with trying to crate break her and she threw up last night 5 times in my car and twice after I got home (car sick or overate on the new food the lady fed her yesterday), but today things are going good!
Wish me luck with the training...
