This is going to sound terrible

In Reply to: what 'stories' were you told as a child that you - believed?
but my dad used to tell us if he caught us flipping the bird at anyone he would chop our middle fingers off. Of course he wasn't serious and I was the only one gullible enough to believe it.
Also I remember my grandma telling me when I was really young that kids that bite have to have all their teeth pulled out. God, it sounds like I had a horribly sadistic family but they really werent! LOL
I also remember being told if we swallowed watermelon seeds they could grow in our stomachs.

I think that was a terrible terrible thing, but
this is quite different. That was an adult who deliberately wanted to hurt this child, not to the point of death I would hope, but did take pleasure in knowing this would hurt a young teen. I personally feel there should definitely be some severe consequences for that. Just like if this were my child that made the reference to a teacher like this, I would defintely punish him.
Terrible terrible loss
I'm in shock. What a horrible loss for all of us. He was the voice of reason and spoke it like it was. My heart goes out to his family and friends. You can hear how everyone on the news is in shock. The news will never be the same without him.
Is it just me or does she look really terrible?
Poor thing, she's a mess. I didn't catch the wedding, did she at least clean up nice? lol
Wow! That's terrible.
He only gave me enough for about 2 weeks, if that, with no refills. He is really into the natural things as well and suggested a supplement - can't think of it now because I was next thing to a basket case in his office - to take after I get over the initial hurdle. I don't like to take pills, so am only taking 1/2 a tab q.12 and it seems to be helping.
Very sorry, that is just terrible........
and sounds like stories books and movies are made of, almost difficult to believe one person can endure so much. God bless you.
That's just terrible!
I'm so sorry you had that experience, especially at a time like that! It's uncalled for and absolutely sickening how some people will push their beliefs onto others at all costs!
Let me tell you, I don't believe in god at all. I'm OK with others believing, but that's not for me. I have made it clear to my husband and all my family members that when I die I DO NOT want any type of religion in my funeral, no bible verses, no mention of the word god, none of it! It's kind of a family joke now that if they do that to me after I die at my own funeral knowing how I feel about religion that I will come back and haunt them, LOL.
I have no problems with anyone pretty much or any person based on their religion UNTIL they start preaching at me, trying to save me, blessing me, what have you. I just wish they could have the same respect for me that I do for them.
Again, sorry about what happened to you. That kind of thing really bothers me.
I am so terrible at this that
for HIS birthday (yesterday), he asked for and received a Magellan Maestro 4000 GPS portable navigational system. It can move from car to car, but will mostly reside in MINE so I will stop calling him to help me when I'm lost. I usually get lost during the day since I would NEVER go anywhere new at NIGHT by myself.
How humiliating, LOL.
That is terrible!. . sm
I had colitis for several years. I would have terrible flare ups, and sometimes after lunch I would have to leave the room frequently to use the restroom. I tried really hard to get my work done and it wasn't every day that this happened. I found out that one of the other ladies I worked with would put her hand in the air and would put her fingers up indicating the number of times I went to the bathroom. So, if I was on my 4th bathroom break, she would hold up 4 fingers. She never looked up from what she was doing but would stick her hand up. I would only be gone for a couple of minutes at a time. Sometimes, she would page me over the intercom to return to work when she knew I was in the bathroom. Luckily, my good friend told me what she was doing. I was so humiliated. I put in my 2-weeks notice and quit. Some people are just mean!
That is terrible.
I come from a family where there are a few members that leave a lot to be desired. Usually the person on the other end of the conversations receives hurtful comments such as yours.
My mom puts up with it but I don't. I do not have a large family and I understand all too well how precious family and relationships are...however, I do not feel this adds anything positive to my life and have chosen not to participate in conversations with these people. It has gotten so bad that they do not even show up to family events (even for their own children and grandchildren) because everyone else is "wrong" but them.
I think it is a wise decision to just avoid them for a while. It's very sad but your husband will be better off without more hurtful comments eating away at an already difficult relationship and situation.
Terrible...sm
I wonder if he hit his head when having a seizure or what? I guess we'll know more after the autopsy. Poor child.
yes it would be terrible....
that's why I worry. If I move, I want to do it before my son starts school, so I have until early August, so I worry, but by then it will be 3 full months (he's been missing since mid April), so I suppose it would be "safe" to move then....sigh...
thank you!
I think it's terrible - sm
I think they're both acting like spoiled brats but I never really followed the show. Was marriage counseling every suggested or tried? Those poor kids. Their parents' dirty laundry is going to be broadcasted everywhere, on You Tube, etc. when they're old enough for the teezing to begin and it will.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I'll get down off my high horse and go back to more serious issues - you know, Iran, the economy, etc.
Reality TV - was it invented by Stephen King? He wrote "Running Man" and used people as the players with other people chasing them around and killing them in a maze.
I honestly don't watch much reality TV. They're grasping so far with ideas for new reality shows and IMO, they're getting silly but that's just me. I couldn't stand to have anyone filming me constantly, though I have yearned for Cesar Milan to come over and get my rescue pug under control. ;-)
My husband has this and has terrible
leg pain with it that flares up off and on. He found relief with a supplement on line named Activive, it really helped his leg pain. He ran out of it recently and his leg pain returned so he quickly ordered more. He had tried everything from pain medicine to even an antidepressant that rheumatologist said would help the pain but caused him to have a panic attack. God bless you, this may be something for you to look into.
I am terrible about no pre-planning
I often go to the grocery store 3 or 4 times a week. I love to watch the cooking channel when I have time. Robin Miller has a show that usually shows how to cook a couple of times a week and take the leftovers and use for another meal. She now has out a cookbook so that might be a great place to start.
That was a terrible thing for him to say
Good riddence to him!
I know a single woman that had the same exact thing happen to her a couple of times but her picture was an older one.
Unfortunately this seems to be the new man mentality, no matter what the man looks like, the woman has to look a certain way. Of course not all men but many nowadays.
And we can thank the media for that and movies like Shallow Hal. All the diet and exercise infomercials. Makeovers. Plastic surgery shows. Veneers. Nose jobs. Boob jobs. Liposuction. Hair extensions. Society has made it pretty clear that being imperfect is now unacceptable, but usually only if you are a woman! Of course women still believe nobody is perfect but men feel that it is now becoming possible.
If you look at any very wealthy man today you can bet the wife has had it all done, probably at the coaxing of her husband.
I am sure there are still some good men out there and you will find the right one. Or live you life and enjoy it without one. I know a few single women who say they would never again want a man because their lives are so fullfilling and happy without one and so why ruin a good thing.
All the best to you.
Terrible PMS - perimenopause? anyone else? sm
I have always had some PMS but for the last six months or so it is awful! I physically feel like I am in danger for a full day before my period. I mean my mind knows I am not, but my body is freaking out, heart palpitations, and that tense feeling in your chest like you would have if someone was chasing you or something! Has anyone else had PMS this bad and if so did you find a cure?? Thanks!
OMG!!!! How terrible! I can not imagine...sm
how upset you must be. I wonder what on earth happened to him? That would drive me nuts! Only 2 years old! I am so sorry!!
this is terrible, I do not think that a woman could do this..nm
nm
Terrible! Unbelieveable!
Frightening! I don't have enough adjectives for this! How can we ignore our own citizens in need and yet justify some of the astronomical funding for stupid government programs going on? I wish I could do more for you than just sympathize!
That is terrible, makes the good ones look bad:-)...
I remember when the Chicago Bulls basketball team won the championship years ago, and in downtown Chicago they were turning cars over, setting things on fire, pretty scary. I'm happy to be in an outside suburb where it's not that crazy. It's just not that big of a deal, ya know?
Anxiety is a terrible thing.
Xanax works for me. I suffered too long with out. Only can take half the dose, but I feel more focused. I don't feel I need it every day. Anxiety is a real disorder and does not always coincide with depression. Like Hayseed says it can come with a traumatic insult of sickness on one's self, i.e., heart attack.
This is terrible but I have never heard of Inwood.
I am as I said just across the state line from WV, less than an hour from Tennessee and Kentucky, and about an hour and a half from North Carolina. The finally caught the suspects in Abingdon, VA on Sunday morning. My DD was incredibley impressed with the principal and the school and how he was constantly outside patrolling. (I did ask her how she knew since all blinds were supposed to be closed....didn't get much of an answer) I would prefer he not have put himself in such immediate danger but that is the kind of person he is. His son and my son are very close so we know him rather well and I am not suprised. Everything was back to normal here yesterday. I wouldn't mind talking with your friend. Would like to know what Inwood is near.
Terrible song choice
Even though Jordin sang it extremely well, I thought the song was awful. It reminded me of last year's Do You Make Me Proud. I think most of the songs that they chose for "the song" is more orientated towards women. JMO. You're right a different song for each of them would have been better or at least a song that is more upbeat.
I've had a terrible time with
vets also. I don't know if some of them are just bad at diagnosing efficiently, or if my efforts to help them out annoy them so much their judgment is clouded.
I just detected enlarge lymph nodes in my 8-year-old Sasha, which must have been Thursday evening or Friday, and it took me Tuesday evening to get up the courage to get a vet to check her. I ended up going to Banfield because I just couldn't bear to take her to the places where I struggled to get good diagnoses and treatment for my other terminal dogs. Sasha had seen this vet before anyway, since he had stitched her ear while we were away on vacation.
I was careful to just use terms like "lumps" with the staff and vet though, so as not to annoy anybody. And I asked the vet to please tell me those were just huge chewing muscles under her jaw.
Nope. Lymphoma. He took an aspiration bx, but now that we know, we are noticing more and more bad signs, like she is kind of wheezing when she breathes. And the more places we check, the more lumps we find. But she still wants to play growly bump with us, and can briefly return play with Cedric. When I get down on the floor with her, she looks in my eyes and smiles like I'm the greatest person on earth.
Cancer sucks.
....be released. It is terrible and ridiculous!!! nm

I'm terrible at guessing sizes, myself...sm
I know it seems impersonal to a lot of people, but if you can't figure out her size, how about a gift certificate? I always ended up taking clothes back whenever I got them for Xmas...and I learned to appreciate the gift certificates, that way I could pick out what I really wanted myself....just a thought, though.....
Terrible, but my husband loves it...
And it looks pretty nasty, too!
I cut up a bunch of red potatoes (skin on) to fill the crock pot about 3/4 full, along with one large onion. Then cut up 1# of bacon and 1# of whatever sausage sounds good that day--I prefer spicy italian. Add a little water and cook on low all day. About an hour before dinner time, I take all of the grease off the top of it and get rid of it with a ladle--add 1 pint half and half--salt and pepper to taste. Sometimes I add corn, too. Like I said, it is like trying to cause a massive coronary, but great when it is really cold out!
the terrible things that happen
I got a phone call this a.m. for a prayer request. A young man that is on my nephew's ball team and his girlfriend were coming home last night from a ball game.. He maybe fell asleep and they hit a tree. They have flown them to Evansville and he is on life support, they say he has a bruised heart. He has never come to at all.. His name is Mikey, his girlfriend, Lindsay has a messed up spleen, tear in her liver & maybe broken ribs, they said her back was broke. my sil & her husband went to the hospital today, so will find out for sure when they get back or call..but it's terrible the things that are happening all around.
My Misha had terrible foot trouble.
Not sure why she had infections going in her front feet, but she did. Finally had to have surgery on one of them. If you take the dog to the vet, the vet can put a better wrap on than you can. He can put a stiff sole in there and then wrap it with that semi-sticky splint wrap stuff. The soaking was good. We used epson salts or just soapy water. Definitely don't cut anything off. If it looks like part has turned whitish like it has no blood supply, then even that can be left in place as a temporary cover on the wound, the way you leave the cover on a blister, even if it breaks open. Eventually it will dry up and peel.
But I would probably have taken the dog in to the vet on Monday. In fact I did once for a cut pad; didn't know how old it was, but the vet was not worried about that one because it was only a couple of mm deep. There was no flap.
If you don't think a vet trip is necessary, they do sell booties with Velcro straps at pet stores. If you get the right size it might help you protect your bandage and keep it on longer. We did that with Misha. Maybe if you put extra stiffener in there and even glued in some bubble wrap or other cushion, maybe you could walk the dog sooner. You could use cushioning from people shoe inserts, maybe glue it to cardboard and tuck it inside the doggy booty. Course it would have to be a little bigger than the foot to accommodate all that.
Good luck.
I am a terrible housekeeper, aaaugh, the work I have to do
to have my parents over for Father's Day.
Terrible typos inside message above, so sorry! (NM)

Something terrible happened today. I hit a dog in the street sm
about a quarter-mile from my house. The owners just leave it in the yard while they go to work - no security fence, nothing. You have to pass a lot of houses until you get to the main street to leave the neighborhood and you also have to go up a big hill. Well, I went up the hill and he was lying in the road taking a nap and I ran him over! it was horrible! I didn't see him - just heard a loud thump. Total and complete accident!
No one was home at the time. He actually got up but I didn't want to go near him. It's a big black lab-looking mix. I know that dogs can get hit and seem okay, but then later die.
I'm not sure what to do! Would you go and tell them? Check on him? Leave him? I'm confused, upset, and still in shock.
I think you're terrible. Is this what you teach your children?
xx
Hope you are safe in the Midwest with the terrible storms..
that are ravaging the area. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your families.
Oh my gosh.. I agree he was soooo terrible! Sanjaya here we go again. nm

I made a terrible mistake with a man I thought I loved SM
and his marriage truly was rocky, but to make a long story short, I got my guts literally ripped out of me waiting for him, and actually years later long after we broke up she threw him out. She was tired of his running around and just was tied of the marriage. To my surprise, he was in terrible emotional pain and said he thought they could just GO ON AS ALWAYS. I have asked forgiveness more times than I can tell you, because I worked directly with this man and refused any times alone with him, but like you I became so emotionally attached that we took it to a physical relationship. I pray you will do what is right for you, and that is to back off NOW. I was in a triangle and I stood the greatest chance of losing my heart, which I did. Found out later that my wonderful gentleman who made me feel beautiful and truly loved was cheating with another girl who worked for our hospital, only on the second shift. This actually makes me nevous for you because you are totally emotionally invested in this man, and the only thing I see for you is hurt. I am not judging, but I have been there and don't want you to pay the high price that I have paid, both in a broken heart and my reputation with a lot of people.
Oh my goodness that's terrible! Do you know here it is legal for people to have them as PETS!? (s
Stay inside and be safe! There is a shelter here for them (NC) because people get them as pets when they are cute little cubs and then many abandon them as soon as they start growing larger, with no thought of the safety of other people!
I broke my keyboard tray off when I was startled and jumped. Terrible startle reflex. NM

Wow, you sound like
someone with real compassion for animals - NOT.
I personally would rather have my tax money go for this cause as opposed to going to cover welfare and disability incomes of people who are perfectly capable of working and just choose not to because they can. But that's just my opinion.
You know what? If it were me, and I know this may sound sm
way off to some people, but I would treat this young boy with love! Invite him over, talk to him, show him that someone truly loves him. I would invite him to church and pray for him. I know, totally unconventional. He acts that way because of his parents. He needs good, godly role models in his life. I would try my best to be that person.
I think too many people try to throw away bad kids. It's such a shame. They can be rehabilitated. 11 isn't that old. And I am not saying that is your responsibility because it's not! I understand that. But if I lived there, that is what I would do and see how that works. That saying, "love makes the world go round," is because love can turn a bad situation around. Bad always reaps bad.
I know because just this past Wed. I kept 5 kids at my house (I have 3 of my own!) and we stayed outside and played until 9 at night. I live out in the country and have a lot of land, animals, a pool, etc. The kids I had over has a dad serving in Iraq and I just wanted to give their mom a break. They don't have a yard where they live. They played until they collapsed. I ordered pizza and just loved on them. I see their mom struggling with them and I just wanted them to have a place where they could let loose and have a great time. One of them was a little ornery, but I would talk to her and be sweet and I really think I brought the best out in her. They brought their collie with them to play too and he ended up staying! So, we also have a new dog and we love him!
Good luck to you. I know this probably hasn't helped you much at all, but try not to be mad at him.
You sound
like a real taker and nasty, changing dirty diapers on a conference table?? I would have been finished with you then also. Gross. I have been at time share meetings before but a good answer is NO! Did not have to resort to a free this or that and I know how to get a point across without being offensive.
you sound like me
I have read people use timers to get themselves away from the computer when reading email on their working days. For me, I keep talking to myself and saying "just do it" especially when I feel the urge I want to begin and don't want to delay getting started any longer. I was more energetic when I was a SE.
Here's the sound for ya ...sm

That does sound a lot like us
I'm one of those tweeners size-wise; I'm not fat and not thin, wearing somewhere around a 10-12 jean, a 16 shirt, 5Ǝ", 170 pounds. But three children and breast-feeding have taken a toll, not to mention the varicose veins and a few randomly scattered keratoses. Like yours, mine claims (and acts) interested until it's actually bedtime, but then finds reasons not to come to bed. Like you also, the supposedly wanted advances have frequently been rejected (not outright, but more a 'not now' thing), so I've kinda quit putting myself out there, too. Fortunately, there are things that still say everything else is okay so I'm sticking it out, but with the price of batteries going up, we may have to find a better solution!
you sound like the big sis I need
Thanks for your note. I could be making more of this than what is really necessary. It is a horrible way to live (always planning for the worse and worrying about what's going on for things we can't control). I think he realized today that all the negative news and me having to work was really getting me down. I just feel myself getting heavier and heavier and I'm so exhausted right now I feel like I'm about to fall asleep and I have got to finish the rest of my work (about another 4 hours). The reason we don't celebrate holidays is actually an agreement we both have. We used to celebrate holidays but every year I found myself so depressed because I've been away from home for close to 30 years and it is still hard, and I cant just go home every year. And he does not like family rituals or whatever those things are called (can't think of the word), as in it's Thanksigiving so we eat Turkey because it's thanksgiving (family traditions - that's it). So over the years I found it easier to deal with the holidays by not celebrating them. If I do cook a turkey on Thanksgiving its because I feel like having turkey that day.
When I say I can't throw too much at him, he doesn't have health problems, but he just can't handle too much. We take one situation at a time. I learned that years and years ago. Me, I'll do 10 things at once, but I keep it simple for him otherwise, so he doesn't get too overwhelmed. Yes I know he's a big boy, but not all men act like it.
I may not be expressing myself too good at this point. I'm so exhausted and need to go lay down.
Thanks for listening. I liked your last line bout thinking his down and out feelings are more important than my well being. I will be thinking on that one more.
Thanks again.
you sound like me -
for the past couple of years, I have said, let's forget the gifts and just spend the day together at my mom's house -- but oh no, that would be horrible if we did not buy presents. This year, my sister's husband lost his job and now it's automatic, we are not going to be buying gifts.
I always wonder, why is it that one person in the family always seems to make the decisions for everybody else?
This is going to sound very mean, s/m
but I have three full grown cats and two of them won't leave the tree alone. We go through this every year. For the first two days, I do not plug the lights in but sit waiting with my squirt gun. Once they are in the tree, I shoot. They run. Normally after the first two days, they won't climb it again, but they will sit underneath it and bat at the balls on the lower part of the tree, which I make sure are plastic just for them. So far this has worked for me. Now if anyone can find a way to keep them off the counter, let me know! I have tried pepper, hot sauce, two sided tape and the squirt gun.
You sound like the
Geez!
I'd rather live next to the cows and pine trees any day!
You sound like me. ...sm
We seem to get the strays. I don't have the heart not to try to take care of them. I am a succer for dogs.
If he has pit in him you definitely do not want to call animal control. I would just feed him and show him love and try to find him a home. I would just tell my husband look he has nowhere to go. Until I find his owner or a new owner I will be taking care of him. My husband gets annoyed with me too, but he won't deny a dog food and care.
LOL, you sound like me
Except not only would I start fights, if my BF was even 5 minutes late coming home I'd have his clothes and stuff on the front porch and him locked out. I'd make him beg and apologize for about 30 minutes before letting him in (but make him wait 30 more minutes before allowing him to bring his stuff back in so I could 'think about it'). Finally I realized why I was doing it and, once I did, I worked really hard on thinking before I did anything.
It takes a long time to drag yourself out of that craving for chaos. Now when I want thrills, I suggest he and I go do something crazy together instead of me throwing his belongings onto the front porch and it's been smooth sailing ever since, lol!
I would still like to know if the OP had the same type of upbringing we did. Hopefully she'll post again soon.
