Think this is fat or edema? (sm)

When I work I sit with my left leg in my chair and right leg on the pedal.  I have gained about 20 pounds in the last 6 months since starting back with transcription.  The leg that I have in the chair leans against the metal arm of the chair - I have an indention where it leans against the arm, which does not go away completely, even after a weekend of no work.  My right foot is always somewhat swollen.  I am wondering if when you gain weight it just takes the "path of least resistance" (LOL) and so the fat is not deposited where my leg touches the chair arm, or if it is edema.  I know you are not a doctor, just looking for opinions or someone who has experienced same or similar?  Thanks
