How about the Atlantis Resort on
Paradise Island in Bahamas. It's a beautiful resort. I would love to go back sometime, but it's a little pricey. My husband and I got married there 9 years ago.

Last resort - crating at night
I know cats aren't as amenable to crating as dogs, but if it were me, I would get one of those hard-sided plastic crates and put the little bugger in there and put the crate as far away from the bedroom as possible. It comes down to a question of who's running the show, you or him? It sounds like it's either that or giving him away. IMO, no one should put up with an animal that is destructive. There are ways to help train them to be less destructive, or to confine them to prevent them from being destructive. If that doesn't work, it's time to start looking for another home for the animal.
But that's JMHO.
I would not encourage him to resort to name calling.
That just brings him down to their level. My son loved tennis and was not very athletic in "team sports". His friends were really cool about this. They come to all his matches and cheer him on and he in turn goes to their soccer matches. Just depends on how they are raised I guess.
I was a single mother at one time. I had to resort to
food stamps to feed my 2 kids that I had while married. My husband and I did end up remarrying and I called and cancelled the food stamps right then. While we were divorced, though, it was food stamps or hungry kids. Yes, I was working, but tying to pay the bills, keep housing and food for my kids and keeping them clothed and in school was just too much. Believe me, I hated like rip to have to go the food stamp office and even apply. I was absolutely mortified and thought I would die of embarassment, but I did it for my kids.

did the brunch thing (11:00), and the food was absolutely AMAZING. If price isn't a big deal (for us, we splurged), then you must visit this place. You can have different reservation times depending on your schedule. We chose brunch, but you can do lunch, dinner. I can only recommend brunch because that is what we ate. Delicious, gourmet and non-gourmet food. They had the neatest candy bar where the kids could eat all the candy they could get their hands on. All of the characters come around the table and you take tons of pics.
But you must have a reservation for this place. You just call them. Find the number on line.
Also, I recommend Dixie Stampede.

Truly feel for you -- my doggie is 16
I have a chow/lab mix and she turned 16 on Valentine's day and I know that the end will be soon. Took her to the vet and her blood tests are all good but she has a lot of trouble with her back legs but still walks about a mile a day. But I just want to keep her as comfortable and happy as I can these next months or so. Vet said whateverI was doing keep doing as he has never seen a healthier 16 year old. She is deaf but no catarcts. No leakage either. But I don't want her to suffer and that is my main concern. But I know what you are going through and it is so hard to love an animal and lose them But we know we gave them a good life. At least she made the decision to leave and you did not have to make that decision which is what I do not want to have to do. Keep those memories in your heart.

I saw a little doggie yesterday in a car
as I pulled up to get out and looked and would have called the police, alone in the vehicle at a flea market but what saved the owner was they had the window down. The weather here was in the high 50s and climbing but I would not hesitate if the windows had been up.

It has no clue what it is, a Siberian and you call it a poodle. Poor thing. It has issues and I would suggest a good therapist!
I am really sorry about your doggie having problems
Glad i did not take the suggestion of my aunt who told me - well I wouldn’t spend a lot of money on her- when I said taking to the vets. I understand animals get sick as we do but I do not consider just throwaways like some do. Hope your furrie gets some good results. Hubs is sorta standoffish when it comes to my pets and I noticed a look when I was picking her up for some loving- don’t care if he does stands back, just don’t say anything when I am trying to help her out. I also give her 2 pills x2 each day and he just cannot believe I do this. Somebody gotta take care of the babies, right?
I had seen a picture of new first doggie
and I loved his dark coloring with his white boots on. I am sure the girls will love this beautiful pooch, I know I would but then again I love most animals with fur.
I know the doggie had surgery, went personally
to the animal clinic and talked with the veterinarian and others there, told them to contact me. I would seek out attention for an injured animal whether it comes to my front door or on the street. Heavens only knows if the guy takes the medicine? Druggies might do about anything but I appreciate the information you have passed along. I explained some months ago unable to financially care for the dog anymore - I had things I wanted to do in renovations at my own home- and they would have to take care of it so it has been some months since I last bought the medicine. Having said that, got email here about a week ago and have not answered- she was coming across as ole woe doggie. Well, what about woe me? I told her- I would rather not lose her friendship but I had thought about calling on the dog before the son turned the animal over to his mother. Thanks again!

where she gets the medicine it is twice what I can get here in my town. i asked my veterinarian and ordered it one time for them (and paid that time) but have not paid since. I was asking hubs about picking it up and sending it as I doubt very seriously my veterinarian office would mail to her out of town. Guess I will not do that now- not trying to enable as she would pay for it.

LOL I have 2 dogs of my own a golden and a cocker. My son and his girlfriend magically get this chihuahua (sp?). Anyway, he is apparently abandoned by his owner who moved to California and said she would be "back in a couple of months" to take him back. When he first came into the area, his owner had a "party" and the puppy who is all of 7 months old got into some pot and ate it-had to be rushed to the vet for nasty temperament changes, and wow talk about mean. He bit anything and everyone including me at least 3 times. Well, we have all been working very hard with this little tiger to bring that demon temperament under control and he's coming along quite nicely, gets along with all of us, loves to play with my dogs and run in the yard. So what's the problem? I think I have spoiled him with love and discipline. He has to come over every day now. It's so cute. All my son has to say is "want to go see the dogs?" and he's jumping all over the place. I sure hope the owner doesn't come to claim him back because he is so well behaved now. All he needed was a little discipline and letting him know he can't run the show. He doesn't even bare his teeth at me anymore. He's such a doll. All the dogs lay in front of the full-view door and take their naps in the sun.
GROSS doggie question.
Bruiser is 14 months old, Duke is a year old. Bruiser licks Duke's behind a lot. We've only had Bruiser for two months, and I've noticed the licking just within the last couple of weeks. He also licks Duke's eyes and ears.
I don't think Duke's anal glands need expressed. He doesn't drag his butt or anything like that, and his stool is fine.
What's up with this behavior, anyone know?

I'm looking for both snack and meal recipes for an older dog that's kind of sedentary but LOVES to eat. I'm convinced the food at the grocery store is either highly caloric or filled with a bunch of junk.

the house. I refuse to believe this. We have a love-hate relationship. haha She always sits in my favorite chair whenever she KNOWS I'm fixin to get off work and she won't budge either! She gives wayy more attention to the kids and husband than to me! I'm the one who feeds her all the time while cooking, so I kid with my hubby that she's afraid her "chef and cook" is not going to come home whenever I leave. I've NEVER seen her act the way my husband describes. He says she runs in circles, runs around, tries to look out the windows and will do this until I come home! the other night my husband took the kids to a ball game and she just watched them walk out the door and didn't flinch the whole time. I think it's hilarious!

Dh just told me a something
before it got back home. He took my oldest daughter to an out of town football game. Me and the baby stayed home as it is really too cold for her to be out. Well, he told me that this gal (recently divorced and hot to trot) came and sat by him and they were enjoying the game together.  He said people were staring. All I said was "okay." Okay, I need to keep my head. I should just trust Dh but we are having marital problems and the subject of divorce has come up but I thought we were going to put it behind us and work it out. Help me not blow up and blow it out of proportion. I can sometimes loose my head.

That the repair would be so obvious, it would be like night and day. I don't know, I guess if it were me, I would definitely want to know just exactly how much my premium would be going up before I made a decision. They do have the option of just havig their LR done for 200-300 dollars though, versus having the entire carpeting replaced and paying a higher premium. So, in reality, they will be paying for the carpeting anyway, like a poster above said.

that he was about to compliment her, and that she could ditch the surprised act and just say thank you. He said something like that a couple of times, in other words to not act so surprised she's getting a compliment and like, really? really? me? and just say thank you, and that's what she did.

I just got a call from the mother of this girl who comes over now and then telling me that I am a horrible hostest and how dare I make her daughter feel uncomfortable.
OH PUH-LEEEEEEZ!
I'm laughing, hoping this means we won't see this brat OR her nasty witch of a mother darken our doorstep again.
So this is what happened. The girl comes over to "hang out". I was up from my desk moving a load of laundry from washer to dryer and when I walked back into my office, there she is, typing away on MSN messenger talking to friends.
It is a well known rule in this house by EVERYONE, including the kids that come over, that they do NOT even look in the direction of my computer because it is a company computer and my income depends on it. There are TWO other computers that are for family use. STAY OUT! Clear enough? Apparently not to this little brat.
I came back into my office and told her she needed to get away from my desk, telling her for the millionth time that it is my work desk only. I was nice at this point but not happy.
She then tells me "Just a second, I'm talking." That's when I blew a gasket!
I said, "Get out. Go home. Now." Very firm but not yelling and screaming like I would have loved to do. She turns around and makes this face at me, then pushes my chair back really hard as she is getting up and it bounces off my bookshelf, giving it a good rattle. So as she was walking out the door I simply told her, do not come back. You are not welcome.
Then her witchy mother called. I couldn't care less what the hag was yelling about so I just interrupted her and said, "HEY! She's 15. She should know better than to act like that in someone's home and if YOU don't teach her that BEFORE she does that somewhere else, this will NOT be the last time she gets the boot!" And hung up on her.
My kids were hiding in the hall giggling as all this took place. They never had the guts to tell her to get lost.
Before anyone tries putting a guilt trip on me... this kid is FAR from neglected, comes from a nice home, parents are well off, just SPOILED beyond belief and she believes that everyone should jump when she says jump. I AM NOT PLAYING ALONG!

What nerve, what stupidity on his part, what ignorance. I am going to address how I feel about cats personally in a separate post and comment on some of the responses I have received. I am very appreciative of the responses and the dialogue back and forth. It is in some way healing, at least to me, and I hope to others.

and she needs to be aware of the STDs out there..They think it will never happen to them, but it can...that is why talking with a GYN or nurse practitioner would be a good thing to give her pamphlets and brochures and also keep the lines of communication open between the two of you.
I was always told not to mix
your alcohols (wine coolers, beer, cocktails, etc), but more importantly don't break the seal or you'll be in the ladies' room all night.

whole story, but just wanted thoughts based on the information I did provide and the assumption that it did happen. What would you do if it were your child and you were certain that this is what was said?

What I told
I have three - told them the truth. It worked for my daughters, worked some for my son. One of the big issues was "parties" and I just said no. They asked why. I told them that I knew them and did not think they would find it especially fun to watch their friends and themselves drink and ralph on other people's shoes. I actually described a few parties I had been to and all the graphic details. They believed me and decided not to go to parties until they were old enough to leave on their own power whenever they wanted. I just told all of them the graphic truth (my mother did not tell me and let me learn everything on my own - that was not such a good idea either in my opinion and she could have saved me a lot of grief if she had only spoken up. My son did drink when he was 18, but only at someone's home and says he did not drive. I believe him because he is now 37 and has no reason not to tell me the truth anymore. So, tell what you feel comfortable with. I think parents can have a big impact on their children when they are honest.

Ok, did what the vet told me to do
this morning, well tried to do it lets say. I was supposed to feed my big kitty separate from the other 2 so all 3 each had their own bowl, water and I took my big boy in my work room, set him and the food down and you would think I was punishing him! He went and crouched under a chair. I just gave up on that idea but what I did do was put all their food down, allowed them x amount of minutes and then took everything up, dried and wet food. Instead of several times a day treats now will only get 2 each at night (very small bits of treats) so hopefully can make it thru the day- might be like trying to get an addict to come off their drugs. Wish me luck.
This is what I was told
by H&R block. I owe big last year because even though I payed estimated I did not pay enough (like I only paid half of what I should have paid, so I owe a lot from last year), plus now my taxes have doubled this year, so what she told me to do is pay the quarterly on time and each month send whatever I can in to the IRS, but make sure I do it every month on a consistent basis so they see you are making good with trying to pay it off. I'll have to explain to them that there is only one income, my taxes doubled this year and I will be paying every month until last years bill is paid off. She said if you call them and set up a payment plan they charge you a $25 fee for setting it up, plus interest for not paying it on time. She said this way you'll still be charged the interest, just not the set up fee. I have worked with the IRS in the past and they really aren't as bad as everyone makes them out to be. They have always worked with me in the past and I never got any hassles. But you know...this just sucks big time. I was barely making it last year. Now this year I work 2 weeks every month just to pay taxes. That only gives me 2 weeks a month to pay the rest of my bills. Which means I will be working 7 days a week as many hours as I can fit in a day for the remainder of my life. Will this madness ever end?
What my vet told me
I know some of this is no good since she's already got parvo, but my vet told me this about parvo prevention:
Spray the yard with bleach water wherever the puppy will be going out until they have completed there shots.
NEVER let your dog walk into the vet clinic before they are done with there shots. I had to carry my boxer pup in yesterday and he's 20 pounds now at 12 weeks!
Things could change very rapidly. My mom had a puppy that was fine when she went to bed and dead when she got up in the morning from parvo. It takes over quick.
My mom and I have brought a whole litter back minus one from parvo before, but it required around the clock attention and we both work with horses and have both worked in a vets office where we knew how to give IVs, etc. It was a very long week for us, but after about five days they were back to eating on their own and drinking well and playing.
I wish you luck. I've become very attached to my puppy and if something happened to him I'd be devastated. We are both praying for your puppies good health!
