I just got back from the store and the lady in front of me had 2 small kids and paid with food stamps. When I was loading my groceries in my car, she was putting her children in car seats and driving a BRAND NEW CADILLIAC ESCALDE!! This thing was LOADED! Grrrrrrrr!

The thing is that some people do abuse the system and always will. But I do think there are people who really need help sometimes.

Our local paper this a.m. had an article on how people are eligible for food stamps if less than 40K per year for family. He needs to seek help from the state where you life. You did not cause it and can't cure it. He is letting pride get in his way and playing on your sympathy. If he's depressed, he is eligible for help as well. You are not a bank, a restaurant or a hotel. Been there, done that with a brother, will never, ever be "used" again, my husband and kids come first! Get tough!

Take all you receipts down there, and you children's birth certificates, and all your utility bills, etc, etc. You will see just how great it is to apply for food stamps, and exactly what you get for that.

How do you feel about Food Stamps/Welfare?
In the way home from school last night, I had to run into the Ameristop to get a gallon of Orange Juice.
Well, as I was pulling in, this lady (about 25) was walking in, sort of rough looking girl.
Well, she was ahead of me in line then and she got her food stamps out, and typically this kind of thing makes me upset. Because, you could see physically anyway, there was nothing wrong with her.
But, maybe there was....... or maybe she lost her job, and is trying to manage. Not that I was being nosey or anything, but there she had 2 Gallons of Milk, Sausage and Biscuit Dough. So, maybe she was trying to get breakfast for her family in the morning. So now all of a sudden I feel guilty.
But, if we weren't in these hard economic times where jobs were scarce, I typically wouldnt be as understanding, because I do feel Welfare is Abused.

THEN, another thing......... maybe you will know, Sometimes you see Welfare people ahead of you in line at the grocery store or something, and they ALWAYS have "Name-brand" in their cart. Never Store Brand. Well I shouldnt say Never, but it always seems like your name brands.
Does Welfare require them to get Name Brand?

Then there is nothing wrong with it.
Just because a person is on food stamps doesn't generally mean they are disabled or can't work. Some people on them are those that work for minimum wage and cannot afford to buy groceries especially a single mother who makes minimum wage. Then again some people just don't work at all and get them because they don't want to do any better. It depends. Welfare is lots of times abused.
I wouldn't think people on food stamps would be required to buy name brand. Maybe it is just the person's preference. I don't know.

only for a very short time. I was also a taxpayer then and had been for a number of years before and still continue to be. Why don't you come down off your high horse and realize that sometimes people need help. I hope that you and Amy never become disabled and have to rely on government services to help you.

Or call your state office for help, i.e., look under CT State, VA State, etc., and ask questions. Around here, they've kind of (New England) let up a little on your assets, used to be you couldn't have two cents in your pocket. Check it out.
How dare you say I resent my children
I do spend every night reading to my children. I also tuck them in and rub their backs every night. I get up every morning to prepare them a warm breakfast before driving them to school so they don't have to ride a cold school bus in the morning. My kids are all on the high honor roll because my husband and I help them with their homework. I volunteer at their school once a week. My husband and I attends every sporting event with them, be it practice or a match, to make sure no harm comes to them. I make sure they have a hot meal on the table when they come home from school. I worked extra all summer to afford a trumpet for my son who wanted to join the elementary band. I don't resent my children. I love them very much.
But I do resent others critiquing my parenting abilities. I'm sure OP's DS and DD do a lot more than OP is giving them credit for. It's terrible for the kids to have fish sticks and yogurt, but it's okay for GP to spank them? She's complaining because DD and DS don't hit them, they just yell at them? Where are your scruples? It's obvious these parents love their children, they just need a little help, not criticism. Why is that so hard to understand? Do parents not deserve a break?
So many GPs have the mentality, "you made 'em, you raise 'em" and that's fine. No one said GPs should be raising their GKs, but is it that wrong to think that GPs could give the parents a break even just once a year? Maybe they'd be better parents if they weren't as stressed all the time.

There used to be a time when you could buy all kinda holiday postcards. Have you ever made your own postcards outta your old cards? Just cut off the front, draw a line down the middle, address and send...pinking shears or regular scissors work just fine ....I've done it for the last coupla years and the folks at the post office love it....It's economical and you're recycling as well. I first heard of it today, they're blaming it on the cost of gas to deliver mail. At least this time I won't have all my bills returned for a stupid 1 cent more postage, like happened last time.

I wondered...was I the only one that caught the remark about Tom bringing up the fact that Sam did not cook anything and how this was a cooking competition? The only thing Marcel cooked was the fried taro chip. Woo Woo. As for the pineapple poi, it looked like something dripped on the plate while moving the spoon to the rest. I have done the mothering thing, the working thing together so I am stating what I saw with the hardworking mothers mostly all at the playground stating how many hrs they put in a week and what they are worth. I surely do not understand where they would estimate the worth of a stay at home mom at $183,000 plus a year- do you get that working or even half of that? Don’t think so.

The g'mother said this lady has had trouble getting pregnant and thus the treatments? I mean, does the g'mother not realize that 6 is entirely too many and should have been on birth control rather than getting in vitro. This woman apparently smart in some ways as she has degree and said working towards masters but needs some real psychiatric check- I am obsessed with stromboli but I don’t have them 24/7. The g'mother recently filed for bankruptcy- well that takes away what the g'father said about being able to afford all, right? G'mother also stated when the mother got home from the hospital, "I will be gone." I would not be surprised to see some kind of intervention from the state here. I know not the reason but the state swooped in and got the kids in another state that were named after Hitler and some other cracked-up name, forgot the others, seemed bordering on KKK or something to that effect not sure though.
