when I roll in the driveway I see my dog sitting there staring out, waiting, waiting, and (sm)
When he sees me he yawns and stretches, then puts on this act of being all bored and sits on his tail so I cannot see it wagging... like he was not eagerly waiting for me the whole time and seeing me is no big deal.  Every single time.  If I have someone with me I'll say, "watch what Walter does..." and he does this every time.  Oh, by the way, don't feel bad for this guy for having to wait for me once in while, he has the life of a king.
Lists
I agree with this. Also, would say it depends on account specifics and how the hospital wants it done, all up to them.
Do what you want to do, not what the lists tell you -sm
Just because it is on a list does not mean you have to do it. I planned my whole wedding well in advance and it all went great. All we did was a wedding in my parents back yard, had about 40-50 guests, had food catered and enjoyed ourselves. I did get a cake though (my 1st and only wedding hopefully) as I had this vision of how I wanted certain things to be, flowers and a wedding dress; but that is about as traditional as I went. We had a swim party reception; no DJ, just the radio playing. Still somewhat expensive, all in all it cost about $5K, that is everything from flowers to the honeymoon, but in terms of the big picture rather reasonable. As for a wedding gift to hubby, we sort of did that, but not on the wedding day. He ended up buying me china on our honeymoon (found a complete set of 9 of some beautiful Wedgwood in Canada for $400, so we stamped it up); and I got us a weekend package to the Pocono's for race weekend (Nascar) as a 1-month anniversary gift. Just go with your gut and don't get pressured into doing anything you do not want to do; and have fun!
Don't let these lists influence you..just get.
xx
Yeah but so why do they buy lists
of people with bad credit and inundate them with offers of credit cards (at huge interest fees of course). And people who have filed bankruptcy, they can't give you enough credit after that.

I'm not saying everyone who files bankruptcy is scamming the system but the ones who do by running up as many charges as they can before declaring it so they don't have to pay for any of it really tick me off and they totally get away with it. And I think the credit card companies just write it all off anyway. Meanwhile those of us who are plugging along and paying them off, albeit it slowly, are treated like second class citizens.
you can choose a realtor who uses/lists
with the MLS service. We've moved a lot and never would use a realtor who didn't.

We had luck too before listing in the LA Times or San Fran papers when we had a place in the country/mid USA..had a party fly out to see it, and paid cash. Appeal to what people are wanting, ie, escape the high crime, the crowded city, live surrounded by nature/georgeous trees...good luck!
Shelties or Australian Sheep Dogs are great family dogs. rm

Two of my daughters have them on their lists. Found them at K-Mart for 29.99 nm

Pet food - is there a web site that lists all the foods being recalled? nm

Worried about my golden retriever.

Here is a great site that lists all current deals on CCs......
Use the drop down menu to search the different features. I have used it to find balance transfer deals, etc.
Try the shelter because they usually know
about low rates for getting them fixed. Some do very low cost according to your income. Pretty kitty....
There is one shelter here
that will not allow the pits to be adopted, others might be similar but 1 only lets rescues get them so the shelter not responsible. I just wish I had 24/7 to work exclusively for the animals. They are just my heart. The group I am with has taken cats/kitties, paid for spaying or neutering, vetting and then no charge just to get them forever homes. This is the real joy in my life. I wish we could do runs and take animals to other parts of the country where there is a lack of them. So many, so little time.
These dogs appear to be puppy mill producing dogs.
The two females, which I thought were older, appear to be just worn out/depleted. Their teeth are those of a 3-5 year old dog. So, I do believe they have had litters each cycle and are suffering from malnourishment.

Funny thing, yesterday, they were covered with mud (it rained and they were digging) and this morning, I look out and see they have all been grooming as they are clean.

Called Love of Animals who has committed to spaying/neutering the animals, giving them their shots, flea repellant and showing them at Pets Mart on Sundays. In a few months, there will be a regional dog show at the local college where on average 150 dogs are adopted out and she asked that I keep them until then.
Which I will...And a girl saw the ad for the Lost Pets and is looking for a replacement for her Shi Tzu she lost a year ago and will come by tomorrow morning.
I've seen Smokey and Bandit show up on other top 10 lists. Sadie?? nm

Love the "family tree" idea! My lists inside.........
Let's see........

Jewerly for girls - name bracelets and necklaces.

Name poems and frames (still get updated requests for these and will be on my list this year). Those kind that say J is for so and so, etc.

Rice socks one year.

Candles and lotions. I bought the kits to do this with at Hobby Lobby and let my kids help make them.

Keepsake boxes. I got the copy paper boxes that are very sturdy, wrapped in material, and decorated the box and top. Makes really good keepsake boxes and you could also do several sized boxes too.

Photo albums - also bought plain and decorated with material, ribbons, buttons, etc. Picture frames could be done the same way.

One year we made stones for the grandparents. Bought the kits at Hobby Lobby and decorated with stones and engraved sayings on them. You could do hand prints or just about anything. For my mom, we made memory stones of my sister, my grandmother, and my grandfather. We just put one that said "in loving memory of" and the other's with their names on them. She put them in her rose garden.
Shelter cats
I totally understand that you are making the best decision for yourself, but I have to say I don't understand a Shelter saying your home is not good for a cat, how about a 8-10 year old cat, that's not very old, and to save a life they can learn to live harmonously with yappy dogs. JMO. I hope in the future you might feel comfortable to get one, they are a joy when you have one that wants to be with you.
shelter mutt,

Aww! That is great that you got shelter..sm
dogs. They need homes too. I guess we should all do that too. :)
yes, they are a no-kill shelter - at least they said so! nm

She got her at the Animal Shelter in Lancaster, PA SM
She is the most darling cat and so very beautiful!  She looks sooo much like the picture! Nina is very elegant. She is adored and lives in a lovely condo in Lancaster with my niece and her very number one fan, Nicole, my niece's 10-year-old daughter!  They have since gone back to the shelter about a year ago and adopted a male cat, Reuben. He is a pretty beige/rust color, has outgrown Nina by a mile and is just an absolute love!!  He refuses to drink out of his bowl, and when his aunt (me) babysat them this summer I spoiled them just a tad. Now my niece has to turn on the water in the kitchen sick for the kids to drink!!  LOL
Oh I am so glad to hear there is a shelter...sm
that does give pits a chance. I love em. I love all dogs.
One time I went to my local animal shelter
and was thinking about getting a second dog. I already have a German Shepherd, and thought that she may like a playmate. My husband and I saw the cutest golden retriever/yellow lab mix puppy, and they wouldn't even let us in the kennel to see the dog without filling out a bunch of paperwork. We told them that we probably weren't even going to adopt that day, but we still would have had to fill out all of the paperwork just to go in and meet the dog. I think it's great that they care so much about making sure these animals go to good homes, but sometimes they make the process almost impossible, making less people want to go through the process and actually adopt. I think that personal references and even meeting with you in your home are great, but a home inspection? That's a bit extreme. It's not like you adopting a human child here.
Also try local no-kill animal shelter

My sister's first dog was an AKC standard American Eskimo she got from a no-kill shelter.  He was supposed to be a show dog, but wasn't *perfect*, so his original owner considered him a worthless mouth to feed and left him at the shelter.  For my sister's family, he was a beautiful and loving pet for many years.  You will pay for the necessary shots and probably to have your pet *fixed* as well as perhaps a bit of a mark-up to support the shelter, but you will have a healthy pet, and you will get the one you see.

My sister's current dog is an AKC Pomeranian she got from a Pomeranian rescue organization.  Again, she got a beautiful and loving dog.  His original owner had decided that he was just too much trouble.  If I remember correctly, the rescue service had pictures of available pets on their Internet website.  Again, there was a good-sized fee to cover having him checked out by a vet and *fixed* with again probably a bit of a mark-up to support the organization.  She had to drive a ways downstate to get him - they would not just ship him.

My sister considered the fees reasonable.  As she says, it's a reminder that this is a living creature whose life has value, not a toy to be played with for awhile and then discarded.  I hope you will be as fortunate as my sister has been in whatever way you find your pet.

this is a great post; I have shelter pets.

I have my dogs on it, and yes all my past dogs but 2 have died -sm
from cancer. But I had 2 schipperkes on Frontline for years and one died at 13 from cancer, the other at 16 just from old age/kidney failure. My last husky was 8 when she died from cancer, but I have had one die at 2 (unknown causes), and another at 9.5 from liver cancer (she actually made a nice recovery but succumbed about 6 months later), but huskies don't tend to live past 10 unfortunately. I have had purebreeds and mutts, and with or w/o Frontline/Advantage they have all died from cancer. I suppose it is possible that it causes it, but if you live long enough, cancer will most likely be your cause of death, anything and everything causes cancer anymore. I hate fleas and ticks and we have lots of them, so the dogs get the Frontline except in the cold winter months. They are 6 and 3 and both doing quite well.
And dogs don't bite right? Love my dogs but I
nm
my dogs are basically indoor dogs sm
but have a doggie door to go in and out as they please. Sometimes our Jack Russell gets excited and barks inside the house. My DH grabs is belt and snaps it and the loud noise shuts her up right away. I am not trying to frighten our dog, but many times just saying knock it off doesn't work.
Your tax dollars already go to the local shelter/animal control...sm

Police Dept., or whoever handles animals in your community.  I hate to break it to you, but you're *already* paying for it.  So why not have your tax dollars spent on spay/neuter, education, and training programs thru the shelter *instead* of having to be spent (as they currently are) on housing, feeding, and ultimately euthanizing so many animals?  Because a TON of $$$ is spent on that now.  Look it up for your community.  You'll probably be shocked at the costs.

Honestly, looking at it strictly from the financial aspect of it, it would cost *less* to do more spay/neuter and education.  We have it completely backwards.  Makes no sense.

That being said, many communities do have organizations that offer low cost spay/neuter for seniors and low income families.  And many shelters are starting to get things going in a more postive direction.  More power to them.  Now if we could only get the pet stores/puppy mills and backyard breeders under control... *sigh*

Contact your local battered women's shelter

Go out of the house to do it, call from a pay phone, not your cell phone or anywhere that it would leave a trace. They will be able to help you get out of there safely. It is dangerous to try to do this on your own, especially if your husband will come looking for you. You need the help of people who are experienced with this kind of situation and can offer you a safe haven while you are figuring out your next move.

Call them TODAY. Don't wait any longer. Just tell your husband you need to go to the grocery store (and be sure you come home with some groceries). Call them from a pay phone. If you don't know the name of your local battered women's shelter, call 1-800-799-SAFE (7233) and they can guide you. There is a link below to the National Domestic Violence Hotline.

Good luck. Please keep us updated on your situation.

Shelter said home situation not proper for older cat.

We really wanted to give an older one a home too, because our little local shelter here is PACKED with cats and the poor things only have a 'shelf life' of 7 days before they are euthanized.  We have 3 small yappy dogs and they just didn't have any older cats that they would be comfortable placing with us, and I can COMPLETELY understand that.  It's just so sad to see these cats in cages looking so sad and deserve so much better than whatever life's circumstances caused them to be brought there.  The volunteers told us more and more people are surrending their cats because they have to choose between cat food and fuel.  I'm sorry, but you can feed a cat (healthy ones anyway) the cheapest of cheap dry food, I mean, if that's what it takes to get by.  I couldn't imagine just dumping my cat off at a shelter, where you know they will be put to death...I would walk the streets and collect cans first.

Sorry for the rant.  Just so sad to think that people just throw their pets away like this...or worse and leave them outside to fend for themselves.

So no, no cats in the near future for me I'm afraid.

Definitely call Animal Shelter or Humane Society
Ours runs a once a month clinic where they will give rabies shots and spay or neuter for only $20.00.  Tell them she's a stray, hopefully they can help you.  LOL, she has chosen you and your family.  She brought her babies in the house cause she feels they'll be safe there.  Congratulations on being adopted!
What is really odd is I am waiting for this
animal to break out any minute in a song I really can recognize.
I'm Still waiting on Mr. Right. . . NM

What are you waiting for?
Just wondering why you are still trying to figure out if you will stay 7 years later?

Have you really discussed it with him? Why, what, how does he really feel now?

You need to feel love and respected and that you can love and respect someone back.

Don't wait until you are 80 and then realize you should have left!
LOL She looks like she is waiting to ...sm

I had exactly the same reaction! Kept waiting - sm
for her to 'come alive' and really dance. I think it probably came back to bite her, since Helio won the whole thing, and deservedly so.
One I was at a restaurant waiting

in line for a bathroo stall.  Finally a lady came out of onel and I went inside.  There was urine ALL OVER the seat.  I was just livid.  Okay lady, if you are too scared to sit down to pee because of the germs, then for crying out loud, WIPE UP YOUR PEE so it's not there for some total stranger to have to deal with.  Or hold it until you get home.

Gross, gross, gross.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Not all schools have a waiting list - sm
where I am the local teaching hospital does not use them at all. So fresh crop each time. I have been thinking about it too. I am 42. I need to do 3 classes first to qualify for the program. It is full-time though 5 straight semesters and I would be done, though would probably go for the more advanced degree once I had the basic one, have to get that one first though. Money is also an issue, guess I would have to hope for a full scholarship as I have no money to go to school, and of course childcare during the summer would be the other issue. Just wish the program was not "accellerated" so I didn't have to do school in the summer. A job is basically guaranteed when done too, though I am sure you don't get to offered 9-5!

some states honor common-law marriages - living together as a couple for 7+ years - and there are laws protecting the spousal unit in those cases...don't know what state you are in....but think about that....*S*
