I have a 4-year degree in Recreation Management and now I am an MT. Some of the past jobs I had in transition to finding out what I wanted to have as a career did not allow you to advance if you didn't have at least a bachelor's degree (major didn't matter). It depends on what area you are going into and whether or not you think you will do well in your college classes. If you hate school and don't want to study, why put yourself through the torture and financial. College is no joke and requires a lot of hard work.

Not hopeful at all - I guess depends on
how long of a time frame in the future. I think 2009 and part of 2010 will be awful awful awful, but maybe by sometime in 2010 it might start picking up.
Right now DH and I just say its best to stay put, not make any huge purchases and just take it a day at a time.
I guess that depends on the area you're in
I live in a very rural community and those old attitudes still hold true for the most part when hiring medical office personnel. However, when it comes to hiring medical office managers, they are looking for new hires with Bachelor's degrees in addition to experience. With all the new HIPAA laws and Medicare requirements, in addition to the many other federal regulations, they definitely are expecting a lot more. Most of the offices in my area have 1 of 2 situations happening: Either A) you've worked your way up to that position after 10-20 years in that office and learned as you went, or B) you're a new hire with a Bachelor's degree in tow.
I gotta say, Associate's degrees don't seem to be worth much anymore. Even the business school I went to to obtain my Associate's is now offering the Bachelor degrees instead. At the time, this business school offered primarily 12-month diploma programs with only a few 2-year Associate programs
Unfortunately, as the market becomes more and more competitive, you will find that an Associate's won't take you far. If you can, it would probably be in your better interest to go for the Bachelor's. A Bachelor's also gives you the opportunity to add a course here or there later on and end up in a new career field if you choose. Associate's are primarily geared toward only 1 career field.

I got two different types of ivy--sm
and some white flowering plants that look like white jasmine, but I don't think they are. They are combined in a planter with some blue colored plants that look like baby's breath, but are not. (I don't know plants well), and some red coleus.
I had thought about putting just the planters inside the box too, but the box is too deep and they would have to stand on something else inside. I would rather just add the dirt so their roots have room to grow.

Types of headphones
What types of headphones are you all using? Has anyone tried the noise-cancelling headphones or the transcription gear insight headphones? If so, how do they rate? I transcribed for seven years and used the Lanier brand and liked them. I've been a respiratory therapist for the past 5 years and am now getting back into transcription, so I'm looking for decent pair of headphones to work from home. Thanks for the help.
I have learned that in these types
of situations, it is impossible to get all the information you need to figure out exactly what is going on. Too many people gossip and pass on bad information.
On the other hand, maybe I am missing something, but it sounds like you are saying that your son broke up with this girl because he couldn't be alone with her. If that is what you mean, then I can see why she would be upset and hurt. That would look like he tossed her aside because of what he was not getting.
Spitz types
Even though they have long hair, spitz type dogs are often better for people with allergies than an oily coated breed like a lab. He's really going to have to meet the dog and see if he reacts to it.
My husband does the same types of things
He does almost all of the cooking (he is a much better cook than me), helps me clean, and does ALL of the grocery shopping! He also helps me with the laundry and makes me coffee every morning. Since he works outside of the house and I work from home, he usually goes grocery shopping on his way to work. I mean, he even does "tampon runs" for me! LOL! I feel so lucky!

I guess the government should implement a "change of life circumstances" form so we have to have approval from these people before something bad happens in our lives. They have such attitudes, don't they?

It should not matter who types it - as an MT we are bound
by rules and regulation, HIPPA, etc. If I ended up typing their report I would not tell anyone (not even DH) because that is against rules (maybe they are my own, but if word leaked out that I typed their reports it would be by my own mouth). Besides...I don't think the press can find out the name of the Transcriptionist who types the reports. If so, then it would be because the supervisor gave them your name and then she/he could get in trouble. There are just some things nobody should know, and even though they are Hollywood legends their bodies function the same way ours do and they are no different than Sam, Joe, Judy or Bob when typing a report for them.

animals and snakes, etc. with two heads. I know in some cultuers these animals are felt to be holy and a gift from God. I felt sorry for them when I saw them.

I have not heard these in medical records but here are a few terms for disabled people I hate (I am disabled): Differently abled, physically challenged and - (gag) - handicapable. Who came up with these? Admittedly, crippled does not sound right anymore and handicapped sounds passe but just plain disabled will do.

I recently relocated to Texas (I have a few co-workers/friends that visit these boards and I really don't want them to know about my daughter's situation, it's rather embarassing to me).
I'm very angered with the school system. Not just this situation but also the special ed stuff going on with my son. The district my kids are in seems too busy to really want to deal with the parent. That's why I know if I marched down there tomorrow about my daughter's punishment, I'd get nowhere but have a headache. It's just not worth it to me right now, as I'm so very busy and with the holidays, it all stinks, ya know.

i used to prefer stethoscope type

Please, actually GO to www.snopes.com and read what they have to say about this negative e-email that has been circulating for months now. Right there at snopes, they debunk/clarify all of these mean-spirited accusations.
Specifically about it being factual and verified by snopes, it is NOT verified by them. Below I copied one paragraph from snopes.com but please go there read it in full so that you can hopefully choose not to pass on this Internet e-mail full of misinformation.

I think your Halloween decorations sound great!! Pretty spooky, IMO. It depends on how you look at the situation. Halloween, in reality, is not just a fun holiday. It actually stands for All Hallow's Eve and if you are into pagan religion this is your favorite night of the whole year...it is the Devil's New Year. We have been celebrating this holiday forever, but just for fun and tricks, BUT...at the same time pagans have been celebrating "the new year."
The preacher as well as God's people come with responsibilities and duties to fulfill--a preacher just has a tougher role (leadership)to fill. Not my rule, God's rule.
At the same time, he is not supposed to totally interfere with your life. He should not judge you (10 commandments say "Thou shalt not judge") and if he has said everything you have told here, then he has placed a judgement on you, which he will be held accountable for. Sometimes Christians (regardless if Baptist, etc)can get themselves in major trouble just by the way they word something. In reality, what he should have done was just prayed to God for your family (not saying anything bad about you--just what he or any Christian who feels offended in some way should do)and asked God for His help in dealing with his feelings towards your decorations.

$54 for six weeks is a decent price. Sorry you can't watch. We were always allowed to stay for the session, and show up at the end and watch. That seems strange to me.

My newphew is on it and has lost almost all his weight. He had tried several things, including So. Beach, but nothing worked. He had gained weight after knee surgery, etc. - needed to get it off because his work is teaching martial arts!
He says the food is good. It is costly, however.
I can't afford it, so I'm just counting calories and keeping a food diary. I just write down the time, the food and the # of calories I eat throughout the day. Putting it on paper keeps me honest and I like trying to keep it at 1200 or less calories a day.

Contributions can either go to a general fund which goes toward regular expenses, i.e. lights, cleaning, etc. You may also designate that contribution to a special program, i.e. youth department, sound system, etc. All contributions that are designated can not be spent on anything else except for that particular program. As for the cards, that is a personal decision. Generally, a card to the family addressed to the spouse is sufficient. My suggestion would be to mark a date on your calendar a month from now and do a follow up call. See how the family is doing and check for any specific needs. Often times they just need to talk.... so be available.
I not sure but I believe it depends
on the risk level. There is a sex offender living directly behind us. He was a high school coach and had an affair with a student. She was 16 or 17. Her mother found a ton of revealing love letters between them and she gave him warning once if it did not stop, she is going to turn him in. It did not stop so she turned him in. The gal was willing but still he was the adult in the situation and he should not have taken advantage of her. Anyway, I have seen him exercising in the park. I don't think I have seen him at ballgames though.
