The people in the next neighborhood over have pot bellied pigs

They have three of them. They're too cute. I'm sure they eat a lot, but from what I know they're supposed to be good pets. My brother-in-law was actually going to get one once. I can't remember why he changed his mind.

pot bellied pigs
what a pet!
most are pigs....*lol*

You have been around some pigs!
My husband the exact opposite of what you list- when we first married I had bugs- he showed me how to rinse cans screw out prior to putting in garbage, things too big for garbage disposal wrapped in plastic, put in freezer until night before garbage runs, taken out and discarded- no sting for the garbage that way as still frozen by time picked up, carries liquid soap in container and paper towels with him when traveling so will have things to wash his hands with, santizes with alcohol telephones, remote controls- is a chef and would NEVER think about leaving food particles on anything- says I don’t wash dishes clean enough (my sight not as good as his) and I leave particles and he has to rewash. He buys really good cookware and he told me NOT to use a certain tool because it would scratch the pan - you know some guy or guys but you sure don’t know them all. I guess mine not passive-aggressive like the ones you have met.
Pigs at the Trough

New York Times bestseller in hardcover.  From a provocative, nationally syndicated columnist comes a blistering, wickedly funny indictment of the nexus of corporate chiefs, Wall St. analysts and lawyers who have perpetrated massive corporate fraud in America, and how these boondoggles are cheating average Americans.

Review:

A rousing call to action against special interests that have all too often triumphed over the national interest.  As only she can, Arianna Huffington breathes energy and passion into the reform agenda. A withering, breathtaking, quintessentially controversial book that will inspire, inflame, and educate. Senator John McCain

Who filled the trough?  Who set the table at the banquet of greed?  How has it been possible for corporate pigs to gorge themselves on grossly inflated pay packages and heaping helpings of stock options while the average American struggles to make do with THEIR LEFTOVERS?

Provocative political commentator Arianna Huffington yanks back the curtain on the unholy alliance of CEOs, politicians, lobbyists, and Wall Street bankers who have shown a brutal disregard for those in the office cubicles and on the factory floors. As she puts it:

“The economic game is not supposed to be rigged like some shady ring toss on a carnival midway.”   Yet it has been, allowing corporate crooks to bilk the public out of trillions of dollars, magically making our pensions and 401(k)s disappear and walking away with astronomical PAYOUTS and absurdly lavish perks-for-life.

The media have put their fingers on pieces of the sordid puzzle, but Pigs at the Trough presents the whole ugly picture of what’s really going on for the first time—a blistering, wickedly witty portrait of exactly how and why the worst and the GREEDIEST are running American business and government into the ground.

Making the case that our public watchdogs have become little more than obedient lapdogs, unwilling to bite the corporate hand that feeds them, Arianna Huffington turns the spotlight on the tough reforms we must demand from Washington.  We need, she argues, to go way beyond the lame Corporate Responsibility Act if we are to stop the voracious corporate predators from eating away at the very foundations of our democracy.

Devastatingly funny and powerfully indicting, Pigs at the Trough is a rousing call to arms and a must-read for all those who are outraged by the scandalous state of corporate America.

Right, and pigs fly. You outed yourself as pagan by the way you
made your post.
DOG FOOD FED TO CHICKENS AND PIGS

I absolutely find it hard to believe that some fool took all the recalled dog food and sold it to farmers raising chickens and pigs and that these fools bought it... now the chickens and pigs are contaminated.. Who eats chickens and pigs  WE DO... well we think India is a bad thing, dealing with the CHINESE is worse apparently, They have been adding melanine to made the protein content look higher.  THey were also caught selling off the sewage and some company extracted the fats and made lard out of them and sold that for human consumption also.

What are all these people thinking of.. other than to exterminate US dogs, chickens and cows, enough of buying from these countries.  It has to stop somewhere, they can poison our food, all in the name of the almightly dollar or YEN or whatever they use.

Disgusted

DOG FOOD FED TO CHICKENS AND PIGS
From what we just read, the recalled pet food was then sold or given to pig farmers, as well as the wheat gluten that went into the chicken food.
We had Guinea Pigs for years sm

We had two that the Pet Store said they were males .   Wrong.  The mom had 5 offspring.   One offspring was pure white which is unusual.  They make great pets.  If they would hear you rattlling papers in the kitchen they would get excited and want attention.   The last one died after 8 years.

Oh that's so funny! Pigs are kind of
like big labs, playing in their water. It's hilarious to watch them at the dog park. One of the big bushes has a moat around it that can fill with water after a rain, and every time a dog takes the plunge to wallow, the crowd wails in sympathy for the poor owner. :op
We were considering a rabbit in March but decided to go with guinea pigs instead (sm)

My daughter is 5 and really wanted a cat, but we just aren't "cat people."  We have a big dog, and she loves him but wanted something cuddlier.  We wanted something that she could help care for and play with.  We get the "pigs" out of their cage every day (we have a an indoor fence/play yard that we put on a towel to catch the pee and poop) and let them run around.  They have turned out to be a lot more fun than I thought they would.  They really don't smell as long as you change the bedding in the cage every three to four days (might go longer if you only had one).  From the things I've read and our experience, they are really gentle and tolerant (no one has gotten even an accidental bite since we got them in March, and we handle them ALL the time).

The negatives are that they are quite messy ( lots more vaccuming in the room where the cage is - again might not be as bad with only one - most of the bedding goes flying when they get to chasing each other around), and they can be noisy (especially at night when you're wanting to sleep).

They are terribly cute, and we love them but, like any animal, they are a lot of work.  I don't regret it at all, but I can see where it wouldn't be for everyone.

my neighborhood is looking better sm
and better even with the renters! LOL My worst nightmare is that I would be next to someone like HER. I will take my neighborhood and my husky dog (who digs holes in the fenced in back yard) my lovely warm house, family and all of it over her snooty neighborhood any day of the week! There is a whole lot to say for warmth and love in a HOME over the perfectly manicured lawn in the iron fist ruled neighborhood!

Sounds like you would make a great neighbor!!!!!!!!
are there bears in your neighborhood? they are not shy
nm
That sounds like my neighborhood
Don't you just love it? I hear a lot about awful neighbors and neighbors being unfriendly, and I can't even imagine. I used to just walk into my friend's house and vice versa. They're definitely like family. Unfortunately, they moved about 10 miles away, but we see each other every weekend for get togethers. In the summers we have no less than 20 kids running around pool jumping from house to house and general fun.
Neighborhood Association Would Not Allow
There are certain colors for the homes here and that would be totally out. I love my neighborhood!
Wait! No pigs in the White House, though. Nevermind..that rule has already been broken! nm
bn
Nana - you are so funny! If only pigs had fingers!! I'm gonna have to try the Got2B shampoo (nm)

In my neighborhood which is a reallly nice one, I
would not even open the door to someone dressed as a police. In fact living in Atlanta before had a person dressed as police to come to my home (after 2000) and asked to use my phone. I had storm doors on and had double dead bolt doors and I told him give me the # and I would be glad to call for him and give message. Here, 2 ladies came to my door about 2 weeks ago, cold and wanted to know if they could come in. I shook my head no. I could see them thru a window pane on my door. I do not, ever, open the door to anyone unless they are known to me. Very dangerous wherever you live and telling them your husband isn't home, OMG. Do you not have a phone to hello, call the police if he were to show up again?
Had our neighborhood yard sale on Sat.
and while one Mom had her back turned her daughter sold a $118 Lee Middleton doll for $2.  Guess the person knew what a find they had becuase they high-tailed it out of the neighborhood.  What a rotten person!
Find a kid in your neighborhood to show you! :) nm
s
I think she said in her post that it was a teenager in her neighborhood.
My daughter would do it for that amount just for spending money. I wish I could have someone come in just once a month to do major cleaning. My daughter and I with the help of my husband do cleaning every Saturday with of course spot cleaning during the week, but just once a month would be great to do the things I hate doing.
We usually go to house parties in our neighborhood. - NM

A gentleman that used to live in our neighborhood
had this happen at about the age or 65. I still don't know much of the details but his started with a terrible headache and he ended up being rushed to a major medical center and was kept there for about 45 days. This was 2 years ago. He is doing great now. Still see him out mowing, shoveling snow, walking his dog, etc. Hope all goes well with your friend.
said "used" to live in neighborhood, duh, still does. nm
!
Don't listen to the neighborhood cats! (sm)
People like that will always have something to say no matter what you do. Some people just look better with longer hair. I love short hairdos but they don't look good on me. I am 40 & my hair is right at shoulder length - it has never looked good on me shorter and I have thought about the fact that as I get older I probably will still want to keep it longer. I will always wear my hair however I want - you should too. Perhaps at your neighbors' ages they should grow up and not worry about something as silly as someone else's hair length!
Would you be annoyed if a home like this was in your neighborhood?

SEQUIM, Wash. -- It's mostly lavender, with fuchsia trim.

It's safe to say the neighbors don't like this garage/apartment in Sequim.

"It has become the focus of the community," said Brian Juel, who's view now includes the purple building. "Instead of looking at this view we're looking at this house."

But instead of letting it be, they're taking their dislike to a whole new level. Blame the bad economy or the poor housing market -- two dozen neighbors claim all the purple is driving down the value of their homes.

They've signed a petition asking the Clallam County assessor to give them a break on their property taxes because of the boldly colored home nearby.

Andrea Taylor lives next door and every day she opens her curtains and there it is.

"It's taken away from the whole character of the neighborhood," she said of the home. "When we look out and see the pristine, calm quiet and your eyes are just drawn to this purple blob."

Juel said he hasn't had much luck talking with the owners of the purple home.

"Basically it's a one-way discussion -- they haven't returned my e-mails," he said. "We've talked about individual rights but, you know, the rights of the community are kind of trespassed here, also."

Neighbors say the owners live in California and decided to style the exterior after victorian row houses in San Francisco. The owners also plan to build a new victorian home next door in a few years.

No one has moved in and the owners could not be reached for comment.

No covenants exist in this community to force the owners to change their decor. And, after all, beauty is in the eye of - in this case - the owner.

Getting the county assessor to reassess the land in the area could be very difficult to do. Even if the assessor agrees to evaluate the properties, it may not happen until 2010.

Move into an association neighborhood and
you don’t have that problem. The places are not rented out here.
My sis says buy the smallest house in a good neighborhood. n/m
.
Our neighborhood sets a date each year for
a yardsale. The neighborhood is still growing, so we usually have a really great turn out. We haven't participated in a couple of years so believe me we have the "junk" to get rid of. I just wish we would do this at the beginning of summer for a little extra spending $ for vacation.
I wish you lived in my neighborhood! I would invite you in for some coffee and a chat!
I've lived in my neighborhood for 22 years, and only four neighbors out of 20 or so even look up and say hello. It's sad. Everyone is so busy, and a few are self-absorbed. I've tried for years, invited people over, simply waved and smiled. Hardly ever an acknowledgement. If you lived in my neighborhood, I'm sure we'd be friends!
Sparklers on the 4th of July and also Tin-Can-Alley with all the neighborhood kids.
!
you can give the people the facts, but the decision making process should be left to the people

This is what our country is founded on FREEDOM OF CHOICE!   I'm laughing already; you are just as mortal as the rest of us, and don' even attempt to that you've never done anything in your lifetime that was unsafe or unhealthy. NOT gonna buy it.

it is wonderful to see how many people have such strong opinions about people in debt.

I thought that the purpose of this board was to be able to post without being judged unfairly or have somebody tell you how wonderful their personal life is, and therefore you are causing their life to be less wonderful with your irresponsibility. Well, the saying "walk a mile in my shoes" is a good one in this case.  Since you have no personal information about the person you are lambasting because they are looking for information on their debt, you can feel superior.  Had you had personal information about them, you might act in a more human manner. Consider fighting cancer for 4 years, working and being debilitated while you do, suffering the effects of chemo, going into debt to maintain your home for your children and looking for a way out of debt SHOULD YOU EVEN LIVE THROUGH THIS!!  Thank you for the kind comments.  To the judgmental people I say please take a step back before you judge.  You do not know who you are talking to and if you knew the personal information maybe your comments would be kinder.

I get frustrated by the double standard they use when judging people. They let certain people go sa
What do you think about the voting process?
People who go around calling other people "low class"
have their own issues in life. Ignore them. Nothing like a misplaced superiority complex to make a person feel good about themselves. Like they've never done anything gauche or made a faux pas. It must be nice for them to be so perfect and live in a glass house.

For that matter, you probably saved your piggy's life by popping that mondo zit! It could have gotten infected or something.... (yes, I have a zit popping fixation myself, but you were really descriptive on that pig zit. gag LOL)

Man, you would have appreciated the time one of my relative's popped a HUGE cyst on her face. I was standing right next to her at the time and leaned back because I knew it was going to blow. It did! Big time! All over the wall, mirror and light fixture. I'm still disgusted by the thought of it 10 years later. LOL In a revering kind of way...
some people did, some people didn't. It's their choice.

If this helps...I know people who know people (sm)

who can make people disappear.

Not really--I'd be lyin' if I said I never thought such things though!  ;-)

IME, people don't feel sorry for fat people either
They actually have less sympathy than they do for people who have substance abuse, IME.

At any rate, I do feel sorry for Britney but the safety of her children should be everyone's first priority, then her safety. It would seem to me that all these hangers-on she has are jeopardizing that safety. It's all just very sad.
Some people just look at me
like I am crazy. You should see the looks I get when she rides on my shoulder in the car. Most people associate rats with dirty animals, etc. They are just like a hamster, only very smart animals. Plus they don't bite like hamsters or try and get away from you. They want to be around you. They are very loyal and love attention. She's my baby.

Unfortunately, she has a cyst growing under her arm now though. She is getting old, and I know her time is coming. :(
OMG! You people are bad, bad, bad!!! I'm going to
!
For me, over 25 people to buy for......
including mine and my husband's immediate families we see separately Christmas eve and Christmas day. We also visit grandparents, aunts, cousins, etc. a week later. We don't have kids yet so still spend a few hundred on each other. It is probably closer to 1500 combined for us.
What about NJ? People here act like
they're the best beaches in the world and I can assure you they are NOT. LBI is the cute nickname now given to Long Beach Island which is a dump as are most NJ beaches and everyone acts like it's the Hamptons or something. Been to NC outer banks and loved it. No comparison.
I think there need to be more people...
in the world like you! You are doing a wonderful thing and are a shining example to your children!
Pet (Dog in particular) people -

I have a Lab/Pit mix, probably 8 or 9 years old, who has a terrible problem with itching and scratching all over.  I am hoping someone on this site has a solution for us.

I will tell you what we have tried that has not worked.

Benadryl has not worked. Seemed to help initially but stopped it and she shows no change.

Changing her food has not worked.  Have tried all kinds of food, wheat free, have not helped.

Adding oil to her food, 1-2 tablespoons of olive oil twice a day, has not helped.  Seemed to help initially but she went back to scratching.

Getting her groomed with dry skin shampoo/conditioner has not helped.

What DID help was steroid injection and prednisone pills on a tapering dose.  But once the dose was tapered down, she started scratching some.  I dont want her on steroids indefinitely.  PLUS, the steroids made her very very aggressive and being part pitbull, that was not a good thing.

When it gets to the point that she and I are both waking up multiple times during the night, I have to go back to steroids.  Before I do that, I wonder if anyone reading this has another remedy we could try before going to steroid route.

We also have a cat and I am beginning to think she may be allergic to the cat.  Do you think this is possible?  My vet technician told me it is possible but it would involve costly allergy testing and injections if it proves positive.  Would like opinions from others before I take her for allergy testing.

Any info anyone could provide would sure be appreciated, not only by me but by my best friend who is suffering with this.

Thank you!

um, a lot of people don't go to the, uh, gym.
nm
I know 5 people who have had this...sm
1 has kept the weight they lost off.

2 had major complications after the surgery and 1 almost died - he was healthy before surgery.

4 lost weight but have regained most if not all of it. You can restretch the stomach back out by eating too much.
I like those too - I know a lot of people don't :-)
x
Yes, but LL should have people to look out for her
be watched 24/7, but LL could be and should be. She should be protected and anyone with any interest in this girl, either for financial or other, such as her mother, should be helping her better than this.

IMO there is no excuse for this. Maybe I am being harsh, but give me a break already with these celebs.
Just like with people
Recovering from surgery (procedures done with anesthesia) when they're older is harder for them, and you have to be super careful that they don't have any conditions that could be worsened by the medications. Please try everything you can before getting them declawed. I'm lucky, my cats love their scratch posts, but they also love picking at the carpet. I just buy rugs and stick them all over the place!
Those people should have given you (sm)
thank you notes BUT, when you give you have to give with a free and willing heart and not expect anything in return - even a thank you - because you will only get bitter waiting. Only give when you really want to and feel the need to and you will feel better about it I think.
re: people
Just me,

The Bible says in Jeremiah 17:9:
"The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; Who can know it?"

It is our sin nature to commit sin and we're all born with it. I don't know what the percentage of sexual sin is, but I do know that it is getting more and more prevalent and has been around since bible days because we are all born sinners and we all need Jesus to save us. That doesn't mean that after we accept Jesus we stop sinning, but are more likely to be faithful when we know the Lord.

God bless!

Jan
Pod people.
It's the only explanation.  How can you not talk to people in an environment like that?!
