I do want to state that this woman is not mentally ill, her cognitive status is just fine, she has just apparently gotten sorry as heck. She has 5 children who she sees and talks to regularly and she has a grandson that lives with her who has recently gotten out of the service, he lived with her before he went in as well. She was not like this before he went in. My mother and friends had called her children in the past and discussed the situation, but apparently you cannot help someone who does not want to help themselves. If she can pick up a fork to her face she can pick up a darn washcloth! That said, I don't think it is our responsibiltiy. I have enough trouble keeping taking care of my own mother much less someone elses.
My mother will not take much of it. She just did not want to hurt her feelings, is confused as to why she does not see this herself. Like my mother said yesterday, after Mary had come over wednesday..."I'm laying there in my pajamas and bathrobe reaking of Vick's salve and hacking away and she had the nerve to say...do you want to go eat!" My mother looked at her and said "NO! I am sick!", to which the lady got up and left.
By the way it was "Wednesday-Wash-Day" when she came over but she was still in those darn clothes x 4 days, apparently sleeping in them too. They have kept the door locked.
I appreciate the many opinions. I originally posted just to remark on people's audacity.
