You are very right on so many levels. One of her last times she threatened suicide and she had even told me where to find her car and that she would leave the keys in it. I was scared to death so I called the cops. They found her just where she said her car was and they didn't do anything. Just told me that she wasn't really suicidal but did have a drug problem and to convince her to get help so that was when I took her to the hospital. I was told that sorry there wasn't much they could do because she had no insurance and noone wants to take someone without insurance. Well, that ER visit cost me over $700 for nothing. I have contacted several people and they told me to call mental help but they said I couldn't call because she is over 18 and she has to be the one who called. I'm frustrated and realize that until she wants help I can't do a thing for her. I truly appreciate all the advice. It has given me hope that there are options out there. I just wish she would follow up on the help. The worst part, because she is homeless, when she calls to say she is jumping off an overpass into oncoming traffice, I have no place to tell the police to find her but I can tell you..if she ever does it again, I will call the police again and again. As a defiant teenager, the police were called to my house on numerous occasions and just told me she needed a kick in the pants to straighten her up. Even the police chief came over (we live in a pretty big city) to talk to her, and by the time, he was done, his face was so red and I thought he would lose it right there (she has that effect on everyone). I'm pretty sure he wanted to paddle her for being so mouthy and rude but he couldn't. That's when they took her to the psychiatric hospital who after 5 days let her out because her insurance wouldn't authorize any more time. I just give up. My heart will never stop loving her but I give up.
