Tattoos what happens when you get old?

I don't have any but always wonder what happens if you get a tattoo in your 20's and then around mid 60's skin getting old what would it look like? Also do they fade in time? Do you have to redo it? Dd has friends with some and they are young and look fine but always wonder what happens as you age?
