Today, I was working on my son's room. We have purchased him new furniture and we are having new carpet put in his room (this is the "start" area of renovations on our house). A few days ago, I decided to go ahead and paint the room before the carpet gets put in because the color that it is there presently is just "UGLY!"
I get in there and starting painting today. Does my 9yo son even offer to help..... no. Did I really expect him too... not so much but the offer would have been nice. Anyway continuing on.. my daughter, who is 8, wants to help, but now granted she is a "big time" helper with everything. This is the child that helps me wash clothes and I mean to the point she loads the washer, puts detergent/downy in and starts it and then switches it to the dryer when necessary. She loves to learn anything. He does too, just not so much when it comes to "decorating."
Through all the painting, I more than appreciated her help. All of our computers are set up on a network with certain folders shared and she sent me this "story" and I just wanted to share it with all the mom's and dad's out there as this just proves more and more, let the kids be involved in everything. You will be surpised at what it truly means to them, and please remember this is written by 8yo so ignore spelling :) Also I know this is a bit long, but I really wanted to share this.
Today I got to use a rolling paintbrush it was really heavy. Although it was really fun. I got to bond with mom I got to finally got to paint on walls although it took a lot of work butt it all paid off. Mainly I got to bond with mom so it was a blast I wanted to shote WAHOO. The end. I LOVE YOU

Speaking of B'day surprises....
We were married 9 years ago at a Holiday Inn Convention Center room that was just a perfect place to have a wedding at. Well, they tore down the building and replaced it with a smaller hotel. During the time it was being torn down, we would happen to drive by and I would make comments about never getting to renew our vows there or spend an anniversary there because of it no longer being there. On my birthday a couple years ago he gave me this box that was extremely heavy. When I opened it, there lay four red bricks. I'm looking at him strangely as I am reading the note enclosed then the tears start falling. He is a police officer in the city where the building we were married in was being torn down and he was able to get these bricks from the building after telling the construction crew about us being married there. I know it sounds crazy, but he couldn't have bought me anything expensive that would have matched those bricks. They are priceless and definitely my most favorite gift from him. We now have four children and my plans are as each one gets older, I will let them decorate the brick with paint, pictures, etc of special things to them or memories they have of the family. My only problem is I don't know what to do with them after that. We have a fireplace and I think arranging them someway on that will be neat, but that's down the road a ways as they are still young. Well, back to the original topic of this post, it doesn't matter if the gift is expensive or not. A gift from the heart is what makes it special.
