So, June Cleaver... what do you pack for lunch?

Posted By: sm on 2007-03-29
In Reply to: Pack them a decent lunch. That is garbage. - shame on you

Finger sandwiches? Please. It is one meal of the day and kids would eat far worse if given lunch money. Now why don't you run along and iron your aprons or something :)

Which in this case is you and the rest of your family. I would suggest putting her crate in an area of the house where you guys are, *especially* at night, so she doesn't feel isolated. Can you put her crate in your bedroom at night, right by your bed?

I also agree with letting her gradually have more and more freedom out of the crate as she matures and is trustworthy not to chew things and is completely housebroken.

My last and probably most important piece of advice is to make sure she's getting plenty of exercise, especially before she goes into the crate. I have 4 indoor dogs, and I've found that exercise is a cure for many, many things. (There's a saying in dogs: "A tired dog is a good dog." So true!) A lot of dogs just simply don't get enough exercise, physical and mental, to tire them out. All that excess energy and frustration has to come out somehow. Maybe that's what's happening with her? Take her for walks, through a ball, etc. I personally use a device called a Springer that attaches to a bicycle and lets me safely take each of my dogs for a nice long run (without wearing me out!) You can find it here: http://www.springerusa.com/ (I do *not* use the safety release that comes with it, and I use a better harness than the one that comes with it, but I have big, strong dogs.)

You can also get a dog backpack for the dog to wear with something in the backpack to add a litte weight and help tire her out more than just walking will.

Some dogs are also just very sensitive to changes in the household. Maybe she's picking up on the hustle and bustle of this time of year and is stressed by it. (If so, exercise with be a release for that.)

Please keep us posted and feel free to share more info. and I may have more ideas. ;o)

We usually go end June or early
July, but this year we waited until the first week of August and was already better on crowds!
A little old (like me) - exp. June གྷ
Okay, I'm only 34, but I feel a lot older!

I've had the strips for awhile, but they are consistent in giving me about the same numbers. I will be scheduling with the doc soon, so we'll see. I'm at least being more careful and paying more attention now.
Since June of 2007, my check has been
cut in half thanks to MQ. This will be the last year in an apt I love but cannot afford so will be downsizing. Thankfully, working at home cuts down on gas. My car is leased and I will be turning that in in April and will buy a used car. I go out to dinner once a month now, if that. I rarely order out and if I do, it is because I made a few extra dollars and want to treat myself. I went on a budget plan for gas and electric. I have basic cable now. I lowered my cell phone plan to $22 a month with 64 minutes per month. I am trying to quit smoking.

Being single, it is very hard as there is not another income to count on but I manage and am trying to come to terms that I can no longer live the type of lifestyle I had become accustomed to.

I think it has impacted all of us in some way and it helps to know I am not alone. We just have to do the best we can with what we have. I feel bad for those with children as that must be very hard making ends meet.
Not until June 7th...Cant wait to have my girls home all day!! nm

This is the baby I want to buy. He was born in June - and is a teacup sm
Yorkie! If I can get him shipped, HE'S MINE!  He will be as big as my Diet Dr. Pepper can! I LOVE these things...isn't he precious????
'Ima June Bugg' sounds like something you'd name
(Lots of registered Quarter Horses have names with Ima in front of them... i.e., 'Ima Scooter', 'Ima Real Star', etc.) Anyway, that's what came to mind when I read that name!
;)
Oh, I would have dropped everything! Celebrating 15 years of marriage in June!

My b-day is also June 14th!! Happy B-Day from a "Flag Day Sister"!! I used to think when I w
little that they put the flags up just for me. Parents never told me any different until I was in my early teens! We share a special day!

What would you all do? My SIL is making my DH attend my nephew's HS grad in Texas this June...sm

We live in Illinois.

He would be taking my youngest son with him also.  The total cost of the trip for the two of them would easily be $2000 since my DH does not get paid for taking time off work.  If he takes this trip that would mean no vacation for me or my other two kids next year since that's pretty much all we can afford is one vacation a year.  She is insisting her only brother (DH) be there at the actual ceremony which is on a Tuesday evening.  Then afterwards they plan on going out to dinner to celebrate - no party that would be it.

I would rather we go the following week, drive the entire family and stay the week and celebrate the whole week with them.  My son graduates high school in two years and I don't expect her to be at the ceremony for that.  We probably wouldn't have enough tickets for her anyway.

DH doesn't have the guts to tell her "No" since she's laying the guilt trip pretty thick.

Do you think we are obligated to go to the ceremony?  She has more than enough family members that live over there that could attend (grandparents, aunts, uncles, her other children).

Thanks for any input.

Checks could be in taxpayer mailboxes by June, according to an Associated Press report.

Birthdays. Mine was completely forgotten by everyone! June 14, Flag Day. sm

Mom & Dad, longterm boyfriend, best friend, brother, I teach a kickboxing class and last class I randomly said *I will be teaching on Sunday, which is my birthday, so be prepared for a killer workout" - maybe I was hoping for a few Happy Birthdays... not a call, not a card!  I kind of cried tonight in the shower... I'm over it now, (well maybe not really!) but should I bring it up tomorrow?  I know B-days are for children, but I just wanted to be treated just a little bit special on this day!  I've had a hard year with some illness and kind of thought maybe somebody would want to celebrate me!  So here I am working tonight - but I think I might have to head out to Dairy Queen for a Blizzard before they close.  I think something gooey and chocolatey is needed.

Go PACK!

I have and always will be a diehard Packers fan! LOL@ the Vikings fan because my closest friend is also a fan of theirs and it has always been a source of teasing between us! She has come up with some very creative names for the Pack which I cannot repeat here. lol, and the Vikings became the ViQueens through the years. :) All in fun, don't bash me.

I have never seen a broadway play but hope to someday.

Pack leader
Some dogs are very strong personalities and need to have a strong-minded person as an owner that has no doubt as to who is leader of the pack (and it should not be the dogs). If the dogs are dictating who is allowed in and out and who the territory belongs to, they are in charge and as you pointed out, it isn't the breed so much as the owner.
GO PACK! GO BRETT!
I've been to Lambeau only once but really loved it! Greenbay is about 3 hours from where I used to live so we didn't treck up there much. Especially in the snow!
I would buy a pack, but not 2 packs

Also pack anything you buy in your carry-on - sm
one of my group made the mistake of packing her stuff in her luggage, every single thing was stolen that she bought there. I took mine in my carry-on bag, as did everyone else but her. Just be smart and aware.
I'll help you pack...

This is the first year I haven't had a garden and I'm totally bumming now that everyone's harvest is in.  My downfall are the little sweet cherry tomatoes that are all warm from basking in the sun all day and wicked sweet...I ate so many one year I swear I was pooping crushed tomatoes!  Totally gross but it was what it was.  Man, they really were just like candy!

Congratulations on your harvest!

I just bought a starter pack today
I'm going to give it a whirl. I figure I have about 40 pounds to lose to get back to where I was for most of the years between having my son at age 25 in 1987, and my daughter at age 38 in 2000. After gaining the pregnancy weight in 2000, I really barely lost any of it and now nearly 7 years later am about 10 pounds up from that. So, I'm going for about 40 pounds but 30 would probably make me happy. I figure since I work at home, if I end up with the "alli oops" at least I'm right by the bathroom.
Your post says exactly what mine did. Animals are pack
fa
Guys tend to pack light, and
probably would be embarrassed by something you were calling a hope chest. Nothing wrong with having a bin with practical essentials for them to take with them, but if it goes beyond what they can see they'll need immediately when they venture out on their own, they might leave it behind. And if it is girly or can't take a beating or isn't flexible about going from DW to MW to oven, it's not going to get used IMO.
What's for lunch?
I'm sick of the same ole, same ole . . . need new ideas!
lunch
My husband works 12-hour shifts. He takes 2 meals to work with him. Usually a can of soup, a salad and 2 sandwiches, crackers and a few sodas to last him the 12 hours. For him to eat 2 meals out everyday would be way too expensive.

All through my kids' school years, they asked to carry their lunch. Said the school lunches were too nasty to buy. I made a sandwich, crackers or chips, a piece of fruit and a cookie.

Working at home, I eat whatever is here.

I cook 5 out of 7 dinners a week. Even fast food is getting too expensive with 2 older sons and a husband, usually for the 4 of us and fast food, we spend $25 to $30 per trip.
Midlothian, Virginia - would pack and move back now
if I could!
Pack the cookies in more than 1 reusable container with lots of wax

Lunchables. Lunch box or not? (sm)

I put the grandkids on the bus in the mornings and they like to take lunchables, however they don't want to put them in their insulated lunch bags, just throw them in their back pack.  They insist "everybody" does this.  I am a worry wart when it comes to not keeping food properly refrigerated.

Am I being paranoid, is this safe?

re: lunch while typing
Just FYI....NEVER try to eat ramen noodles while you are typing!!! Not a pretty site...LOLOLOL...just a thought to lighten the load!!! hehehehe
And maybe one of them works during lunch.

lunch ideas
Does anyone have any ideas for quick lunches that are yummy?  I live by myself and really do not cook a big meal that often so leftovers are usually out of the question although family members will bring me some goodies from time to time.  What I really need are good lunch ideas for one person.  I get so tired of eating soup and salads.  Open for suggestions!!  TIA
DH and I are w/my family for lunch

and his for dinner.  I have ex-aunt that still gets invited to holiday get togethers since she was married to my uncle for so long and her kids and now a grandaughter will be with us.  She and a real pain in the but.  Even when it is not her house she tries to dominate everything.  Where everyone should sit, when we should eat, the conversation somehow always revolves around her.  She will ask you a question and even before you finsih answering she is off talking about something else.  We basically just roll our eyes and try to avoid her.  This year she wrote a letter to my mom asking her to  move her Christmas Eve plans to a different time (have been doing the same thing for years) to make it easier on her.  Not going to happen.

At DH's house his mother was in a really pissy mood when we first arrived.  I like her most of the time, but lately I have found that I just tend to tolerate her.  She and I have never had any problems but I think her getting older is starting to take its toll.  She and I differ anyway.  Every Thanksgiving it is the same, everyone that comes brings a couple of dishes but she also does some of the cooking.  She doesn't clean up as she goes along, so the sink is always full of dirty dishes before dinner starts and I can guarantee you when we start to clean up we will find that the electric dishwaher ( I am the human one) is full of clean dishes.  This year as soon as we got there she took a hot pot off the stove and put the food into a serving dish.  I decided to go ahead and wash it.  The pot was extremely hot so I turned on the cold water to cool it off just a bit before I washed it.  She came to the sink and turned the hot water on.  I politely said "I was just trying to cool if off a bit before I stuck my hands in it."  "No, that is not the way I do it".  I was stunned.  I have been married to her son for over 20 years and I always wash the dishes.  I don't mind that I certainly am going to do my part.  But this year I said, "well if you want me to leave these for you to do, fine."  I did help clean up after dinner but I did not put my hands in any dishwater.  Besides they were still a bit pruned from cleaning up after lunch. LOL!

Btw, this is the same woman who gives me something that she collects every year for Christmas even though I and her daughter have very politely let her know this is not something I want.

"I had lunch with a snowman
Cause Big Bird said he's my leader...too funny!
Lunch spending
My husband usually brings leftovers for lunch. I give my daughter $20 for lunch at school (to put in her lunch account), and that usually lasts a week. My other daughter is home by lunchtime and she eats what we have here at home. We spend about $100 a week on groceries. On the weekends we usually go out at least once, maybe twice for lunch and spend anywhere from $15-$25 depending on where we go. My oldest is a vegetarian so we actually save money because if we get takeout, she usually doesn't find anything that she wants to eat. When I was working outside the home I spent way to much on lunch every day, usually about $50 a week.
Can't you pack hot stuff in a thermos? Chili, soup, stew,

Better question to ask..... Do they get full at lunch? sm
My youngest who took those finally asked me 1 day to add a sandwich as those just did not fill her up. She is a very petite 8 year old who is very active. They are just not enough!! :)
I also watch while typing or at least try to eat lunch then
I read that the audience will slowly find out who all is in the accident. Like yesterday just about Nick, Sharon, and Jack. I know Cane, Katherine, Lauren, Paul, and the lady cop (can't remember her name). also Victoria (we already know this), JT, and I suppose Adrain. What about Amber? Not sure about her. I think I saw her with blood on her in a preview.
It is worth the wait, but you could go for lunch and not
xx
H went and talked the director at lunch.

She said she was just worried that she might be sick.  She said dd would cry like the whole world caved in and then the next minute she would be happy and play as if she didn't have a care in the world.  I don't really know what it is about.

I haven't taken my own medication for a few days and I guess it has brought out my paranoia.  I have never been as bad off as my cousin but I do take antidepressants.  Yeah, we live in a small town and people like to talk.

Okay, what does your family spend on lunch

What's the family lunch budget for kids and husbands?

Us that work at home don't get a lunch budget I know

PUMPKIN PIE. Breakfast, lunch and dinner! n/m
.
She called twice at lunch and I just didn't answer.

I know she won't listen to me as to why I won't buy, it is not the products it is the issue of having to buy every freak'n month.  That is the isssue.  At least that is how I perceived this from my mom.  I am just going to half to tell her no that if she has nothing else to say go home or hang up I am busy.

As far as the weight issue is, I am sure she wanted to know she she can tell everyone that "well at least I don't weigh as much as cousin because she weighs blah blah blah."  I know that is how she is. As far s the doctor weighing me, I am not sure.  I think maybe some birth control methods doesn't work for women over a certain weight is the only thing I can think of.  I bet though when he dictated his note about me it started with  "this obese 32 YO" LOL.

anonmt-is your husband eating his lunch all by himself?

So sorry to be nosy, but it's been a few days since you posted and I am genuinely concerned about you.  Has he been dumped?

Live alone, don't eat lunch. Usually don't eat until late afternoon.
