Lice can't be smothered! You have to kill them. Get the Rid or the Nix or whatever. Any critters

lol, about the head lice comment
never thought of that, and would not be surprised if that was it, she's pretty filthy. Dollars to donuts that was why she shaved the other *hair* LOL!
You can get head lice from the movies, day camp, doctor's offices, anywhere!! nm

Critters
The difference is more between mice and men!
Get the mouse traps, get the D-Conn, or whatever floats your boat and start the war!
You will have to search the house for all the possible entries. If you have an attic, start with the traps/poison there. They can fit through a hole the size of a dime and they don't nest far from a food source. Look for droppings. Check out cupboards, cabinets, drawers, oven drawers, etc. If you search hard and long you will more than likely find evidence of their existance.
If you use poison, you risk the chance of a dead mouse in an inaccessible place resulting in a stench for about a week that you will never forget. Don't use the poison if you have pets, unless you can put it down where a pet absolutely cannot access. If you use traps, remember, where there's one mouse, there's 10 of his friends and relatives waiting in the wings. Forever and ever keep a few traps scattered about then check them periodically through the year to see if you have a problem.
You could always try rent-a-cat as an alternative!
New critters
Hi all!
I haven't posted on here in awhile but I just HAD to tell you all that I have adopted two new 9 wk old baby gerbils! One is tan and creamy colored and her name is Perky and the other is pitch black and her name is Chloe. Just for all those animal lovers out there thought you might like to know! My kitty is having a slight problem with this as she feels they are for her to play with but I am training her by squirting her with water when she gets near the cage to leave them alone.
Hope you're all having a blessed day!
Jan
my critters esp
my lovie dovie cat, the sweetest cat with the silliest behavior, like jumping in the bathtub every time i sit on the pot so she can play hide and seek behind the curtain... and josie-jo my aussie dog who plays with my cats, my new stray pumpkin, and my old cat traveler...my kids and grandkids, in no particular order :)
Invasion of critters
I know the feeling, during a drought about 15 years back, our little creek was a great water source for all kinds of critters...including swarms of rats and mice. One of the pesky critters (a rat) actually chewed up through my floor and went running through the kitchen under my new stove...with no place to go from there the rat was cornered. Well my DH can't stand a rat, so he gets out his 22 rifle and sits on the couch and waits on the rat to poke his head out..now mind you this is a BRAND NEW STOVE and back in those days $$$ were tight and I wasn't about to get another one.. I put the warning out.. you had better not hit my stove... After about 2 hours of intense waiting the rat finally appeared and boom... no more rat.. but my stove was still intact. That DH is a dead-eye... Anyway for the other 50 or so critters we got a poison called Blue Death from the local Farm Bureau Co-Op. Put it out in the barns and under the house and every day there would be 7 or so dead rats in the yard, etc. It killed them almost instantly. The guy said that it would make them have an insatiable thirst for water, thus leading them down towards the creek.. or we put out pans of water...when they drank the water they would bloat up, etc. Sort of like the COCA COLA theory, only much quicker. I guess rats can't burp. He was right too, we never did have one die in the house or in the walls, but it was a pretty nasty chore every morning to clean up the remains with the shovel... Uck!
Oh those poor little critters!!! LOL nm

Oh! Head in the SAND! I thought you said head in the CAN!

Another tip on the lice
Put all dolls, stuffed animals that cannot be washed in garbage bags tied shut for at least 2 weeks. Make sure and wash pillows, blankets, bedspreads, combs, brushes, hair bows, clips, barettes, pony tail holders, etc. Wash any jackets they've recenty worn. Spray all upholstered furniture and mattresses and air out, then vacuum thoroughly! Vacuum carpet. Spray and vacuum your vehicle, too. The little critters are tenacious!
Been there, done that, shoulda had a T-shirt!!! I feel for you!!
lice
My kids got headlice a couple of years ago. Everything I read said that getting it has nothing to do with how clean you keep yourself and nothing can prevent it other than avoiding close contact with someone else who has it or avoiding having coats hung close together. Since both of those happen at school there is really nothing you can do to prevent it and just have to keep a close eye out for it so if one kid does get it it doesn't spread to the rest of the family and it's easier to get rid of before it reproduces. Some people want to wash regularly with lice shampoo as a preventative measure but supposedly that would be toxic to you if you used it regularly.
Has anyone ever used Vasoline to get rid of lice? If so, sm
The girl that cuts our hair suggested we use Vasoline on our three daughters to get rid of the lice. I used that, but am having a hard time getting the Vasoline out!! I tried using Dawn dish soap to cut through the greese. That helped some. I also read that peanut butter will get it out...so we used that also! This all worked fine on my daughter with fine, thin hair, but my other two have very thick hair and it is not helping them! Please help if you have any ideas or if you have ever done this treatment! Thanks!!
Any advice for lice? - sm
My kids came home with this almost 2 months ago, got rid of them (I think---all 4 of us had them and 3 of us are clean now), but 2 weeks ago my older daughter had a new outbreak. I have treated 3-4 x with Rid and Nix (Nix the second time around per doctor), olive oil, and listerine/vinegar. Called the doctor again last night begging for the prescription (they don't want to give it unless all other remedies fail) after I found 2 live lice on her head, an adult male and female, lucky me. My daugher's head appears to be nit free, though she does have a lot of dandruff now between the lice making it and the poisons I have put on her head. Now the doctor wants me to try 50:50 of mineral oil and vinegar. I could not do it last night as I had already had her wash her hair after I found the 2 lice (did Nix again last night). I am so sick of these things. I have washed, and washed, and washed, vacuumed, etc. until I never want to wash or vacuum another thing in my life. My kids stuffed animals, etc. have been bagged up in the garage now for 8 weeks.....never undid them luckily....so at least I had a little less to do this time. ----the other thing that tics me off is the girl next to my daugher on the bus has them too, probably from mine but who knows, and the policy is that the child has to contain their hair for a week or two until the nurse declares her clean. This girl is not pulling her hair back in a ponytail because she does not like them. I complained to the nurse once, and am doing so again today. So that probably is not going to change so I had the bus driver move my daughter today from that seat....they sit 3 to a seat and they are mashed together, hence easy transfer of a bug crawling from one head to another. My daughter was not happy about it, but this other girls mother is convince they are "cured" as she put listerine on her daughter's head and said she is fine now. If one time fixed it then lice would not be such a problem. I really think this lady is in LA la land considering the trouble I am having, and I have combed, and combed too, so I am not doing the half-assssseeedddd either. So does anyone have anything that they swear by? I know I could make my kid go to bed with mayo on her head for 10 days straight and that would in theory eradicate them, or any smothering agent, and it may come to that, but if anyone has anything else, please feel free to tell!
No. I have heard that lice do not like
coconut scented shampoo, but I don't know of one that prevents it.
Getting rid of lice without the medicated stuff
My daughter also developed an allergy after multiple treatments (we finally found out that they had infested the rug in the reading area). My grandmother told me that before they had those shampoos this is what they did.
My mother says mayonaise works but I was at my wits end so I went all out.
On Friday night I washed my daughters hair (which was down to her butt)
We then took Vaseline and worked it into her hair. making sure that every bit of her hair was covered. Sounds gross I know. We then braided the back of her hair and stuck it in a sock, We then fashioned a kerchief over her head to keep it all covered. We left it this way until Saturday evening ( we made a day of it watching movies ordered pizza played board games to keep her mind off of it).
On Satuday evening we took Dawn dishwashing liquid and washed her hair a couple of times. The combed the nits out. Nothing was alive.
Her hair was a little oily for a day or two but we washed it each night with a shampoo for oily hair. It worked great.
Also for the rest of the school year we have problems with other kids never really getting rid of their lice but she never got them again but per G-ma's advice she did not go to school with her hair loose the rest of the year. It was always neatly french braided with some styling gel over it to hold it and I was told that the gel also deterred the lice.
Good luck feel free to message me if you have any questions
I tell you what shampoo WILL prevent lice...sm
At Sally's the generic Paul Mitchell's tea tree oil shampoo. Tea Tree Oil kills lice so if you shampoo with it it prevents them. It is not a lice killer it is just regular shampoo. It smells a lot like peppermint to me. I used it when my son started kindergarden because I didn't want him to get lice. Kids in his clss had it and he never got it. It is a little expensive but worth it to me.
I use One Source, ..
whether they are any better or not, I really don't know, but when I think to take them, I can tell a difference, I just haven't been taking them faithfully..
I have been told that lice don't like dirty hair - sm
and when there is an outbreak at school to use mousse in the hair as it is sticky, etc. and the lice don't like it. Don't know if it is true but it makes some sense, though if this girl is always dirty and still has lice (especially if they like clean heads) then that kind of makes no sense. I am not sure of our schools policy but I think it is one where the kid is not allowed back until they can prove they don't have it any longer. So far we have had no lice reports this year, had about 3 last year. My DH has a cow over them and I tell my girls not to share hats, combs, brushes, etc. , and when we have the lice scares I use mousse on them for a week or so. So far so good. ---One solution they could do for the girl is to shave her head, no hair, no lice, though it is a drastic solution but I know a family that did that as they had a strain of resistant lice that just would not go away no matter what they did.
how ignorant to compare lice with neglect.
It's merely a case of misinformation or improper education to her family on how to treat the problem, in no way is lice infestation and lack of getting rid of them completely a sign of neglect.
Maybe this mom just plain doesn't understand how to get rid of them completely or perhaps there are other things going on in her life that this isn't getting dealt with properly. They need support not ridicule as some of the posters have said - obviously since you've been there you should know it isn't as easy as people think to get rid of them.
I've never heard that it prevents lice. That's a new one to me.
I always thought that children's shampoos were marketed saying that they didn't sting the eyes. I never found that to be true, however. Johnson's Baby Shampoo stings my eyes. Some contain detanglers, but I had boys who always had short hair, so that wasn't an issue for us. From the time they were babies until now, I've always bought whatever was on sale or least expensive. Most times, that turns out to be Suave.
Going to the source and this is what the CDC states about
HPV in men.
http://www.cdc.gov/std/hpv/STDFact-HPV-and-men.htm#cancer
I would not have confronted him and would consider the source as others said. sm
There are so many people out there that know of issues in marriages and keep quiet or to themselves about it. I think it takes a very good friend to tell someone of issues they know or saw. So I would either say this person is a very good friend or this person has a reason to stir up trouble; again, consider the source. I would have kept quiet with the hubby and looked for evidence and investigate before I disregarded it or confronted him.

Lice prevention -- distilled white vinegar (sm)
After shampooing, rinse hair with 50/50 mixture of white vinegar and water, protecting eyes.
My mom used this prevention faithfully on all of us and none of us ever had lice infestation, just shiny hair.
reliable source? Want to prove it here please...
Where is your "inside source's" integrity?
S/he should be fired!
Real reliable source you have there...sm
Anybody who can Google exact quotes could have seen your reliable source was just another way to make yourself seem more important. How sad!
The least you could have done was type it yourself instead of copying it and pasting it from here:

The day I start worrying more about a celeb's life more than my own or my family's, someone please hunt me down and put me out of my misery!
I never said my reliable source was personal - I DID get it from an
internet source - but it wasn't the one you found - obviously checking my sources - so you DO care - so you are just a hypocrite!
Yes, but their source is the National Enquirer
I will believe it when there's a credible source and in the meantime, hope it isn't true.
Consider the source. DD in hospital this summer sm
with serious illness. After about the fifth time a nurse had asked us what her symptoms were - my daughter just looked at me and I said simply "Gross edema?" because explaining how every part of her body had swollen over the last 4 weeks just got old. Nurse looked at me and said, "Are you a nurse?" I said no - but I do do MT..... wanted to be a smart aleck and said "No - but I stated at a Holiday Inn last night!"
The drinkin kind or the rubbin kind?? sm
So....is that for me to drink so I don't notice or care that my hands are all splotchy black or to get the ink off? Seriously though, do I use the rubbing alcohol - or like Jack Daniels?? and do I soak in it or what? I never heard of using alcohol but I'll try anything.
make sure you use a "metal" lice comb, not a plastic one as they don't work well. nm

Walnuts- natural source of melatonin
Want a better night's sleep? Try sprinkling your dinner's tossed green salad, fruit salad or steamed vegetables with a handful of walnuts. Or enjoy a baked apple or poached pear topped with walnuts for dessert.
Melatonin, a hormone produced by the pineal gland, which is involved in inducing and regulating sleep and is also a powerful antioxidant, has been discovered in walnuts in bio-available form, making them the perfect evening food for a natural good night's sleep.
Melatonin has been shown to help improve sleep for night shift workers and people suffering from jet lag, but maintaining healthy levels of this hormone is important for everyone over the age of 40 since the amount of melatonin produced by the human body decreases significantly as we age, and this decrease in antioxidant protection may be related to the development of free radical-related diseases later in life.
In a study published in Nutrition, Russell Reiter and colleagues at the University of Texas have not only quantified the amount of melatonin present in walnuts-between 2.5 and 4.5 ng/gram-but have demonstrated that eating walnuts triples blood levels of melatonin and also increases antioxidant activity in the bloodstream in animals.
The authors theorize that by helping the body resist oxidative stress (free radical damage), walnuts may help reduce the risk of cancer and delay or reduce the severity of cardiovascular disease and neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson's or Alzheimer's disease. Walnuts, best known as a heart-healthy nut, are also a rich source of another highly cardio-protective nutrient: omega-3-fatty acids, so Reiter and his team will next investigate possible synergy between walnuts' omega-3 fats and melatonin. To us at the World's Healthiest Foods, this sounds familiar theme in Nature's symphony in which whole, wholesome foods each provide a wealth of nutrients whose harmony promotes our optimal health.
If you do something like that make sure you have a generator as a source of power.

I was horrified, what - a year ago? - to watch an episode of Oprah where three teenage girls AND THEIR MOTHERS were guests saying in front of God and the world that the girls engage in oral sex, how common it was, etc.
There was some point in this country when we decided that "shame" was bad (the oxymoronic suggestion being that we should be ashamed of shame!) - and nothing good has come out of this ridiculous 'progressive humanist' idea or its twin - the notion that outcomes should be the same for everyone regardless of their ability or effort.
Let's get the notion of shame back on stage - front and center. There ARE things that humans do that SHOULD make them feel shame and guilt. When we lose our ability to experience guilt, we have...let's see now, what do we have again? Oh yes, now I remember - we have Bernie Madoff and his $50 billion scam, television you can no longer watch with your children, teachers seducing their students, and a whole lot of other very unpleasant consequences.
Nature's Plus Source of Life vitamins.
They are made from whole foods rather than synthetic vitamins and guarantee a burst of energy. If I don't take them a few days, I can really tell a difference. I love them.
This is a minor source of contention in my family - sm
My husband and 17 year old daughter love going out to eat, whenever and wherever. I find that most restaurant food is way too gussied up for my tastes and I prefer my own cooking to anyone else's. Not to say that they DON'T like it. I'm a good cook and so is my daugher. To me, I can think of so many better ways to spend the money of a dinner out, one evening of which equals usally about half of our food budget for the week. It's hard to justify that kind of expense just to get out of doing the dishs.
So, in answer to your question, about once every couple of weeks to fast food, once a month or so to Friendly's and only on special occasions to a real nice restaurant.
I agree, beans and all legumes are a great source for.......sm
plant protein and fiber. Great option for vegetarian.
This is a great beanice dish:
rice
beans (any kind)
onions (chopped small)
olives
turmeric
spices
Fry a little in olive oil or canola oil, then cook in water, 1:2, or 1:1/2, depending on kind of rice.
You can substitute beans with lentils or chickpeas, or put all 3 together....
I had heard Vitamin D was a good source for bones,
of course and being as I along with others on here do not get out as much as we should sometimes, had heard maybe I should take. I have pain in my ribs (checked for other things and scans, x-rays turned out ok) so started this morning with 4000 units. Anyone else take and if so what dosage? My ribs were hurting before I got out of bed and since seem to be feeling some better.
It's been on the radio. Apparently the main source is TMZ, nothing official yet. nm

Important to check source before posting/forwarding these types of emails and misinformation
Please, actually GO to www.snopes.com and read what they have to say about this negative e-email that has been circulating for months now. Right there at snopes, they debunk/clarify all of these mean-spirited accusations.
Specifically about it being factual and verified by snopes, it is NOT verified by them. Below I copied one paragraph from snopes.com but please go there read it in full so that you can hopefully choose not to pass on this Internet e-mail full of misinformation.
FROM snopes.com -
Variations: One version of the e-mail in circulation claims "We were told this was checked out on 'snopes.com'. It is factual. Check for yourself." and includes a link to this web site. It's our guess that whoever included that bit was counting on folks to not check, as our article says the opposite: that the polemic is not factual but rather is false.
Me again - Even if you do not care for Barack Obama, surely you do not wish to pass on lies or misinformation and engage in or extend the negative campaigning we all hope to NOT see much of... at least, I hope this is true, especially of people who talk about being Christian.
At least open your mind enough to read what Obama has to say about all of this misinformation. Between snopes.com and his own website, then make a decision whether or not to engage in actively passing on misinformation. Snopes is a great place to verify information that comes to all of us in these emails.

I sure hope all the good hearted folks on here won't flame me for encouraging us all to check things out before we post them or hit that FORWARD button.
Peace to ALL.
I feel that is best too. I have been kind, very kind, to this ...sm
child since he moved here in March. I also am not one of those parent's that thinks my children are perfect. You never know what they might do out of your presence. I do know how I have raised them though and I am all for getting them all together when there is a problem and getting to the bottom of it but anymore that doesn't seem to work. The parents automatically get defensive and start making excuses, etc. I'm going to look for somewhere else to move. I've lived here for 2-1/2 years and we never had a problem until this boy moved in. His mother is a piece of work.
Only the 2nd one if I had the body......nm

With a body like that, hmmm you could also do
porno but just not the way I would want others to see me. Sorry, I have family that I just would not want to shame them much less myself. Just not an exhibitionist here.
Bath and Body sm
My DH got me some B/B red leather collection stuff, makeup bag, manicure/pedicure set (awesome) and a little purse which came with Moonlight Path shower gel and body lotion. I already had the overnight bag and the tote. I just can't get enough of that red - I'm a bling, bling girl all the way!!!
Well maybe the body but NO WAY that face.
I'd rather be fat and pretty. LOL
you should really do that...keeps a body busy. NM

Body aches
I've been transcribing for 5 years, and my body hurts all the time, seems like.
How do some of you girls do this for 10, 20, 30 years and still function? I have back aches, shoulder aches, neck pain, headaches, forearm aches. I've tried different chairs, keyboards, body posiiton, and it's the same.
Currently, I'm going to school, and I just can't wait.
I have my office at the end of the hall, and it's like Hell is at the end of the hall. Sometimes, I just hate this room. I don't even come in here on my days off, even if I have to use the PC. I look around this room, and just think, "How can I dislike a room so much?"
HOW do you girls do it for so long?
Neutrogena body oil
Works really well for me. I put it on after taking a shower and towel drying. I use it every day when it first starts, then taper it down to every other day, etc. as tolerated and use regular lotion on the inbetween days.
I find Mary Kay and Avon products are great for sensitive dry skin too. I like Mary Kay lotions and the Avon Skin So Soft is nice too but prefer Neutrogena or the Wal-Mart brand body oil because it seems to soak in faster and not leave me feeling greasy.
