because they have long bodies and short legs leading to lameness and paralysis, but I wouldn't figure that a puppy would already be having these problems.

Same applies to spine surgery. DO NOT TOUCH MY SPINE;
You are right about hounds. They are very driven and hard to redirect but are wonderful. NM

It's not just MTs though I think we are extra prone to it.
I had much food for thought after talking to a friend the other day about my own antisocial tendencies. She said she had a friend who was extremely outgoing whose job had turned into a telecommuting job and she had practically turned into a hermit. My friend observed that it must be even worse for MTs who are the type of people who tend to be more introverted anyway. I thought she had a real point there.
Maybe a mall job wouldn't be so bad, if you have the time. Or volunteering somewhere you're interested in?
Weight gain, I can't help you with....I had to make peace with my big hips years ago. LOL.
Pit bulls are very prone to allergies.
From a little research I did, have you tried a high quality lamb kibble yet? That's what most of the sites are recommending for pit bulls. This is one site, but it is down at the bottom of the page.

There are other antihistamines that are used for dogs besides Benadryl (never use one with a decongestant, of course). Tavist is one I've used. You may find a 12-hour or 24-hour one more beneficial, but do check with your vet for dosing. We actually got an air cleaner for Misha at one point, though her problems didn't turn out to be allergies.
You might have something pinched in your neck or thoracic spine. nm

Bassetts are prone to back problems and hip dysplasia. sm
I have three bassetts, 12, 11 and 8 years old. They are prone to back problems because of their long back. They are also prone to hip dysplasia. I think my 8 y/o possibly has it (I got him when he was 4 or 5 y/o). They can do an x-ray while he's under anesthesia for his neuter and see it that way. I've never had my 8 y/o checked for it. But he's favoring one of his back legs and I think I'm going to get it checked out. Is this your first bassett? They are such loyal loving dogs!!! They are lazy and they shed a lot. Good luck with your bassett. Keep us posted.
You might be compressing a nerve in your spine or neck. Get up often. Drink all day long. See your

Does anyone have or has had a basset hound?? sm
We have a 5 month old basset, girl, and all she seems to do is cry. We have 3 other dogs (other breeds), males, and they never cry except when they need to go out. This little one just wines and cries all the time. She was sick with pneumonia and kennel cough when we got her and was also having some kind of anxiety or depression because all of her siblings were gone. She had given up on life and had quit eating and drinking. She adjusted well in our home and loves the other dogs and our kids. She is healthy now, but still cries a lot. Just wondering if this is a basset trait, a girl-dog trait, or is it just her?? Thanks!
We have a basset with anxiety (sm)
He's an old male and whines and howls a lot, particularly when we have company. He's always been like that. When he's particularly bad, my husband was instructed to give him an antianxiety drug. (I'm not sure which one--he had specific instructions of which I am unclear.) Our female basset is happy, jumpy, playful, and silly.
I'm not sure, but maybe your basset just has that kind of personality like our basset does. My husband has raised several bassets. This male dog he has is the only one that has had anxiety problems. He's raised several female bassets with no anxiety, excessive whining, or excessive howling problems like the male.
Our boy dog howls so much sometimes that his voice gets hoarse. It's so sad to hear it happen.
We had to put our Basset Hound to sleep today
she wasn't feeling well and was having a lot of back pain and trouble breathing. My vet took a back xray, which was fine, but he said the chest xray was abnormal. We took her for an ultrasound, and the result was advanced lung cancer. It was a struggle for her to get air, because she had so much fluid built up around her lungs and heart. The vet said they could extract the fluid, but it would build back up again.
The vet said it was a really bad case, and with chemo, she'd probably only live 6 months to a year, and even that wasn't guaranteed. She said she could start LouLou on chemo and she could die in a week or two. She also said with the fluid buildup, we'd have to keep taking her in to have fluid extracted. She was just 2.5 years old.
We're pretty sad.
How cute, is the little one a beagle or basset hound? nm

I have a 3-1/2 yo basset, Biscuit, he cries and whines all the time sm
I bought him from a chain pet store and he was a little older when I got him. He was difficult to train too, but I hear that hounds are generally. I had a boxer who was so gentle and calm, took me a while to get used to the basset!
It's funny watching my Basset Hound in the snow, it's over his back! nm

What a great story, I have a basset hound named Biscuit. nm

I used to suffer from insomnia, but not since I've been doing this - about 5 years now.
Plus, I've grown so much and have gained wisdom by doing so. I enjoy Christian books and reading the Bible.
Has anyone read
I read it last week and just wondering if anyone else has. I thought it jumped around a bit but it was interesting to get to know more about her and I enjoyed hearing about Dr. Phil. They seem genuine.
I just read, it's $360................

You were so quick to respond and try to tell me my daughter WILL have bad behavior that will make her in danger for STDs that you didn't even read, I said he told me the NEXT day. Just because some people have no control doesn't mean we all don't. There are still virgins on their wedding day out there....even though that may be a SHOCK.

my posts and I seriously wonder how you ever got that I thought surgery was the only way to go when all I said was that some of these reports were *created* by insurance companies who do not want to pay for ANY care concerning carpal tunnel if it was an over use issue. But whatever...that is not what I meant. All I meant was than insurance companies tend to manipulate reports to THEIR benefit, not the patient's. Surgery or no surgery...that is the individual's choice and not my concern. Sorry you did not UNDERSTAND what I was saying.
you believe everything you read????

box on your house, anyone can creep into your yard and plug in a computer and go to town. You can put a lock on it, ours looks like a small gray box attached to the house about 8 x 8 inches or so, open it up and you will see phone jacks, it is how the repairmen check the lines, etc. w/o coming inside. Anyone could just run a long line and sit in a car nearby and do it too, but depending on where you live I think this would be noticed. If it happens consistently still check it out, see if some kid/night owl is hacking in this way by getting up in the hours it happens and see if someone is doing this, if so problem solved (call the police obviously if you see this happening); if this is not the case, then maybe take your phone off the hook at night, I would think then they would not be able to hack into it w/o a dial tone. I hope you get this resolved quickly.

Never heard about Allen's and milk, but I'm from away, too. I learn new things all the time up heyah.

Can you read
any words like Budweiser or beer? There is certainly nothing wrong with the draft horses working with a cart, and your kids really aren't going to think "beer" when the look at it. If people are going to be over and might think about it, or if it bothers your husband, maybe there is a wood filling product that could fill in any words that refer to beer or pictures of beer bottles, etc. Maybe you could then use stain or a rosemaling (painting technique) design over it, or whatever would complement the style. It sounds really cute to me.

Is it something you would read again?
I was just thinking that I could just go to the library, but sometimes I like to read books over again - after waiting a sufficient amount of time so that I forget all the details! Is the series something you would go back and read again?
Yes, I will probably read them again
Loved the books better than the movies, but the movies were okay.
OK, read it again and again, still don't get it...
Must be me...oh well!
I read that to mean
there should be no drinking age like in Europe. Not that there should be no drinking. My two high school kids went on a school trip to Italy and Greece in April. They said the only teenagers getting obnoxiously drunk were the Americans and the Canadians teens were drinking but not to excess. Also all the Canadian kids smoked cigarettes too.
I just read about that!
All sorts of elements when combined or heated will cause noxious fumes and those symptoms. Even some welders have to wear respirators and breath canned oxygen when working with some metals. Can't wait to hear more about it though!
Er, um, that should have read....
"Having your own teeth SHOULDN'T have to be considered a luxury." I'm sure you knew what I meant though. Frosts my tuckas it does.
from what I have read this is an
"emotional affair". You are better off letting it go and finding a friend that can talk to you without it being a secret.
Would you read....
your spouses/SO diary? Or do you consider that an invasion of privacy?
What if you suspected your spouse/SO was involved in something (drugs, cheating, theft). Would it make it ok then?
Read into it what you want
To your email- I was not suggesting anything- was telling like I said. End of story.
I have them too - read something
cannot remember now - big help, I know. Look on the internet.
Before looking at a used car read this...sm
Look at Consumer Reports April issue - it should be available at your local library for free. They have information on cars as to their reliability and value for the past several years, as well as recommended vehicles for various price ranges. Be sure to have an independent mechanic check out the vehicle thoroughly before making a purchase. Pay $10 for the CarFax report to make sure the vehicle hasn't been previously totaled.
Good luck!

You need assistance and support.
He is young and does not understand why you are right there but not able to spend time with him. Quality time.
Put him in a mother's day out or a daycare program so you can concentrate on the homeschooling for your others.
Then, when you pick that 3-year-old up, make the next 30 min to an hour quality time for the 2 of you together.
You're pulling a lot of weight here with homeschooling then working at night at home. He probably feels neglected.
If I were you, I would reconsider the homeschooling, put those boys in public or private school, put the 3-year-old in a daycare, work during the day and have a normal, peaceful, quality night with my family.
The kids will grow up but work will always be there.
Do not continue spanking him -- I'm not an anti-spanking person -- but he does not understand and you are hurting him with no outcome other than simple pain and humiliation.
Yes - please do read that! (nm)

Last week a little girl in my community was having a snowball fight with her friend. Her mom was clearing the snow from the driveway. The little girl slipped and fell and her jacket got caught in the auger of the snowblower. She was without oxygen for at least 11 minutes (that was response time for emergency workers to make it to her house). We don't know how long she was trapped before someone called 911, mom was hysterical (obviously) and kept screeming she was dead, she did not at that time try to get the jacket off of her. The little girl has so far made it but she is still on life support.
I am asking for you all to do 2 things:
1. Keep this little girl and her family in your thoughts and if you are spiritual then please keep her in your prayers and let's hope for a miracle.
2. I am asking that you please don't allow your children to be anywhere near you or anyone when you are snowblowing. Things just happen too quickly.
I know my kids are always playing outside when we clear the driveway and we "shoot" snow at them from the snowblower but that will not happen again. This poor mother has to live with what happened for the rest of her life and I can't even imagine the guilt and pain she must feel but she has to keep going because she has 3 other children at home.
I'm sorry to be a downer on Christmas Eve but if a miracle is going to happen it will be today.
Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays to all.

A few years ago, my husband went absolutely crazy with credit cards. I have always been very frugal and careful with money so it was pretty devastating to me. Especially since he kept it a secret until it was way out of control.
You can try the same thing I did to get us out of this mess he created.
Hopefully you have made some effort at payments or at least have kept in touch with your creditors. If not, it might be a little tougher but you can try.
Call the card companies and ask to speak to an account supervisor. Don't speak to someone answer the phones. Trust me. You need to speak with someone who isn't going to waste your time. Explain the situation and how you are trying to fix it now that you have steady employment.
Call the one with the highest balance first. Ask if it is possible for them to lower your APR and consider giving you a much lower FIXED rate for at least up to 1 year if not for the life of the balance if you also include a balance transfer from another account to this one. If they say no. Big Deal. That's all they can do and, you can call back in a week or so and do it again, maybe not get the same person.
Make sure when you call that you write down the date, time, who you speak to, and make notes of every conversation. Keep these separate for each card.
If you are granted the request of extended credit for balance transfer and lowered fixed interest, make sure you request a letter stating these changes. Write that down too and make sure you get that letter. If you don't get it.. call them back and go back to your notes from the original call so you have all the details and GET THAT LETTER!
Remember, you do not want to max out any of the cards. If you can do the above with at least two cards and get everything down to 2 cards or less, you will be doing okay and you will see the debt going away a lot faster.
If you can swing it, make DOUBLE payments on at least one of the cards every month. I know it sounds painful but, believe me, I did it even when things have been extremely lean around here and I am so glad that I did. When you get one of those cards paid off, you aren't done yet. Put the entire payment you were applying to that card to the next card. Every time you pay something off, you move that payment plus the minimum to the next one and the next one until you are all paid off.
When you get one card paid off, make sure you call the company after the first statement you get that says ZERO balance and cancel that card immediately.
Remember I said my husband's credit card debt was around $28,000.00 - That was just a little over two years ago. I have one card left and the balance on it is $7000.00. The minimum payment on this card is $143.00 per month and I have taken all of the previous payments from the cards I have already paid off and am now applying those to this card too, totalling about $600.00 per month so I will have this one paid off in about a year too.
You can do it. Don't take no for an answer. Just be patient, wait a week or so, and call again until you get what you want. They WANT our money and they want our business. They WILL give in eventually.
I also found that a little hard bargaining sometimes worked. If someone told me they could not grant my request for a lowered fixed interest. I would tell them that I am prepared to do a balance transfer today and close this account unless they could give me a better deal. That usually worked the first call.
Good luck.
Just now getting to read this
I actucally did make the spinach dip LOL!. About 4 minutes before the game was over my mom decided we should clean up the kitchen. I am a giants fan and didn't get to see any of the excitement. Oh well, at least my team won and my DH chile won.
I also read that (sm)
I also read that they are tunnelers, diggers. I think I'm just telling my sis to give to other girl - by all accounts, she would be a responsible pet owner. I'd like a mid-size dog for the backyard - what kind of dog would be hearty enough to withstand that environment. I just cannot have an inside dog, period. I have a garage that the dog will go into if it is too hot, too cold, rainy, etc., but majority of time would have to be outside in backyard. Thanks in advance.
That's a lie, too. Do you believe everything you read?
o
Sometimes they want you to read it!
I don't think you did anything wrong. We need to use all means at our disposal to know what's going on in their lives.
During my oldest daughter's senior year, she was having a hard time, but I was not aware of the half of it. She was an honor student, on the debate team, always very responsible. She started getting very irritable and would fly off the handle at everything, but I chalked it up to typical teenage behavior. One weekend she went away for the night and I went into her room to get something and saw her diary right smack in the middle of her desk in plain sight. I read it. I found out she was using alcohol and was depressed to the point of being suicidal. I confronted her about this when she got home and she admitted it was true and willingly accepted getting help with a counselor. She never asked me how I knew. I'm convinced to this day she left the diary there for me to read. She wanted me to know and didn't know how to tell me. We got her some help and now she's off at college, doing much better. Parents, sometimes they WANT you to read it!

the book about Lord John Gray? I never thought he was that interesting a character to warrant his own book.
So #7 might not be the last? That would be wonderful! I remember I started reading one by the fountain outside the bookstore before I even got it home and another one in the car on the way home from the mall and DH said, Well, guess I won't be seeing you for awhile.
Yes, I read it, but
I found it very odd and not believable. It sort of disturbed me that

So you are saying the place you resuce dogs FROM are the ones who put them down. You don't actually have them put down.
I hate that folks won't give these dogs a chance. They aren't all bad. I think it is so prejudice and unfair.
