When you go into begin your social security they will figure out which way is the most beneficial for you.  Because he remarried  I do not think you can get the "widow's benefit" but only the 50% but I am not sure.  I have a problem in that my husband was younger than me and so they don't know what to do for me as he won't be retired when I think of retiring.  Is becoming more of a problem lately.  Again, your full social security may be MORE than 50% of his unless you have worked only part-time or made very little.  From what I understand they take your 5 largest earning years to average what your benefits are.  Not just your last five but your largest ones.  So even though I pay very little on SS because I have so many deductions, my total benefit might be more than his at 50% but we will see.  I think  a lot of this is explained on the Social Security web page.  I am not that knowledgable - just listen a lot and pick up things.
