Ok, fellow workers, MTs has answered questions in the past for me. I am almost 64 and would like to be a part-time employee and get my social security; however it is of concern to me about how much a person can make a month and how many hours you are allowed to work. I hear money is taken from your SS check if you make over so much a month. I would get now $1500 plus a month from SS but I enjoy working and even work some overtime so just concerns. Anyone out there with any thoughts about this, sure would enjoy hearing from you. TIA

Went semi-green with car purchase
We traded in my minivan (which was getting about 16 mpg) for a slightly used Yaris. They get 40 mpg and my car payment will drop significantly. They rate very well with Consumer Reports for reliability, etc. My sister has one and only has to fill the tank once every 2 months.
Back when we got the van we had plenty of money and the economy was fine. These days, with work changes and gas prices, it should be a big help to be out from under that expense. Plus I have a nearly new car (5,000 miles). It is silver mica color, the sedan model. The little 2-door hatchbacks are adorable, but you can't find them anywhere for some reason.
I'm on the semi-slob scale
I guess I would rate my self as a 2. I have cleaning supplies. In the past I have tried a lot but found a couple that I like. Mostly because of the way they make the house smell. The only time I use hand sanitizer is after I've picked up a package of chicken at the grocery store (a lot of times the juice leaks out). I do find myself washing my hands after I come home from the grocery store, but only when my husband reminds me. Otherwise I would probably let it go and even eat something before washing my hands. The only thing I do that would constitue as a phobia is if I have to use the restroom I will line the toilet seat with tissue if they don't have any of those sanitary toilet seat covers and 2 I use my foot to flush the toilet. I never touch the flusher with my hand.
Its a semi-cooking night for me
First I have to say I love ham and beans. One of my favorite winter food.
Tonight DH said he would like to snack - hooray! so its chili dip for us. Sooo easy -
I can of chile (any kind you like - we always use no beans) and one 8 ounce package of cream cheese. Heat together til cream cheese is melted.

Many of my age retired by now
I have absolutely no problem in telling my age, none because people usually taken aback in the fact cannot believe my age (65 next year), don't go into detail about that face lift. Anyway, I cherish the age I am, wish I could have gone back a few years and made a few changes but life is great at this age, no money problems, don't have to work 2 full time jobs (only part now), take nice trips when I want, kids out of the house, and the deals you get - reductions on property taxes, movies, meals. More money now and less to pay out. I love it! Got retirement funds kicking in next year and still able to work so that is the icing on the cake for me. The 40s were not particularly good for me - hopefully better for you but Happy Birthday and live it up!

And for the record, I am way closer to Ms. Knowles' age than I am to Ms. Turner's, so don't go assuming I'm some old housewife who can't hear through my hearing aids.
Beyonce is so incredibly boring and UNoriginal I can't even stand to pay attention to her through a full song. And WHAT is with the underwear outfits. Those gargantuan thighs should not see the light of day.
And she has the WORST verbal skills, girl cannot pronounce a word properly to save her life.

and were on social security, they could only earn a certain amount above that social security. anything over that, they had to file. they may also reduce ss benefits by the amount earned. I may be wrong, but that was how I understood it. My mom is 78, completely on ss, has no other income, and does not have to file income tax.
I'm pretty sure it is allowed - my mom is retired but (sm)

Patti, my retirement age is 67
not 64, not 66 and I think they are going up on the age requirements as I speak. As you probably know, folks living longer now and that is the reason behind that. I can draw social security now in 1 year and 10 months. Can we say goody, good and hope those fingers hold out!
The age for some retirement has changed
I am almost 65 (next March) and my retirement age is 67. It has gone up with people living longer and people born around my year and later will find their social security starts later than 65. I am still working and hope to continue- I have retirement money starting next April from place outsourced from (being independent contractor, that will probably pay part of my taxes for the month, ha!) I guess I should go ahead and contact SS so I can find out if and when I should sign up.

Close to retirement age (for me), if you could would you
take a reduction of 6% on your social security if you could - mine starts at age 66 and next year I will be 65 so that late would only mean 6% off instead of full social by the age of 66. If you had a chance, would you do that or would you wait until full and then draw plus being able to work?
If I was close to retirement, then I'd
work in a flower or gift shop or even a coffee shop part-time. It's hard to make any money doing this anymore since everything is either going low-pay/high ESL, or voice recognition, which in my opinion does not save your wrists, and you get paid less to do more as far as I'm concerned. I'm in a bad mood today, can you tell? Sorry to take it out on you, but you asked. I'm no where near retirement age by the way.

Having retirement, investments good but
what has happened recently with these as it pertains to the economy we are in? I worry because an elderly aunt of mine has investments which her son oversees but I have the feeling hers has probably dropped quite a bit. I have not asked but most have these days.
I am close to retirement age and got property taxes
just a few days ago, about $2,250.00- I called and asked if I got anything off when I reached another age, say 70 or so and was told in 2009 I will have reached the golden age of 65 and my taxes would be only about $800.00 per year! Good Golly Miss Molly, talk about good news! The school tax break comes through then for me. There are some good things that come with aging and this is one!
Retirement home/assisted living
Go to one of the retirement homes or the higher class assisted living complexes in your area that has a beauty shop in it and I bet dollars to doughnuts that they can give you what you want as that is how they do it for the ladies in those areas.
In April I start getting retirement money
Ok, don’t tell me to ask my accountant, don’t have so thought I would ask here. I plan on continuing to work because I want to. I am in the 30% tax range. Normally I would pay $600 per month as an independent on my taxes. With the new income, I should be paying $750.00 a month and that would be what I am making now plus the new retirement, which, of course, is counted as income and I have to pay taxes on that. This is what I am thinking- taking the $500+ per month and now I only have to take bimonthly $125.00 per month and that with the $500 per month and pay my income taxes. Does anyone have any ways to make this money grow until I pay my taxes quarterly? Banking of any kind, CDs, bonds, whatever. Any ideas out there? Thanks.

Needing this information depends on if you need to use both of your incomes. If not, i would not worry about getting this letter. All mortgage companies are different in what they require. I would just try to use your previous 1099. I am sure the company would not have a problem writing this letter though if needed. If you just explain to them what it is needed for. I am sure you would not be the first person to ask of this.

No matter what the cost of the property sold, the rate I am paying (as others would do) is less than $3,000.00! When you take into consider the previous realtor I had was charging 10% of the total amount, I am coming out smelling like a rose. I tried to tell my relative the earnest money was like down payment but apparently not being believed. Their son was selling some property without a realtor and they got up front and got to keep around $500.00 from a sale that did not go through but mine, I told her, was different. Thanks!

I have fibro, like I said and I am 1 big ache to start with with pain in the legs, arms, shoulders but this most excruciating pain right now is in the ribs, not more 1 side than the other, almost unbearable. But you know, pregnancy isn't what scares me the most, it's a deadly disease that she could contract...it's a disease that could leave her unable to have a child when she does meet the man she wants to marry. I just feel like crying, she's my little girl...

My son is 8, he's in 3rd grade.
He can concentrate for hours on videogames. We spend all of our time together, except for the hours he is in school. Of course, I'm a SAHM MT, so that makes for more time for us. He talks nonstop to everyone, everywhere, all the time. However, my dad and my DH's dad do the same thing, so that could be inherited!
I'm not sure if ADD is the right word here, but don't know how else to describe it. He's not behind by any means in school, however the thing is, it takes him twice as long to complete *jobs*, as his teacher puts it, than the other kids. I know from my experience with him and homework, and it's like pulling teeth sometimes to get one worksheet done. He's just extremely social, I guess. He can't sit still. He has a hard time focusing, I do know that much.
Medication is the last thing we want to do (yes, his father is VERY involved in his life...we are an intact family). I'm thinking about taking him to his ped's office just to talk about some things we can try. I don't want him labeled with anything unless we know for sure he has it. I'm just exploring options right now.

He's worked for this company for 11-12 years, however they just moved across town in July, so he's been driving since then. He absolutely hates the drive, comes home tired and cranky every night. And by apartment, I did mean one of those weekly hotel-thingies.

I definitely need to lose the plastic hamster cage. It has metal slats on the sides and all of their bedding gets pushed out all over the floor. Who ever thought that was a good idea. I wish they would have warned me at the pet store.
BTW, three days after we got them, one of them chewed its tail off or one of the others possibly did it. Ever heard of that?
