Recalled chicken strips (dogs) from Walmart

We had a bag of these chicken strips from Walmart, and CJ has been sick. Since Walmart has been keeping the recall quiet, neither we nor our vet knew what the problem was! I can only hope he lives!
His symptoms have been respiratory distress and vomiting. I'm really not too happy with Walmart right now. I mean, they were chicken strips!

Thank you! Actually, the fried chicken is chicken strips sm
breaded and fried that I make from scratch. Yes, I buy the 5 pound bag from Sam's club, fry it up and then toss is with my mom's famous teriyaki sauce cut into small, bite sized pieces. With 5 pounds cut up I can make well over 120 pieces. No big deal! Thanks for your suggestions!
My dad told me that I got the chicken pox from playing in the chicken coop. I believed him for years
nm
how old are the strips (etc.)
You know, when I was working the floor I found that people's reactions to blood sugar were really all over the place. Some people would feel hypoglycemic when they dropped below 130 but would feel great above 400 with no signs of hyperglycemia--that's just what they normally ran. Then there were other diabetics who felt hypoglycemic only when the were in the 30s but felt hyperglycemic when they hit about 150.
Granted, that wasn't most people because many of the people I cared for generally didn't fit those extremes, but it's not out of the question. I'm also not implying that you're diabetic, but there is a huge range of where people feel normal in relation to their blood sugar.
Personally I would feel hypoglycemic when I was in the 40s, but I don't have diabetes. That was when I was obese and pregnant with my 10-pound child (without gestational diabetes either). I felt much like what you are saying.
Definitely make sure your machine is calibrated and that the strips are not expired. Use the glucose solution to make sure and make sure your hands are scrupulously clean before you go poking, and you'll do okay.
I think your best bet would be to go to the doc and have the HbA1c done along with everything else he or she deems appropriate.
Keep us updated!
Hang one of those unsightly fly strips.
The old timey ones they used to hang. They still sell them. Made by Catchmaster scented bug & fly catcher. They do work. Think I bought some at Wal-Mart. Comes rolled up about the size of a shotgun shell, you pull it out and it unravels and you tack it with the tack provided. They won't get off of that booger! Warning - Don't lean your head into it accidentally! Oh yes I did...
My dentist also recommend Crest strips
She said she could do the whitening but it would yield no better result than an OTC product. Check the website too, they may have coupons available that you can print or sign up to receive by mail. I'm finding a lot of brand name product websites do this now.
Again!?!? Weren't they recalled once before during the
Nutro *Max-Cat* used to be one of the *good* varieties of cat food. (Had been recommended when I adopted my 1st Persian, who got diarrhea with canned food or fish-flavored dry food).
Oy, VEY.
Yes, but approximately 26 drugs were recalled in
yeah..probably the stuff they recalled. nm
nm
My cat was a victim of their recalled food...
poor baby suffered for 3 days before we determined what it was and had to have him put down. They can keep their food...would they give it to their own animals?
Yes, recalled in 2007. This is a new recall, May, 2009. sm
Nutro was recalled during the huge 2007 pet food recalls. This is a new 2009 recall involving the premix formulation in some of their dry cat food. I use Wellness, Nature's Variety, and Newman's Own canned cat foods.
Pet food - is there a web site that lists all the foods being recalled? nm
Worried about my golden retriever.
Yes, I saw your post, but my link includes all brands recalled. (sm)
I think it's really important for pet owners to be aware there aren't a lot of safe brands out there right now.
Note that AquaDots has been recalled. I went into a KB Toys and found one on
they couldn't be stocked and pulled them from the back. I turned it in to the manager and asked him hadn't those been recalled and his eyes about popped out of his head and said that they had and thanks for catching it.
Believe it or not, but I take Walmart brand Onion and Garlic and mix it with a jar of Walmart brand
Mixing the two sauces togeter gives it the right amount of garlic and veggies. Our family is Italian on both sides, but we all agree for a quick jar sauce instead of homemade, this does the trick! YUM
Shelties or Australian Sheep Dogs are great family dogs. rm

These dogs appear to be puppy mill producing dogs.
The two females, which I thought were older, appear to be just worn out/depleted. Their teeth are those of a 3-5 year old dog. So, I do believe they have had litters each cycle and are suffering from malnourishment.
Funny thing, yesterday, they were covered with mud (it rained and they were digging) and this morning, I look out and see they have all been grooming as they are clean.
Called Love of Animals who has committed to spaying/neutering the animals, giving them their shots, flea repellant and showing them at Pets Mart on Sundays. In a few months, there will be a regional dog show at the local college where on average 150 dogs are adopted out and she asked that I keep them until then.
Which I will...And a girl saw the ad for the Lost Pets and is looking for a replacement for her Shi Tzu she lost a year ago and will come by tomorrow morning.
I have my dogs on it, and yes all my past dogs but 2 have died -sm
from cancer. But I had 2 schipperkes on Frontline for years and one died at 13 from cancer, the other at 16 just from old age/kidney failure. My last husky was 8 when she died from cancer, but I have had one die at 2 (unknown causes), and another at 9.5 from liver cancer (she actually made a nice recovery but succumbed about 6 months later), but huskies don't tend to live past 10 unfortunately. I have had purebreeds and mutts, and with or w/o Frontline/Advantage they have all died from cancer. I suppose it is possible that it causes it, but if you live long enough, cancer will most likely be your cause of death, anything and everything causes cancer anymore. I hate fleas and ticks and we have lots of them, so the dogs get the Frontline except in the cold winter months. They are 6 and 3 and both doing quite well.
And dogs don't bite right? Love my dogs but I
nm
my dogs are basically indoor dogs sm
but have a doggie door to go in and out as they please. Sometimes our Jack Russell gets excited and barks inside the house. My DH grabs is belt and snaps it and the loud noise shuts her up right away. I am not trying to frighten our dog, but many times just saying knock it off doesn't work.
Chik&stuffing casserole, chik enchiladas, fried chik strips, chik parmesan. nm

Have you tried Walmart?
x
Yes, Walmart has said you
could get your money back for the recalled products. And even if they are different products from China, you could try. Walmart needs to know it matters where they get food from. When buying pet dishes, I suppose we need to make sure they aren't from China or they might have lead.

Just heard - Walmart is in.
It was just announced on CNN that Walmart is going to acknowledge Christmas.
Walmart/Christmas
Okay, so Walmart has brought Christmas back. That will make some customers happy, but on another note, they've ticked a lot of customers off by doing away with layaway.
walmart/christmas
I don't think I've ever used it. I'm with you, I don't like standing in line! lol Anyway, I don't remember why they are closing it. It was in the paper here a while back. I just feel bad for those that rely on it for Christmas. One thing I thought was cool, from a friend, every time she goes to Walmart she puts $5-$20 on a gift card (same card every time)and uses that at Christmas. Unfortunately, I think I would use it up and not save it for Christmas! lol
I had an old guy do that to me in WalMart one time
I was coming out of an aisle and I always stop and look because sometimes other people just don't. Well, I almost ran into this older man because I didn't see him right away. He looked right at me, rammed his cart into mine, swore under his breath and went on his merry way.
You shop at Walmart too?
//
WalMart decorator
Used Wal Mart for my daughter's bridal shower cake.....did not have that problem....Where do you live......that was really uncalled for.....
WalMart Rage
I have a thought! We could sell tickets to the shopping "encounters" and make a bundle! That way, we could all afford to shop wherever we want for whatever we want when this is all over.
Actually, I don't really think this is restricted to just Christmas season - I have had some nuts "accost" me at other stores too, especially Costco, during all the seasons. The most annoying and aggresive was an old man (looked in his late 70s) who wanted my space in line and kept "ramming" my basket trying to cut into line. He had already tried it on two other people and "lost" out in another line - I had been watching him. My husband told me to let him go in front of us and suddenly a light came on in my head and I lost it. I turned around and asked him if he was crazy or just rude. Then, a man behind me told me to "comeon, just let him go" and then I REALLY lost it. I told the crazy guy to keep it up and I would call the police on him for battery. He just looked at me and looked at me. I don't know about you guys, but sometimes enough is enough. I am old now and tired and so sick of people like him. Why should I "keep the peace" at my own expense when that is exactly what most of the people like him expect? Besides, it was "empowering" to tell him to bug off. I don't look for trouble, but I don't have to be a doormat either and I don't intend to. Maybe one of those people that were taken away to the hospital were like me. Hope that doesn't happen to me too, but hey you never know. From now on I do not ever intend to be intimidated by rude mean people again. Even if they punch me! I will fight back. Guess it wouldn't hurt to make sure that I have something substantial in my basket to use just in case he is bigger than me?
Why didn't someone call security before the problem got out of control?
Where we live sometimes there is WalMart rage out in the parking lot too over spaces! Yet another reason to never go there! I guess we should shop where they have the most security to keep you safe from the other customers.
Walmart here has the music CD for $10 (sm)
Not sure if they have the actual cartoon...I love how it puts the season back in the right perspective. I also think the fact that I have been watching it around Christmas since I was a kid has something to do with it helping me feel "Christmasy". The CD is really good though-I've seen the cartoon so many times I can picture it while I'm listening to the music and doing other things.
Walmart bakery
Sorry, pic did not upload. I'll keep trying at it.
Hanaford has several that Walmart does not have - nm

LOL---Walmart:-) That's good. NM
I don't know but after I posted this I went to Walmart
and got this supposedly comfortable panty that cinches waist and tucks tummy. Looks comfortable. Only 7 bucks. Still too chicken to try it. Now I bid on e bay that body shaper thing like the one on HSN so it makes me 10 pounds lighter. Looks uncomfortable but will try. Of course, I just gave up and am getting size 10/11 jeans now. Going to auction off my size 5 jeans. I am torn between being comfortable and me and looking good and uncomfortable. Don't you just love midlife crises? BTW: I look at vintage clothing from the 80s back to 50s. Nobody could ever fit in those 36-24-36 garments. They had to have worn girdles all the time at least in the 50s, or they had some amazing way to figure out how to distribute!
No it is a PC game that you can buy at WalMart
They do make a console version but it's horrid.
if you have slow PC or laptop I would recomend The Sims Life Stories because The Sims 2 game takes up a lot of memory and requires a fast system, the Life Stories is a "lite" version and requires you to reach certain goals rather than free play. I really enjoyed Life Stories, wish they would come out with more.
here is the sims 2 deluxe edition:

we got a lil group of us going to do it! U ought to do it with us girl!!! talk to ya in a lil while!
Why do Walmart and Meijers have 20 or
more checkout lanes, but only 2 or 3 open at any given time?
This could happen anywhere, not just WalMart.

Walmart employee
And while EMS was trying to work on him to save his life, people were still trying to walk around them to get in the store and shop. It is a very sad look at our society.
most stores have this, even walmart

why I shop at Walmart
to save money. I have a bottom line too, and I go where I can get the best price.
I have a neighbor who thinks Walmart is Satan too, and guess what? we caught her shopping there last week.
The medical industry should boycott companies that send our work to India, then maybe I could afford to shop at Target. :)
Shopping at Walmart
We shop at Walmart every week. Everything is much cheaper there and as the other poster said, I go there to save money. Our store is clean and the people are friendly. There is a Target directly across the street from our Walmart and there is hardly ever anyone there and the Walmart parking lot is mobbed.
I think Walmart is the Antichrist.
is truly evil. Sorry, but that's my take. I am lured in time after time by their so-called lower prices, and eats my paycheck away. It is also becoming a monopoly in my town, not many other places to even shop. I miss the old days where we at least had more of a choice.
PS: At first when the Walmarts are new, they look clean, and the employees are kind. We just had a new Superwalmart move in about half a mile from the old one. When the Walmart gets a few years old: Dirty, and nasty workers. Antichrist: Looks good at first, turns sour at the end and takes us all down with him. LOL.
After stopping off at Walmart ;)

For Sale on Walmart 4 for $3.

My son says he thinks Walmart
pizza is the very best, and he is my super picky eater. We get them often. The pepperoni is quite greasy but you can dab off the extra grease with a paper towel. If they have the canadian bacon thin crust, grab one and enjoy! I recommend those above all other flavors. Yum!
What about chicken; so much you can do with it.
And if you buy the large packages, it's fairly inexpensive. Also, eggs are inexpensive, quiche or omelets. Grilled cheese with tomato. Baked macaroni and cheese casserole. There is really so much.
Do try Zatarain's meals in a box, very cheap and we love them. You just add the meat or seafood. Here is a website.
http://www.zatarain.com/products/products.php/1/1/Rice_Dinner_Mixes
And their rices are by far the best as side dishes, much better than Rice a Roni or Uncle Ben's I think. Cooks up fluffy, not sticky and a large amount.

Here's one of my chicken recipes:
Easy parmesan chicken
Dip chicken breast in melted butter/garlic mix (1 stick butter and 1/2 tsp minced garlic)
Coat with breadcrumb mix (I used flavored/seasoned with about 1/4 cup of grated parmesan cheese and pinch of garlic powder added).
Place in pan. Pour the remaining butter on top, or not. I do! :)
Bake in oven at 325 for around 30 minutes.
Yum.
Chicken leg
We played this at a friend's for Thanksgiving. It was fun. There may be a limit on how many people, I am not sure. You take regular dominos. Each draw 7. Before you give out the tiles put the highest domino that is the double number or the lowest number like 1 dot 1 dot. Then, everyone takes turns around the table and puts 1 tile only to match one of the ends. In this case it would be 1 dot of course. If someone has a double number again they put that tile diagonal next to the tile they are matching sticking out like a leg. Then the group has to keep going to match that other side to make the other leg. If you can't match it you keep drawing from bone yard (again one each time then onto the next person). All other times than doubles you keep matching the dots and if after you draw you don't have it next person goes. You do this until a person has only 1 tile left, they say 1. And when the first person has all tiles gone, the game is over and the people add up their dots and that is their high score. I got the highest score ever, which meant I was the biggest loser ever LOL. There are many strategies like cards, but mostly try to get rid of the high number dots first. The difference between this and dominos is the chicken leg part which is tough, and of course the fact you only draw 1 tile instead of keeping going and each person only puts 1 tile then the next person goes. You'd be surprised how the time flies when you play this. BTW: We were all from 46 to 56 in age range there. Hope that if anyone plays this the time flies by as much as it did for me. Happy Holidays!
Raw chicken??
I wouldn't give raw chicken to a dog for the same reasons I wouldn't give it to a person. Dogs can get salmonella poisoning, too.
& ditto what the poster below says about chicken bones. Except neck bones.
I buy chicken thighs once in awhile & boil it until it falls off the bones & add some broth to my dogs' food every day. They eat the *cooked* meat & skin as well, but I throw away the bones.
Andy is a picky eater. It took awhile to find a food he liked. WorriedMom (OP) may just have to keep experimenting.
Chicken
Crustless Chicken Pot Pie Skillet.
Boneless chicken breasts cut in to 1-inch pieces.
Chicken boullion (cubes or powder)
1 can sliced mushrooms, drained.
Onion (to taste) diced small.
1 can Cream of Mushroom soup
1 can diced peas and carrots.
Egg noodles, cooked and drained.
Saute chicken, mushrooms, and onion with chicken boullion and low fat spread chicken is cooked through and onions are tender. Deglaze pan with a little milk (basically use milk to loosen any browned bits stuck to pan). Add Cream of mushroom soup, peas and carrots, and egg noodles. Season to taste with salt, pepper, garlic, etc. Simmer until heated through and serve.
