QVC is having an American Girl show on Oct 25. They had a couple of collections on their website for less than what would you would pay retail in the catalogue. I beleive they took them off the website again though, maybe until the show airs again...
I have also had luck in local tag sale forums affiliated with my local newspaper, and yes on Craigslist also , just do a search in the for sale/wanted forum. Also Target has the "knock-off" 18" dolls and nice furniture/accessories to go with them and much cheaper, and they do look like American girl too! I have also found outfits and accessories at AC Moore of all places!
