is what the poster above is referring to, it would not be a choice I would make. There are other training devices that work just as well and are less dangerous for hurting the tracheal column.
In addition to the above mentioned gentle leader, my niece used a special harness on her large male doberman that tightened around his chest when he pulled and it worked great with him, Google dog training harnesses, I highly recommend them. Good luck and it is great that you continue to walk your dog despite his pulling, all dogs need to have a daily walk outside of their yards.

Um, exactly where is the shock collar? I see a regular collar here.

Try a harness rather than collar. sm
We had one for our Siamese and he did fine on it. It went over his neck then behind the front legs that way he couldn't pull it off over his head and there was no danger of choking him. If you Google cat harnesses you should be able to find some. Ours was just a toy dog harness though since it was cheaper.
Hope this helps!
I WORE my dog's collar before I ever put it on her.
It does NOT hurt, especially if it's on low. She hasn't even worn the collar in years, but we had to do something because she was the barkingest dog and our neighbor is a fruit loop who calls the cops for everything. Let's see, get rid of the dog to the pound that likely would have KILLED her or use a bark collar? No-brainer decision there. A spray bottle with water in it works well for discouraging bad behavior, too.
There's a special collar
I bought mine at Petsmart or Petco. It has spikes on it that grip into the dog's neck. Sounds painful, but it WORKS. And my dog has never yelped, not even once, so I don't think it actually is painful (my dog is a yelper at the slightest amount of discomfort, like trying to wash out his ears).
Anyway, look in the collar aisle at Petco or Petsmart for it. It's around $10-15 and it will make your walks peaceful!

If you want him to not bark, the collar will work.
