Looking for cell phones you no longer need...
Hi! My church is collecting cell phones as a fundraiser. If you have an unused cell phone lying around that you would like to get rid of, please let me know! Just let me know what the brand, model number, phone co used for and I will let you know if that is one that is on the list. I will pay for the shipping to get it here!
Thanks a zillion!
kids and cell phones
Both my sons got their own cells phones when they went to college and I suggested they get the prepaid type....When their minutes ran out they were outta luck....They learned to budget their money pretty quickly though. Both worked and went to school. It also taught them that there's no such thing as a free ride in this world.
Teenagers and Cell Phones
We plan on getting our 13-year-old daughter a cell phone for Christmas. She does a lot of afterschool activities and I want her to be able to reach us at all times. But we're getting her the prepaid trac phone. We already told her, don't expect a fancy phone with a camera and texting capabilities (you can text with the trac phones, but it just takes away your time). If she doesn't accept that, then no cell phone. My husband had a friend at work whose daughter's cell phone bill was $600 one month. I can see that happening with a teenaged daughter.
What's the difference between talking on cell and talking to person sitting across from you?
You should be ignoring people at other tables and MYOB.
Have used only cell phones for probably a couple of years.
Saves us about $80-85 a month.
Internet and cell phones - I remember before (sm)
I was a secretary in the late 80s for a medical association...I had to make up and send out hundreds of "meeting packets" to the doctors who were going to attend every month's meeting. Pages and pages of copies, colating and stapling them, addressing every FedEx label...it was an all day job, sometimes two days. Now you could just do a mass email and send it to all of them in 5 minutes. Amazes me every time I think about it. I also used to keep a monthly calendar of accredited events doctors could attend and had to mail that out to everyone...now, that can all just be put on a website to be viewed by anyone who needs it.
The cell phone thing though...other than being really glad I have it when I have car trouble or something, I'd rather not be tied to my phone like that. It is as though everyone expects you to be available all the time. I don't answer mine most of the time and call back if I need to.
Two cell phones can't share the same numer.
You'd have to get 2 separate numbers. You can get a basic family plan so you can share minutes between the phones. If you do that, you're looking at spending a little more than on your home phone bill, but then you have the added benefit of having a cell phone, which is nice to have especially on the road in case your car breaks down or something. You could always just forego the second phone line and family package, and just get a single cell phone & save a little money that way too.
So you think cell phones are safe? This is troubling!
This is probably what it does to our brain power - like putting your head in a microwave,
I laughed when I saw that privacy and cell phones, my goodness
out in public those 2 just do not go together. Unless I get a call (which I seldom do on my cell) I do not make those obnoxious calls that lets everyone else around me or a block away listen to all my conversation. I am so put off by those I usually try to walk away from the person who is doing this. By the way, if I am tracked they will find me 99.9% of the time in my own home.
Cell phones - How dangerous is their long-term use?
Hoax or not, the long-term safety of cell phones is still very much in question! They are not innocuous, and emit harmful electromagnetic radiation in varying amounts. Just as policemen's radar guns laid in their laps have caused testicular cancer, so the incidence of brain tumors from cell phone usage has also been on the rise. That very thing happened to my stepdad, a brain tumor & aneurysm right above his right ear, where he holds his cordless phone constantly. Cell phone signals decrease fertility of humans & animals alike, & Swedish researchers have proven that they are ESPECIALLY damaging to the brains of children! Cell phone-using kids are FIVE times more likely to get brain cancer. I gave mine up over 5 years ago & will never use another one on a routine basis. This issue is being covered up, but is certain to become the controversy of the 21st century, just as tobacco was in the 20th century.
Does anyone have Verizon and also their cell phones. Can you tell me if they offer a decent deal if
you have both from them compared to other cell phones. No sure which one to get.
Our teenager learned a valuable lesson today about cell phones....
She got a new cell phone last month and downloaded a bunch of ringtones, even though I reminded her that each one costs money + the transfer fee, which the system prompts you for as we don't have the internet plan for the cell phone (don't do text messaging either). Well, she ignored the prompts about the 3 cents per kilibite fee and size of the files alert when she accepted the downloads she selected. To make a long story short..... her bill for her downloads is right at $60.
She is crying that she has to pay this bill but I'm not working overtime because she ignored my telling her about the costs and accepted the charges. This will teach her a lesson on responsibility. She was expecting the bill to be about $20. She'll be babysitting up a storm this next month to pay this bill!
Talking on the cell phone requires one hand to --sm
be on the phone and not on the wheel, unless of course they use a headset, which most do not! They have less control of their vehicle.
Besides, it is hard to ignore people at other tables who are talking on their cell phones, when they have to talk so LOUD to be heard over the background noise, that you cannot help but hear their conversation. I personally do not care what they are talking about, nor do I want to hear it, but cannot help it. Personally, I think people who take their phones with them into restaurants and public places, and have them constantly ringing and talking loudly about private stuff, are just doing it for attention, and to TRY to annoy other people. There is such a thing as cell phone etiquette too, you know, one of which is to leave your cell phone off while in public.
He probably did it to keep people talking about him...sm
I do agree with Simon's comments about him, though. I thought Gina did the best she had ever sung last night and of course Lakeisha & Melinda were awesome. The guys overall still stink - out of the thousands that auditioned they should have picked better ones.
Are we talking single people or
families with children? H and I make between that together but looking at our individual salaries no. We also have 2 kids. All I know is that we did not qualify for free or reduced school lunches. LOL.
Ok, for you people talking about linoleum...
Let me make this perfectly clear: Linoleum never has and never will look like wood or tile floor. I don't care how "high end" it is, it still looks like linoleum.
It amazes me how people put that garbage in and say "even my friends think it is real tile!" Let me fill you in on something: They don't think that, they are saying that to make you feel better about buying cheap flooring. LOL
I know linoleum has its uses and it's the most affordable flooring, but please stop trying to convince yourself and others that it looks great because it doesn't - it looks like LINOLEUM!
The insurance I am talking about is for people with pre-existing conditions (sm)
you actually have to have one of the conditions on their list in order to qualify. If you look up DOI (dept of insurance) in your state, you will find info on insuring people who cannot get approved for coverage.
Case in point - I am talking about people thinking things out
I said some women went to a psychiatrist. He asked them to strip - which they did- he is a psychiatrist- he does not do physicals. They are on television telling how they pulled their blouses up when he asked them to. Now do you understand?
Im not talking about a check. Im talking about a positive administration working FOR Americans and
Not receiving a check each month to help us out is not what got us in this mess...
She wasn't talking to you, BTW. She was talking about the 2 posters below! nm

c phones
I have 2 different types of C-phones and also currently work on a Lanier system which is basically the same as a C-phone. You need umlimited long distance and you plug it into a phone jack. If you do not have a second line to your home, you plug it into your home line, but you cannot receive phone calls while in use. Both types of units work exactly the same as a regular phone.
C Phones
I have a very dumb question (probably), but I have never used one. I need to know what a C Phone is and how it works. Is it similar to a Lanier machine? I have a Lanier and have used it quite a lot, but I am looking at several positions on the Job Seeker's board and they require a C Phone which I have no experience with. Can anyone help? Thanks.
I cannot believe they don't even have pay phones there somewhere - sm
I lived in a very small dorm. We had one floor phone (incoming calls or to make operator collect calls) and 2 pay phones on the second floor (3 floor dorm). We also had 2 pay phones in the large common room/reception area where the TV and pool table were. Just not safe not to have any phones; not everyone has a cell phone (granted probably 99% of the students do, but batteries do die). Maybe you can contact AIM and shut down his account somehow.....though there are several IMs out there he could use instead. Can you get his log-on and password and monitor how much he is on AIM and then have him sign a contract not to IM her more than 30 minutes a day as his studies are suffering. I cannot believe they have that much to say to each other, especially if she is still in high school(?). He has to grow up and realize just how important school is and an education unless he wishes to end up in manual labor or at McDonald's because he never finished college and got a degree. Of course depending on his field of study he may still end up at McDonalds do to no job at the end of it, but at least he will have that degree and that is important.
Please take the phones out of the little girls' hands!
Just got thru watching AI and am disappointed YET AGAIN that Sanjaya was not voted out. It's gotta be all those little 13-year-old girls that are voting for him, because there's not one lick of talent there. Granted Stephanie wasn't at her best last night, but she was at least 10 times better than Sanjaya. They all were, for that matter! Oh well, I still don't believe he will make it much longer. At least I hope not.
AI - good show. Can't get thru on the phones, though.
I won't say any more since the left-coasters haven't seen it yet.
the phones were not working last night
I got through one time to vote for Melinda but then, after that - the first phone # said this number is not registered (recording) and the other number(s) said *for a charge of $6.99 you will reach a national directory service* and was sending you to a number like 10115158000. The numbers last night were all messed up. I went to American Idol's website and there was NOWHERE to report that the phones (all lines) were all messed up for hours.
So, in my guesstimation, the outcome of the show will be totally wrong/slanted/fixed.
Betcha American Idol has no clue at this point (early a.m. Wednesday) that this even happened last night.
I have a couple of Verizon phones.. SM
That I will be willing to sell. They're the enV phones, pratically brand new. We moved and can't use them in our new house in another state so Verizon let us out of our contract. If you are going to sign up with Verizon let me know.
We have 2 phones, family plan with 200
free text messages and my bill is only 65.
On mine and husband's phones s/m
My husband and I have it disabled on our phones. We are not teenagers,so we don't text, and we were getting charged every time we got a junk text, even if we didn't open it. Our kids have a monthly plan, but if they go over they have to pay.
Alltel - about $120/mo family plan with 3 phones. sm
i like the alltel circle. most of my family has alltel as well and those that don't, i put 10 #s in my circle, any network, any phone # land or cell. we have unlimited nights and weekends, unlimited mobile to mobile. i have 350 texts and my daughter has unlimited texts and web for $19.99/mo added in that bill. i think towers for different providers are different for different areas though so you might wanna check out what is most popular in your area. i am in the south.
OP says she answers phones as her at home job...she HAS to answer
nm
I understand the problem with cheating by using phones
and my children do carry the cells to school but keep them turned off and in their locker....which kinda defeats the purpose of being able to call in an emergency but I do know the problem it can become. The kids are also not supposed to have them on field trips that are just for the day (they are allowed to take them on overnight trips). Well, my son was on a high school field trip to VA Tech on Apr. 16. If hadn't had a teacher that allowed them (just don't abuse them) we would not have known for hours that he was okay. I went to the middle school that very afternoon and spoke to the principal about my DD taking her phone on a field trip and the principal said that it would be okay. That's good, cuz she was taking it no matter what.
I pay $189 a month for 5 phones w/unlm texting and 700 mim.
Even when we had internet it was still only a little over $200, that person needs a new plan!!!
Am not talking politics here at all, talking
about how she views the southern culture which apparently she knows very little. I do not care about her politics- what I care about is by making a statement like that only shows a persons ignorance. My maid is working today, has lived in the gettos all her life in a big city and when I asked her about it she said something she has not seen in maybe 30 years. In her neighborhood there is all sort of crime that goes on (well, that is about everywhere) but if anyone would see it she would be 1. Like I say, could care less about Whoopie's political views other than the fact she got that wrong. Neil Boortz also was saying the same,;he said she was probably still holding the south in such a light because of her inability to go into a upper class restaurant here in town dressing in blue jeans. Being as she was born in NYC, we southerns still say da.n yankees! So true here.
I only use a cell. It got to
where I figured I was paying for a home phone for no reason, as most people were calling on our cells anyway!
Actually I am considering just using cell...sm
I am considering the cell phone as my primary phone. My husband also has one and there is no use really in having a house phone and cell phones. My cell talks perfectly fine here. Bellsouth offers DSL now w/out a phone line too. So I may very well do that.
Thanks for your advice. :)
I have Verizon cell and
they do not offer any discount at all. I pay $180 a month for both.
I had it on my cell phone too! lol
x
How many of you use only a cell phone? sm
We're going totally wireless in our house next week after our alarm company converts our system to a radio one. The cell companies in our area have finally gotten the offers down to where it's cheaper to go cellular exclusively than pay a cell and regular phone bill. What about you?
cell phone
My family and I (husband and two teenagers) all have our own cell phones. In a dire emergency of no power, our car will accommodate an attachable adaptor for the cell phones to recharge. It made things simpler, and no extra added bill from a phone company. It has been this way for over three years now.
cell phone
I have 4 phones on my bill. We pay $9.00/month extra for unlimited texting for my son, otherwise our bill would probably be that high. Our bill with 4 phones and extra for the texting is $90.
What is your cell phone co.? I'm shopping around sm
Our family uses TracFone. My daughter is trying to convince me to go to something different. I need to keep costs down, but would like any info on something that includes texting and some free anytime calls. What are your experiences and what does it cost you a month for a family plan? Thanks.
Cell phone arguments
I was in line behind a woman who was talking to her child on her cell phone. She said she would be home about 10 minutes, could she talk to Daddy? Daddy got on the phone and she proceeded to rip him a new one rather loudly in a matter of seconds. Really see no need to air that kind of thing in public.
I also use Tracfone as an emergency cell. sm
I use about 120 minutes every 3 months, average $10 a month. Occasionally out of my area I have to use double minutes, but I find it to be a great and uncomplicated service for my use. Have had it for a year. My DH also has one. He uses 400 minutes a month ($100), but he talks to everyone constantly. His choice.
Do you think that when Paris heard cell sm
she was thinking "OH, at least I get to keep my phone" Lol
Are you sure it was him? Does someone else have access to the cell phone?
.
it is awfully peculiar that he used your cell phone..sm
No offense, but he either purposely wanted you to see this or is extremely moronic. I think you deserve better. That is not what someone does to their significant other if they truly love them.
Close down the cell phone
I bought a cell phone from Radio Shack. It's pay as you go. I'd play innocent to him and say...oh no, someone must have gotten a hold of our phone number because there is over $150 of charges to some phone sex place. Then tell him your going to the police to fill out a fraud report. If he then admits to it you should tell him that if he wants to do that (call sex places) fine, but he should respect you enough to tell you about it. Then I'd have a serious conversation about our future together and then tell him if he wants to continue to buy his own cell phone with pay as you go and he can work the extra hours to pay for the bill.
Our high schools here all have a no cell
phone policy. First time, the parent comes to pick it up. After that the school keeps it until the end of the year. No reason for them to have cell phones turned on during classes is the way I see it. Before and after school is fine, but not during. My daughter's middle school also has no cell phone policy. Even if they are in their lockers and ring, they are taken away.
One school in a neighboring county was confiscating them and giving them away. The parents there filed a law suit and they now keep them, but the student loses it until the end of the year.
Cell phone as a modem
I'm moving and won't have a home phone with DSL for a month so I'm about to buy a Blackberry Pearl so I can use it as a modem and tether it to my laptop for downloading sound files and then uploading my work. I've about gone insane in the details so I'm looking for anyone who has done this and can confirm for me that it works.
My cell phone provider has told me this will work.
Can anyone recommend a cell phone - sm
plan, one number, two phones if that exists, or a 2-phone plan, 2 numbers? That is not outrageous in cost. Thinking of eliminating home phone at $65 a month just for the line, extended local calling and unlimited LD, just keeps going up, was $50 a few years ago. In a rural area so really don't have any choices out here. So figured we could get a plan with 2 phones, one for me, one for my husband, just don't know how that works. Did a little looking on line and cheapest I could find was about $70 a month, which obviously is not what I am looking for. Prefer to find something for $40-$50 a month, may 500 minutes unlimited calling at all times a month, don't need much as we are not on the phone that much. Just had Verizon put a tracer on the home phone so I can track how much LD we actually use and if it would be more feasible to just go back to a pay-by-min plan and ixney the unlimited LD. I think we can save a lot that way. Probaby have to give up the caller ID but so be it. We may be able to get away with a 1 phone plan as my DH has a company cell phone for which I could call him on if he was at home and I was at work. Just cancelled my 2nd line as I was not using it much anymore for work so that will save us $30 a month right there. Just trying to pince a few pennies here and there.
