I didn't mention that you just being there for him if he needs you is probably the best you can do. Don't back away, but also don't overwhelm him. My mom used to lay in bed with us and watch movies all day if that's what we wanted. If we wanted to be left alone, she'd do that, checking in every few hours to see if we'd need something...
Try to get him out of the house, does he have hobbies, things he likes to do? I know it's really hard to feel like you want to do ANYTHING... but he's got to remember he's his own #1 and has to take care of himself first!
